Absolute disgraceful service and food. We were placed in the back room which, although it had beautiful views across the valley, felt like a canteen with sparse, sad and dead looking Christmas decorations, and old fashioned art and decor. The room was large and completely empty (at 12.30pm on the last Friday before Christmas!) apart from one couple who they sat us right on top of at the very bottom end. It was close to the fire which was a saving grace as the room was cold when we walked in. Two terrible vegetarian options on the whole menu, cheese pie with baked beans (I know!!!) and vegetable curry!! The cheese pie dish (which was presented about 10mins after we had ordered it!), was worse than in a greasy caf! Although the cheese pie was just ok, albeit a little sloppy, the chips were cold and uncooked in places, the cabbage was mushed, watery and also cold, and the cold baked beans were, well cold baked beans!! All for the price of £18.50!! In this day and age, most eating establishments have a good variety of vegetarian and vegan food options. There are so many gorgeous plant based meal ideas now, I feel this establishment should be a little more creative and put a little more effort in, in providing a better and larger choice for us non meat eating folk. But if they are going to provide a sparse vegetarian menu, please cook it properly! I love a latte coffee with my lunch and would you believe they only serve filter coffee! I can’t remember the last time I entered an eatery that didn’t offer at least a small variety of coffees! Very disappointing! I have to say the young staff members who served us were very helpful and polite, however on being asked if our meal was ok, we explained our disappointments in brief. The polite young man told us he would feed our comments back. After about 10mins, a woman (I assume a manager, I wish I had taken her name) came rushing over, asking in a rather loud voice, which started before she even arrived at our table (great entertainment for our close neighbours) ‘I believe you’re not happy with the cheese pie?!!. Some of her other statements included: ‘Well everybody else likes it!’ And ‘Well you could have asked for an alternative to the beans’ And ‘What freezing!!’ A response to my statement that the beans were freezing. All this being presented in a rather loud and passively aggressive manner. At one point I said ‘I don’t want to argue about this! The meal was awful and cold’. There was no apology, however she did offer to knock the cheese pie off the bill. We thanked her and then waited, and waited, and waited for the bill, until we finally put our coats on and went to the bar to pay. The woman was there, and the man behind the bar who took our payment, neither of whom apologised, made any comment or said anything. Not even a good bye! Disgraceful and rude! Needless to say, we will not be returning. Additional note: I see some of the other negative reviews mention the lack of vegetarian/vegan options. Take a look at them, there are plenty of them.

I am not a native of the Ribble Valley: I'm an immigrant. But I've now lived in Clitheroe for 22 years. I can still remember my first trip to the Inn. Got to be the best hostelry in the area. Awesome!

This is the sort of country inn that I dream of. A proper sporting inn where I felt perfectly at home. There is nothing corporate about this hotel and the shabby chic is a refreshing change to the model hotel designed by accountants. Great stay. I only wished I could have stayed longer.

We stumbled upon this beautiful 17th century Inn after a long drive through the glorious countryside of the forest of bowland. We were embraced by homely and welcoming rooms with freshly lit fireplaces where we enjoyed some good drinks over a couple of games of chess. Everything was wonderful - Highly recommend a visit.

Love this place and have been coming here for years for the great food and lively ambience. It's great all year round but something magical about spring and autumn here. Stayed as part of my big birthday celebration treat. It was everything I could have wished for.

We have been to The Inn At Whitewell previously a number of years ago, we were trying to remember whether we had stayed previously or only ate there as we did this time. It is set in the Forest of Bowland and thus there is some stunning scenery around. The food was great. I am glad to say that it hasn't changed (the menu has - obviously). The service was very attentive and the food was delicious. We started with scallops, potted crab, poached pear salad, ad treacle cured smoked salmon, presentation and taste were superb. For mains we had fish and chips, Cumberland sausage and champ, cheese and onion pie, and fish pie. Again we could not fault anything. It is a grand day out for us to be able to reach it and whilst, we will never be frequent visitors it is always in our thoughts for a weekend away or en route to or from somewhere as this visit was. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Read about the pub about 15 years ago, if you ever go you will carry on going, without a doubt this is the best pub ever, do yourself a favour, find it if you can and drink it in, sorry. No pun intended. will be going back in September and November, out of this world...

Lovely relaxing stay, views from the Inn truly outstanding. The staff were friendly and helpful, nothing was to much. If you love your grub, this is the place for you. The room was spacious, with some lovely detail's, only wished we'd had better weather to make use the attached wall garden.

We had a reservation for lunch today the food was very good. However we were seated in the hallway away from the main dinning room. All the other tables seemed to have dogs with them. The lunch was spoiled by the sound of panting dogs then the dogs drinking like a suction pump. We had a voucher that our daughter had purchased as a gift from the Inn for us. May be this is while we put in the entrance hall with the dogs. This spoiled the lunch which was for my wife’s birthday.

Nice place. Food ok. Waitress dressed in such a short skirt, that the tops of her tights were showing. So inappropriate. 10% service charge added on. Not acceptable, in my eyes.

The location is great, lovely countryside. The food is a bit average, last Sunday I had fish and chips, the the fish was very greasy and the chips were floppy and also very greasy, it was like the fryer was not hot enough and it was served without any tartar sauce, this is the bare minimum I would say in a place like this. Another thing, they don't have an espresso machine, so if you like a nice cup of coffee or espresso, this is clearly not the place to go. They only do filter coffee.....come on, we're in the 21st century.

This old traditional pub is lovely. I had lunch there. I really only wanted a soup and sandwich but they don't do sandwiches for visitors only residents which is disappointing. It was very busy and the food was tasty. Typical rural prices. Disabled toilet. Parking.

After wanting to visit The Inn At Whitewell for some time, I decided to book for today (Good Friday) .. So glad we did! Lovely venue, beautiful location, delicious food. We both ate the same (which is rare) we got the soup of the day which was cream of Butternut squash with toasted pine nuts, then we chose the fish pie (with it being Good Friday) with a side of chips and sugar snap peas. The service was perfect, we had a lovely girl who’s first day it was serving! Afterwards we decided to sit outside overlooking the river to finish our drinks! It was very busy, so booking is a must, also there was alot of parking but with it being so busy, we did struggle. All in all, if you’re thinking of visiting, do so! You won’t be disappointed!

A disappointing stay at the I of WW for my husbands retirement treat! Standards have sadly slipped since we last stayed. Upon arriving, we were greeted by a surly receptionist who directed us to our room, not managing to show us nor offer help with our luggage but just issued us with a key. We chose a front room with a fire whose view was impaired by the scaffolding directly outside the wndow. Not what you expect for £200 a night. Whilst dining, the atmosphere and ambiance in the bar - dining area was marred by the unpalatable lamb which was rather dry, bland and far from lean. Upon complaining to the waitress, who was inapproprately dressed in gym attire, I was told that lamb can be fatty! And that was that! My husbands fish and chips were a better choice. The only saving grace was the excellent , friendly service from the very lovely, young man who lit our bedroom peat fire. Sadly, a disappointing stay. The mediocre food and rudeness of the gym attired staff does not warrant a return visit.

Just finished a long weekend touring the lake District.Without a doubt The Inn at Whitewell was the best hotel we stayed in. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help you. The ambiance is rustic with wonderful log fires, even to the point that if you wish they will light a fire in your room before bed.. absolute bliss. We had dinner which was excellent, with a very good wine list, a well stocked bar and excellent selection of local and international beers.Breakfast was also excellent. We were also lucky to have rooms that faced the snow capped hills and river running past, absolutely amazing, certainly got the wow factor. We love the lake district and will use The Inn at Whitewell as our base for future visits..

Great food and lovely staff! I got stranded on NYE due to the rain so found this place and they looked after me, I had an excellent dinner, and they charged me a very reasonable rate when they could have got away with anything because I was stuck. Will revisit soon intentionally!

Fantastic food, and probably the most varied menu in the area since the Corporation Arms closed. Lovely, local service, a good pint, well priced and whatever you order is excellent. Dining room is a cut above, and the mix with the bar is perfectly set. Really enjoy our visits here. Well done everybody involved!

Quite a good little venue, very cramped and cute have done with sorting out the mess upstairs and freeing up some additional space especially in winter. Good selection of drinks, bathrooms poor and the bar man the night we were in was miserable as sin no thanks or please just threw the drinks down took the money and walked off
