The Halfway House in Banbridge

Hi we had a private party for my Daughter’s Birthday. The function room is beautifully decorated with its own bar and plenty of space. All the staff were very accommodating both before and during the event. Buffet was excellent and we all had a fantastic night. Thanks to all the staff, would highly recommend for parties or any function.

We visited a couple of times recently. Nice atmosphere, the staff were excellent and the food was hot and served promptly. It was busy on both occasions.

Had a lovely meal with family, all age ranges. Staff very polite, friendly and hard working. They had a high chair for the baby waiting at the table upon arrival. Food tasty and decent sized portions!! I also liked the background music, created a nice atmosphere. Only one suggestion, a biscuit with the coffee would be a nice touch. Looking forward to going back.

Daube of Beef never fails. And the Guinness is GREAT.

Meet up here with family and it's always an enjoyable experience. Regularly busy place so booking is essential. The food is good and well presented and the staff very helpful and attentive.

Can't rate the Halfway House high enough. We went for a family meal to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. The food was fantastic & the staff ( especially Scott ) were lovely & very attentive. Well done Halfway House & thank you for a lovely evening.

At extremely short notice, the night before due to a family death, The Halfway House took a booking for 56 family members to have a post funeral dinner. The welcome was very warm, the dinner excellent, with a choice of roasts and desserts and the service was very efficient. Bar staff were friendly and the venue well presented.

We went for afternoon tea in the Halfway House and enjoyed it immensely. Pleasantly surprised of the quality of the afternoon tea for reasonable price. We have had afternoon tea loads of times and this experience is right up there with the best. The staff were very nice and the service was fantantic. You were very well looked after. Great selection of sandwiches,scones and pastry. Soup was lovely and plenty of tea. Loved it and will be back soon. So enjoyable.

Just beautiful!! Highly recommend! Was looking for low gluten/gluten free menu and was spoilt for choice which is rare. I had the chicken goujons and my partner (non gf) had salmon. Cooked to perfection, super tasty and a more than generous portion. Staff were super friendly and helpful. So happy we found this place whilst on holiday.

Dropped in Saturday afternoon without a booking. The friendly staff accommodated us straight away and were very attentive throughout. Lovely table right by the fire. Food was excellent and a great choice with tempting specials - I went for squid to start and a pizza for main and both were unreal. Great selection for kids too. Would highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Had my sons christening meal here today. Only booked a week in advance and they were able to cater for us. They even phoned this morning to ask if baby boy or girl and added some nice touches to the table and set up a separate table for cake. Staff lovely and friendly. Food was delicious. Not one complaint from our party of 13. Can’t wait to go back for another meal.

Never had a bad feed out here before. How me & my girlfriend went last night very disappointed food was average and forgot one are sides. Put on a table close to the door where it was freezing cold. Place was full probably why.

Been here a few times and it never disappoints. Been in larger groups and also as a couple, both accommodated for no problem. Always great food, friendly service and lovely atmosphere. Diane is great! Her welcoming attitude and friendly staff all ensure the experience is enjoyable! Menu is full of options for everyone and reasonable. Also, everything I have tried is yum. Recommend the steak! Thanks folks. I’ll be back soon.

I've been coming here with my family over the years and in all honesty the food here isn't great, the menu is limited, basic and the food isn't cooked well. Medium-rare steak is well done, skinny chips undercooked, burger was dry. This place caters for quantity over quality which is all fair and well, however, given the recent price hike, I don't think this quality cuts it anymore.

Was unsure if we would go in or not, only 4 stars displayed for restaurant. Went in, had hungry children, was given a dirty high chair, had to tell waitress to clean it, came back not fully clean, dried in pasta sauce on it, thankfully had own antibacterial wipes, spuds were like something from a packet, pasta for child was dried and mushy, like preheated. Just overall not great.

Went for a meal to The Halfway House.The food was Excellent with a good selection, the ambience was very pleasant and the staff very attentive. Although it was very busy we were seen to very quickly and our food arrived promptly and served on warm plates.I also thought the price point for the food was excellent. Would definitely go back and would highly recommend.

Unfortunately I have had to re-evaluate my review. The last few of times I've been here the food has been good apart from the veg?? It doesn't taste fresh, more like frozen and it's tasteless, bland etc. I think the chef either needs a new supplier or something. The dishes are so nice but let down by the vegetables. Was in christmas eve for lunch with my partner and he even said the veg wasn't nice. Please look into fixing this.

Always a fantastic dining experience. Diane and the team provided us with amazing service and the food was first class as always. Gluten free options are great which pleases my Daughter. All topped off for Xmas with the Xmas Choir singing carols. Can't wait to go back for more

Food was cold, burger was cremated and dry. Vegetables were grey and cold. Vegan burger was awful, somehow butchering a moving mountains burger. Service was the worst part. Walked in and three separate staff saw us and walked the other way. Had to wait 30 minutes to get a food menu. At one point, there were 5/6 staff stood at the bar chatting so we had to walk up to do a drinks order. Food is ridiculously expensive for what you get too. I ate what i could, only because I was really hungry. Would not recommend.

Went to the halfway with a group of friends for our annual Xmas meal Atmosphere - I was pleasantly surprised. For a Monday it was fully booked but the ambience was ideal and atmosphere very chilled Staff - No complains at all. Prompt getting drinks and food orders in, refilled our water without being told, extra gravy boots and bit of back and forth banter. Starters- we all got a mixture or starters, soup, chicken, prawn cocktail, goats cheese. All I felt looked and from the feedback, tasted good with plenty of flavour and depth. Mains - Majority went for the turkey and ham and it’s only fault for me was there could have been more. One friend went for the roast beef and his cut of beef wasn’t the best, slight fatty. The vegetarian main was the biggest let down of the night. Sloppy presentation and a dollop of greasy mushrooms really cut a dampener on the main. Desert - again we got a variety of options with trifle being the highlight. My sticky toffee was a tad dry but still bursting with toffee flavour. Overall - 8 outta 10. Great atmosphere and food was very hearty pub grub. Fine dining it is not. But for a group of friends or a work do, pretty ideal. And at under £30 for 3 courses. Not too bad

Stopped on the way back from a football match with 30 players and staff. With short notice the team at the half way house cleared a room for us and fed us within a very respectable time! Thanks very much.

Accomodated a last minute booking for family lunch at the weekend, lovely spot in terms of atmosphere, staff and lovely food. Great for accomodating gluten free options. Handy for the A1 road so will be back in future.

I have been dining at halfway house for many years and with many owners but today i went there with my wife for lunch, i ordered a duck dish with veg and mash served in an orange sauce. When the dish arrived the duck itself only amounted to a paltry couple of fork fulls of the duck, overall the meal was very tasty but certainly not worth the £24.00 they charged me for it! I must now reconsider my support for this establishment

Called in for lunch on a Monday. Food was very good. I had slow cooked beef short ribs that just melted in your mouth. Great service and well priced. Will definitely be back.

We had our son's christening here and everything was perfect. From when we enquired right through to the actually day everything ran smoothly. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. We had buffet food and it was lovely, the food was continously topped up and everyone loved it. Will definitely be returning.

Had a joint birthday party, the staff could not have been more perfect! Nothing was too much trouble and they helped create the perfect atmosphere!! Food was beautiful cannot thank them enough, our guest had the best time all thanks to them!!

Fantastic venue for a private party

Lovely place to stop on way to or from Belfast. Not far from the outlets too and good much better than what's on offer over there.

The owners of the Lisnacurran Country House recommended this restaurant, and I am so glad they did! The food and service was excellent. Everyone was so kind! Scott, the bartender, went above and beyond to make sure I had just the right drinks the authentic Irish way! I had the potato and leek soup and the pork belly with mash. The pork belly was so good! The "eyes roll back in your head" type of good! I give this restaurant a 10/10! Well done! (I even made a little cow friend in the parking lot. )

We had our daughter’s first birthday party last weekend. We hired Gracie’s Lounge and opted for some buffet food. From initial enquiry to the party itself the service was superb, all the staff were super friendly and helpful nothing was too much bother for them. Food itself was brilliant, we chose 5 buffet items but they provided 6 and kept topping up the food as the party progressed. The room itself was a perfect size for our function of about 35 and we were able to put up our own decorations. A special mention to Diane; she was so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much bother and she was always on hand if we needed anything at all! Thank you so much again for helping to make our little girl’s party run so smoothly. 🥰

We had a meal in the restaurant on Friday evening 24th August 24. The staff were welcoming and extremely efficient. We were seated and had our drink order and meal order taken very quickly. Our meal was outstanding my partner had tge steak, I had duck and I have to give 10/10 it was beautiful. We will certainly be back

I had not been to N Ireland for a long time. Going back to the Half Way was a big threat years ago. The changes were very exciting for this visit. The surroundings were beautiful and the evening was an amazing success. The welcome, the efficient staff and the menu explanation was very professional. Our order was very special and the sight of 4 clean plates were a tribute to the chef and kitchen staff. There were plenty of great remarks from the diners. I will return next time I am visiting from Australia. (Just one observation - my dining in Sydney includes many Italian restaurants. However, my seafood Tagliatelle was very lacking in variety. It was very tasty but better described as salmon pasta. A few extra pieces of fish/ seafood 🍤 etc. would deserve 11/10. ) James Morgan

Called in on a whim and so glad we did. WE were welcomed with our service dog and seated so she wouldn't be distracted. Had the beef stroganoff and pene pasta. The food was excellent and well presented. Highly recommended and will return.

We had my mother in law's 90th birthday here and the staff went above and beyond. Everybody had a great time and Scott can make a great cocktail. Went back for dinner a few nights later and the food was great.

Absolutely fantastic. We were warmly greeted, seated quickly and found it very helpful to get a baby bowl meal before taking our order. The food was absolutely excellent, well priced and prompt. Couldn’t fault the food, the price or the staff. Very busy despite being a Monday evening, I can see why it’s so popular. Highly recommended.

Absolute Irish hospitality at its best , great,long, late lunch with delicious food. Perched by the fire, with old friends. We ordered from the specials menu Salmon, roast beef & prawn cocktails as well as the fab bread platter. Such a cosy vibe even when it’s not packed to the rafters. Highly recommend this as a quick stop en route to Dublin or Belfast airport but you can make it your local if you live nearby. They do lots of events too plus a really nice outside barn for lovely long evenings Highly recommend the food and great wine list cosy decor….great for the community too

Upon arrival we were Immediately greeted by Diane , who later turned out to be the director of operations. She escorted us to a quiet table for two, next to the fireside and provided both food and wine menus. Personally I was delighted with the variety of dishes, because not only were they able to offer me a special gluten free menu, but my friend could chose from an extensive ordinary menu which also included a ‘Today’s Specials’ menu. The food was delicious, accompanied by a beautiful bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and the service from their waiters was very attentive and friendly. Afterwards, Diane kindly gave us a guided tour of their multiple rooms, which were booked out that evening for various private functions. Overall, we would thoroughly recommend the restaurant and look forward to returning.

We visited the Halfway House for a family meal. It was a Monday night and was so glad we had booked a table as it was extremely busy, always a good sign. We were given a very warm welcome by Diane and our food was amazing. Great hospitality and food and we will be returning again soon.

Was traveling home from Belfast to Galway on Saturday evening and found the Halfway house on Google maps, The steak Dinner was fantastic and a lovely Selection of Deserts also. it was delicious food Friendly staff and made us feel very welcome, The Next time Im Travelling to Belfast i Know where il be stopping for Food

Went for lunch with my family here, and the experience was truly wonderful. I have a really severe peanut allergy and so eating out can be a challenging task, but the staff were so accommodating and ensured that my experience was stress free. The food was absolutely wonderful and the atmosphere was lovely, perfect spot for lunch or dinner, friendly and helpful staff. Will be back very soon to have another fine meal at this brilliant establishment

Called in on our way to Dublin to change up eating the normal Applegreen offerings and was absolutely delighted that we did. Had a lunch of chicken wings, bacon cheese burger, chips and pepper sauce - good portions and everything was tasty. Staff were friendly and welcoming and able to make suggestions from the menu with ease. The whole venue has a great relaxed atmosphere and has space to seat a few hundred by the looks of it. Huge carpark at the rear and easily accessible from the main road. Will definitely be back and would highly recommend for travellers and families.

We booked the Halfway for our 30 year School Reunion. At the time of booking we were allocated the back function room, which is small and intimate. When we arrived on Saturday evening to set up, we were upgraded to the bigger front room which suited our numbers much more. The dance floor was spacious and our DJ had his own area from which to entertain us and play the oldies from the 90’s. Special thanks to the manager Diane, she was attentive and made sure everything started for us on time despite the busy Saturday night at the Halfway. Our barman for the evening was Scott and he was fantastic keeping everyone ‘well oiled’ along with great conversation. Loved chatting to him. The buffet food we opted for was delicious - sandwiches, goujons, sausages, chips, sausages rolls, garlic bread and pizza. All dietary requirements catered for too. A fantastic night and we can’t wait to book again for the 35 year reunion.

The steak, bbq ribs, and cheesecake were all fantastic! Their appointment system was also very easy to use. The staff were also accommodating and helpful.

Enjoyed a lovely meal with my friend. I have not been in years, did hear it had new owners and the food was delicious, excellent customer service from all servers, friendly and order as requested. I had the ribs and my friend had the turkey and ham dinner. Lots of choice on the menu and more than one special on too. Would recommend and will return.

Wasn't great. Gammon steaks were thin and dry as Ghandi's flipflop. Was expecting thick and juicy. But staff were attentive

We have been to the Halfway House several times, it’s a favourite spot for us. This time (Tuesday 16th April) was a special occasion being our 25th wedding anniversary. As per expectations the food and service was great. Got a good table beside the wood stove which there was a nice heat and smell coming from making the atmosphere even more homely. We were served by Diane who was just fantastic and friendly. When I couldn’t decide on dessert (Banoffee or Jammie Joey) Diane helped me make that call, Jammie Joey it was. She was totally right and I have to agree with her, it really did remind me of one of my favourite desserts at school. However, Diane didn’t leave it there, she surprised me with a sample slice of the Banoffee pie too - and yes it would have been an excellent choice too. Thanks Diane for a fantastic service and looking after us on our special evening, which we didn’t tell you about but regardless your customer service was spot on. Hope the management gives you a copy of this review along with a nice bonus. Looking forward to our next visit.

First visit to this beautiful restaurant. So pretty and fabulous staff. Food was delicious. Had the curry masala. My son had the beef looked amazing. Definitely recommend this beautiful venue. Looking forward to going back for Afternoon Tea 💕💕

The lemon drizzle cake is to die for!

Had lunch with my buddy and her grandson. What a great place to eat. The decor is lovely and impeccable toilets. I had the roast gammon dinner, delicious 😋 My buddy had a few starters for her main and raved about the goats cheese. Nacho starters were yummy. Excellent children's menu. The overall ambiance in the restaurant is lovely and the service excellent. Very impressed with the solar panels. Will definitely return.
