Visited the griffin(March, Cambridgeshire) today around half 2 for lunch with family, ordered the wrap and chips and don’t get me wrong it was lovely, the price of this was ridiculous and feel like I’ve been ripped off, this meal was around £7 and the amount of chips I had, I think was unfair and won’t be visiting here anymore for food.

Short notice decision to have Sunday lunch. Really friendly and relaxed place. Great beer and enormous portions of excellent roast. Choice of 4 meat and excellent veg. Good service and atmosphere. Seating a bit limited if you are a group of 5+ so best to book if you are.

This was a big family get together for Sunday roast , just over 20 of us ! I was really pleased with the food and service . To accommodate this many people as quickly and efficiently as they did was fantastic for us , the food was lovely and more than enough , nothing was to much trouble for the staff and I couldn’t be happier ! Made our rare family get together a real pleasure ! Thank you !

We had never been to this town and entered the only open pub hoping for the best. It look pretty stanadard but once inside we had the warmest welcome, not just from the owners but all the locals. I am a vegetarian and ordered the mushroom stroganoff, they had run out of mushrooms and without second thought one of the owners was out to get some locally and it was not standard pub grab but absolutely delicious, as was all the food and puddings. We left three hours later very full and very happy at our unexpected discovery of good food and company.

Had a couple of early evening drinks in The Griffin during our time staying at the Marina. Proper local drinking establishment with nice beers on offer. Locals made us feel welcome and nice to sit near the log burner as not the warmest pub. Hardly ever saw food being served so decided not to eat here. Not the best looking pub inside...needs much TLC but you get what you expect from a good old pub!

This is a quiet friendly pub, and the locals are very welcoming, open fires with the classic pub dog sleeping nearby. old fashioned wooden beams and brasses hung around... this is like being in a time warp the last of the real pubs. The food was very nice I ordered a 12oz steak and got what looked like a 18oz the portions were rather large to say the least, I am a man who can eat but I struggled to clear my plate! seems like they have a good balance of all things I would highly recommend this place!

Loads of locals lunching when we called in for a snack - a really nice and informal atmosphere, dogs and all, among a low beamed warren of rooms. Parking is a bit tight, so if you are likely to be it's best to walk! We had good toasted sandwiches and god beer and good chat at a good price, so what's not to like?

Typical country pub with open fires and a real traditional feel. The Sunday roasts are great and good value at £8.95 each. We'll definitely be back

A very nice building with equally good interior and exterior decoration and maintenance. As soon as you enter the pub you are met with a colourful and well presented bar and restaurant. areas. A good range of beers, wines and spirits are offered and a varied menu of English and Indian dishes. I tried the Pandora chicken which was new to me and I was delighted with the quality and quantity of the food.Rapid, friendly service completed a very enjoyable experience.

On holiday and were pleased they allowed us to take dog inside. The pub is a popular locals village pub but we were made welcome and several locals came and were chatting with us so had a pleasant evening. We both opted for sirloin steaks and were pleasantly surprised as to how good the meals were. Large 12oz steaks, with lovely chips and a fresh, nicely presented salad. There were no steak knives however that said the steaks were so good they were easy to cut, with no fat and they just dissolved in your mouth.

On holiday in the area so we used Trip Advisor as usual to find a place to eat. This pub seemed satisfactory as it did food and dogs were allowed. The Sunday roast of Turkey/beef/pork was not as good as sounded. For £9 each this was not good value. The sticky toffee pud was satisfactory with lashings of custard! Overall it cost just short of £30 which I thought was expensive. Friendly pub but food needs to improve.

Food really appalling, atmosphere not very pleasant (very cliquey), some extremely rude locals, kids running around completely out of control, whole place is filthy, and not just the loos, and it's all very dark and dated. The outside area is pretty much the car park / building site x tip. We didn't stay to finish. There are much nicer places in the area, so I'd avoid this one.

Popped in for a local friendly drink. Stayed for one and left. The place is filthy, especially behind the bar. The landlord (as I discovered listening into a conversation), was as unfriendly and as unwelcoming as I've ever met in a pub landlord. Just awful!

I am a bit behind with this review. I visited whilst working in the village last summer. What a friendly place this is. Great beer and a bar full of happy customers at lunchtime a rarity these days. Enjoyed a simple lunch of ham egg and chips and was amazed at the quality and quantity of ham that was served. Too much really but better than being mean.Do visit - I am sure you will not be disappointed

My wife and I stayed for a couple of nights at Karma Farm camp site and on the first (and second) nights walked (around half an hour) to The Griffin, the young man (with the beard) behind the bar was cheerful and informative about the ales on offer and went out of his way to find out what was served with what and whether the Chili was hot or medium etc. The meals (Stroganoff for my wife and Chilli for me) were nicely cooked and of good portions, the locals were friendly and willing to engage, the second nights visit the chef was a bit late on parade more that made up for by a very decent steak and chips for us both, prices were very reasonable. A hard decision between four and five stars (maybe 4-5), well worth a visit, we shall definately go back. food good, beer good, local company could not be bettered. Thank you The Griffin

The landlady at our B&B, Sunset View, recommended the pub to us, as she had her birthday party here. The recommendation was well founded and we had a lovely meal at a very reasonable price. The cuisine is sort of International, but it's really a good selection of gastro pub food. They hold all sorts of events at the pub too and the Saturday that we went they had a live band night. We didn't stay that long, but by all accounts it was a great night. Top tip: Go early evening if you want it a bit quieter, or go later and eat in the restaurant section if you still want quiet. They also do meals during the day. This is a lovely lively pub in the great British tradition.Address is: 11 Church St, Isleham, Ely, Cambridgeshire CB7 5RX - phone:01638 780447

We came across this lovely restaurant by chance on our recent visit to Ely. What a find the food is so tasty and well cooked Tried the ackee and salt fish tartlet as a starter, something we had not had before but will again it was lovely and light. The best pit though were the main courses of jerk chicken and jerk pork. The spicyness was just right. The rice and peas was lovely as well. The fried plantain complemented the dish. The lady who runs this restaurant is so lovely, warm friendly and engaging. If I didn’t live so far away it would most definitely be a regular haunt of ours
