Seems to be a live experiment in maximising profits by minimising service. Food orders require you to join a queue at bar. Only server taking orders is also the only server pulling pints. Is this deliberate? It's insulting. Prices = table service. Service = food truck. Worth driving into Whitehaven to avoid. Don't patronise this mgmt disaster of a restaurant.

Came here 2 adults 2 toddlers for a cheap quick meal Was completely wrong! When arriving had time wait for our table we asked if we still get the 2 for £11.49 deal was told yes as arrived before 6pm... then told as little staff was not everything on menu just the deal to pick from and all kids menu . . (Fine by us what we wanted) Then told when we ordered we could not have deal.... ordered sausage and mash for toddler when came was chips... felt lied to . . Slow service.... way we was spoken to was nit right . . Have tried to put a complaint in about other things which went wrong but no one has even emailed me back. ..

Stayed for 1 night at the premier inn next door with my husband and 3 children, booked and paid for breakfast when booking the room online, arrived for breakfast at 9.30 Sunday morning to be told by a staff member to just sit wherever we could find a seat, walked around for a few minutes unable to find a spare table eventually we all squeezed round a small table full of dirty plates as table hadn’t been cleaned, made our way over to get our breakfast to find there was absolutely nothing left on the hot cooked breakfast buffet, there was also no fruit, no croissants and no pancakes left my children were very disappointed as they always look forward to a premier inn breakfast as they love the croissants and pancakes and the huge variety premier inns usually offer, there was nothing for them to eat but toast and jam, I asked the gentleman on the counter if they would be replenishing the pastries and pancakes to be be told it would be a 40 minute wait this was a LIE a lady shortly came out after as said I would wait to be told there was actually nothing left, this is the most shocking breakfast I’ve ever experienced at a premier inn staff were miserable no apology for the lack of food they did in the end bring out some hot food but it was a bit of a wait and there was a massive que of people waiting, tables weren’t cleaned there was no cutlery had to go hunting ourselves for clean cutlery when complained to reception was just told the place is up for sale and there is a lack of staff that’s not the customers problem when paying over £10 per person for breakfast and there’s no food disgusting place would never go back.

No food available, no staff is the excuse they use paid for breakfast as part of our stay got turned away as fully booked? Staff extremely rude and unhelpful do not go

The place looked at least half empty but still got turned away at around 6pm due to lack of staff.

I went for Breakfast, and the staff were very friendly and helpful, however, it looked understaffed and this clearly noticeable with the service, as it would be a long wait for the hash browns and eggs to come back out once it was empty. There was also a lack of fresh fruit

Come here often when working away and never had any problems. The staff are all nice and pleasant (shoutout Jackie bossing the breakfast shift) they seem fairly understaffed but the ginger manager lady does a class job making it work. Prices and quality are pretty standard across all brewers fayre so can't really compare but as far as service etc goes it's definetly one of the better ones.

Excellent value for money on the family deal

This place needs more staff. The staff here are all trying hard but the stress they are under does not help them. They do well to present a cheerful front but Whitbread you should not be putting your staff in a position where they have to continually apologise for lack of or poor service that is not their fault. Just a couple more staff and this place would be so much better. Also, can you do something to resolve the sticky tables please?

Had the misfortune to visit these premises on two consecutive nights,intending on both occasions to order a meal. The first night I asked to order ,was told the meals only available to 9 pm ,though this not listed on menu as closing time is 2300. Give benefit of doubt on the first instance. The night after, came in shortly after 8 and astounded to hear no meals being served as staff had too much to do and we're behind in their respective duties. The member of staff behind bar apologised for inconvenience but did empathise the rules are coming from Whitbread direct to what they do or don't do. Was convenient for me to choose Howgate Brewers as no restrictions on drinks with staying in hotel next door, but far from impressed with looking forward to a meal and having to settle for a bag of crisps on BOTH nights. Went tonight for food with my family. There was a big list on the table of what's not on the menu. Order a chicken fajita burger came with no avocado and the beef chilli was cold so never ate it. Not one person ask if our meals was OK. Then puddings I ordered the black forest crownie, which stated on the menu its a brownie on top of chocolate chip cookie dough. There was no cookie dough on my plate at all. So this time I called waitress over and she said I was wrong and that the menu was missing leading and thats how it comes!!! Clearly that young lass needs training on the food menu, because she was actually in the wrong. So it was just a cherry flavoured brownie. After that I was trying to get the waitress or managers attention but they kept avoiding our table to clean away the plates.

I'm a regular visitor to this popular eatery. Good choice of food. Friendly staff make a lone diner welcome, but it is also family friendly.

Rude manager at the greeting stand we came in at 8:10 and were refused sever , for such a big hotel why you ‘shutting doors at 9pm’ , plenty of space and with people still in , would not recommend

We stayed in the premier inn next door and visited for both breakfast and evening meal with the deal. Jake and Stacey are brilliant members of the pub team and provided first class service, including Stacey remembering our name after just 1 day and Jake just being a great personality who was helping across all areas of the bar and restaurant. The food arrived promptly, hot and fresh. It is a pretty standard pub menu but that is what is expected. Great place overall.

Stopped off here before dropping some fishing rods off at Workington, service was very poor, carpet was sticky and could do with replacing, for some reason the guy on the bar would not accept my mothers 50% off voucher and was quite nasty her, she is 69 ffs, when I asked to see the manager he said he was the manager, never been back since

Sunday carvery is beautiful 😍 Shame the new server was shy to give us meat. 1 small slice for an adults meal wasn't enough. Overall was lovely

Smothered Platter as an evening meal on 1st Feb., food was cooked to perfection and was extremely tasty; value for money and highly recommended. The Staff, as always, were very friendly and made you feel very welcome; what more could you ask for!

Popular place, good service, ok food that was value for money and plentiful, nice beer, there is a pool table! Clean toilets with hot hot water. Plenty of parking.

Cheap and cheerful.. if you want culinary delights... go somewhere else. But perfect for a budget family meal. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

I can only give 1 star for Food and atmosphere as we never got to eat there. We had made a booking for 20 people, which we confirmed on Friday evening over the phone. However on arrival we were told "No booking in that name'' We explained that we had booked online and confirmed over the phone, we explained that it was a male member of staff who had confirmed this. The server then said " we only had Lasses working yesterday" (so basically saying we were lying) We asked if they could accommodate us to which we were told "No, we don't do walk in's for large parties" So now we have 20 hungry people needing food including 3 children. A quick phone call to The Whitehaven Golf Club and we had a booking sorted. We arrived and were met with a warm welcome, seated, orders taken and Excellent Food. I'd highly recommend the WHITEHAVEN GOLF CLUB FOR SERVICE AND FOOD I'm afraid you have now lost loyal customers HOWGATE BREWERS FAYER as we will not return again.

The only thing that lets brewers fayre down is the loyalty card.this place is lovely though never had a bad meal

Great local pub, the furniture’s getting tired (and the tables are sticky through constant cleaning), but the food is homely and consistent and the service is always brilliant…special thanks to Lynn, Stacey and Ben for the always warm welcome!

Food cheap and cheerful. Have been going here for years and have had little cause for complaint. Shout out to our Lynn the best waitress in town makes my family feel like royalty.

Rude lady asked for a table of a large group of 9 Wasn’t very accommodating and tone was rude. She said that we should be lucky they are quiet. We left swiftly after. Will not be visiting again Shame for such a great chain.

Just been to the Bewers fayre at Whitehaven, with 11 disabled people, we couldnt have gone anywhere better, the food was fantastic ( and cheap) the service second to none. we will be going again for sure, very soon.

Reasonable price and never had a bad meal there

Staff have always been excellent here. Everyone is really welcoming ery friendly and helpful. Breakfast is nice, and they also do a good Sunday lunch and xmas dinner is surprisingly good. The other food menus are a bit of the generic bought in pub grub type stuff but it's mostly ok and fills a gap if you are hungry.

We are our evening meal here with the other C2C riders and supporters. The Premier Inn is quite a bit outside of town, so unless you fancy a long walk or a drive then you’re land locked here. The food is pretty standard fare and we all had a reasonable meal at a reasonable price.

This place is beautiful for breakfast and meals close to whitehaven the place itself is beautiful , staff are awesome any problems its sorted asap

We have stayed at numerous Premier Inns and this is by far the best restaurant we have been to. The Manager is so friendly and this reflects on the lovely staff. The food is a 10. Enjoying our few days in Whitehaven.

Used the Brewers Fayre when staying at Howgate Premier Inn. Nothing super special about it. Food is decent enough, staff are friendly. Value for money could be better.

Lovely food, quick service, clean and friendly.

Food was barely edible, particularly the steak. When we complained the waitress said 'ugh yeah I don't like steak either' as if the reason it wasn't eaten was because we didn't like it when in reality it was more like a chunk of old leather with onion rings that were cooked to the point the crumbled when attempting to eat and the chips were so dry they no longer contained potato! Even the peas were 'crispy', I didn't even know peas could be badly cooked! Luckily the children's meals were slightly better and they were able to eat them at least. The bar staff were pleasant and helpful. The waiting on staff however, well they didn't do much waiting on nor did they have much in the way of people skills. Sadly we will never return. I have been to other Brewers Fayres previously and always found the food to be acceptable and pleasant. The Howgate has hugely tainted my desire to ever visit a Brewers Fayre again.

Menu items not available but noone says anything. Mixed grill was ok but steak I had was very grissly not very nice couldn't eat that. Some food was cold. Dessert did not mention squirty cream or I would not have ordered it as I can't stand cream. Tables not to close together so that was a big plus. Can do a tab but need a real card can't do it using fone etc. Maybe need to look at that app and paying via that it would make it easier. Saying all above but i would go there again cos the staff were nice and the atmosphere was good.

The food is below standard and the staff are rude. The service received was appalling. When a complaint was made nothing was done to resolve it. Won't recommend this sub standard eatery and 100% will not return.

Very disappointed upon arrival as booked 2 x weeks ago in order to catch last day of festive menu (according to email recieved from Brewers fare) but not available so had to order from set menu.. Food was lovely though and cooked to perfection..

Had a lovely festive meal. Very tasty. Could of done with more stuffing an pigs in brackets. Apart from that the food is very outstanding an would definately recommend to other people an friends.

Good hearty pub grub Friendly helpful staff

I was having a great day but this place made it better came for lunch and the family loved it so we came back for the pie wensday and the fish pie was very good also there was lots of big wazzers

Stayed at the premier inn and had breakfast and dinner at this restaurant. The dinner was great. The breakfast was good but nothing great. Did the job and as expected for such a chain. Nice game or two of pool available too

Hats off to all the staff on tonight - difficult for them all as they are understaffed. However, they still smiled and did the very best they could. Your employer should take note of how brilliant you’ve been this evening. Too many people are quick to criticise and not take note of the actual service they give here!! Staff very helpful and pleasant good experience all round

When I arrived I was quickly seated, there was a bit of a queue at the bar but that quickly moved and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food was some of the better pub food that I have eaten, the burger was the best I've eaten in a while. Although the staff were clearly very busy they were attentive and there was no delay in the service. All in all a pleasant dining experience and very good value for money.

The worst meal I've ever had in a restaurant. Table for 9 , were told to drag 2 tables together. Steak and ale pie didn't have crumble didn't have. My chicken dinner no stuffing rubbery carrots all meals microwave smash potatoes. Battered fish all batter not much fish small portions( that was probably a blessing) I could go on. Absolutely terrible and it was for my daughters birthday too.

Always nice food to have here. Although the breakfasts have gone downhill a bit in the last few months... Always a nice all you can eat carvery on a Sunday

Absolutely dreadful service. Starters and mains (what actually came) arrived together. Order incomplete, management incapable of sorting the situation out. To be honest , completely aggressive. Would not recommend anyone for this restaurant.

Booked and was seated straight away. Advised that food will be 30ms due to being busy but it arrived much sooner. Everyone was happy with the food and service. Recommended.

Absolutely appalling customer service and from 11 orders, several items were unavailable, 2 orders were incorrect upon arrival and other orders were unavailable after ordering and paying so out of our party of 11 meals that were turning up were 10-15 minutes apart or more. 2 meals arrived, one looked like a kids portion and the other had items missing without prior warning meanwhile we were then told that other orders could not happen as they were unavailable (this was 30mins after ordering and paying for them). When initially complaining to management his response was "tough, I've only got what I've got". Eventually got a refund for 4 meals that hadn't turned up. Won't be going back which is a shame as we probably visit on a monthly basis.

Building outside and in are very tired looking. Arrived as family of 4 for a carvery lunch. Staff not particularly welcoming, was seated then told that they only have Turkey left. The food was dried out.Overall not great food nor a great experience.

The Brewers Fayre was a terrible experience. The food quality was 1 star and the staff interactions weren't any better. We weren't in a hurry which was good as we waited about 40 minutes to receive our food. That was an issue, but the waitstaff never came back and checked in (even if the food wasn't ready). And even if they were busy that wouldn't have taken much effort, and the waitress we had seemed quite unhappy being at work. Lastly, we were still chewing our last bite of food and she swept in and just took the plates, didn't ask if we were done. We will not visit one of these restaurants again.

Carvery meats, 2 choices; Turkey or gammon. Veg was a bit sloppy, it wasn't late in the day either.

Breakfast is excellent, the service let's it down. 4 of us were booked and 2 were joining us as walk ins but Helen on the door refused to accommodate us as a party of six. There were obvious solutions (table with menus on) but she could only see problems. 2 left disappointed and unfed, not acceptable in this day an age.

Went to join family who were guests at the hotel. They had asked the hotel the evening before if this was possible and told yes. We arrived, went to check in for breakfast for the 8am table and were told they could not accommodate us. Waste of diesel, and lack of interest in attempting to accommodate us. The previous day they didn't even have the booked table for our guests.

Lovely Sunday roast beef. Crispy roasted potatoes and crispy roasted parsnips. All very tasty. Only one small gripe is that the starter fish goujons need a little salad on the side just to brighten up the plate. Four small goujons and portion of tartar sauce at £5.29 seems a bit overpriced. Waitress gave us lovely service and was very polite. Will be back.

Had a cottage pie tonight it was disgusting like sloppy baby food I ask for a spoon to eat it I also ask for a slice of bread that turned up frozen so I asked the server to change it and she put it in the microwave and brought it back warm, I did report the food and bread to the manager BEN as I think you should report a bad experience but he just made it worse he seemed disinterested in my experience and just said he will pass it on i ask him about the bread and he said that's how they do it! If the person who is running the place dosent care how can he lead the team. We always stay at the Premier in when we're working in cumbria which is first class and all there staff are outstanding and can't help you enough and then you meet Ben who couldn't be more unhelpful and a really bad representative we will always stay at the Premier Inn but will find are meals elsewhere!

Breakfast was good , the girls taking care of it all were very pleasant and friendly. Maybe the table tops and the chairs could be less sticky next time.

Burger bun hard like it had been microwaved, not very nice, however got drinks taken off our bills to make up for it, steak and ale pie was nice said hubby but mash wasn't creamy as advertised very dry.

Shocking service. We were forgotten about. I went to the bar to be told to sit down and someone would come and serve us. Still no one turned up. I had to go and find another member of staff. Won't be going back.

Staff absolutely great as always, good pub food with a nice selection, reasonable pricing too. Much better than previous visits so really happy that we have another option for evenings out again!

Waited to be seated for 20mins, got shown to our table and pretty much forgotten about, 35 mins later someone took our order, food arrived at different times, miserable staff, think they know how bad it is as no one asked if everything was ok. Won't be back, worst dinning experience ever.

Atomsphere - really nice traditional pub feeling Service - 20 mins for a seat (having already booked) another 30 mins to get drinks. Our food arrived after we had been there over an hour but what was the most frustrating was one meal came around 15 mins after the others so by the time we waited ours was on the cold side Food - the Vegan burger was lovely, however the rest of my families meals let us down, the mixed grill wasn't good especially for the price and the chicken burger was overcooked, we would have mentioned to staff but we had already waited a long time to be served Outcome - I think I would try it again but maybe a different venue as the main downfall seemed to be shortage of staff hence the wait times.
