Lovely place and food was wonderful. We were staying at the Peebles Hydro from Edinburgh and ended up coming here for dinner two nights in a row. Wonderful and solid food and very reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.

We managed to get a last minute table booking early evening for dinner with our kids and Sheltie. Very welcoming staff and very attentive to our wee dog! She was given water and treats. The kids menu was great as there was a lot of choice and the 3 courses were very good value. Our food was delicious - Cod and a HUGE Tomahawk of a pork chop. The pork chop was cooked to perfection and was fantastic! The quality of the food was exceptional and pricing very reasonable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a family meal!

No complaints whatsoever. Stayed 1 night at the start of our tour of Scotland.. Had dinner and breakfast, both were tasty, well cooked, hot and well presented. Bedroom was clean, comfy and cosy. All the staff we had contact with were welcoming and helpful. We’d definitely stay here again if in the area.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a charming member of staff who suggested that I made a reservation for dinner as they were busy that night. A good sign I thought. My room was located in the old school house which is about 80 yards away from the pub. Good points: the room was nicely decorated with a comfortable bed and fluffy pillows (as promised). Bad points: the room, whilst accommodating a double bed, was very small and very cramped. The bathroom was something akin to a broom cupboard with a toilet, shower and basin crammed into a very small area. A big disappointment but there was more to come! Warning: if you are on the slightly large size, when trying to sit on the toilet, there is very little room between the shower and the radiator that's fixed to the wall. I walked over to the pub just before my reservation time thinking it would be nice have a pint to relax after driving approximately 300 miles. The restaurant looked cosy and welcoming but then I encountered the surly, ungracious barman who grunted rather than spoke. I was given a table in the bar to eat which was quite appropriate as my food was only marginally better than that provided in a downmarket pub. The nachos came straight from a packet, and the accompanying guacamole was mass produced and a huge disappointment. My steak and ale pie arrived with a barely cooked Brake Bros style puff pastry lid, 5 pieces of beef in a tasteless gravy. The vegetable that accompanied the dish were overcooked, unseasoned and absolutely disgusting. The staff were too busy to check on my satisfaction (or dissatisfaction) and I returned to my room without any further dialogue. After my experience in the evening, I was concerned that breakfast would also be a disaster but I was wrong. A charming couple of ladies (especially the lady from Poland) had breakfast running perfectly and I was able to leave the Horseshoe Inn feeling dissatisfied but replete. My overriding memory of the Horseshoe Inn will be of great disappointment. The owners promote their establishment on wonderful accommodation and fantastic food but I'm afraid, they fell well short on both.

Came to the horseshoe for food and was disgraced by what we were served then the charge afterwards, food was bland, and over cooked. My partner actually ended up wretching. Plus being charged tax and service charges that nearly came to £30 on top of the price of our meal is unjustifiably. Will not be back and 100% won't be recommending to anyone.

This was the first leg of our journey home to Bristol. We booked in and were greeted by friendly staff and given our room keys. We got to the room and were pleasantly surprised by the size and luxury and huge double bed. We booked for the evening meal and had an amazing assault on our taste buds by the extensive menu and very talented kitchen staff, the pigeon starter was superb followed by the pork tomahawk. Many thanks to all the very fast friendly staff for making our stay special and comfortable.

We love visiting this lovely ,quaint Inn as it ticks every box. The rooms are in a separate building back from the road. Again we were in room 5 which is perfect. Really comfortable bed with luxurious pillows. A nice couch to read before dinner. Had large TV but never on . Love the Tunnocks caramel wafers as nice touch. Shower over bath but we managed. Great WiFi and since so quiet a great nights sleep. Dinner menu is extensive and we both enjoyed our two dinners, especially the Sunday night as well known for their roast dinner each Sunday. The lamb was delicious. Do pre book your meals as it is a very popular restaurant. Lovely, friendly staff who are so attentive. Breakfasts were a treat as the porridge was perfect! Loved our french toast with super bacon. Do book direct as great website and you only pay on arrival and best rates. We love walking and this area has some great walks on the cycle track beside the Tweed. Also last year a new track opened from the village into the lively town of Peebles. About 4 miles each way and we like it as nice surface and the cyclists are considerate. Also you can have a car free day. If you are cyclists the perfect place to stay! Already know we hope to return next year.

Superb meal at very reasonable prices in a relaxing environment. Plenty of o choice on all three courses so, of course, we will have to return to sample some of the other dishes that we were tempted with. Lunch out for our daughter's birthday, surprised just how busy the restaurant was on a Wednesday. Covid protection well thought out staggered entry to the restaurant, hand sanitiser and space to avoid contact. Food good - starters, steak pies with a good selection of fresh vegetables and burgers. Not your usual pub style burgers, but thick meaty and looking home-made, with a good choice of toppings. The only complaint (a good one) from my husband was that after the stuffed haggis fritters and burger he couldn't manage a dessert, none of us could. Although, having been for a walk we went back mid afternoon for tea/coffee and scones.

We just booked for a very last minute and very impromptu dinner for two (without our little boy). We very much enjoyed our dinner and it felt like we were being really spoilt in the current circumstances! My husband really enjoyed his steak which he had been craving for a long time. My fillet of beef on a stack of marmalade and Brie, mushroom and bone marrow croquet and black pudding and mash potato was delicious! We both finished with the cheesecake of the moment - biscoff which was also delicious. Thank you to all who welcomed us at short notice.

Excellent Sunday lunch for our party of four with outstanding food, helpful and attentive service with full compliance with covid precautions observed at all times. The Sunday roast was a veritable feast with thickly sliced succulent beef, wonderful root vegetable selection, roast and mashed potatoes and a generously sized Yorkshire pudding in a particularly tasty gravy. My wife had the equally tasty fish pie with a similar selection of properly cooked vegetables. I had the baked rice with strawberry jam and cream for dessert while my wife settled for a generous and interesting cheeseboard. Given the quality and portion size I did not feel I was overcharged, although prices are higher than your usual pub grub outlets. The difference in the standard of cuisine though is like night and day, with the Horseshoe winning hands down every time for top class cooking and quality ingredients. Free parking is available at the rear of the inn, easily accessed from the main Edinburgh-Peebles road. Most enjoyable afternoon.

Just back from an overnight stay at the inn. Where, because of COVID the rooms had been decluttered so to speak but was none the worse for that. The room was very comfortable with the only jarring thing being was some cracked floor tiles in the shower/toilet area. The room was clean and tidy with nice touches such as the robes, ultra soft towels and floor mat. Bags of (caution - very) hot water for the wash hand basin and a TV for those that want it. There is also free Wifi available. We were fortunate that the day of arrival was fine and were able to take advantage of a seat in the sunny beer garden. One nice touch was the QR codes on the tables to save trips to the bar. We dined in the restaurant in the early evening (I would advise advanced booking as the place is very popular particularly with Sunday lunch being such a reasonable price) and the food was delicious and well presented. We'd like to acknowledge too the efficiency of the staff, particularly when managing COVID requirements for both themselves and for guests. Well done guys, it can't be easy having to work with protective gear on and keep an eye on guest movements and requirements, but and it's a BIG but - you made us feel comfortable and safe, so thanks again. With a nice cooked breakfast that finalised our stay, we certainly will return.

I’d like to mention the positives first. Nice restaurant with pleasant girls serving. Our Evening meal was really nice, my husband had a lovely steak and I chose steak and ale pie which was delicious, our breakfast because of Covid 19 was not a buffet so a limited choice of continental but the cooked food was really good. The Inn has 8 rooms, some are classic and others are superior. We chose a superior room and were given room 8. I liked the dual aspect windows but then discovered neither of them would stay open. The room was really small, with what appeared to be a cupboard as a wardrobe, who’s door wouldn’t close properly. The bed had nice linen and was comfortable but the overall feeling of the room was gloomy. Our bathroom was small so consequently had a small shower cubicle in place of a bath the doors to the cubicle didn’t quite meet so water was splashing out and the shower itself wouldn’t stay on the shower rest! Definitely not a superior room!

We've been to the Horseshoe a few times now but not since things kicked off with Covid. This was actually our first meal out this year!! We'd had a drink here a few weeks ago and felt comfortable with regards the way the Horseshoe had set up it's safety protocols. I have to say that I think the food has gotten better. Thoroughly enjoyed all three courses. Haggis fritter, steak pie and salted caramel cheesecake ( shared!). Absolutely stuffed. And absolutely delicious. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and full marks to the restaurant and staff for thinking about how to make customer's feel safe. One slight niggle. We thought we were booking into the main restaurant but ended up in the bar. We possibly should have made this request clear / restaurant should have highlighted where we would be situated. It wasn't a big deal on the night, but if it had been a special occasion, we would have been disappointed. £10 offer during August of course is nice but prices are reasonable anyway. You won't be disappointed.

We stayed for a night £111 for a musty smelling room, booked in for dinner and expected good pub grub both myself and my partner left most of our food, I had the lamb stack, The 3 small pieces of lamb were over cooked and the amount of potatoes to fill the plate were tasteless think the chefs need to have some training on how to season food, the amount of flies made the whole experience horrible the flies were actually landing on the plates. We ordered a bottle of wine which my partner poured as he went to lift his glass I noticed his glass was really dirty and I said to the waitress she took the full glass of wine away and came back with a clean empty glass so we lost a full glass of wine.Really the whole experience spoiled our weekend we won’t be back

Waitress was lovely and friendly and the place is quite rustic which we like. When we ordered the nachos to start, I asked for no sour cream or jalapeños, I would have requested no guacamole but the menu didn’t state that it was included on the dish and the waitress didn’t point it out either, my starter was ruined with a big dollop of guacamole. Secondly, when ordering a burger each for a main, my fiancé specifically asked if there was any mayo on the burger as he’s allergic to egg. He was told no. Low and behold, the burger arrived with mayo on it. The waitress was very apologetic and kind, she took the meal back and the chef made a fresh one, however, by the time it arrived mine was cold and we were just kind of left a bit fed up, after all when she took our order we were her only table. I could have tried to understand better if she was really busy. Also, he had explained it was due to an egg allergy, so it was rather odd when the chef then sent the burger back out on a brioche bun.... We feel the menu should state exactly what is included with the dishes so customers don’t end up disappointed and feeling awkward having to send food back. It would make for a better dining experience for both diners and staff. The menu definitely needs to cater to allergies better! To top it off, it was bland, our plates had more rocket salad on them than anything else, the burgers lacked any seasoning, the chips were okay but again no seasoning at all. Thank you for the hospitality however we won’t be back and will not recommend.

Cosy, clean room with an en suite shower. Tea and coffee in room and bottled Irn Bru and Tunnocks wafers a nice touch. Festive dinner was delicious with quick service. The breakfast was freshly cooked with real toasted bread, not the usual square dried cardbord. Staff were frendly and efficient. Just stayed the one night but would definately stay again.

On checking in was not explained to properly how to get into my room, leaving me stranded in the cold and rain at 1am. On complaining to the owner I was met by an aggressive, rude, unprofessional woman. Shouting at me in her pub and lying.

I knew of this place and always wanted to try it but not down this area very much from Glasgow. Went in for lunch and it is so cute and quaint that I'd definitely go back just to sit in it. Starters of filo pasty with mango and brie and fried hallumi cheese were both delicious. Then from the lambs liver with beautiful gravy and mash and to my pork and black pudding sausages with caramelized onion gravy and mash, again both winners. Lovely place and busy with diners, so its well known for good food. would definitely go back and recommend it.

Ate a mid-week evening meal with 3 other friends, no prior table booking. The welcome was a little hesitant, not sure if they could manage us due to being one chef down that night. The staff serving us needed a bit of “encouragement” to get a relaxed atmosphere, but after that they was great.

We all went for the 3course meal. The food was amazing. I don’t usually like chips but the chips with my ipa batter fish were lovely. I think they were boiled then baked. Every course was lovely and we will definitely be back.

This is a relatively small Inn, however, when inside it is large but modest. The food and service was exceptional and could not be faulted. By far the best food that I have experienced in my 8 months of working in the Scottish Borders.

My friend and I had lunch at The Horseshoe Inn on Saturday 26 October 2019. The service was excellent, particularly when I asked for different things in the main meal e.g. chips instead of mash and green vegetables instead of market vegetables. This was no problem at all and I enjoyed a delicious meal. The staff are friendly and very helpful.

We were holidaying in the area and went here for lunch with our Basset Hound Poppy who is now a senior citizen and she was given her own bowl of water and a dog treat (how lovely) we both ate 3 courses of absolutely delicious food and would most certainly return when we are next up that way, the staff and service were excellent.

Very disappointing birthday dinner, last here a few years back when the food could be likened to a Michelin star restaurant but now pub grub not executed very well. Over cooked tiny scallops and Luke warm burger and chips, and not cheap.

Another great visit to a gem in eddlestone. We had a lovely dinner in a splendid wee dining room. Food of a high standard and had lemon in chilled iced water which was so refreshing. The guiness was magic and the barman was so friendly and respectful as was the waitress. All in all a well run business but remember to book for dinner as sometimes has groups of people coming in. Also,it is situated on main road to Peebles with bus stop outside which is ideal for non drivers.

Unfortunately they were fully booked for Saturday night dinner when I tried to book by phone & online a few days before our stay. Friends had previously recommended this venue so dropped in anyway for an afternoon drink as we were staying nearby. Comfortable bar and reasonable prices. The staff were very friendly and later contacted me by phone when a table became available due to a late cancellation. Enjoyed the steak pie and chicken supreme. After dinner listened to live music in the bar and stayed until after midnight. Were even offered a lift home - great service! Very enjoyable evening.

Searching for a country pub for a short Saturday run from Edinburgh, we found the Horseshoe Inn on the Peebles Road - itself a scenic route. We liked it as soon as we saw it despite being greeted as ‘Darling’ at the door, the staff were genuinely friendly and efficient. The menu is mouth-wateringly ambitious, ranging from traditional pub pies to more exotic fare. We had hamhock soup and nachos to start - both delicious - then chicken supreme and pork belly. Generous helpings were complimented by subtle sauces and delicious vegetables. The ambience was really good - the Inn is busy and obviously popular and it’s not surprising: at under £30 per person with drinks the total bill was very reasonable. We’re looking for excuses to come back again soon!

I booked this on line on trip advisors recommendation. We were visiting the area on holiday for my father in law, who wanted to have his 80th birthday in Scotland. As we have 2 dogs with us we had to sit in the bar area and not the restaurant, the table was perfect up the corner out of the way, and the dogs sat happily underneath after receiving a bowl of water and some treats from the staff. The menu is varied, up to date and exciting. We ordered scallops, soup, mussel and beetroot starters which ranged from £4.50 - £8.95 all were beautiful. The mains which followed shortly afterwards of Haddock, Lamb rump, Steak & Ale pie were all delicious, the chief even made me extra jus to finish my meal off. All in all A1 ! The staff were all attentive, friendly and very polite. An evening we will never forget for all of the right reasons.

This is a wonderful Pub/Restaurant/Hotel in every respect. The rooms, in a separate building, are comfortable and well furnished, and both the 'Pub' and Restaurant areas have a great atmosphere with extremely welcoming, friendly and well-motivated staff who clearly enjoy working for the owners. The food, beers, wine, malt whiskies and G&Ts; are of a high quality and reasonably priced. We will certainly be staying here again the next time we visit the Scottish Borders.

Popped in for light lunch and decided on the field mushroom filled with haggis smoked cheese together with crispy potatoe and fresh mixed and dressed salad which was off the starter menu. All I can say is what a stunning clever dish. Wonderful and priced well. Thank you.

The staff, the atmosphere and the food were all lovely. The pumpkin gnocchi were one of the best things I've ever eaten. Their focaccia was amazing too.

Perfectly fine. Fish and chips a bit greasy for what i like but probably best you’ll get in town if wanting proper chippy chips. Atmosphere quite nice as seemed to be lots if regulars who knew the staff so felt friendly but hit less chatty with “outsiders”. Nice enough experience would use again - pizzas smelt and looked really Good and garlic mayonnaise sauce was nice.
