We had just walked curbar edge. And we're looking forward to grabbing a quick bite in the warmth. The smell of chips drew us in. Front door sign sain no children in main bar. So we went round to the side to find a way in to the back room. Found our way and found a spare seat. We were unsure how the service was. So after 5to 10 mins we left the kids to search for a member of staff or bar to view a menu and order. We only had chip butties as the sun would go down soon and we needed to crack on with our walk. 4 chip butties 2 pops and 2 coffees arrived nice and hot and quick. Cost about £32. Warm room. Seemed popular. Nice christmas touches.

we ordered fish and chips, fish finger sandwich, spicy carrot soup, bread and butter pudding and blackberry apple pie. the fish and chips were crispy. the fish finger was not home made, it was ready made. It would be better if it was home made, I liked the salad of fish finger sandwich. both desserts were good. the soup was tasty.

We have eaten at the Grouse Inn now a few times and have never had a bad meal. Previous chefs specials have to rate as some of the best pub food we have had. Last Friday we called in, it was busy and we had to wait, no problem. The beer, atmosphere and staff were great. The meal however was not. We had fish and chips which was an uninspired plate of food which I could have made. Nice fish but very plain frozen chips with peas. No quarter of lemon, no tarter sauce and no side salad ( even if it is only for decoration). This meal was not worth £17.00. Very disappointed.

A nice pub with good views and decent food. However, I really think they should re-evaluate their policy of not letting children into the main bar area. We came here in the middle of a walk a couple of Sundays ago with our three year old, and my 8 month pregnant sister, at lunchtime. I’d tried to book the day before but was told they didn’t take bookings and we’d be fine just showing up. The back room, in which children are allowed, was full, but there was a nice table which would have seated us all comfortably in the main bar area. We were told, however, that children were not allowed in that room and also that there was an hour wait on food. We therefore had no choice but to sit outside for an hour waiting for food with a three year old in the freezing cold (it was a two hour walk back to the car and we were hungry). When I asked if an exception could be made as it was so cold and she was so little, I was told no and that the policy was to protect the carpet from mess. I cannot believe that a country pub, which caters largely to families on walks in Longshaw has such an unfriendly policy towards families and children. It feels extremely unwelcoming and old-fashioned, especially as they know that it is not as if people on walks have a choice of pubs to go to. (I can understand city pubs having no children policies if that is their vibe, but this is the first time I’ve encountered a country pub at Sunday lunchtime not letting children into a dining area of the pub). Visitors don’t care about the carpet, but they care about a friendly atmosphere and not being excluded simply for having children. We certainly won’t be coming here again, which is a shame.

After a good 4 hours walking with our 3 dogs we stumbled upon The Grouse Inn So we decided to have dinner and drinks. We went in the front door to be met by a sign saying 'no dogs or children, use back door' Went to the back door to be met by a sign saying 'no dogs or children' So i asked the waiter where I could go, he said I couldn't take my dogs inside as they had a big table of people in 'the dog friendly bit' Luckily it wasn't raining so we sat out side. I ordered my drinks and asked about food. Was told I needed to hurry as the restaurant closes at 2pm, so we rushed our order to the barman. The bloke behind me was told he needed to hurry as the restaurant closes at 2:15 😱 Believe it or not, the bloke behind him was told to hurry as the restaurant closes at 2:30. 😂 Anyway, my fish and chips tasted like they'd been warned up most of the day, no matter how much tartar sauce, salt, vinegar and ketchup I put on, it was absolutely tasteless. There wasn't any check back to see if the food was ok. The only time the came back was to clear the table. 1st and last time eating at The Grouse Inn The only good thing about the place was the barman was too busy telling everyone to hurry up with their orders, he forgot to charge me for 2 pints of San Miguel. 😀😀👍🏻

Having looked at the reviews and taken a lot of trouble to find the Grouse as the post code on the website doesn't take you to the correct location. When we arrived with our dog we were directed to the bar / restaurant area allowing dogs and children then being allowed to chose our own table of , was fine at the time there were two largish parties at two other tables one of about 12 persons including several children. We sat at our table which had the empty glasses in place from the previous occupants. Having chosen our meals inc starters and mains which were ordered at the bar returned to the table. The starters arrived and were eaten but the empty glasses from the previous occupa ts remained. Layer the mains arrived and again were consumed but the empty glasses remains which also meant that the table had not been cleaned or sanitised either. The situation was now becoming the joke of the evening and where we might have mentioned the situation to staff we wanted to see which departed the table first us or the glasses. It was us!!! We were not alone in the debacle of un cleared tables. The large party of 12 self cleared the used crockery from the main course ro make way for their desserts. This was placed on an unoccupied table which at best was only partially cleared by the time that we departed. Regarding the food we both had different choices amd unfortunately we both left a substantial part of our meals as on the evening the food offering was barely adequate. We had eaten out for the last ten evenings and we both honestly agreed that it was the worst meal we had had on this trip. On our experience that evening we are surprised that the current rating of 4.5 had been achieved when compared to other establishments in the area.

Having had a nice hike near Hathersage, we wanted a nice country pub, dog friendly, between there and home (Leek, Staffordshire) The staff are friendly, the food was tasty, garlic mushroom starter each for us both, scampi for myself and a pie from the specials board for my partner. They serve small portions for the majority of their mains if you've not got a large appetite. The views from the outside sitting area overlooking the Derbyshire dales is another positive. 100% recommend a visit and we will definitely return at some point.

Visited this pub twice in 2 weeks and both times the Bank’s bitter was off, cloudy, flat and tasted rancid ! Nothing flash. Just a good honest pub. Bit rough round the edges but in a good way. It's the way pubs should be in my opinion. Young lads behind bar could do with stepping up little but at are friendly enough. Limited choice on menu but the pie is fantastic. Actually if they just served pie and chips I think it'd still be good. Proper walkers/runners pub. Oh 1 more thing to mention. Website says that 9pm food stops. It's actually 8 ish..

Stopped off for a hot drink and lunch on a walk, no dogs allowed in the front bar only the back bar, which is fine but this only accessible via the side with steps or ramp and an extremely dangerous handrail which is not fit for purpose! Once in the back bar you then have to go to the front bar to order, not ideal to leave your dog when on your own. Decided against ordering food due to the staffs rudeness, one older lady in particular. Final note the toilets reminded me of the old outside school toilets, two cubicles and one sink with paper towels and a pedal bin that was broken, very cold and draughty. Needless to say I won't be returning in a hurry

The pub's appeal is hindered by a consistently unwelcoming experience, particularly due to the condescending behaviour of one of the lady staff members. This has made me hesitant about frequenting the establishment despite being a local resident, as I know many others feel the same way in our area. She is rude, condescending and unwelcoming. I, my friends and family will not be returning. Such a shame. It’s a shame, as with a welcoming staff and good hospitality this place would be perfect. She is simply not suited for a customer service role.

Visited here last week , i decided I needed a " Me Day " , so I drove out to the Peak District and saw this lovely place on the off-chance. I was welcomed so warmly by the Staff , I ordered a pot of tea and a toasted teacake , And to be honest , I was totally lost in the view , with the birds and the Squirrels outside . I happily spent a good hour just lost in my thoughts ❤️. When I returned to my car , I sat for a minute and felt my mental health blip lift . Place was full too ! Coffees looked amazing , so I will be trying one when I return . Great location Lovely staff
