The Hoxley in Hastings

Visited based on a recommendation and wow what else can I say. The food was outstanding, the atmosphere was so lovely, front of house staff polite and attentive. Couldn't recommend this restaurant more, all around 10/10

Where to start? My friend and I arrived on time for our table, but were ignored for some time. Eventually the front of house guy showed us to our table. He seemed very nervous and unsure of what he was doing. He stood beside us waiting for us to order and we said we'd like a few minutes. He stayed put; I had to say 'please leave us alone to decide, thanks'. We ordered food, but the guy couldn't tell us what was in most of the dishes and just pointed to the menu. It's a weird menu - dishes described as 'it's my friend's favourite dish' like anyone cares, and wines described not by the makers but by the owner, which again, is really unprofessional. We ordered a bottle of wine, which was promptly left in its bucket on the table, unopened. We opened it and poured it ourselves. Nice. The food arrived and was pretty good, but things went downhill even more. Other diners left around 8.30pm and we were the only ones in there. The girl behind the bar had an absolute face on her and was sighing and kept looking at us as if she wanted us to leave. At 9pm (an hour before closing time) they started clearing tables, putting the dishwasher on, moving chairs and tables, setting up for the next day and then took bags of rubbish past us while we ate! My friend politely suggested he leave that for closing time and he didn't know what to say, so the girl behind the bar interjected with 'What do you expect him to do, wait until you've finished before he starts clearing up? He's on a shift, he wants to go home.' Cue a double 'wow, really?' from us. She continued: 'If you two want to sit for hours talking, then it's not our fault. He wants to clear up so when you've gone we can go.' Honestly, we were open-mouthed. She kept on, saying 'D'ya understand?' while we both said, 'Er, no, we're your customers, you couldn't be more wrong!' The two of them then stood behind the bar laughing about it, and the girl kept giving us dirty looks. Nothing was taken off the bill which we then had to ask for, despite them being in such a hurry for us to go, but at least the rubbish went out early and the restaurant was ready for the next day, never mind their customers, right? Seriously, it was unbelievable! Might be good for a takeaway but I'd rather go hungry than put any more of my money their way. I asked to see the owner but he wasn't there; leaving your business in the hands of these two idiots means you've lost not only two new customers, but I've told everyone I know about it as it was such an insane evening!

Very enjoyable meal . It was lovely to taste all the different flavours in the dishes. The menu is limited which again is a welcome change. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the service is excellent.

Never fails to disappoint- great service and atmosphere- lovely wine menu. The thai is beautifully cooked and presented- reasonably priced with good portions. Tried the cod for the first time and it was a delicious take on a green curry

First time and was not disappointed, the team where very friendly and attentive, Laura, front of house did an excellent job helping us out together a few dishes. Food of very good quality, good wine very reasonably priced, and an ambient atmosphere. Shout out to chef for Tatar and presentation. What a little gem They just got 2 new regulars!

Amazing food and amazing service. We visited for my daughters birthday. The staff went out of their way to decorate the table for her and made us feel so welcome. The food is incredible, and reasonably priced too. We can’t wait to book again to try some more of their dishes…. 5 star all the way.

A little gem. finding The Hoxley Great service, such a warm welcome,delicious food and cocktails and there brand beer. We throughly enjoyed our wedding anniversary dinner. Definitely on our go to again list next time we are in Hastings or St Leonards.

The Hoxley is an amazing Thai restaurant that I highly recommend. Their food is gorgeous and beautifully presented. As a vegan, they are amazing at changing and editing dishes for me. They even make special dishes just for me like Tofu Satay and Thai Salad Classic. Last night I did my usual order of Tofu Pad Thai, Tom Yum Tofu Soup, Tofu Satay, and Corn Cakes and a loaf of sauces and I had a delightful surprise when it arrived at my door, a papaya salad, made specifically for me as a surprise and is not a item on the menu. Me and the owner have been talking about papaya salads joining the menu for months and I was very very happy that I got to try the first dish of it and can’t wait for it to come to the new menu soon! The best papaya salad I have ever had, and I have had a lot of Thai food (especially papaya salads). The front of house staff at the restaurant are very welcoming. I have been eating at The Hoxley every week for a long time now and I can never say no and they never have disappointed me with any dish. Every dish I have tried has been exquisite, and my family (who are not vegan) have tried all the other dishes on the menu and have described them as delicious. The flavor of the Hoxley Thai is perfect Thai flavors. I highly recommend the Tofu Pad Thai, Tom Yum Tofu Soup, Tofu Satay, and Corn Cakes. They have amazing sauces for your starters and sides at The Hoxley including an amazing peanut satay sauce, a vegan vegetable fish cake sauce, and classic sweet chili. I have now had a Hoxley Thai every week (sometimes twice a week) for a long time, most of which were takeaways after a long shift at work. It is a true delight to know that after a very busy stressful day at work I have such outstanding food waiting for me. The Hoxley is a truly exceptional Thai restaurant in St Leonard's. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted with warm and welcoming welcome that sets the tone for the entire dining experience whether you are dining in or taking away the food at The Hoxley is once again, simply outstanding with a exceptional care to look after customers. The menu features an array of mouthwatering dishes that are expertly crafted freshly by the chefs in the kitchen using the freshest ingredients and traditional Thai cooking techniques. Each dish is bursting with pure Thai flavour. From classic Thai curries to stir-fries, every dish at the Hoxley is a testament to the artistry and skill of the talented chefs in the kitchen. I am vegan so some the dishes I have have to have a few additions, for example pad Thai, what is traditional made with fish sauce, this is switched out for a vegan fish sauce that the Hoxley have. Sometimes as a vegan it can be hard to enjoy most of the menu at any restaurants, especially from a Asian cuisine, but the staff at the Hoxley will always try their best to accommodate any dietary requirements, with over 60% of the menu able to be optimised for a vegan diet. But whether you're a seasoned Thai food lover or just discovering the cuisine for the first time, The Hoxley is sure to exceed your expectations. The combination of exceptional food, welcoming atmosphere, and attentive service make this restaurant truly stand out. If you're in St Leonard's, you simply must pay The Hoxley a visit. It's an experience you won't soon forget and will be dying to come back!

I have a takeaway from the Hoxley every week and the food has always been great, always been hot even though I have to travel home with it and is very fresh. The best Thai food around and will definitely not stop visiting. When I have eaten in at the Hoxley the service has been remarkable. Will definitely recommend the Hoxley to everyone asking for a Thai! If your in Hastings definitely go here! Are able to make lots of their dishes vegan or alternative dish that is vegan.

Selected 3 items for the starter. The chicken satay was cold and basically just a piece of rubbery chicken shoved on a stick! Never had Thai fish cakes before, so no expectations- but if this is what they’re normally like (rubbery) won’t be having them again. The chicken pad Thai was underwhelming and served on a cold plate. My partners chilli noodle dish just tasted of the chilli. Wasn’t offered water or if we wanted another drink.

The food was of a terrible quality. Starters, some were cold and had to be sent back to be microwaved again. The mains were underwhelming. It tasted like a supermarket microwave meal. Service was not bad but lacked warmth. I don't think I'd visit here again.

I was visiting Hastings staying in a local hotel with my wife this was just a 15 minute walk Great food great service I was so impressed! !

Myself and 13 friends ate here for a friends birthday and it was fantastic. Not only was the food delicious they were super helpful, friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be going again.

Loved the food, certainly cracked the green curry which can be it seems difficult with other restaurants. Great music and busy restaurant so good atmosphere. My only complaint was the service was crazy slow- waited nearly half an hour to have a drink
