The Highlander in Neath Port Talbot

I decided to try this takeaway once more. After all my previous review was in 2017. I wish I'd read it before paying £2.50 for 'thai' prawn crackers. They are not Thai but like the ones you get for free with a Chinese meal only these were soft and greasy. The tempura prawns were not in tempura batter at all but breaded and akin to something you'd get in a pub. The red Thai curry was ok but full of slimy aubergine, yuk. The special fried rice was full of frozen veg and what looked like lettuce and the prawn toast, just awful, worst I've ever tasted. The only reason this review has got more than one star is that, even though delivery took over 2 and a half hours to arrive, (I live a few hundred yards away) the driver apologised profusely for the delay and gave me a can of Pop. Lovely lady, vile food. Never, ever again.

The Tom yum soup is to die for. The curries are excellent too as is the butterfly prawn starter. I wasn’t wild on the spicy noodles but that’s a personal taste thing. Have eaten most of the noodle dishes all are excellent. We eat seafood but not meat and there are LOADS of options for us. The people will also make any meat dish a veg dish for you. Excellent place.

Avoid like the plague. Microwaved food you wouldn’t feed to a dog. Far better takeaways in the area.

Ordered a Thai takeaway from the highlander and ordered a red Thai curry, green Thai curry and chips What turned up was a watery mess with strips of processed meat which was apparently chicken After draining off the liquid what was left I wouldn’t even entertain eating as it Looked like the last scraps in the barrel. The chips were even more of an embarrassment as they were McCain oven fries in a box! Crinkle cut oven fries! Very disappointed and will not be ordering again! Even had to pay £2.50 delivery charge considering the order was over £20! Wrote a review on their Facebook page which has been deleted by them. Disgusting and if that is the quality of food, doesn’t deserve to be trading as it’s certainly not fit for consumption. Don’t deserve to call themselves a Thai. If I could give no stars I would! Had a takeaway for a few of us big mistake was told it was nice but just bad.The food was not nice no taste only like a damp and stale taste.It came to £50 what a waste of money.Then after felt Ill and sick and didn't eat much of it as it was so bad.

Food has arrived piping hot, on time and has been excellent. Now tried all of their currys - lovely Takeaway service works very well Probably need to expand their menu a little bit. Always a service with a smile-Quite unusual these days !

Horrible place. We ordered draught beer but there was something wrong with it as it was undrinkable. We complained about it but the staff just shrugged and poured it away. No apology or offer of a refund. Very unfriendly atmosphere. Would never set foot in there again.

Ordered via phone for home delivery. Took 50 mins to arrive. Everything was piping hot and freshly made. Very tasty and authentic Thai food. Will definitely be using again! 😁

Ordered takeout last night from Highlander Thai, the food took over an hour to be cooked, then we were told there was no driver on so could we come to collect it. Once we got home we realised we were 2 dishes short, contacted the restaurant to resolve the issue but the girl on the phone became irate and claimed we never ordered it to begin with. Told us we should have 17 trays, we had 15. Not believing us she then wanted to come to our house to see the food, which baffled us! Then told us they’d cooked the extra dishes even though they said we’d never ordered them (work that one out) - going back to collect the missing dishes we were then asked to pay for them AGAIN, called them out on the calculation of the bill, we had already paid for them. Again they accused us of lying, and then calculated the bill again and what a surprise - that fell short of the £70 we had paid and therefor proved that we had paid for food they hadn’t delivered, but added on £7 for no reason? Unwilling to give us the food without paying a second time, we decided to leave. The treatment we received from the counter staff was diabolical. I had to ask her not to shout at me & talk over me. As for the food that was given, one portion of chips was burnt, the other undercooked, the ribs were foul, the other food bland and all of us had upset stomachs after it. I would never ever go here again. Over priced, tasteless food, with argumentative, rude and incompetent staff. APPALLING! Left comments on their Instagram page about this shortly after, which were subsequently ignored.

Thai food was excellent, food portion sizes and excellent quality, hot on arrival and waitresses were pleasant and friendly, I have eaten here 6 times in the last 8 months ,also had take away and never been dissatisfied, but place needs to be updated.

Ordered via website for delivery, it took around 45 minutes to deliver - order food for around 45 pounds with my friends including curry and stir fried. It was really beautiful. I tried all Thai food in Swansea and local areas and I need to say this one is the best quality and taste. Chicken Satay is delicious and great chicken spring rolls - I could see they are fresh made, nothing like these frozen from the stores. Panang Currys was delicious too, full of flavor and taste. Can't recommend enough, worth to try!

Was looking forward to trying this place heard good things. Unfortunately food tasted warmed up from a microwave.

Lovely food and a great selection of different dishes available. have also used the takeaway delivery service.

I’d heard a few times about the ‘new Thai place’ in Neath, and a close friend urged me to order. Haven’t not eaten Thai before I was a bit dubious , rather ordering from my usual Chinese/Indian restaurant. So one weekend we decided to give it a go and was the best decision I ever made. Having ordered takeaway 3 consecutive weekends I’m longing for the weekend to order again. The food is absolutely outstanding. Full of flavour and plentiful however you don’t feel over full, sluggish and generally glutinous as you do after a Chinese or Indian takeaway. I’ve tried 2 different dishes and both have been delicious . Looking forward to trying a new dish this weekend.

My mother and I went here to play bingo on a Sunday night. (They also have bingo on a Wednesday night too) we were made to feel very welcome by the staff. Mike is a great landlord. Very clean and tidy. No mess at all. Very clean toilets. There are stairs to climb but ok if you take your time. We did win and went again the following week too. We didn't have food but everyone says it nice. Well go for a meal soon.

First time at this restaurant. Decor leaves a lot to be desired but the food was fabulous. The massaman curry rivalled the massaman we had out in Thailand. If this restaurant had a face lift i think it could be one of the top restaurants in Neath as we couldn't fault the food. From the moment we arrived the staff were cooking constantly and no "ping ping" here, It such a pity that more attention has not been given to the decor. Give it a try its worth it.

The food here is incredible. Everything is freshly made piping hot and tasty.

Was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food, not spicy at all, but really delicious food. Excellent value for money too, will definitely be back. It is upstairs from the public bar, you can get drinks from the bar & take upstairs with you.

Not sure if we ordered the wrong meals but it really wasn’t good. Too much lemongrass and not balanced flavours. Not good

Terrible! If you fancy staying in on the weekend & trying out the local takeaway that serves soft soggy prawn crackers, lemon grass in abundance flavours served in all dishes. Then give this place a ring. Won’t be returning & what a waste of twenty odd quid! Reckon the strongest fairy liquid won’t wash the flavoured lemon grass from the dish we used tonight

We arrived on a Friday no booking approx 6pm there was a couple seated and a family so decided to join in.

Delivery was via Just Eat. It was prompt and the delivery driver was friendly. The ribs were very nice. The Tom Yum Soup was awful. It was like drinking warmed up milk. Also the chicken was dry and it contained raw tomatoes. Not like any Thai Soup I've had before. Satay chicken was nice. Ribbon noodles with chicken however was bland and again, the chicken had a dry, almost powdery texture. I was pleased to receive complementary prawn crackers and looking forward to them as I know Thai crackers to be really tasty and spicy. Unfortunately they were neither. They were bland and greasy. I took them in to work the next day where my colleagues concurred. They went on the bin. I thought I'd try this takeaway as it was a Tuesday and my favorite Chinese was closed. Oh well. You live and learn.
