I stay at different hotels every week with my line of work and i've honestly never been compelled to leave a poor review until I stayed at The Lincoln hotel. The staff we met on arrival were lovely, helpful and friendly. Checked us in and all smiles. Perfect. Walking up to our room, the hotel looks dated and run down, and has a rather strong and unpleasant smell. The corridor leading to our room was literally bare plaster with some paint scraped and missing in places. (Picture provided). The room itself was very small, and dirty. The bed and bedding were clean, the toilet had been well scrubbed, but cobwebs and dusty windows would be so easy to sort with a decent deep clean. The view of of the window into the court yard is unpleased. It's a mess, and another thing that would be so easy to just clean up with a couple of staff and an afternoon. We attended on Valentine weekend, which also happened to be my birthday weekend. Again, the staff at the bar were lovely, and when they heard it was my birthday we found a free "Happy Birthday" dessert in our room upon our return. My cousin was staying in another room on the other side of the hotel, ready for a night out on the Saturday to celebrate my birthday. When we returned to the hotel after our night out, at around 3am, we found that we were locked out of the main reception. All locked up, lights off, no sign of staff and no answer on the intercom or phone. I waited for 15 minutes or so before simply pulling the doors until they opened so that I could just go to bed. The following morning, my cousin called me to say that he was stuck in his room. His hotel room door was literally stuck in the locked position and wouldn't open. We went and spoke to staff who called someone out. 30 minutes later a chap arrived and had to break the door down just so my cousin could leave. He was not apologised to, or offer a free cup of tea or anything. Nothing was said to him when we finally made it to reception, the manager had been up to check the door before it was opened but was far from apologetic. To summerise, it wasn't the cheapest room, nor the most expensive (around £150 per night we stayed for 2 nights) but a standard of cleaning is not being met. The reception and bar staff were friendly, the manager was unhelpful and the whole place needs money spending on it to bring it up to date! Im not a professional cleaner, but give me a couple of days with some bleach and some paint and im sure I could spruce it up a bit compare to how it is. £30 on a tin of paint and an afternoon spend rolling it on the wall would be an improvement. I would not recommend. Another friend stayed in the premier inn and had a lovely room.

This hotel is tired. I had been excited to experience it, as it sells itself as one of the premier hotels of Lincoln. Unfortunately, it was extremely lacklustre. Before I say anything about the actual building, just a note that I could not fault the very warm welcome we received upon check-in. The staff were friendly, informative, and got us checked in quickly. Equally, the staff in the lounge were lovely and accommodating of requests. The building is in much need of a refresh. The public areas like the breakfast room and the lounge are clean, if a bit dated, but the room corridors smelt really strongly of old carpet cleaner and ammonia crystals, the type used for cleaning up bodily fluids. The lift to access the different levels has a mind of its own and will drop you off where it fancies, rather than taking you where you wish to go...scary! As for the room, the biggest let down was cleanliness. Everywhere I looked, there was just a lack of attention given to cleaning standards. Possibly the most disappointing was the window with a view out to the cathedral. Considering it costs quite a bit extra to get a Cathedral view, we were gobsmacked at how filthy the window was. Other issues included a sink that wouldn't drain properly, a shower head that needed replacing a few years ago, and just general levels of grime on everything around the room. The bed had a divot in it towards the headboard, which was uncomfortable and tells me the mattresses are quite old and in need of replacing, and the room was boiling hot. Thankfully the heating was fairly easy to control, and there was a fan that we could plug in. Noise was also a problem. There was a christmas party taking place downstairs and the bass of the music carried, though this wasn't the worst. There was some sort of regular humming coming from below us. We surmised that it was probably the motor for the automatic doors at the front of the building, and it was so loud! Had we been aware of the bed and the noise problems earlier in the evening, we would have complained and asked for another room, but it was only as we were bedding down that we realised how bad it was. I did not sleep well. Breakfast was enjoyable. Quality of the bacon and sausage were both good. Continental options were available, and the coffee machine made a good latte. On the whole, I really wanted to enjoy my stay, but there were perhaps just too many elements that made it hard to enjoy our stay.

We had Christmas dinner at The Lincoln Hotel today. The ambience was perfect, Christmas music at the right level, enough people in the room to create a pleasant atmosphere but not too busy and the room temperature was spot on. The food was absolutely delicious and there was plenty of it and the service from the staff was excellent, attentive without being intrusive and friendly without being over familiar. The whole experience was a terrific advert for this hotel.

Staff terrific, location great. Food excellent. Room good. During really busy days , needs seperate comfortable lounge as tables are laid in every available space. Yep, probably approaching a slight facelift stage but generally ok. Recommended.

Great location. Helpful staff Can park for a fee Good breakfast Tired building outside. Dirty inside and out. Dodgy lift. Corridors with stained carpets, trip hazard, awful smell throughout. Everywhere old and shabby. First room shabby, stained curtains, dirty windows, broken toilet seat, broken bin, broken sink plug, shower full of limescale, mould all over tiles, filthy floor, torn bedsheet. Ancient TV. Battered furniture. The air con unit outside our window sounded like being on a runway for 20 hours of the day. We asked to move rooms after 1 night, staff were helpful. We were moved to another room, a bit cleaner, only just. The cost for rooms in this state is appalling. What a shame! Hotel needs a full strip out and refurb.

We took advantage of the Sunday roll over deal, lunch, breakfast and parking plus upgraded to a cathedral balcony view. Cost 109 pounds. Room 310 was excellent, clean, modern nothing tatty, bathroom decent, towels good for the money room was tops. Lunch was decent too, lots of chicken and lots of beef, breakfast good too. Staff, from reception to restaurant lovely. Absolutely nothing to dislike. Other rooms may be tired but 310 is not.

The staff are fabulous, friendly and helpful. The food is also excellent, the chef and restaurant team are very accommodating. The hotel is in a great location in the town centre, directly opposite the cathedral and walking distance to good restaurants and bars. Downside is the rooms are grubby. They really need refurbishing.

Sadly the restaurant service let this down badly. 2 hours to get a small main course and then had to go and ask for the desert menu..no one came to take an order...i had to go and ask for coffee... There was a wedding reception going on but that really shouldn't affect other paying guests who have booked dinner in the restaurant...if you cant have enough staff to cope with both then at least mention it when taking the booking. This was a delayed trip from 2023 and we were really looking forward to it, especially when we saw the location, it was meant to be a special birthday trip and dinner was spoilt.

We chose this hotel through a Virgin Experience, what a let down, on arrival there were wedding guest all smoking outside on the steps which looks like it should be the front of hotel but it isn't the main entrance, car park full of wedding guests, we were not prewarned of a wedding going on or else we wouldn't have booked it, the lift to our room was that old it had carpet all around and I think there was a pulley for it to work , the lift to hell, as we got out ton our floor first thing we noticed was how filthy the carpets were and how dark the corridors were, all painted dark brown, then on entering the room were were just as disappointed, very dark wood all round, toilet seat was hanging off, there was all sticky stuff over the table, water marks down the back of toilet door, bed sheet was dirty, windows filthy , a very cholostrophobic room, went to reception to ask for a different room and the Manager couldn't have been more helpful, think his name was Casey, the room originally was in was actually a SUPERIOR room, so we were offered a DELUXE room on the 3rd floor, it seemed to be better and we accepted this room, but we ended up leaving after the first night after breakfast, which that was the best part tbh, the bed was just to uncomfortable, and the noise from the redding reception was too much, oh and also the cathedral bells rang nearly every hour and through the night and the thought of another night's stay was daunting, the hotel is very very tired and needs alot of money and time updating it to a standard where they can charge what they charge in the sate its in now, I would not recommend the lincoln hotel to my worst enemy....sorry, but it ruined a romantic weekend away paid for by his company

I think 3-stars for this hotel is accurate. The hotel is in need of a revamp and modernisation, the elevator in particular (which has carpeted walls). The rooms themselves are a decent size and the cleaners do an amazing job, but again, it's aesthetics are rather dated and the plug in the bathroom sink didn't work properly, with the shower also being subpar. The location is great - nice view of the cathedral and it's an easy and short walk to the Steep Hill and the Central shopping district. The buffet breakfast is great also! It's got all the classics however, they could do with upgrading their coffee machine.

The only thing I can criticise is when booking in I was told I didn't need to book a table to eat as the hotel was quiet. When I came down in the evening I was told it was an hours wait at least. Everything else was very nice. Despite having to go out to eat I would still recommend the Lincoln Hotel. Footnote the breakfast was excellent.

Very tired in need of a refresh. Very cold so didn't get a good night's sleep. Not 24 hr. Seemed only half open. Staff OK, nothing bad as such, but nothing particularly good. A genuine smile would have made all the difference. Great location for the cathedral and historic area of Lincoln.

Stayed here for 1 night recently and glad it was only for the 1 night. It does have some positives but the negatives far outweigh them which means we wouldn't stay here again. Overall price for the room and breakfast was good value and the staff were all lovely. Parking is good, plenty of spaces and £7 for the duration of your stay. Lift is very old and dodgy! Didn't work properly and then when it did work it felt horrible so we never used it again. We had a deluxe room with a balcony and cathedral view. The room was a decent size and in the main it was clean enough in the bedroom. What did put me off was the bed head which had like 2 worn dirty looking patches from where everyone else's heads have been. For any Coming to America fans it looked like someone had left "soul glo" marks lol. The wallpaper was ok and the carpet of decent quality but the furniture in the room was a bit worn. Only one socket by the desk to be able to charge your phone, no power sockets by the bed. The bathroom was the worst part. It was dark (even with the lights on) with dark grey tiles and a black floor but this was probably a good thing so you couldn't see all the dirt. It needs a deep clean or preferably a refurb. Lots of chips on the bath enamel, taps and shower full of limescale, and it just made me feel uncomfortable, especially when seeing silverfish insects walking about. Bathroom was also small. This was not what I would call a deluxe room at all so God knows what the standard rooms are like. We decided to eat at the hotel in the evening and staff had advised us to book as it gets busy and the restaurant is only small. We booked a table but I wouldn't call it a restaurant at all. It was just in the hotel lounge, I'm not sure they even have a restaurant for guests anymore as the main restaurant is let out for private functions. There were only 2 tables of people eating and zero atmosphere. Having said that, the staff were lovely and the food was of a high standard. We really enjoyed it, just could have been a bit hotter. There was a private function on with a live band and from our room on the third floor we could still hear the band. Not a problem for us but it could be for some. Breakfast in the morning was actually in the main restaurant and is buffet style. Help yourself to a table, help yourself to coffee, help yourself to food. No frills but it was fairly nice tbh and kept us going all day. The whole experience could have been a whole lot better, shame.

Yet again very disappointing Chicken Madras, only taste was the BIR base gravy. No punch as no spice taste. Have had very good Chicken Madras in the past and couldn't fault it using Burton Spice for along time. This is the 3rd disappointing curry within months, definitely time for a change and reading other reviews must have different people cooking, definitely not good 👎
