The Grove at Walcot in Telford and Wrekin

Are here many times. Great food & lots of it. Friendly team & great service. Tried to rebook for a couple of days ago, to be told fully booked until current owners retire today (29/01). Gutted. Hope this place is taken over by new management who keep it going with the current team, minus the retirees. Just wanted to say thank you to all for some really great evenings. So sad... but enjoy your well earned retirement. Thank you!

We decided to give our usual date night restaurant a miss and try the Grove at Walcot after seeing another couple we know go here. Unfortunately the pictures we saw didn't look like what arrived on our plates 😕 my husband had the mixed grill and I had the 10onz sirloin. My husband said the meat was okay but the steak was terrible 😫 mine was also the same. Like really bad cuts alot of gristle in mine. The chips were all tiny had about 3 chunky ones and the tomato ketchup tasted cheap with vinager added. The price close to £80 is really not worth it. But I will mention pudding was beautiful. Lesson learnt stick to miller and carter which is cheaper and photos can be very deceiving. Shame really as I was really looking forward this place 😪

Booked at The Grove for a birthday meal and what a wonderful experience. From the road The Grove does not give away it's secrets and this makes for a great surprise for the first time visitor. The wonderfully kept garden leads into a cosy restaurant and bar with an ambience to match its surroundings. The sight of the well stocked sweet fridge with some of the most amazing puddings was a great start to the evening. Photos taken and sent to the kids making them very jealous. The food was excellent and very tasty and the service was exceptional. If you have never been before the manner in which the steaks are presented is brilliant, I won't spoil the surprise here though. A fantastic experience and one we will definitely be revisiting.

Food was very good and no complaints HOWEVER My Son and Daughter had brought a small birthday cake with them for me When I asked for some small plates I was told we could not eat this on the premises because of food alagins Naturally this was very disappointing and the birthday cake taken home. I suggest it was possible that there was an expection for us to order their desserts also GIven the subject matter as it is My advice would be to show some decor and fo resight in such matters as a small birthday cake is an important and usual celebrative part of an individuals Birthday

My husband and i eat at many locations and we ussually go by the star rating and reviews. Tgis liitle place was recomended by my daughter and i have to say it was fantastic. A very simple menu various types of steak from t bone to serloin cooked at tbe table on lava rock served with tomatoes onion mushroom and salad options of sauces. Srrf and terf, mixed grill and a few other odds and sods. And a desert menu to satisfy any sweet tooth. The management were welcomeing as was tge atmosphere. Staf attentive. Only downside is that they are selling in jan so whoevers buying the place all i can say is "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" In otherwords keep the same menu and standereds!!

We had been told of the Grove by a friend who said it was really worth the visit. The reviews made me chuckle, because even the one star reviews were answered in a way which made us want to go more and more. So myself, my wife, our two friends from Scotland and my ten year old daughter made the journey and we were not disappointed. We didn't have starters because i was too eager to get my hands on some gorgeous steaks. And it did not disappoint. The quality was incredible and the cooking even better. I would go as so far to say the best i have ever eaten in a restaurant. Oh yes thats cause i cooked it myself. You see, the concept of this place is to cook on lava rocks which means you cook it yourself. The owner who was great - handed out bibs because we were clearly to poshly dressed for the self cook experience. so thats tip one, dress nicely, but be aware that fat will splatter when cooking. The waitress was great and attentive and really made the evening so seamless and carefree. finally, dont be put off with the empty fridges for puddings, these are empty because of Covid and the regulations, but OMG they are amazing. you will not to miss them. all round a great evening and one we will be repeating again and again and again

Sticky tables and a REALLY slow service, even though it was empty. The chips tasted like those you get from a fast food chippy; greasy and with a high fat content. The steak on a volcanic rock was nice and tender, finished by yourself to your liking. My wife ordered a lemon meringue for dessert and after waiting over 30 minutes for it, we had to interrupt the waiting staff from their clearly more important private conversation to find out if it was ever going to be brought out. For the price we paid, even allowing for its remoteness, I would expect a lot better. A cleaned table would have been an appropriate start.

We visited for dinner. Lovely garden and house, setting is lovely. We were greeted straight away by a nice lady who explained the menu etc. The steak is served on a lava rock at the table so basically you cook the steak to your own requirements. The steak was lovely but… was spoilt be really cheap, watery coleslaw and greasy onion rings. Also my pepper sauce was just a cream sauce. And that’s what I mean about gimmicks over substance. The meat was quality but the rest was not. The service was good and very friendly.

Pleasant surroundings. Fantastic steak on the stone - so tasty. Followed by a great selection of homemade puddings. Well worth a visit.

Being a vegan is always a struggle when dining out, especially in Shropshire which doesn't seem to like to cater for Vegans, however The Grove at Walcot managed to cater for my needs perfectly. Due to COVID the restaurant required a pre-order from myself and my other half before our arrival, which actually meant when we arrived at the restaurant that our food arrived quickly (great if you're hungry which we always are!). The starter for myself was a vegetable soup which was okay, not very tasty but warm for a winter meal. The main course was a 3 bean chili with rice which was the tastiest chili I've had, a great kick to it and a great portion. For dessert they offered a vegan caramel cheesecake which was absolutely delicious and went down a treat. My other half being a meat eater was extremely happy to delve into one of the Groves famous stone steaks, which he said was one of the best steaks he's had in ages and he definitely enjoyed the theatrical aspect of cooking it himself as I'm sure everyone does. All in all we would be more than happy to return to The Grove and could not fault the service which is always so personal and top notch. Thanks to the whole team for a great meal out in these testing times!

Rather than eating bland hotel food, Opted to take a drive out to Walcot ( A place I grew up not too far from) and was so glad I did. Ribeye was beautiful, with home made chips - not too greasy as some can be, hand pulled beer was well kept and the bill was very reasonable considering the quality of the raw ingredients and the standard of cooking (and I'm not just on about the steak, you sort of cook that yourself).Service was also perfectly judged, personable but not overbearing. A great find, and talking to some of the locals, consistently high standards!

From the moment I picked up the phone to book a table the service from this place was spot on. Really friendly, informative and relaxed. There were 3 menus on offer. Sunday roast, specials or steaks. The Sunday dinners were really plentiful and my 30oz rump steak arrived on a hot stone to cook at the table. Excellent touch. The puddings are amazing with more than 20 to choose from. We will definitely return to maybe try an ostrich steak and another different dessert. Really nice gastro style pub that is still friendly, good value and a little different from the norm.

Every visit to the Grove is a special one. My wife and I really enjoy the food that is on offer. The service is of the highest quality and the portions are more than filling. But try to leave a little room for desert, as they too are something that will have you coming back for more. The value is excellent and although it may be a touch more expensive than some of the local eateries, it is surely well worth the extra.

The quality of the food was exceptional. They are more than happy to cater for special diets. The desserts were mind blowing but need to be shared as they were huge.

Sunday Lunch was lovely and lots of it. We have been a few times and have come away happy and full, portion sizes are huge in both mains and the homemade desserts. Definitely a great place for a big appetite, the lunch was all homemade including a delicious parsnip roulade and proper roast potatoes.

The whole family loves this place, we only tend to go for special occasions but it's consistently great every time! The puddings are AMAZING.

Having dined here several times but not being able to manage a dessert after a main course I was really looking forward to trying one after a light meal. It was such a disappointment. "Belgian Chocolate cheesecake" was more like a stodgy mousse and it had what appeared to be a sliced Mars bar on the top. The chocolate was not Belgian type at all. A "Black Forest Gateau" was just a chocolate fudge cake - no layers of cream, no cherries and not a hint of kirsch. The whole thing was a very dark chocolate colour. Another dessert was a sponge which was described as dry. The waitress said she'd pass on comments but despite waiting quite a while nobody came to our table to enquire.

Following great reviews on Trip Advisor I had to try The Grove! I am really pleased I did. A real gem. A friendly welcome, good food and service and puddings to die for!As well as the normal they also offer 'Black Rock' cook at the table steaks, crocodile, ostrich etc. If you live anywhere near The Grove or are in the area go and try it, I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

Went for a family meal and was not disappointed. There was plenty of choice on the menu and even different options of meat. I had the Ostrich steak. This was served on hot volcanic rock to cook to my own tastes with my choice of butter pattie. The desserts were enormous and so much choice! Every single member of our party had one, including one member who opted for the takeaway option (i love that this is available). I feel that for what you get and the quality of the food, that it is fairly priced. £20.99 for my Ostrich steak. But it was good quality, the chips and accompaniments were homemade/fresh. I was happy to pay this. The staff were all friendly and helpful. On an unusual note, i wouldn't normally mention them, but the ladies toilets were the most lady and baby friendly ones I've been too. They had everything available (see picture). Randomly, but i love the quirkiness of it, you can buy trays or boxes of fresh eggs there too! There's a nice beer garden available, though the British weather didn't allow us to us it at the time! I will definitely be visiting again.

This is the second visit this week, a really nice experience. Decor is a little dated and the car park a little unkempt but service is good there is a warm welcome and a great menu and a fantastic puddings menu. A bit on the pricey side but fine for that special occasion

Everything about this place oozes quality. The staff are efficient and welcoming, the food is wholesome and far removed from the fare served in many chain restaurants. Sumptuous steak that cooks on a hot plate whilst you are eating it, chunky home made chips, zesty sauces to compliment the steak and a wonderful array of desserts.

I use the grove for Sunday dinners, it's the best around for me and the family. Don't really know the landlord and landlady personally, they all seem friendly and the staff are all good... They have been in the place for years from what I read on here.. It's a relaxed place, don't think they push to get as many punters through the door.. Seems the sort of place which word of mouth keeps enough coming through the door..

Cannot believe we have driven past this wonderful place so many times we won't be driving past in the future . From the minute we entered the service was wonderful very welcoming without being fussy young lady behind the bar gave us loads of info I was immediately drawn to the dessert fridge which I could have happily climbed into ! I chose Gammon and the other half had a rock steak the chips were chunky and everything else was wonderful . I could not leave without having dessert I felt it would have been rude but so many to choose I had lemon and blueberry pie it was pure heaven and I forgot to say they also had my favourite tipple jack rabbit wine and the other half had a local ale Shropshire gold . The best surprise was the bill under £55 we will definatly be back as they also offer a loyalty scheme .

The Grove is out in the sticks a bit, so is a car journey for its diners.It has a good sized car park, and a large well laid our beer garden with an extensive decking area.I never think the Grove looks particularly inviting as you whizz past along the road, and even when you step inside it does look a little tired and old fashioned.But if it's a good meal you're after then look no further.The Grove offers a very varied and unusual menu choice, featuring Steaks served on hot volcanic stones, to Wild meats such as Kangaroo, Buffalo , Ostrich and Crocodile .The desserts are to die for, and indeed we were so full after two courses, we had our deserts boxed up and took them home with us...

I had the wild grill the first time I came, which was kangaroo, ostrich and crocodile, presentation was great and the food was delicious. I did have the fillet steak the second time and I can honestly say it was one of the best steaks I've had! Portions are really good too. They also have a fab range of beautiful desserts. You really go away feeling satisfied. Will definitely visit again!

We came here as a four, for Sunday lunch. We had starter's, main and dessert. I was very impressed with the started which was soup, the meat was delicious, tender and plenty of it, and there was plenty of vegetables and gravy. The puddings well.. that is a different story, the selection in the display cabinet is something you need to see. I had Chocolate Fudge cake, which was amazing, not to rich and the cake was very moist. The family had Baileys cheesecake and cherry crumble, there was not an inch left.I would highly recommend to anyone. The price, for 4 of us to have 3 courses, and drinks worked roughly about £25 a head.

What an absolute gem hidden in the country we visited as a party of twelve for my sons eighteenth birthday food and facilities where top class and excellent value for money the landlord made us feel most welcome and the steaks are to die for will definitely be returning soon ,what a birthday cake provided felt so full afterwards that I couldn't attempt one the scrumptious looking desserts on offer thankyou to all the staff at the grove it was a wonderful afternoon

We went to the Grove on the 26th of May for our 21st wedding anniversary and was so glad we did.My wife never knew where we were going so it was a risky surprise but she loved it.As soon as you walk in all the staff are so very nice and make you feel very welcome.The menu is very good and theres specials available as well.We had black pudding starter and also the fish cake which were both great.Then it was a steak each,rib eye for the wife ,big T bone for me lol.These arrive on red hot rocks so you let it cook how you want which is great,I like steak very rare so they bring you an extra plate to place your on from off the rocks.Now the final part of this review the puddings!!!.Oh my god there is so many to choose from.We both had chocolate fudge cake and it was fabulous and massive!!!.I have to say I rolled out of the pub lol.I'm sorry this review is long but it still doesn't tell the whole story,make sure you try this restaurant otherwise your really missing out.Oh nearly forgot they even put a anniversary balloon on our table!!!.

Booked a table for Sunday Lunch and we were not disappointed. We both decided on the beef which was beautifully tender and melt in the mouth, a good selection of hot vegetables and tasty roast potatoes and plenty of gravy, (we declined the Yorkshire puddings as neither of us ever eat them but I have been told they are 'yummy') the vegetables were that good we even asked for more which were bought promptly to us again lovely and hot. Unfortunately we could not manage a desert as we were 'stuffed'.Staff were very friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble, a credit to the establishment.We love The Grove so much we are booked in as a Party of 12 again later in the week to celebrate a family birthday.I would definitely recommend a visit soon.

Food was fine, nice restaurant but the landlord is a very unpleasant man, very rude. Will not visit there again.

Stumbled upon this place when out on a drive, and stopped for lunch. The menu is long, and their steaks looked fabulous. Everything is home-cooked - no sign of re-heated frozen fare. Tasty, and very generous portions. The puddings are uniformly fabulous. Your biggest problem is choosing which one. It has a quirky interior, which feels like a mad auntie's house, in a good way. The attractive, slightly overgrown garden, is full of birds benefitting from many bird-feeders, and a pond full of fat goldfish. Basically everyone gets well fed at The Grove. We'll be back in the summer to dine outside.

Went last Friday, first time visit and I went for the steak cooked on volcanic rock. Great idea and a different experience, to cook your steak the way you like it! Desserts were difficult to choose as there were so many, but managed to pick the Baileys cheesecake which was nice. The quality of the meat was good. There were other options that were cheaper than the steak and a good wide ranging choice. Service was excellent and the beer was good too.Will definitely visit again
