The manager didn't know what to do and to say he was the one running the business, his employees would be more in control then him. He barely trained anyone and only did to certain ones he liked the most. The food is overrated as its not even nice and only seen to be good for the background as it is in the famous 'Kes'.

The manager seems to be a know it all and doesn’t believe when you say it’s wrong. He told off a young woman about cleaning and yet never taught her how to correctly do it. Wasn’t able to count out cash at all, disappointed and not modern when only cash. The food is disgusting and overpriced, the cheese on my chips was plastic and disgusting, wouldn’t feed it to my dogs. Never will recommend and the manager is incompetent and puts you off never mind the food.

This as I remember is usually a very good fish shop but today I have been very disappointed, the worst in a long time. Chips were raw in the middle. The fish had thick pappy batter and the middle of the fish was dry. Maybe bad day but won't be back.Totally off putting and a waste of money. The chips that were cooked were rubbery and not edible.

Disgusting undercooked food, rude staff too interested being on their mobile phones than serving customers, the food went straight in the bin including the sausages for the dogs! I had been looking for owner on fb or somewhere so I could contact them to see if they are aware the establishment is being run like this but can’t find anything. Will never spend another penny there (£12.50 spent today!) bad food and bad staff

NAME CHANGE - NOT A CHANGE IN THE QUALITY Firstly the prices on the board are wrong and then the portions are tiny !!! Charged £1.50 for an advertised £1.40 on the board small chips. SMALL IN AN UNDERSTATEMENT (SEE PHOTO). This is an unedited and I have not taken any chips out - that is there portion. Had got £1.40 out as per the board only to be told its £1.50 and then to be audibly shocked at the smallest portion of chips I have ever ever seen!! There was some unrecognisable brown substances under the hot plate. An old gent got some fish and chips and the fish again was tiny!!

We came here as this chip shop was the one used in the masterpiece that is the film Kes. The layout is a little different but who cares, other locations are all nearby and the author's house with blue plaque just across the road, Barry Hines. People visit from all over the world because of this beautiful but tragic portrayal of a boy's life in Barnsley. Dave behind the counter was very pleasant and full of film information. Ignore the reviews, the fish and chips were really good, lovely and browned but not oily, chips just like my Mum used to make in a chip pan. A fine collection of signed photos from the film will keep fans happy too. Visit and wallow in the nostalgia, me my mate enjoyed it.

Called here after seeing a sign pointing to it when I left the motorway. Headed off up the side streets and eventually found this strange looking chip shop. I was too hungry to care about the obvious warning signs such as no customers and not much food cooked off in the warming cabinets which is a clear sign that not much custom was expected. The owner was sat down on a stool reading a paper, so that was now three clear warning signs. The chips were not really over cooked as such, it was more a case of them being burned. All the moisture had been cooked out of them before they even hit the hot box and god only knows how long they had sat in there. To be blunt they were inedible.Everything was priced significantly dearer than a typical chip shop in this region too. I wouldn't mind that for good food but the food here was terrible.Never again.

Disastrous nightStarters were cold, the waiter dropped my husbands main then the second one was uncookedWe then moved to the bar & ordered a cocktail, the very young waiter spent about 15 mins trying to find a glass/how to make the cocktail by which time we sat to enjoy the other drinksThe waiter was then very abusive to us at the table After complaint to the assistant manager Hannah we received complimentary drinks & a birthday bottle of fizz, she was great & rescued the nightWould only revisit if they retrained their very young arrogant staff

Pass it on by.. the sign on Hoyland Street which points to a fish and chip shop, the oil was discoloured and the fish batter was overcooked and the dish itself was dry. It was expensive experience and the physiological after affects are just about complete. Not for me

Ordered from these tonight, the food was an hour late, cold. I have called for a replacement as I will not be eating that. Potato wedges had been cooked with chicken which had found its way into my serving. The kebab meat was tough and looked part cooked and no salad.Edit: having looked into this takeaway more they have a 2 star fsa rating and I can understand why. Avoid if you want good food.
