Had a birthday celebration with my daughter well looked after and the food was amazing. A lovely place steeped in history with fabulous views

The food was good but the service was very poor. We had to find waiters to help us. Inexperienced staff didn't know what the dishes were or even where to find a wine menu.

Whilst we enjoyed the food, the service was a let down for the prices charged. It seemed there were trainee staff who didn’t really know about the food or what is expected at this dining level. They needed more support from the more experienced service staff. Whilst our gripes are minor, the prices aren’t.

I went there a couple of months ago and this place is truly amazing. Elegant white table cloth service with an excellent menu. Perfectly cooked classical dishes with little twists and a well balanced wine list make for a sophisticated yet unpretentious dining experience.

The perfect Afternoon Tea experience. Excellent food, service & atmosphere. Very accommodating to our group which had dietary restrictions such as dairy and gluten. The section of sandwiches, cakes & scones were fantastic! I was extremely impressed and I will definitely be going back. Highly recommend coming here for special occasions!

We had a reservation for 18.00. However the fine print on the confirmation email stipulated we should have been there 30 minutes early which we did not realise as we expected a 18.00 reservation was in fact a 18.00 reservation. The whole mix up caused the waiter to become very worked up and unfortunately, very rude and unprofessional. We raised it to the management in our feedback but they did not take well to constructive feedback and continued the unprofessionalism that we experienced in the dining room. If we were expected to arrive at 17.30 for a 18.00 perhaps the Gunroom should call the reservation what it is, a reservation for 17.30. Edit: we were the first to be seated in the dining room. The other guests followed us in from the front room. Seeing your feedback about guests starting to you eat, you might be mixing us up with someone else.

Something about writing this really pains me, as there was so much potential in what they are doing and the staff really were trying and were so enthusiastic– but the actual standard of front of house service was "luxury" style, but with none of the ease you'd find in a Michelin starred restaurant. As if someone took the attributes of luxury (white gloves, bowing, fancy outfits) and sort of missed the part where luxury might have those attributes, but to me modern luxury is about high end ease. I'll explain what I mean in a moment, but first a word on the food! The food was very good. Surprisingly, the bread was the star of the show and really was fantastically warm was smoked- I could have had that for my whole meal and been happy. Daniel ap Geraint has done a great job getting that kitchen into order and delivering a high standard of food. I'd say the food matches a 1-star Michelin at least! Now- to the experience: We entered a beautiful estate down a treelined private drive that looked like a movie set! Amazing start! We arrived 25 minutes before our reservation because if you look at the reviews on OpenTable, your meal / ordering actually take place before you are sat at your table. This isn't something I've heard of anywhere else- normally you might be able to arrive before your booked time and get a drink, but the staff won't expect you early as part of the process. We didn't have a problem though, just a little odd. We were shown into the drawing room of the home, because you're eating in the actual home of Lord Snowdon and Princess Margaret- so cool! And, while dated, the decor fit the theme. 1950's version of fancy. Plush overstuffed floral print couches, antique wood furniture, and royal family photos and newspapers. We were sat in an L shape configuration around a coffee table and menus were placed. The first odd bit started about here, where because of the coffee tables in front of us were covered in stacks of uneven books, the menus were kind of haphazardly placed on top of the piles. It looked a bit of a mess! I'd much rather that they have cleared off those tables or put some flowers and a candle on them, and given you more room for normal pre-dinner coffee table goods. About 15 minutes before the reservation time we had chosen, we were asked to place our order while sat in the lounge. At the time of the reservation, everyone in the lounge (I mean, everyone!) was moved to a back room with a big fireplace. The meal was served exactly 3 courses and at almost the exact same time to all 6 parties with the same dining time. I honestly haven't seen that anywhere, normally tasting menus are staggered and each group can go at their own pace with drinks and courses. By the time we got to the end of the meal, we had ordered the cheese course. Everyone had completed dinner and the other parties all got up and left. We were sat with a full bottle of wine and waiting our cheese course in a now empty small dining area. The server comes over and asks us to leave the dining room and move to be served the cheese course. This was maybe 3 minutes after everyone else filed out. A little rushed feeling for 'luxury', but sure, we're good sports. The thing is, we're left to carry our own wine glasses and bottle of wine ourselves as she left just pointing us towards the drawing room from earlier. Here we are, dressed up, holding a wine bucket wandering the halls to find our way to the lounge. When we get there– the drawing room is full! There aren't any seats for us to sit and have the cheese course that was part of our menu. We start panicking figuring out where to sit and what to do, as there wasn't any staff around to point us where to go. We found staff who had us join a couple on their _anniversary dinner_, where the server placed the cheese plate haphazardly on top of two different piles of books. She left, and we never were served again that night- no drink orders, no bringing us water. We actually had to go get up to ask for forks and knives for that course! Not my luxury.

Very kind and friendly staff. Small dishes in between menu courses are a nice addition. Not cheap - dinner menu plus two small drinks and tip was £100. But then it has a Michelin star.

Lovely meal. Enjoyed every course plus the extras thrown in between. Everything tasty and beautifully presented

Overall a great experience and we particularly enjoyed the in between canapés. The lamb was also delicious. Removing a star because the deserts were a bit disappointing. The rhubarb bombe tasted a bit like calpol (kids cough syrup) and the apple desert needed more crunch. Otherwise really nice though.

Wonderful! Totally lived up to it's reputation of an elegantly exquisite environment, beautifully prepared and graciously presented food and beverages, enabling us to truly relax and savour our time away from the norms of our lives. Thank you, from us all!

An exceptional evening from the greet , the pre dinner drinks, the attentive friendly service from Isabelle to the mouthwatering delights of every dish served. To have this quality of food on our doorstep is a delight. If you have never experienced the Gunroom then you are missing out in a treat.

Booked dinner in restaurant and we arrived slightly late but staff were very understanding. Food was nice and the complementary dishes that were served to us were very tasty. The only let down was that some off the staff didnt know the name of the wine only by number! And when our dessert was served to us the waiter couldn't describe what was in either dishes, he had to get the menu and read it to us! We asked could we have our after dinner drinks outside in the garden which was lovely but as we were sitting there a chef and another staff member brought bins out. Maybe that could off been done later or more discretely. The grounds and interior building are amazing but I do feel that the comments I have made are letting the culinary side down.

Amazing fine dining, staff were excellent too. We stayed for 2 nights as a treat with friends. A huge selection for breakfast to choose from. Highly recommended.

Had an amazing experience. We are gluten and dairy intolerant and for the first time in an absolute age we felt normal as they totally catered for us. The food was excellent, the service excellent and the venue excellent. This will be our go to place for a special occasion restaurant without doubt. Many thanks to all the staff.

What an amazing experience from start to finish! The immaculately dressed staff were so attentive from our initial meet. Not overpowering, but when I felt the need for more service, they just appeared? We felt very special from arrival, our every need and unique request was taken care of effortlessly. The food was exquisite, the November menu that we had, left me and my Family lost for words, delicious and very filling! We vowed never to eat again.... Until breakfast ❤️❤️❤️
