My first Shetland chippie experience. I was sweaty after arriving by ferry that morning and doing a day of active sightseeing and wanted a chippy. I happened to be passing and thought I'd try it. The young lad serving seemed very efficient and happy to talk through what was ready straightaway. Went for white pudding and chips. Stayed in to eat and pretty good - no extra cost for doing so. Not particularly well ventilated when the door is closed but no issue if you were sweaty, not that bothered or taking away. At 5pm I felt it should be a lot busier than it is though not sure why it wasn't.

I hope this place improves a lot in the future with a positive atmosphere. Macdonald's can serve a better burger than you for £6 with all sides and sauces. Unfortunately, this is Shetland and we should all expect this.

It was very quiet and I expect it's always like that as I was stood waiting for 2 minutes before banging to get someone's attention. The fish and chips were already cooked and in a keep hot area so there was hardly any waiting time for food but if you want more than 1 fish I expect there would be a wait. The fish and chips were traditional and very fresh and tasty. I would happily go back there when I'm next in Lerwick.

Food wasn't good , girl serving was rude , I asked for 2 piece fish supper one breaded one battered and a portion of onion rings , cost £22 which she obviously charged separately which I asked why that price? was rudely told "fish is expensive " I could have forgave that but she put the onion rings in between the fish which made it taste horrible , if yiu4 going to charge separately then at least wrap separately, worst experience in lerwick everywhere else service and food was amazing shame it tainted my last night , please avoid this place

Popped in at lunchtime - place was busy with local workers. It’s a classic old school chippy so why would you order anything but ? Food was excellent - ordered the haddock supper size and it didn’t disappoint. I think the time of day matters and perhaps where the negative reviews are from, but we thought it was great.

Glorious establishment. Saved 3 of us in our hour of need when we needed nothing in the world but a chippy. Phoned the chippy as we were going to arrive at closing time and the gods of the happy haddock delivered our dream of a battered hamburger, fish and chips and a jumbo sausage supper. They even stayed open 3 mins after closing time to ensure we were not left as unhappy haddock’s.

Despite been advised to stay clear of this chip shop decided to give it the benefit of the doubt on my way back to the hotel. Omg, the chicken breast or whatever it was was disgusting just boney and pink and brown in the middle. The chips were just as bad like they were serving last nights chips. Just returned it to the counter and walked straight out the door to throw up. I recommend staying clear of this place and go to the Fort Cafe.

Shetland is famed for good fish and chips so when I ordered I was delighted to be told my fish supper was £10.50 thinking for this price I'm in for a treat. I wasn't, it was greasier than a hoors chuff and portion size was rubbish. Chips looked and tasted like they had been sitting for a good few hours which in the lifespan of our planet isn't long at all but in chip terms it's ages. The boy cooking had found the time to stick on a pair of imitation Beats headphones but not a face mask.

Was very disappointed in the quality of fish supper I had here the other night. I had literally just arrived and it was late, so went as it was near to where I was staying. Overpriced and over-cooked. £10 for a fish supper from a regular chippy is far too much with the meanest amount of chips I've seen in years. £10 is unacceptable Especially when you're competing against award winning ones just up the road that charge £2.50 less than you per portion.

Overpriced and over-cooked. £10 for a fish supper from a regular chippy is far too much. Even then you wouldn't mind if it was cooked properly but the dark brown offering which 5 minutes before may well have been golden doesn't really get the taste buds tingling! Frying fish is a skill, turning batter into the same shade as a Geordie Shore lass after 12 hours on a sunbed isn't. Then there's the staff uniform! I've seen less greasy stains in watching over 40 years of Persil adverts on ITV. Anyone would think that being presentable and tidy behind a counter was the work of the devil. This place has gone downhill with the same rapidity as its prices have gone up. Not surprisingly I won't be back!

Tried a hotel but they declined to serve us until 6pm and provided a menu which had nothing particularly attractive so asked a passing stranger who recommended The Happy haddock. By now time was limited so my wife dropped me off and went to park. I ordered a plate of chips with salt and vinegar for her and a meal for myself. By the time my wife arrived a waitress had already brought the meal and the plate of chips. While I was wondering what to do about the salt and vinegar but within about a minute the waitress had returned with containers of salt and vinegar and a fulsome apology for having overlooked them the first time. I never judge restaurants on mistakes but on how they deal with mistakes and this waitress gets full marks for putting it right so quickly.

I had just arrived back in Lerwick after a LONG drive to Mid Yell (a return on one of our inter island ferries after a 45 min drive plus 1 5 min drive at the other side, then all the way back again on the same evening!) I had had a successful night selling books. I was STARVING luckily my cousin fed me when I arrived in Yell with 2 bowls of Tattie Soup. But this was Much later (excuses!"). Well, as I drove along Commercial Road, (Lerwick) I couldn't help noticing that the Happy Haddock was open and empty of customers! So I parked and dropped in and asked for a Double Sausage Supper. Super! Just what I needed. The customer service was great and their local tablet was on sale as usual, so I had to have a bag of that as well, I wondered what happened to that?

I been at KB with my family for a birthday meal. First strange thing I noticed when they brought a buttered fish for my child and fish was pale, oily and soggy (when breaded fish served for my second child looked great). When they brought my buttered fish I seen the same- A very pale, soggy, greesy thing on my plate :( Taste was not good eaither..butter was not crispy, but greesy and also had a taste of old flour, not sure what was wrong but I ate less than half. When waitress came to collect plate (she probably seen I ate no much of it) she asked "if all was ok?"..I honesty said that I didnt like my buttered fish and... waitress just replied "Thats ok", turned around and gone with my plate. She show NO interest in situation at all.. and I had no even a chance to explain why I did no ate my dinner. Next thing I did not like, it when my kid's favourite song starts to play, some gentelmen appeared from kitchen with a hoover in his hands and without asking anybody around he turned his hoover ON and instead of music we listened a sounds of hoover for a few minutes. Kids were so upset. They said "we didnt hear our favourite song" :( Now, after I came back home from KB I had a very upset stomack and it still sore, child who had buttered fish too complained about sore tummy too. So..not very good experience for 70 pounds we paid. Probably would not go back to KB again :-(

We found Hand Made Fish, the croft smokehouse of David Parham, a true delight. David smokes salmon that he carefully selects from Orkney and Shetland fish suppliers. He is passionate about smoking salmon to perfection, and what counts most is to always improve. Our visit to his smokehouse in Bigton, Maywick, was a unique food experience. He told us stories, explained the smoking process and offered us a fascinating tasting experience that learned us how different the pieces of his artisan salmon taste: tail, head, side, body. What a discovery! Everyone of our family, adults and kids, really enjoyed David’s stories and his wonderful smoked salmon. Simply the best salmon we ever had! A few days later we had the luck to also taste David’s smoked haddock he was so kind to deliver us in Lerwick. We poached it in butter and milk, ate it with potatoes and poached eggs, and loved it!
