The Halfway House in Ballymena

Parking is a bit of a problem dangerous road. We booked a table for 6. Had some starters to share and were very nice the boys had burgers which they said was great myself and daughter-in-law had the braised beef and I must say it was absolutely delicious. The only thing missing was a few roast potatoes not on the menu just my personal opinion overall great food great service

Called in for dinner and we both order the turkey and ham dinner, turkey, ham, stuffing, mash and roast potatoes and veg. Dinner arrived without the roast potatoes when asked about our food we pointed out that we did not get any roast potatoes only to be told there are none left. Very disappointed not to be told this before serving the meal and then to be charged the full amount for incomplete meals

Food and service were outstanding the only reason I marked 4 for atmosphere was because of the noise. Although it was a Friday evening and the venue was very busy. We had booked a table and were taken to it immediately we arrived. I had the burger which was delicious, my friends had turkey and ham, roast beef and pan fried chicken, they all commented on how good these dishes were and plenty on the plate. Would recommend and definitely visit again.

My favourite place in Northern Ireland to eat, can't get enough of the place. Food is well presented , lovely staff and plenty of craic. Glenarm beef dinner is amazing. Tried most of the dinners over the years and haven't been let down yet

Brilliant wee pub. Just back from sunday brunch. Girlfriend had salt a chill starter, turkey and ham main. I the feta and pine nut salad and Glenarm beef. Everything was perfect. Left very satisfied and we shall definitely be back. Could tell it was starting to pick up and would be a lot busier in the evenings. Advised to book before going. Staff are friendly and attentive. 5 stars all round.

Completely changed my perception, live within sight of it, but had never visited. Excellent pub, all you could ask for, all the rural characters at the bar, excellent atmosphere, attentive and hard-working landlord and staff, plus very good food. As authentic a country pub as you'll find in Ireland, and clearly neutral ground in sectarian terms.

Typical pub, very good food, very good service, lots going on and great atmosphere. The only thing is that the pub can't be found somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Reservation is recommended.

Went here for my husband's 60th birthday the atmosphere was great the food was excellent and the staff worked very hard to accommodate all our needs even to bringing my son food to the car as he has an extremely sore leg and found it too difficult to sit with his leg down.

Not the best meal I've had I ordered the haddock and chips everything tasted of garlic and the haddock was swimming in mushy peas. I've had the same meal in Coleman's and Jake's bar in Antrim much better and cheaper. Out of 10 I'd give the Halfway house a 5 .

First time visiting after a recommendation from a friend. We both had the Turkey & Ham dinner and it was really lovely. Just one thing - a couple of roasties would have made it even better! Desserts were also really good and staff were very pleasant and attentive. Would definitely return

Well, what can I say, I can't say anything about the food, the service is nice, the people are nice, the atmosphere is great, just like in beautiful Irish pubs, it's just a pity that you can only get food there around 4 p.m.

They catered for my mother Barbara Powell's 90th birthday 15 meals the majority of us had the beef absolutely delicious!! Turkey and ham and steak meals were just as amazing.They went above and beyond for us THANKS everyone at Halfway for helping to make her day extra special.would highly recommend 💯😋

We booked table for 5.30pm parking was tight just off the main road not allot of space either . Enter into dark bar lounge shown to table it was for 4 off us ,only fit for 2 people . Service and food was good .

After climbing Slemish called in for lunch. The staff were really friendly and the food was excellent, will definitely be back.

Not the first time to eat there and I had some really delicious meals in The Halfway House. The staff are very attentive but more importantly the food is always great. There is a lively buzz to this bar/restaurant. It has outside tables for the rare occasion that the weather is good enough. It is very busy which is always a good sign and tells you all you need to know.

I had meal there with my partner and a couple of friends and from the start to finish I could not fault it many thanks Nancy.

The staff having a public squabble about where to seat us kinda set things back a bit. Then being openly stared at by the table across the way for 10 minutes was a bit unnerving. However, when the dust settled (and the table opposite left), the service was reasonable, and the food was well presented with decent flavour, and on another night I'd be pretty sure a bit craic could be had (will update you on that later).

I hadn't been in The Halfway for some years and was absolutely delighted. It is lovely inside, but still felt warm and cosy. The staff were really friendly, our meal came in double quick time even though it was new year's day and it was really busy. The food was excellent , there were two vegetarians in our party and we were given 3 options that I have never come across elsewhere.so something different. The price for what we got was very reasonable too. The only downside was a whiff of diesel but we thought there must have been a spill outside and it wouldn't put us off returning. Which we definitely will!

A popular spot with a great atmosphere. The Guinness is poured well and tastes great. I had the ribeye steak (£20) which was tasty but to be honest not as tender as you might expect... Would I have it again? Yes. Other menu selections such as the braised beef and the roast turkey were well presented and thoroughly enjoyed. Staff are very friendly and attentive.

Food was amazing and host Barry runs a tight ship. The place was full, but the meals came out quickly. The serving staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Barry also came and had a chat. This place is more than just a pub, it’s an experience!

From the friendly smile of welcome to the wave goodbye as we left, this pub had it all. The food was just wonderful, I had the Glenarm Bay Lobster and the men had the steaks cooked perfectly to their exacting standards. The other ladies had scampi and turkey & ham which they thoroughly enjoyed too. Although the restaurant was full, the staff were attentive and friendly, obviously well trained! Washroom was spotless, always a bonus. Definitely worth a visit ! We'll be back!

What ruined our first experience here at the halfway house was my wife's meal which was turkey and ham, when it arrived at the table there was a very small amount of gravy on her plate, she asked for a little more gravy and a full boat was brought to the table, when the bill arrived we were charged an extra £2,50, I thought this was a tad excessive as gravy was part of the meal.

Once again, The Halfway House outside Broughshane does not let you down. We booked a table this weekend where we experienced great customer service and amazing food. The Hamill family and their excellent staff always go out of their way to make sure all their guests are being well looked after. This is undoubtedly the best restaurant in the region.

Always lovely food with quick service

We visited on a Friday evening, staff were very attentive and friendly, we had 2 sirloins and a turkey and ham dinner, the steaks were cooked to perfection although there was quite a lot of grease on the plates from the saute onions,tobacco onions were ordered and when they arrived they were really soggy instead of being crispy. The turkey and ham was a good sized portion and looked really nice although there was only a very small amount of gravy on the plate. We asked for a little extra gravy and when we received the bill we noticed that we had been charged an extra £2.50 which we thought was a bit excessive, pity about that as it put a bit of a damper on our first experience in The Halfway House.

A lively and well-kept traditional Irish pub offering great craic, with food and drinks to supplement. A hearty selection of draughts, cocktails and monthly specials brought me in, the food and community brought me back!

First time having Sunday lunch here. The food was beautiful, the service was quick a day staff were friendly. Would recommend this pub to anyone.

You know your at a good restaurant when you can just about get a car parking space . I can recommend the tbone steak with all the trimmings

Very average. Not sure why this gets such good reviews as it is nothing special. All three of our meals were ok but not great. Service was not very attentive. No Tobasco or any hot sauce (and only plastic sachets of the sauces they do have which sets the tone of the place.) Rather bland flavours in all three mains. My pepper sauce was a pepper gravy. My wife’s sauce was also rather bland. Service lacking— we had to be proactive to get anything.

I booked a table at The Halfway House near Broughshane for Mother’s Day. I requested in advance a table with easy access for my Mother’s wheelchair. From the point we arrived until the moment we left, the management and staff at The Halfway House couldn’t have done enough for us. As it was Mothers Day, my Mum was offered a complimentary glass of Prosecco upon arrival. Our food came to our table piping hot, freshly cooked and well presented; all the staff made sure we had everything we needed. In my opinion The Halfway House just outside Broughshane is a “hidden gem”. Other local bars and restaurants should book a table sometime soon, go and sit watch, taste and learn how a bar/restaurant is properly managed and experience how genuine customer service works. I cannot rate this place high enough, well worth a visit.

From the point we arrived until the moment we left, the management and staff at The Halfway House couldn’t have done enough for us. Called for lunch today with family. Food was excellent, beautiful pub and very clean. Had shorthorn beef on recommendation from waitress. Was faultless, maybe a little more potatoe on plate would have just made it perfect. Fabulous lemon posset for dessert. We will be Back again soon to try some more of the menu!

Absolutely outstanding food. We knew the Halfway House from thirty years ago but o boy its now my local, go to eatery. A gem of a place set in the countyside just outside Broughshane. Even the exterior colour of the place is so warm and inviting. On entering such a warm reception, knowledgeable and helpfull staff. Defo be back, in fact twice over this weekend, lol. Updade........ My journey through the Halfway House menu continues, the scallops a must for all you seafood lovers!!!!

Nice bar sat outside with our dogs enjoyed a few Guinness and loved the tranquillity. The bar inside is old school but awesome very clean and extremely friendly :)

Had lunch there today having enjoyed our visit there last year. They were happy to serve my wife with a kids-sized meal as she does not have a massive appetite, but the size and quality of the braised beef for £5 was amazing. I had the full sized dish, and again it was absolutely lovely. Drinks are very reasonably priced (£4.10 small red wine, and £3.80 for a pint of lager), and the staff were super-friendly. I'd definitely go again, and would recommend it to anyone.

More than just a country pub. Slick cheerful & efficient service. Bustling restaurant with simple decor & furniture. Main menu typical fayre, but the specials were way more interesting. If I have a criticism it was the lack of finger bowl, a lobster fork and side plate for the otherwise very tasty lobster dish. However, we will be back.

A hidden gem in the Glens. Exceptional menu, food had our taste buds dancing with every bite. Wine just added to the experience. Staff couldn't do enough. Felt very safe and a very relaxing atmosphere. Well done to the whole team.

Date night with my boyfriend on Saturday night. Great atmosphere and very friendly and welcoming staff. I had the pan fried chicken and my boyfriend had fish and chips, both were absolutely delicious! He had a Guinness and I enjoyed a strawberry daiquiri, probably the nicest I've ever had! Would highly recommend and we will be back!

This is a lovely spot in Broughshane- owners Pat and Barry are the loveliest people and the food is fantastic. Staff are warm and friendly and the interior of the place is really homely.
