The Best carvery ever. Went on a Sunday. The smell of roast dinner cooking was enough to entice me. This is a very popular carvery so quite a queue but moved fast. Food was exquisite. So much choice. I had some of everything. Loved it. Would be wise to book for a Sunday but this fabulous carvery is on every day. 10/10 for the chef staff and atmosphere.

Visited on Sunday 6 October to celebrate my mums birthday and I can’t recommend it enough! Fabulous food - we all had the carvery and every one of our party of 14 commented on how delicious it was; amazing and attentive staff - everyone was so friendly and helpful and went over and above to make it a special occasion and excellent value for money. It was very busy so booking is essential but that’s because it’s so good. Thanks to all the staff at The Grapes.

One of the best carvery's around. All of the vegetables were fresh, and none were overcooked. The meat was tender and not dried out. A very good selection of potatoes and vegetables to choose from and the roast potatoes were perfect .Even the gravy was just right. Plenty of sauces to choose from, too. A really delicious and tasty roast meal. No wonder the place was busy. Have to say a big well done to the chef and the people in the kitchen who definitely know how to do a good carvery And of course, the floor staff, who were very polite and full of smiles.

Brilliant staff, excellent food and drink

Went for the first time today with the wife, did not know what to expect as we only saw this online, was very pleasantly surprised. Was greeted by a very polite lady who showed us to our table. As for the food OMG it was delicious, I had the crispy chicken and my wife had the large fish and chips (2 pieces of fish) the portions were that big my wife gave me half of hers. The food tasted absolutely fantastic. Will definitely be coming back.

Carvery was stunning, couldn’t fault it, chef was friendly and will definitely go back for that, but we ordered a burger and fries from the menu also and honestly, it was really bad, didn’t look or taste very good and my daughter left it after a bite and had a couple of fries, burger was frozen and bun was stale, such a shame and spoilt it for us because she didn’t enjoy her food, staff were ok, lots of girls standing around chatting when I went to place my order which was uncomfortable and front desk cashier only talked to us to say, I need the table back in 2 hours. My 1 star was for pub menu food but the carvery food was 5 star

Just visited the grapes for carvery not the first time we have been but must say it's always a beautiful hot carvery but could not believe how busy they were & how fantastic the staff cope. Just felt the need to acknowledge what a great pub & staff excellent.

The last couple of times we have been, we have had the carver. Everything was very nice. Myself I think the small is enough. Staff is also nice and friendly. We only had soft drinks as driving.

Loved the food had the chick n mix but was stuffed as it has large, filling portions for decent prices will be returning

Recently had two visits in one week here, both absolutely fantastic and faultless, been coming here now for getting on 4 years. Everything was perfect, the staff are so welcoming and helpful. I often take my elderly mum and they are so lovely to her. They really make her feel special. The food is always amazing. Never had a bad meal here. Would highly recommend.

My dad and I eat here every week. The food is unfailingly excellent and I really don’t think you could beat the carvery 🤤. The atmosphere is lovely, no loud music to interrupt our conversation. There’s always a lovely buzz. The staff are great, both behind the bar and serving food. We will be regulars for a long time to come.

Today our Breast Cancer charity Breast Mates had a wonderful afternoon at The Grapes thanks to Julie and her team. We needed a place that could cater for 45 members and volunteers to share a special afternoon to celebrate the life of a beloved young member and friend, Gemma ❤️ It was Gemma's wish that we'd all get together in the way she loved for food, drink and ofcourse cake. We are so happy that we chose The Grapes as the food was delicious, we were all seated in one area and nothing was too much for Julie and her team. Gemma would have loved it. Thank you 😊

Great pub, great atmosphere really good value for money, Julie and the team so welcoming, we went on Sunday with the whole family, to join my mum and dad who go every Sunday. Couldn’t fault the service at all and will be returning.

Fabulous time at The Grapes for an impromptu tea. Pre booked a table as it does get very busy. Ordering is easy at the bar. Food ordered and it came within minutes, queue for the carvery moved fast. Absolutely delicious food, piping hot and wholesome. Whole trip was done and dusted within 40 minutes, no waiting around.

We visit every weekend and Emma always accommodates The team are friendly and helpful and the carvery is always fresh and delicious.

Best roasts ever, we go every Sunday for the carvery. All the staff are friendly and very helpful. If we can’t get out the take away carvery is a lifesaver.

Easy to park with a front and back terrace to enjoy the good weather on a sunny day. Went for a family Birthday and all the food especially the Carvery were amazing, really recommended even just for a beer or something to share

Me & my friend visited yesterday afternoon we both had carvery and what can I say it was absolutely delicious, Fresh & Hot the beef dripping roasties where to die for. The staff where friendly and helpful We definitely recommend and will recommend to our family and friends.

Visited Sunday 28 July 2024 for a family tea. I had the carvery which was the best I’ve ever tasted from mine and my mum’s, it was just delicious. The mash was divine, turkey & beef cooked to perfection, roasters delicious, stuffing & Yorkshire pudding yummy and the legendary gravy did not disappoint. The place was packed and so was the car park, I just managed to get the 1 last parking spot. I will really look forward to another visit soon.

Food was lovely but an over enthusiastic member of the team came running after one of our party saying she had underpaid for drinks (which she hadn't) we also had a child with us who was upset and then came over telling us we had 30 mins to vacate the table (which I totally understand) felt totally unwelcome won't be going again

As a drinking bar it’s mad one serving only one side of bar used waiting for people to sort food orders. To many staff not serving behind bar. Not a bar more like a cafe Regards John

Went for the first time for my grandson birthday with friends i phone up to see if I have book they said no just walk in so we did we was looking for a nice table then some one come up to us and sat us down on a small square table were we didn't have much room I don't no why as the place was empty and no one was sitting on the big tables and it was still empty when we left the barn staff wasn't friendly or had a smile for you didn't even say hi it was what you're table numbers and what you're order so sorry I won't be going back and I wouldn't recommend it to no one

Amazing roast dinner ! Turned up without a reservation just hoping they could fit us in with it being a Sunday and Father’s Day ! I wasn’t hopeful.. but the lovely friendly helpful staff had a look and said she could spare a table for over an hour! Was very grateful and very we had a fabulous carvery which is always 5 star ! The pub has a good atmosphere., although it was a little busy we were not waiting too long. All the staff are very friendly, would definitely recommend!

Well as someone who will travel for a decent carvery. A friend and I visited The Grapes Carvery and Pub St Helens today, wow what can I say but the carvery was the best around. The roast potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, carrots were chunky but soft and flavoursome, parsnips and broccoli were a pleasant sight as you don't usually get these, gravy was lovely, service with a smile and friendly, a relaxing atmosphere and rushed...will definitely be back

First experience. Tables too close together chairs back to back Meals from menu nice and hot. Staff quite pleasant. Went to the bar at 9.15pm told it was last orders I said really !! it states open until 11pm on website. Was told ‘ I know but it goes quiet after food that’s what we’re really here for ‘there was around 25 /30 still in pub drank our drinks and left 9.40 as obvious staff were wanting to go.

The carvery has a choice of three meats, beef, gammon and turkey, and a nice variety of vegetables to go with it. The rest of the menu is all decent food, you really can't go wrong here. The staff are all responsive and friendly, but there can be a queue at the bar on Sundays because they're so busy. This is easily classed as highly recommended, but try to avoid going on a Sunday because it's beserk - you definitely need to book a table to stand a chance of eating in - although you can still pay for a carvery and take it home with you ! Update 23/05/24: got two carveries and a mini mixed grill. The carveries were apparently the best my wife had had for a while with everything cooked just the way she liked, the roasties were lovely and crisp, and the veg was perfectly soft, not the 'I need a hacksaw for this al-dente' some places excel at. The mini mixed grill was fantastic, the chicken was very moist and soft, and with peppercorn sauce on top (costs extra) was gorgeous.

I would have given food 5 stars if had not been for the horrible Yorkshire pudding with my carvery it was inedible due to it being a dried out crumbly mess as for the rest of the food it was delicious

Our first time here. Staff welcomed us, told us where to sit, but never told us how to order. It's a Green King pub, so check to see if your bank does cashback when using your card (it may need activating), and if you have a Blue Light card, you can also use that. We ordered at the bar, no waiting to be served even though it was fairly busy. Food we ordered, large mixed grill, sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, macaroni cheese with chicken, bacon and bbq sauce. The steak was ok, looked pan-fried rather than griddled. Peppercorn sauce just didn't taste right, like the cream had split. Onion rings are from chopped onion and shaped into rings. These got passed to my daughter as I do prefer a real beer batter onion ring rather than mush. We will come back for the carvery as it did look quite nice.

I always praise the grapes carvery but unfortunately the carvery I had today was burnt roast potatoes burnt sprouts dry cauliflower cheese this is the second visit I've been disappointed i don't think there will be another visit sorry

Our favourite 'go to' whether it is just for tea or a birthday. Even when we haven't booked in advance, Julie and the team always try to fit us in and generally do. Great food whether you go for carvery or off the main menu, reasonably priced, and looked after by all the staff from start to finish.

adequate food ...needed to get a refund on one item. Attended on a bank holiday and tables available so not overly busy. But food delivery was just plonked on table with no effort by staff to br 'welcoming'. 😕

First time in the area. The Grapes pub looked like a nice place to stop on the way back to my digs. I wasn’t disappointed! Ordered the ultimate mixed grill and it was spot on! Service was excellent and very friendly. I’ll be back there very soon with work colleagues to sample some more delights from the menu.

Serve from start to finish was fab steak was delicious and requested fine chopped salad also got a takeaway pie and mash which was still hot when i got home place very friendly and clean think I will have carvery next time

I come here regularly with my friends and with family. The carvery is such good value and is well worth trying. The food I've had from the menu has always been top rate. Sometimes, the menu changes and that favourite dessert disappears, but I usually find a new one.

The carvery at this pub is to die for. Consistently delicious ham and beef, gorgeous gravy and the best roast potatoes and parsnips you could ask for. Staff are always lovely too. Really puts other chain pubs carverys to shame. Will be bringing my family from New york soon to enjoy a good roast dinner. Keep up the great work 😊 and don't change the gravy lol😋

We visited the Grapes on Tuesday 19th March for our Daughters 16th Birthday. The service was faultless from start to finish and the food was perfect as well as very reasonably priced. I also have a friend who recently lost her mum and held a funeral reception here. She highly recommended it and experienced the same professional service as we did. Thanks to all the team at The Grapes for a lovely visit!!
