Very expensive for "street food"

Had the smash blue burger. It was amazing!

Ordered two smash burgers and a dirty chicken fries to take away. My name gets called and it's someone else's order, there was another Chris. 40 minutes later and still no sign of our food, another person who'd just received their takeaway order comes back in and says they got the wrong order. I then get called up to the till and scolded for not asking where my food was sooner... No sign of an apology, no explanation as to the mixup - even after seeing the front of house staff being told off for making a similar mistake for the 'third or fourth time' 5 more minutes go past (concerningly not long enough to make it fresh?) and our food has been plated up to dine in. I remind them that I ordered to take away. Only when I finally get my food do I get some sort of acknowledgement that there was a mistake, and a couple of free drinks and a dip thrown in. Burger slightly above average, dirty chicken fries shockingly flavourless, habenero jam had a whole unexpected star anise in the middle. I was ok waiting 40 mins during a busy period, I was NOT ok being scolded for doing so.

Third time trying and this place has hit its peak. Best streetfood I've tried! Flavour is out of this world. Will definitely be back!

Really good chicken and loaded fries. Why anyone would go to KFC across the road when The Hatch is here, I don't know!

Amazing food spot on Newcastle's main Street. Very generous portions, food was delicious. Service was speedy and very friendly staff. Plenty of outdoor seating at the back if it's a sunny day. Toilets were well maintained and spotlessly clean.

Brilliant good and large portions ,great value for money

Excellent food but a bit on the pricey side. We had 2 portions of take away loaded fries and it was £21. Can't complain about quality just couldn't afford that all the time.

Best place to go after a multi day hiking and camping trip in the Mournes. Can't wait to be back!

Nice food, cozy place. Totally recommended if you are in Newcastle or visiting Tollymore Forest Park. The burger tastes great after a long mountain walk.

Perfect and delicious the only words that describes my several visits to The Hatch delicious chicken tenders with a lovely bbq sauce I loved it here

Cannot fault the food , plenty of it and really nice, the only slight criticism I'd give to season the chicken tenders slightly, or maybe I should have said a little salt ? Either way it's really only a minor thing, drove from Belfast to try , definitely not disappointed.... when will you open in Belfast ? ☝️☺️

Honestly one of the best burgers I have had in a long time

False advertising as the Vegan burger is not vegan. Edit - I increased the rating from 1* to 3*s. I appreciate that places like Hatch make an attempt to provide an option for Vegans. However, please source and bun for the burger that is milk/egg free.

Food has been constantly great, best burgers for miles! Problem is we've had issues with nearly ever order we made. Items missing or losing our order between the tills and the kitchen. If the food wasn't so good we wouldn't go back as having to think about getting parked in Newcastle to pick up a missed burger or loaded fries is a downer, plus the petrol and inconvenience. Worth checking out for the burgers, just check your order before leaving.

Always very tasty. Today I had a burger with chicken, fries and a coke and it was amazingly tasty. You know they always come for the taste, so the taste and quality have been preserved for a long time. Thanks to the wonderful team. 09/29/24

Forgot my fries when i paid for them

Loaded fries...frozen chips, small bit of tasteless pork, handful of pickles and BBQ sauce from a bottle. £11. Anyone can do this at home themselves.

We ordered tenders, buffalo chicken loaded fries and one of the burgers. Fried chicken was lovely but nothing that special. Burger was great, had mac and cheese on it which was lovely and the beef patty was so juicy.

Food was great and very reasonably priced. Sat in but didn't realise there was a garden seated eating area out the back

Stopped by to get a single Baconator burger - no sides or anything else. Waiting time was .... 45mins The burger was very meaty and good sized, but for me it was lacking in flavour a bit. Would eat again, but not at the top of my list

Was going to get the Vegan Burger but luckily saw someone order it before me - they were told the bun wasn't vegan and then I watched the vegan burger being cooked on the same hotplate as the meat burgers, soaking up all of the animal juices. How can this be called vegan?!!

Food was excellent but you'd expect homemade fries for that price and it is expensive €30 for a loaded fries and a burger and one drink

Spent near 30 pound on a takeaway on Easter Monday to bring home the worst food iv had in a long time. The burger buns were wet, no taste from burgers at all. So disappointed as this place used to be great. I rang and told them, said they would send a voucher but hasn’t.

There is not one bad thing to say or anything they should improve on! The food was extremely good and the quality was to die for! The best burger i had in my life and the best loaded fries!! So worth it!!

First time eating in the new hatch restaurant absolutely gorgeous in twice in 2 days I live in Belfast and would travel down just to go there 😋class food👌 Best burger I have ever tasted and I have tasted some brilliant ones😋loaded fries also amazing 😋

First time having a take out from the Main Street Newcastle restaurant. We ordered an American smash and a Baconator burger and an extra portion of hatch sauce. Service was efficient and pleasant. The place was very clean and welcoming. The wait was 10 mins from ordering to receiving our food, so fairly good. On arrival home, discovered the portion of hatch sauce at £1-50 had not been included in the bag. ( messaged the Hatch on messenger immediately..still waiting a response….so that’s not acceptable! Hence 3 stars!!) The burgers were in a superb brioche bun with plenty of lettuce and sauce, but the patties were incredibly salty…much too salty for me and believe me…I like my salt! I have read other reviewers stating the same, so the Hatch head chef needs to address this ( if he’s worth his salt!). Hence only 3 stars for the burger. Will try again at a later date and compare taste. Overall, a fair experience, but not mindblowingly brilliant.

Probably the best burger in the country. Go here regularly after a hike *update* Came here recently and they had changed the quality of the beef. No where near the standard it used to be

Grabbed some lunch at The Hatch today, after seeing an Instagram story mentioning it, it's located in a handy spot beside the Donard Hotel, with some parking beside it, and some on street parking alongside the road close by. Great selection of food available, also choice for vegetarian, with pretty fast pickup after ordering. Belly buster burger, was cooked to perfection, with pork belly and dry aged beef, very large in size, great value for money and very tasty! Falafel loaded fries also top notch! Great taste and not too spicy. There is a seating area outside with a few picnic benches for dry days also. All in all very well priced food that tastes very good! Would recommend and definitely one to get to again!

If you like eating big heaping bowls of salt, you might enjoy the hatch. It was the single saltiest meal I've ever tasted in my entire life. I can't even describe the sheer level of saltiness, almost wondering if that amount of salt is illegal. My kids chips were caked, encrusted in salt, I'm sitting here eating watermelon to try and hydrate after eating a quarter of the meal, dreading the hangover I'll have tomorrow from being within 10 feet of this much salt.

Hateful staff, bland food. I had to wait 40 minutes in the queue to be told by a really hateful lady that what I wanted wasn't in stock. Instead of striking the item off on the menu they make you queue so you'll order there sweaty chips. Food was gross and lazy serv8ng was worse. AVOID

Easily the best takeaway in the town, and it's not even close. Sure, you're paying a wee bit more, but worth every penny. Highly recommend their Hatch Burger, and their Chicken Bites

Have been to the hatch loads over the years but today the service was terrible, the young girl behind the till didn’t have a clue! Told us our food would be 10 minutes and nipped to the shop and back, then waited a further 15 minutes minimum, sitting right outside the van. Then our order got called that was sitting on the food heater the whole time!!!!! You weren’t even busy today at time we were there and the phone went straight to voicemail meaning we couldn’t even pre order!

Had an incredible feed! Thier loaded chips are homemade chips the BBQ sauce and pork had such a smokey taste 10/10 we be getting outta here more often thank you

Saw this Street food van featured in a BBC TV program, it looked lovely so Googled it and was delighted when I found out it was in Newcastle, co. Down. Well worth every penny, the burger was delicious.. if you are visiting Newcastle I highly recommend giving it a go.

Food looks great in photos, no taste, waaay overpriced for a food van, long waiting time for a burger and fries. Never ordering again. I had high expectations but very disapointed.

Horrendous food for the price, burger buns were burnt, chips were greasy. Totally underwhelmed at quality. First time here and won't be back. For the price paid I could have a decent meal somewhere for a few extra pounds.

The Food was tasty and fresh although i got 3 burgers and on 2 of them hard big bits of burnt carbon on them which reflects the 4 stars. Apart from that I would defo recommend.

Absolutely love their food. Had eaten from them twice burgers are juicy and full of smokey scent. Great service and lovely people, even jumped start my car when my battery died after we have eaten the food. Definitely be back

Burger was great. Charcoal smokey top class normally prefer bap to brioche but the bun was great too good chips £10.60 for burger box with fries and drink well worth it

Tried here today at Banana Block. Prawn tacos were delicious, everything tasted so fresh. Staff are lovely!

Omg, just had the Dirty Chicken fries and the parmesan and truffle oil fries. Absolutely spot on guys. Enough for lunch and dinner. Reasonably priced. Will now be my spot for an occasional meal out. Wish I could give more than 5 stars actually.

It's amazing what these guys have done here... They have got the flavours of top burger places to a T and maybe even better!! The guys are always friendly and courteous. Delicious burgers!
