Food fantastic, very healthy and tasty. Beautiful unique salads. also very good for vegans. This really is a very good option for healthy eating.

Food choice was severely lacking, esp at 12.30pm for lunch. What we did choose was all meant to be full of different flavours, mostly they were bland and salads were not easy to eat with hard chunks of cabbage, etc., had jaw ache from having to chew so hard. No protein to go with their salads. No bread for their soup either. We all left hungry. The staff seemed like they couldn't cope even serving people one at a time, I'd hate to see what they'd be like when busy. This place used to be lovely 20+ yrs ago but I wouldnt even give it half a point now. Awful and won't ever go back.

My friend & I had one of our regular lunches at The Greenhouse . As usual the ambiance was calm & relaxing . There was a lovely selection of food including quiches & freshly made salads , I had my usual choice of a selection of five salads , which I enjoyed . The type of coffee used seems to have changed fairly recently & wasn't as nice in flavour as before . Despite this it's strongly recommended as a lunch venue .

I ordered two separate meals, one a month ago for 12 people and one last night for 30 people. Vanessa and Val gave the most amazing service and their food was simply beautiful. Vegan or vegetarian, and taking particular care with allergies, each and every dish was perfect and heated up beautifully. Delicious desserts, and nibbles. Really wonderful to be able to order 'home cooked' food. All our guests were really impressed with the level of catering. Thank you Val and Vanessa.

Ordered some salads from here for a party and wasn't let down by the quality and value for money. All the salads were freshly made and tasted so yummy!! We had a Mediterranean salad, curried cauliflower and apple and a tabbouleh. Really good value for money. Can't wait to have lunch here again.

Whether you are vegetarian, vegan or a meat eater, the food at the Greenhouse cafe is the best food & value in Altrincham. It’s all freshly made. They offer a variety of savoury bakes & quiches including at least one vegan bake daily. My personal favourite is the vegan spanakopita. There is always a large selection of excellent salads. Cakes are fresh tasting & moist. Value is excellent for good sized portions too. There is also a freezer showcasing their savouries & cakes to take home & store frozen until needed.

This place is literally the best to have Vegetarian food - its seriously seriously good. The service is always brilliant..but the food is just wow - get yourself there you can thank me later

I visit this cafe regularly and I think the food is amazing. I love the salads especially. Sadly I do have to agree with other reviewers about the service. It can be very slow (although to be fair sometimes that is down to indecisive customers or customers who have no awareness of others around them and the queue that’s building up behind them!) and unfortunately sometimes it’s like the customers are invisible. No warmth, friendliness or sense of urgency whatsoever. Customer service is such a key part of any business but this one seems to be missing an opportunity. Customer service can easily be improved upon and I do hope that the family take these comments onboard in a positive way. I will continue to shop here; the food is so good it compensates for the poor service!

I went here to meet a friend I hadn’t seen in a long time. The food they have on offer is quite nice but honestly the customer service was so off putting I don’t think I’ll be back again. No friendliness at all, and the staff seem like they don’t want to be there. Even the card machine is in a different room away from the till which is the strangest thing ever since most of us nowadays don’t rely on cash. When I went up a second time to get a dessert, I was ignored by three separate people. I waited for 10 minutes. There was no queue and it was not busy in the slightest. I couldn’t understand why one member of staff was in front of me and then turned around to stand in the kitchen doing absolutely nothing at all, clearly in plain sight. I’m not the kind of person who gets offended easily or enjoys badmouthing anyone, but I just felt like I had to disclose my experience. This was my second visit and I can’t say my first one was particularly positive either.

There is a good selection of dishes, but the sevice is terrible! They don's seem organised at all and we waited an age to be served. I think they will be losing customers because of it. Don't think we will be back!

We had a selection of Danish pastries, all fresh and tasty. I liked that there is a variety of vegan food options including vegan sausage sandwich.

Visited yesterday. I have been before and it was good. This time not so, the food was a bit old I think. I had the spinach mint pie which just wasn't up to their usual high standards. I hope this was just an off day.

We only just squeezed in, so popular is this place. In fact we sat at one of the two outside tables. I had a generous slice of quiche freshly arrived from the kitchen, and three separate salads to provide a filling and very flavoursome meal.

Excellent Vegetarian and vegan food - but you don't have to be veggie. My friends love it too. a mouthwatering selection of veggie food.

Not visited the Greenhouse for a number of years and after a fantastic wholesome lunch I can't for the life of me understand why . Great food and value - 5 salad sharing plate , a piece of flan each , a pot of tea for 2 and a coconut tart - £16:00 . Lovely bright interior , knowledgable staff ( they needed to be as the choice of food is large ) made the experience one that we will repeat sooner than later , well done Greenhouse.

As it was so cold outside I ordered the soup which was veg and lentil- very tasty! I also had a salad box to take out filled with lots of different very tasty homemade salads. You can choose any of the salads to fill the box. I asked for the small £3.50 box but it was quite substantial so great value for money. I also asked about gluten free dishes which they checked for me. I would definitely go back!

Es un gran lugar para comer verduras no demasiado! . . . No te decepcionará! Yo tenía 4 diferentes ensaladas que cuesta £4:50 Almuerzo!

Mi primera visita y qué gran hallazgo. Yo no soy vegetariana, pero me encantó este restaurante, las comidas y ensaladas eran fantásticos. Un poco como el Tardis cuando entras mucho más grande de lo que parece desde el exterior. El personal era encantador, me explico todas las opciones y tan amable y acogedor. Yo no vivo en la zona pero sin duda volveré cuando estoy visitando a la familia de nuevo.

Lots of lovely salads to choose from and hot dishes. Yes, the service is a little on the slow side but I have always found the staff helpful and friendly. Toilets are a bit of a letdown though.

Went today the food was good but still no warning signs on the step down to the lower level should have bright tape on it to warn people and when I went upstairs to the toilet the stairs and the bathroom floor were really dirty with an inch of dust on the stair rail

Para un restaurante vegetariano no hay suficiente variedad para veganos y el personal antipático. Sólo había un plato vegetariano que podría haber, pero las ensaladas eran muy buenas. La decoración es muy elegante, pero es disuadido por el personal y el dueño que están de mal humor. Pedimos leche de soja con nuestro té y la camarera de mala gana, dijo que volvería a encontrarla. Ella olvidamos todo y tuvimos que pedir, y no había, pero era todo con mala voluntad. Fuimos testigos de un altercado entre un cliente, que parecía ser un habitual, y el propietario. El cliente señalaron una tarta que quería un trocito de pero le dijo la señora que sirve dijo que no sería permitido para servir como el antiguo tenía que ser utilizada primero. El cliente amablemente señaló que el nuevo uno tenía más de salsa. La camarera llamó al dueño de la cocina y ella me dijo que el cliente eran idénticos. El cliente indicó que el antiguo tenía mucho menos salsa. El propietario no se movió y dijo platos había sido hecho al mismo tiempo. (Si este era verdad no había motivo para no dar al cliente lo que quería el cliente salíamos, y no culpo a ella. Nunca hemos visto algo así. Nosotros no vamos a volver!

Have been eating here for years. Standard of food, especially salads is always good. What lets it down is the incredibly slow service, sometimes miserable staff and lack of gluten free dishes.I'm gluten free and although I have asked on one or more occasion for gluten free dishes, they say that people won't eat them. I've been to cafes of a similar size in other parts of the country and had delicious gluten free quiches, cakes and desserts. You absolutely can't tell the difference. As one of the other reviewers has already said, this cafe could really stand out if the staff and service improved and if they catered for gluten free diets.

Only repeating what has been said before this restaurant should have cooks and servers who are the picture of health given the quality of the food they must eat! I've been in a few times and enjoyed the food but often have to wait for someone to notice I am waiting to be served while they are busy in the kitchen. The interesting recipes are not described in a way which would enthuse anyone but the most committed veggies. There does not appear to be a sense of urgency which is required when people are hurried at in a lunch break. And really a smile DOES go such a long way even in the absence of perfection. In contrast in the new 'Fresh to Death' in Altrincham you get enthusiasm and vibrancy in a modern fresh atmosphere even though to my mind the food is less interesting there than in The Greenhouse on a good day. Please keep going and up your game Greenhouse as you are really needed in the area and very much appreciated by some regulars! P.S. Some response to some of these reviews would also demonstrate that you care what people think about you and are striving to improve.

7 of us ladies went for lunch today and it was amazing. Really reasonable prices and so many different options to choose from at very reasonable prices . The only negative I would say is that they need more staff as they have to serve in the health food shop as well and at one stage only one staff serving

To eat here you need to have time and appreciate the food - which is excellent. The staff are wonderfully helpful and will talk to anyone and everyone - which is a great part of the experience. You're not rushed - no one is rushed. You're simply allowed to enjoy your time, taking as long as you want.

The eating public asked for a notice board/ description and a sign with costs and it's appeared, big improvement! ! Food excellent as ever keep up the good work.

Have been visiting this excellent place for some time and last night attended a business event there. The quality and variety of food served was excellent as always and presented extremely well. Great hospitality.

I come often to this restaurant and early diners can avoid the queues that others complain about. Food is great, changes daily, and very reasonably priced. The Town of Altrincham is lucky to have it, so don't complain about the queues its well worth waiting for and the puds are to die for!!

I only went in for a take away coffee to be "greeted" by a woman who couldn't find the lids for the take away coffee cups. This is absolutely fine, I would have stayed and sat in with a coffee if she wasn't so rude! The food looked good i was tempted to stay and have some but this woman was awful I didn't want to give them my money! Considering it was lunch time it wasn't busy at all...can't help but think why! A smile and some manners goes a long way!

Went for lunch with friends - got there early before the "Rush" therefore service better than usual - wish they would put a description on each dish to save staff having to describe every dish to every customer - therefore slowing the queue and therefore service !!! Am sure the staff must get fed up of repeating themselves SIMPLES!!!! The food as per usual just gorgeous thats why we keep coming back - the service does rather let the place down very badly at times - certain staff can be quite abrupt at times as mentioned in other reviews!

Great to have somewhere local that offers fresh, (relatively) healthy vege food that doesn't scrimp on taste or only appeal to strict vege's. My husband isn't vege and loves the food from here as well. There's a great mix of salads, more substantial main-type dishes and also cakes/pastries. I like the fact that the food on offer changes daily.It can get very busy at peak times and I think they'd benefit from a bit more structure over who (staff) does what/get extra staff at these times as it can be chaotic. Never had anything other than delicious offerings - yummy.

Have been going to this vegetarian restaurant for years and just love and now even more with new decor. Lovely thick soup for cold days and unusual hot dishes. For summer I like quiche, especially asparagus one and the very generous eclectic mix of salads which you can also have as a takeaway. My favourites include quinoa, tabbouleh, grated carrot nuts and cheese, med veg, potatoes in various dressings etc.etcSome nice homemade cakes too if you've room. Service can be a bit quirky but you get used to it!

I like the food, although it's off putting when your stood there and flies are on the food! The staff aren't exactly friendly and some are quite abrupt! Sylvia however is lovely.

The food at Greenhouse is excellent with a massive selection of nutritious salads with mains, and the sweets are just as appetising. I have to agree with a previous customer - the service is so slow.I have now been a few times and its the very same experience. I have sometimes been waiting 15 minutes when its seems there is no one else waiting.Again a simple explanation on a board of how 'things work' would be a god send instead of the waitress having to explain to each customer.

I enjoyed the food far more than I feared. The outside of the restaurant (I think 'cafe' is a better word) disguises the fact that inside the place is far nicer being both modern and comfortable.The food was of a good quality and I thank you for that. What let this place down was the service. There was little sense of urgency or interest. A smile would have been nice too. For this reason I'm only going to give you a three star. It would have also been nicer if you could have got off your backside and given me my change while I'm at it. Of if you had come out and asked me if everything was okay. This is the sort of place I could return time and time again spending a decent amount each time but I don't believe on this single experience I will.

Have been here for lunch a few times now and the food is always lovely. Called for lunch yesterday and had the asparagus quiche which was to die for!! Lovely thin pastry and soft, tasty filling. Love all the salads - each one has different flavours and none of them overpower each other. Yes, the service could be better but this doesn't detract from the quality of the food. Could quite happily eat there every day!!

I come to this restaurant for absolutely fab home cooked health food which never fails to hit the spot - so - it is with regret I have to complain about the appalling service ! It is soo slow! If each dish was marked up as to what is is then it would not have to be explained to every individual customer! There was a rather long queue which just gets bigger as each dish is explained and then served and then heated and then drinks - there is just no organisation behind the counter - I have seen [people walk out because I guess if you only have an hour for lunch you aint got time to wait! Just needs to be more organised behind the counter - am sure profits would soar ! I person serving, one in the back and one doing drinks and taking money! It is such a shame the service lets the place down- I do keep going back - because the food is soo fab but PLEASE sort out the slow and inefficient service which lets you down - recent refurb is lovely too all the more reason to up the service level!!!!

The Greenhouse looks and feels so much netter since its refurb and the food is just as good as ever; at about £10/head for a main, 5 salads and a drink it is great value amidst the mediocrity of the surrounding chain restaurants. However, the school dinner queue experience and wait for, when you get it individualised, service is almost antediluvian. I know Greenhouse doesn't provide fast food but this was just too slow!

Visited today and was pleasantly surprised to see it had been freshly decorated and it looks so much cleaner and fresher. The food as always was great and really colourful and tasty.It's a shame they don't do soya milk because I think they are missing a trick with the number of vegetarians/vegans it attracts but on the whole really fab :)

Very disappointed by the lack of vegan items on the menu. All the salads covered in French dressing. The woman serving didn't seem to know what food was what

Amazing choices on menus with fabulous service and peaceful surroundings. Health food shop adjacent has everything you want with great advice.

As my mum and I are both vegetarians we decided to search out one of few veggie cafés for our lunch! The only sign with the cafe name on was on the window rather than above the window and therefore we actually walked past it once! Only after finding instructions did we stumble across it!Decor was lovely, toilets nice, presentation etc very good.We got into a queue and saw people picking all sorts of salads and flans etc, however it was only after a few people had been served and we started to discuss what we were having that we realised there was no price list or menu or any explanation to how the cafe worked....The queue for food took forever, to me they would be better with one serving food, one doing drinks and one taking payment rather than 3 members of staff falling over each other to do it all for each person.The lady who served us was lovely and when we asked how it worked she did explain well, however this only held the queue up further...a simple black board or menu would be great.I actually picked a baked potato and salad as I saw someone else get it (otherwise I would have no idea they even did baked potatoes) and my mum had the 5 salad taster plate, both were very nice. Price was reasonable (£16 ish I think for 2 lunches with pots of tea) Overall, nice atmosphere, staff seemed friendly and nice fresh food, I just think the ordering system could be so much simpler resulting in shorter queues!

We called in for lunch on 18th November and what a lovely surprise. Delicious food and a huge selection of salads to choose from. Definitely one to come back to and would recommend a visit to anybody.

We "re-discovered" the Greenhouse a few months ago & now go in for lunch at least once a week.OK, it might not be the fastest service, but we've never found it slow enough to be an issue & the food is always fantastic & great value. The staff are always really friendly too - I guess they must have changed or learn't following previous poor reviews. In addition, the restaurant was recently completely refurbished & is lovely, modern, light & airy.Don't be put off by old reviews, give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

I chose the selection of 5 salads for around £5 and oh my they were all amazing! Luckily I shared this and a gorgeous flan with my mother as the portions were huge and such amazing value! Can't believe I ah ent found this place sooner, we always visit the health food centre next door/conjoined and have been meaning to visit the restaurant! It will definitely be becoming a regular! Finally some tasty and healthy food at fab prices, a must lunch visit!

The Greenhouse has been shut for full refurbishment WOW what a change, completely new decor and look but with the same amazing freshly cooked food, even the upstairs toilets have been fully refurbished to a very high standard. We will definitely going back.

I pop in on a regular basis to get my £10 take away selection of freshly grated vegetables. Lovely selection, full f goodness. I often buy it and serve it to friends as a starter or to accompany BBQ. These ladies work very hard to deliver excellent value for money. And actually, I will be there in about 30 minutes!!

I visited here with a work colleague last Thursday for lunch. As I have visited here before, I knew the salads were very good.I was served by a young-ish blonde lady, who I think cooks a lot of the food and she was very pleasant. She took time to explain what all the dishes were, without us asking.I noticed the ladies, who a lot of the complaints on here are usually about, were in the kitchen (might be the best place for them, rather than front of house!)Please don't be put off my the bad reviews, this really is worth a visit as the food is always fantastic.Decor could do with a bit of a spruce up though :)

Had read reviews before going so rather apprehensive. Service was far better than described and didn't have to queue for more than a couple of minutes. Very good selection of dishes bearing in mind that this is a fairly small establishment. Adverises "5 taster dishes" but doesn't say that this is salads only. Can't "taste" anything from the appetising cooked dishes. This needs to be made clear before customer starts choosing.Wish I had gone for a main meal rather than the "5 taster dishes" - basically rather tired salads. Potatoes had the sour taste of having been cooked at least the day before. The baked pancakes with ricotta looked good but I had already committed to the taster menu. Overall, a pleasant meal with pleasant staff.

I've visited this cafe before and wanted somewhere special to take my Mother-in-Law, and a veggie place is special as they're hard to find. It's quite a drive but that's ok for somewhere special. I was so cross with the rudeness of the waitress, I was so embarrassed by the waitress' treatment of my MIL. I won't be going back and I will tell people about our bad experience.The waitress' comments included: "we don't serve it in bits you know", "you've got your number wrong", to other customers "she's put the number in wrong", to my MIL "you've put the number in wrong again".Waitress - my MIL entered the pin code into the card machine correctly three times, you didn't know which button to press next and got it wrong twice. My MIL, a lady in her 80's, doesn't eat huge portions and it's ok to say "that's enough thank you", next time a customer says that do not put another four spoonfuls of food on the plate. There were other unpleasant comments that made us feel very unwelcome and upset. We should have left after the very first comment. I'd reserved a table because it's usually busy. We arrived on time. The waitress said in reply to me saying who we were and that we'd booked, "well you weren't here, so someone removed the reserved sign and sat down". I was astounded, but, smoothing over this, I replied that it was ok as there were lots of empty tables. Maybe there's empty tables because you, waitress, are so very rude.We had coffee and pudding at another cafe, we were made to feel very welcome, we'll go back there.

Visted here with some friends who live locally the food was great but the woman who served us was awful.. Very moody and could not be bothered will not be returning..

Yes, the service is terrible. Painfully slow and unfriendly server. I was frustrated when being served! Arriving just before 1pm there were some items sold out and only 2 flans, some frittata and stuffed potatoes left. I opted for potato which was just served cold and was given a half. This came with no salad so looked quite sad! I paid extra for salad and a bread roll but was still hungry and couldn't be bothered waiting for dessert. The salad was quite nice but could have been included as part of my meal. The potato was fairly bland. My friend had the soup which she found nice. I felt uncomfortable with the service and have never been anywhere vegetarian with such limited options. The cafe was also stifling hot

There was more staff than diners but we were still left waiting at the buffet for 10 mins, the lady in front gave up and walked out! Food when we finally got it was excellent. Keep the cook and get new front of house staff

Not one to revel in submitting bad reviews, I am writing this in the hope the owners may take some notice and make the changes required to make the greenhouse one of my usual lunch spots. The food here is very good. My wife is a vegetarian and although I am a carnivore I do enjoy good veggie food and this is what is served up at the greenhouse. Fine dining it isn't nor does it pretend to be but the food is always wholesome and the special salad plates are lovely. Today however my wife and I reached a melting point and walked out of the cafe in pure frustration. The service is always slow at best - unless you happen to be the first in - but today it was diabolical. It is quite clear providing good customer service is not even on the radar at the greenhouse. This really is a shame because with an enthusiastic and customer orientated person behind the counter, the greenhouse could be massively improved. Until then, like other frustrated reviewers before us, we will be giving the greenhouse a wide berth which is a shame as we would love to support this place.

The last time I came here was over 20 years ago so I was amazed to find that nothing had changed, in a good way! This is still the most fantastic vegetarian food I have ever tasted. I will try not to leave it another 20 years before my return.

This has to be the worst vegetarian cafe I've ever been to and one which unfortunately reinforces the old stereotypes that us veggies have no standards or taste and just want a pile of food. Like the experience of other reviewers here, I found the staff serving were totally uninterested and I can see how some make take it as rudeness, this is clearly not a one-off "having a bad day" problem. The food which was on display looked less than appetising (looked like it had been recooked badly and past it). I went for the pasta bake but it was served cold in the middle and the selection of side salads I ordered were all piled up on top of each other in a single bowl! In general the whole atmosphere of the place looked and felt drab, old, depressing and past it.I left asking myself if these people really want to run a cafe and maybe they should too.

I'm afraid I can't comment on the food (although it did look delicious) because we walked out before we could try any of it. Service was TERRIBLE! Queued for ages, one person serving, clearing tables, taking food out etc. customers pushing in to pay and them allowing it. She might have been having a bad day but her attitude stunk as well. We just walked out - shame we didn't have chance to try the food.

I've lived on the doorstep of this place for 3 years and today was my very first visit. What delicious food. Wide variety of hot dishes and excellent selection of salads. Cakes look lovely although we didn't try any. Coffee was good. Lovely young girls serving - not pretentious, nice relaxed atmosphere without being over the top. Appears to be home cooked style food and family run. Delightful place, and I'll be going back to try those salads again. Could do with a little spruce up inside and perhaps some more windows to brighten the place up.

Been going here for years (even in The Nutcracker days) and always great tasting salads with jacket potato or quiche or just on their own. Found the service A1 and never rude. Try the raspberry bread and butter pudding devine!

We visited end August, to be met by a man with his feet up on a table who was not very pleasant who asked us what we wanted he still did not move we decided to go up the road to the Oxford Road Cafe what a delight lovely people and lovely food

Have visited a couple of times over the last few weeks while visiting with my daughter who lives nearby. I have been impressed with the food. I eat a high raw diet & it is rare to find salads that have actually got lots of uncooked ingredients - even in other vegetarian cafes - so it's great that here the salads are fresh & alive. All the food looks attractive & tasty. The space is pleasant & welcoming. Yes the service can be slow but they offered to blend some soup for the baby without us even asking - very kind & thoughtful. And the desserts & cakes are good (although like most vegetarian/organic cafes don't use wholefoods). Try a raspberry tart!

Queueing up with a tray is a little slow but the food is mostly enjoyable in this no-frills vegetarian cafe on the edge of Altrincham. The food is wholesome rather than gourmet & some salads are much better than others. Quiches are usually good. The menu doesn't vary a great deal. The Greenhouse do offer a catering service & I have separately enjoyed a variety of tasty salads & buffet dishes supplied by them.

Tasty fresh veggie food (including coffee and cake) and somewhere you can sit and relax whilst you read the paper. Service can be a bit slow and some of the ladies can be a bit unsmiling. It hasn't changed much in all the years I have been visiting. If it ain't broke, I guess you don't need to fix it, but with a couple of minor tweaks, it could be a star in amongst a lot of mediocre eateries in Altrincham.

The salad options here are very good and quiches always really tasty. My husband is a confirmed eater of meat and even he enjoys a meal in here. Not for those in a hurry, service ranges from slow to impossible but if you have the time you are sure to get an excellent meal

Very nice vegetarian food but slow and unsmiling service - not expecting enforced jollity, just reasonably friendly would be nice.

Went here with my mother for lunch.Had to wait to be served with no apology. We had to ask for our coffees. Cannot fault the food although a bit pricey. Staff could smile more.
