Good pub I didn't have any food on this visit

Been in today for lunch and drinks , the staff are brilliant especially the young lad with glasses who came and brought our food and drinks to our table , what a credit to the company ge is , fantastic selection of drinks , the food was lovely also

I always enjoy calling in here for a pint. A big old building which is nicely situated near the Crucible and close to the Novotel and Mercure, it fits in well. There's a nice big bar in the centre serving a huge range of drinks - including at least one gluten free beer on draught (my fave is Magic Rock's Saucery). The staff are pleasant and helpful when it comes to explaining the beer types. Although not tried so far, I understand they serve gluten free options in their food offerings. A wealth of TV screens surround the bar area showing sport, which has an added atmosphere when the world snooker championships are being played next door! It can get extremely busy, which is great to see so, if you don't want the hustle and bustle when getting to the bar, try a weekday afternoon for a more relaxed experience!

Dropped the daughter at mercure Hotel for the day, decided to go on a wander with the wife......we never left the place. What a bar. Great atmosphere, food was banging and loads of sport on silent to allow music to be heard. Will be back

Thursday 12th September 2024 Today, I had the pleasure of reviewing this excellent real ale house next to the Crucible in Sheffield This great wooden floored pub has a horseshoe bar The pub today had a good amount of mainly locals inside it The personal drinking in this pub were pleasent and lots of them drinking pints of real ales There is a plethora of real ales on in this pub. I've posted pictures of them on the pubs site. There were a lot of interesting beers on handpumps The staff were really good and helpful at their jobs also. In my opinion this pub is an essential visit for real ale drinkers when in Sheffield

Not the bar staff's fault but £7a pint and belive me when I say it was the worst pint I've ever had wish I could rate it zero stars won't be back

I went for a birthday part and the drinks were great priced and very nice. the entertainment for the night was a jazz band was amazing. aswell as the band there was a magician who’s tricks were very good and left me amazed. overall i had a great experience and would recommend to anyone who would want a party here.

Love this place, great location by the Crucible,dog friendly 😍, great food, friendly and helpful staff, huge choice of drinks to choose from and never short of somewhere to sit if that's your preference

The place in Sheffield for cold food. They've nailed it. Sadly it should have been hot! Our four dishes took half an hour to arrive during a quiet lunchtime. We suspect they were cooked quickly but the delay was getting them to the table. Food was edible but cold. Note that the only time we were asked if the food was OK was when the table was cleared. We were given a free drink voucher each. Not eating here again.

Met up with family in the soft area, which we booked out for £5.00 per head.Very helpful staff as we had a person in a wheelchair access was kept clear and room organised so it was suitable for all. Staff at the bar were helpful and friendly and everyone enjoyed their food.Thank you both Sadie and Ebony and your great team.

It's nice and has some atmosphere. However, it is really hard to get served and customer service needs work

Popped in for a quick bite before a show at the theatre and loved it. Music and atmosphere were brilliant. Really enjoyed the food and the staff were great. Would hesitate to visit again next time we’re in Sheffield

What a wonderful time! Head of Steam has a range of drinks, reasonably priced and the staff are delightful. Olly deserves the biggest shoutout ever!! He really went out of his way to make us feel looked after and I could not be more grateful. As someone who works in industry, his service is top tier and because of this, I will definitely be back (with the industry gang of course). Thank you Olly, your efforts were highly appreciated and recognised tonight. You’re the best!

I am a vegan and very fussy with what I will eat. This place caters for vegans really well, menu very adaptable too! I had the bbq corn ribs, cauliflower florets and fries with Asian slaw. It was honestly the best food I’ve had! Thanks

Visited on a busy Saturday afternoon, big shout out to beth, nothing too much trouble, she worked really hard and was extremely helpful and friendly. The other staff were lovely too

An impressive range of drinks on offer

Excellent midweek visit for food and a couple of drinks. Service was friendly and efficient, included recommendations and knowledge on what was available. Food came out quickly, well presented and extremely nice. Staff were attentive and we'd definitely look to come again.

Pre theatre snack and drink. Chips were the most reheated, dried out, hollow dregs from other days , that I've ever had the misfortune to see. Inedible and frankly should never have been served never mind left the pass. Hot drinks inc coffee never saw a trained barrister in it's life. Luke warm, milky water. I mean seriously, coffee and chips.... its not like we set the barrè high...especially for a city centre venue, where unfortunately the coffee shops shut at 7pm.

The service was excellent, and didn’t have to wait long to be served. The food was nice! I ordered Pizza - however it may be worth checking underneath , as it was overdone and not immediately noticeable until almost finished, since it was not the entire pizza , couldn’t really go back with it when it was almost eaten.

Service for two drinks was good, he recommended an IPA for me to try a sample of and was fine, my partner had a Pepsi max and vodka, there was loud music playing were plenty of seats inside. Outside seating was okay, some tables under a tree had bird poo on them. It was 30°C so outside had plenty of people.

Just great friendly staff especially Minnie!! Lovely vibe and quick service, had a smashing time with the family!!! Can’t wait to go back.

Top tier pub in Sheffield. Always a good atmosphere and the drinks are decent prices.

Vegan Sundays slay but gets busy at times !

The atmosphere is great! Music not too loud, seating well spaced and comfy, and drinks looked and tasted great (Cocktails were £10 each). The bouncer was funny and friendly, and both him and the bartender were patient and kind with our little group. The biggest thing was the **magician** who came over to our table. He was friendly, didn't make us feel pressured to do anything, and really impressive! His name is Greg Holoryd (look up his name + wedding magician to find his socials) if you want to check him out (I don't think hes a regular part of the pub but made our evening extra entertaining)

I received my order very late..lol It was British soccer day, and when people were asked who lined up first, they left me out. Are you upset that Asians came to watch Euro soccer? When I looked straight into his eyes, he noticed me and accepted me?

I have visited the Head Of Steam a few times over the past few months and I absolutely love it! We visited @ 2pm on a Saturday for food, and I booked a table in advance. When we arrived we booked in at the bar then were taken over to our booth. The service, food and choice of beers were perfect! and there was a lady server with long brown hair (sorry I didn't get her name) who was amazing, looked after us the whole time and made our visit very enjoyable! I will definitely be back and I highly recommend.

Lovely bustling pub. Had children with us who were kept occupied with lots of games available to play.

The head of steam is in my opinion, one of the best pubs for food, good beer, good conversation and good vibes all round. The manager James is fantastic at not only making you feel welcome, but also recommending drinks that you’re certain to enjoy. They also offer industry discount on both food and drink which is a major plus for me and my partner as we both work in the industry. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Great bar, amazing selection of of beer and superb service. Made a small error on our order and went above beyond to put it right. Stongly recommend.

Stylish pub with terrace to front. Stylish interior and very popular. We visited at 18.30 and there didn't seem to be enough staff. Bar service was slow. . There was a huge build-up of dirty glasses at the bar.

Did not have food but sat outside on such a sunny day. Glass collection could have been better but they were very busy. I enjoyed the time spent there.

Walked past day before & the place was buzzing. Returned following day for lunch, Friendly welcoming bar staff. We ordered a drink. & burgers. Quick service, hot food. Pleasant lunch. Toilets are upstairs. Near City hall & Mercure St Paul’s hotel. Opposite Miller & Carter steakhouse.

Massively under staffed. Staff doing best they can under difficult circumstances. In the time it takes to get served you could’ve had a pint and be back for another one. Place must be missing out on a fortune

Head of steam is a lovely, spacious, inviting pub for a delightful drinking experience. Offering delicious food and an extensive beer selection, it's the perfect spot to unwind with friends. Staff were lovely when I visited and couldn't be more professionally helpful.

First time in this pub and such a great experience very friendly staff especially Beth who was very attentive and very helpful.

This place is really good in terms of its variety of drinks, particularly if you are into weird gins or Belgian/Trappist beers. They even have Delirium on tap! Their food menu is decent, comforting post-drink food and I've never had a problem with it. They have a huge beer garden to the rear which is especially nice during the summer or when the Snooker is on across the way at the crucible. My only feedback (which might make me sound a bit boring and might even be a bit unfair) is that the music in this place is so loud. I totally get the appeal of going to a noisy bustling place during evenings or weekends with some decent music but it's definitely on the louder side and therefore isn't somewhere I visit if the focus is on nattering as opposed to eating or drinking.

I would thoroughly recommend this place. The service was great and all the staff were so helpful and pleasant and made you feel welcome. Lovely atmosphere. We went for the football and enjoyed their lovely snacks. Would definitely go again

Nice place to visit, Lots of different beers to chose from so should be able to find something you like to drink. Service needs a little review as the all round bar is hard to get served when busy. Staff don't seem to take any notice of how long people have been waiting at the bar and tend to just serve the next person to shout.

Went here on a Sunday evening, had a lovely cocktail and there was a fabulous magician! He came round to our table and did some tricks, all for free! Was very entertaining and really made a nice change as usually used to loud live music or something similst as entertainment! Only thing I would say that it is quite expensive, but I guess that's understandable being so close to the crucible.

What a place. Great vibe, amazing selection of beers, decent food and loads of sport on tv and singalong songs. What’s not to love!

Truly awful service. Sat outside to watch the snooker and queued for over 20 minutes for a drink. Lots of staff around but only two serving and no urgency at all. As beer is expensive, you would expect better service. Very poor

Didn't used to like this place but there is a really good selection on tap and plenty of cans. A little pricey but not too bad. Have had a fair few really good pints in there

What a lovely little bar we went as a family of 4 the staff are so friendly and welcoming we had a wonderful time. They have a great choice of beers not the cheapest but the quality is top notch my wife had a cocktail it was lovely props to Nathan i think his name was for his recommendations the food was delicious especially the burgers and kids loved the pizzas will definitely be back.

Had a lovely few pints of real ale in here, great atmosphere and even better beer selection. All topped off with loads of laughs and wow moments from the close up magician who was working the tables!

Sabrina offered a excellent 5 star service. She had excellent knowledge in drinks and went above and beyond with her service. Will be back again. X

This is an amazing place to go…. I haven’t been to a restaurant with such great customer service.. Ollie and James Shaw were so accommodating and were super super friendly !! They were happy to help with whatever we asked from them in such a positive way. They are an asset to the business.

The best spot in Sheffield! Food is incredible and the staff are so nice and helpful, massive shout out to manager James!

Nice pub only stopped for a beer the choice is very good lots of different ones to pick from. The decor is good and the place is clean. I would go back and hopefully try the food next time.

Great location, good food, THE BEST PORK SCRATCHINGS In Sheffield, however, the music is toooooooo loud, that it is doesn’t allow you to have a good conversation…. Other than that is a great place to be, if the weather is good you can use the beer garden to avoid the loud music

First time in this particular Head of Steam! Was busy when we arrived but got quickly served by the very efficient and helpful bar staff - as you'd expect a great selection of beer and lagers - some tables weren't quickly cleared and cold food left on them for the duration of our visit which was about an hour - but would recommend 👍

Had food, great food, followed my requests perfectly. Really good pint of Guinness as well, had multiple from different staff, all seemed to know how to pull a good Guinness. As a fond Guinness drinker, I can safely say it’s the best I’ve had in Sheffield. Atmosphere was great, lots of music and good vibes.

Good range of beer, friendly staff. Well kept. I didn't try food so unrated. Liked the games tables set our at back.

Food is fantastic and staff friendly

The atmosphere here was great, they had games that you could play but it seemed that a lot of people had taken some pieces to things which was a shame. I had a vegan burger with seasoned fries which were really delicious and my friends and I shared some onion rings and vegan chicken wings, again both were really nice. I did feel like the price of the wings didn't match how much we got but they were still delicious. It was my first time here and I'll definitely be back.

Excellent range of beers. We loved the Northern Monk. Very fresh with a citrus flavour.

I had ollie as my bartender and he was absolutely fab. All staff seems so sympathetic and really nice since me and my friend tend to have anxiety around male bartenders. Props to this person!

Breakfast from 10am is also amazing. Nice chilled atmosphere, and definitely the best tasting and value breakfast I've had lately. Really enjoyed our visit. Friendly attentive staff and just the best beer selection. Including the tastiest alcohol free beer I've ever tasted. Repeat visiting and service again excellent and great beers.

Had breakfast here on Saturday morning. It was excellent. Really pleased I chose the Full Steam Ahead. Great value and definitely wasn't hungry again until the evening. Arrived as they opened at 10am and had a lovely chilled catch up with family. Nice coffee, juice, and breakfast itself was superb. The bacon was perfectly cooked, just crispy on the edges and very tasty. The tater tots were excellent and the eggs still had a nice runny yolk. Will be back soon. Recently had a few other breakfasts, including a highly rated nearby cafe, the Head of Steam Breakfast was far better and great value.

Not eaten at the one in Sheffield, but same menu as Leeds. Recommend the Head of Steam Gyros. Staff in Sheffield are incredibly helpful and friendly and the pub has a great atmosphere in the week and at weekends.

Ollie at the Head of Steam was awesome, totally knowledgeable of the beers and offerings. Great Pub and atmosphere, loads of great choices on tap and bottles too. I will definitely be coming back !

Popped in here with a few friends for a couple of drinks before getting a train. The staff were excellent, the beer selection superb and the food also very decent (had the chicken burger). Will definitely visit again when next in Sheffield.

All food arrived cold and had to be microwaved. Really not good enough at £51.00.

Really busy early Saturday evening, but service was on point as were the beers.

We called in for a quick drink at the end of the evening with a few friends for a drink. We didn't eat so can't comment on the food. The bar staff were working extremely hard to ensure that a busy crowd got served in a timely manner and even went the extra mile to recommend drinks and let me try an ale before I committed to it. It was delicious. There was a live singer on and a great atmosphere.

I had a very good experience here as one of the staff members behind the bar Oli was very accommodating for me and my friend and was fully understanding of our needs

Had an amazing Severus from oli all night long would highly recommend for the start of a night out !
