Went in for Breakfast asked if one breakfast could have scrambled egg ? Sorry we don’t do scrambled egg. Two people in cafe Staff sat down. Walked out. Should have read reviews 3 stars. LAZY STAFF. Told lots of friends they all think it’s a Joke. Obviously too complex to cook.

We ordered two cheeseburgers, one dish of chips and two coffees. The Food arrived quickly. The burgers were very nice, they came with lots of lettuce, tomato and cucumber. Staff very friendly. If you want to use the toilets you have to ask a staff member to unlock the gate then go up stairs.

This is a little gem of a cafe! Excellent home-cooked food, large portions and the friendliest staff around. Highly recommended.

Zero points for every aspect. Vile food, rude grubby owners . Decor which, in its day was really nice and clean..is now ready for the bonfire. along with the business. Go to poppins instead . very nice there .

Really poor customer service, made me wait for 10 mins while the check out lady was chatting to another customer. Brought a bowl of chips which I thought was £2.75 on the menu but charged £3.50 instead!?! Should update Ur price menu. Very over priced. Obviously times are hard at the moment with prices going up I brought my own drink from another shop thinking I have already brought a bowl of chips I will have my drink with it. The lady was rude and told me I wasn't allowed to drink a can of energy drink in the cafe? Made me feel like I was in primary school. Place feels stale. The radio is really annoying, should have some better taste of music for the background or place it somewhere where's it's not banging into my ear.

Whatever the family dynamic, it is a very strange one. Unpleasant attitude, disgusting food, cheap tasting but costs a fortune. Every time i’ve visited this establishment ive been greeted with what feels like passive aggression? that’s not all, i’ve seen the abnormal chef stand outside and smoke a cig, every time without fail and it’s comical to see others posting on here sharing the same experience. It really doesn’t scream cleanliness, does it? but i’m not convinced that’s the image they’re going for anyway, it seems there’s probably a combined amount of very low IQ bouncing around the employees, i would 100% recommend AVOIDING

Visited with my son today. £18 for two traditional breakfast (smallest fry up with one of each thing and two hash browns), with extra fried bread, a mug of tea and a child’s Pepsi. I assume they charge for the condiments as well. Well over priced and poorly cooked with the cheapest ingredients. The joke most definitely was on me. What I had hoped would be a nice experience was one where I didn’t eat most of my breakfast. Neither did my son and I left feeling sick. The sausages have so much gristle and fat content I couldn’t eat it after the first bite. The bacon barely cooked and yet the fried bread was drenched. Cheap beans, cheap hash browns and thin white toast. I would have saved myself £18 and cooked a better breakfast every day of the week.

Whilst ordering it was clear this was a mother/daughter operation. Whilst the jokes between them were awful, I had reasonable expectations for the breakfast, after all, the cafe is situated in a large premises in the centre of the town. What followed was terrible, £12 for a ‘mega’ breakfast and a small cup of tea. 2 poorly cooked eggs, 2 almost raw slices of thin bacon, 1 deep fried sausage(around 2p worth) 2 hash browns, beans, 2 wafer thin slices of toast, and 2 slices of fried bread, if I’d paid £6, I would’ve given it 3 stars. Just shows that it’s worth spending a few minutes reading Tripadvisor reviews before entering somewhere, as this place is as bad as the reviews.

Disgusting food and disgusting attitude from staff. Hair in the breakfast. Burger cold and raw. Bun stale and fell apart. Staff arguemntative and aggressive when we tried to address this. Unfortunately had to give one star.

We had a Tuna salad and a cheese and ham salad and oh boy it was big but it was absolutely lovely and worth the money aswel. But unfortunately it beaten the both of us. But because the portions are big we will definitely return in the near future. It was absolutely yummy 😋 Yummy

Greeted with do you won’t the special as I was giving my order and it went down hill from there as I was not listened to and then one item not put on the order that I had to reorder when 3 of us got our food leaving one 14 old without hers Behind the counter the staff were all morning about how knackered they were? As they where cooking my order I then watched the cook go across the road and lit up a cigarette in full view of us how appealing is that? The food was then served when he got back in And quite frankly the quality was appalling and non-appetising I’m a trucker and have had better service in a lay-by

Good food and quick but they could do with learning some skills in dealing with customers. We sat close to the counter and the lady at the counter was so short with their paying customers I really thought she didn't want to be there.!

Ask for a toasted sandwich and got 2 pieces of toast with margarine and what I can only describe as a lump of tasteless cheap so called cheese Worse food I have ever tasted If you can’t do toasted sandwiches say so I ask and you said you could won’t be going back

My daughter and I went to the this cafe today , we have been a few times before and really liked it. Unfortunately the lady serving was extremely loud and rude to the customers including us. My daughter is very anxious and did not like it at all. The food arrived cold and not very appealing. I'm afraid we won't be returning.

A fantastically, huge breakfast for 2. Served fast with builders coffee and a smile! Sometimes only a fry-up will do and this is just the place if you are hungry

This is a cheap and (very) cheerful greasy Joe type establishment so you know what to expect. Was quite full when I came in for a late breakfast so there must be plenty more like me just wanting something to fill the hole.

Nice friendly welcome, very reasonable prices, lots of choice, big portions, freshly cooked. A bit warm at the front of the cafe but much more spacious and cool to the rear.

My father is a regular customer. The staff certainly look after him and are always friendly . Portions are very generous. Good value for money. I enjoy coming here when im around also. Really good place for becoming a regular. Glad for my father that it is open again after lockdown

Dropped in with small child today for the first time. Very wet day. Couldn't get a warmer welcome anywhere. Really understood the needs of a small child, happy to provide plastic cup & small jug with milk in it for child to pour her own milk. Good coffee. We sat in the window, chatted to neighbours and staff who came over to check everything OK. Other clients happy to be part of easy going atmosphere. Thank you.

Staff where rude and unprofessional, shouting to each other across the cafe, staff where making some not very nice comments about another staff member who was on maternity leave in front of customers! Left the back door open so we was freezing cold. Couldn’t eat the breakfast as it was so foul.

I'd visited the Gorge a couple of years ago and as a good experience decided to return with my grandson for breakfast last Saturday morning. Well what a difference. Wasn't busy which surprised me although the family of the owner were there having breakfast about 6 of them and how loud. My husband walked out and I guess the other customers did too as we were the only one's left which for 10am on a Saturday morning should of been packed. The food wasn't good my husband's egg's were hard and the beans looked as if they had been on the plate all night. They weren't busy so ordering breakfast should be plated up fresh. Well never again and note to the owner don't invite your family to your work place.

I was interested in visiting this place in the future so I stood on the step outside the cafe to take pictures of the menu. This was important because my mother is disabled and could not get up the step to view the menu. As I was so doing, the woman who works there came out and asked me why I was taking pictures of the menu. As I was not actually in the cafe but outside I am not sure why she was taking issue with this. We explained that my mother was disabled. We were really put off coming in by this lady's behaviour so we left and will never return.

Stopped for lunch while shopping in Dorchester on our way home from holiday. Sandwich was lovely, very fresh and loads of filling with a big salad alongside. Staff were friendly. Loads of seating. Café was very clean.

If you want volume and you don't care about the quality of the food and you like service without a smile this is the place for you.

A good place to go if you like the more traditional ‘greasy spoon’ cafe. The food is always average to good with exceeding sized portions. A great shame the owner of the cafe does not treat her staff with more respect. She spends 75% of her time publicly humiliating and shouting at her staff who deserve more respect. However with that said I will visit again!

This is a step back to the cafes of my youth; unpretentious, basic, filling. It kinda reminds me of the truckers' caff my grandpa ran in Cornwall, but it's much cleaner!

We've been having a meet up with our friends here every few weeks throughout the Autumn & Winter months. You can always be sure of a friendly welcome here & excellent, great value food whatever you choose. The best scrambled eggs on toast ever!

Glad l only went in for a coffee cos l wouldn't want to eat in there, the coffee was not nice, more like coloured water really. Decor very tired, smells greasy in there. The staff could do with a personality transplant. They never said morning or hello, just stood there waiting for you to order. Would never go in there again

Called in for lunch yesterday. Staff are really good fun and enjoy a banter. Our meals were served fast, super hot and freshly cooked. Mammoth portions which neither of us could finish. They do a daily special of traditional fare. Yesterday’s was steak pie and it looked delicious.

Food horrible, always have known this place for years since I was born and always use to go In here but as I’ve got older it’s got worse. The staff Jsut look dirty and messy, never looks clean in there the staff are rude never would recommend this place.

When in Dorchester we always come in here, we cannot stay away. Absolutely love the steak pie - it is home made and arrives in a dish with a lovely puff pastry top and the steak is succulent with lots of gravy - comes with chips and peas or you can change to baked beans - love it! Hubby has his usual fry up.

We only went in for a cuppa mid morning it was very busy with lots of people eating late breakfasts. The tea was good and we were served quite quickly, there was a queue all the time we were in there but the friendly staff seemed very efficient and everyone served in a reasonable time.

Had a cracking omelette and chips. The portions were huge and I found the staff friendly and helpful

Okay. This place is like an old skool truckers cafe nestled in the centre of the county town. It’s very dated, smells very oily and feels very tired. Three of us went for breakfast while in the area and even though we all left full up, I wouldn’t go back. Really struggled to swallow the fried bread it was that oily. But, like I said, it’s an old skool greasy spoon cafe, and it did fill a hole. Portions sizes are generous but the quality of ingredients isn’t great.

Worst, and rudest place I've EVER been too, this place should not deserve to be open. I have Coeliacs went in asked for an omelette got told "can't you see I'm busy I'm only doing burgers and breakfast!" So explained by condition got a shrug of the shoulders. How hard is an omelette it does say in big letters on the menu. Can't see how these people get or keep jobs. Please close this place down and get something there that deserves a prime spot. Also your place looks likes it from the 70's and also your attitudes!

Visited here while out shopping in Dorchester. There is a comprehensive menu and also special of the day. We had Shepard's pie with, four other veg and a jug of gravy. Wow we didn't have to wait long the food was hot and plentiful. The cafe is quite big but service was great. Would definitely visit again if in the area.

We stopped here for lunch. I was starving. The service was painfully slow and when they brought my fiances food, there was no sign of mine, but that didn't seem to concern our server. So waited 20 minutes, by which time the other half had finished his dinner, so off he went to find mine. Chaos in the kitchen, a off hand sort of apology, 5 minutes go by and the server walked up to our table, plate in hand, and just dumped it on the table. I couldn't eat it. They were so rude. Never going back. Awful place.

Visited thinking we would get a decent breakfast sandwich as their main dishes advertised are all day breakfast options. We ordered two bacon sandwiches and two teas. We didn’t have to wait too long. The bacon was awful, fatty and undercooked with no taste. Cheap and nasty. We took one sandwich back to show the staff who responded saying ‘it should be fine’. Trust me, it wasn’t fine. They delivered another one which to be honest wasn’t great either. By this time I had lost my appetite. Don’t bother with this place. Give it a miss

We often visit the Gorge in South Street for our Sunday lunch. The staff are friendly and helpful. We recommend the 'Ham, egg and Chips'. Lovely slices of fresh ham, proper runny eggs and a good portion of chips, all washed down with a mug of tea. The place has a great sense of atmosphere and I'd highly recommend it if you're visiting Dorchester.

For the critics, go elsewhere! This is proper cafe style food, it's not fancy, not up itself. The ladies are lovely and always generous portions. Brekkie is great, lunch specials great value. If you want Michelin stars I'd say you're in the wrong town!

Quick stop for lunch - my partner and I had the veggie breakfast. As I’m vegan I asked for this without the fried egg and paid extra to have mushrooms instead, which I didn’t mind. I also asked for soya milk in the coffee as I don’t do dairy ... the lady looked stunned at such an outlandish request, so I said that’s ok, make it black.

Me and my partner stopped here for some lunch as I used to come here often with my Nan which back then was very good ordered 2 gorge grills and for the price it was ok but that’s about it the burger severed it was very dried up and clearly low quality the highlight was the coffees we had which were very good but think we try somewhere else next time

Visited this place following a long day of house hunting and was seriously disappointed. Just wanted something easy....eggs on toast and asked if I could have poached. Well! You would have thought I head two heads and had asked for deep fried elk! Lot’s of sniggering (very unprofessional!) and a comment of “well we can put a lid on a fried one???” Felt very uncomfortable and annoyed at the total lack of customer service. Will not go into detail regards the food but to be honest, I think my dog would have turned his nose up! Up your game as you do not deserve to have a prominent position in the town centre and the people who think you are “great” obviously are grateful for sad offerings and have no sense of palate whatsoever! The fact that there are no replies to reviews from “The Management” says it all! I enjoy fine dining but also basic cafe grub, done well can be a delight! Sadly, this establishment is a disgrace and wouldn’t know a decent fry up if it whacked them in the face! Remember to wipe your feet on the way OUT!

Awful visit the ladies were rude my partner asked for extra milk in tea and was told no another lady in the same time said to the girls that did her breakfast I didn’t order egg or hash browns she was told ‘give it here them and I’ll just take them off’ gave them a second chance as first visit was awful and never going again!!

Make your order at the counter, pay, take your drinks to your table and then food is quickly delivered to your table. There is a large menu of breakfast, sandwiches, salads, jacket potatoes etc everything cooked to order, portions are large. This is a busy place and can be very noisy. Staff are friendly and its a good place to eat.

Very pleasant mug of tea, and two eggs/bacon with toast the other morning. Speedily prepared to as I entered at 0715 and it was presented 7 minutes later.

Original cafe . No posh menus just a British cafe menu that is well done with excellent servings ,spotlessly clean and no trouble in mix n match the menu . Annything is no trouble as they endeavour to please . Can be very busy .

I've visited this cafe ever since I was a child and it's been a great place to eat there. Unfortunately last year we went there and the bread was crusty and out of date and my dad ordered a banana milkshake but he was practically given a glass of milk. We stopped going there after that

Whenever we have visited Dorchester, we have eaten in the Gorge. The food has always been good and I loved their coffee made with hot milk.

Popped in for a bit of lunch, staff were useless and need lessons in customer service, they didn't seem bothered that my sister sent her food back as it was over cooked no apologies were given or replacement food offered, in fact the response when we asked what her boss had said as she hadn't come back to us was" why would she talk to you there is nothing she's going to do " don't bother it's over priced and crap food and service

Been here before Always busy generally cheap average quality fried food but ok. Today however I had cheeseburger and chips , average cheap care you might say and you're right , however even for the price I didn't expect a huge pile of overcooked chips and a shriveled up dried burger with 2 pieces of inch high cucumber shoved inside a plain non toasted dried bun. No onions? So I politely told the waitress that I wasn't happy , she was sweet and apologetic and said she'd tell her boss!, so I waited and I waited , no approach no sorry are you not happy nothing!!!!! On the way out the waitress spoke to me and said , my boss is sorry but there's nothing she can do! She was embarrassed, I merely said , she can do whatever she chooses to but total ignorance is just rude!! I left !! I won't be back! So if you want cheap inedible food in a place where customer service means zilch and the manager doesn't have the decency to acknowledge your complaint then hurry on down to the gorge! If u wAnt an average burger half the price even, you'd be better off going to McDonald's! Now I know she won't read this or if she does (miracles) happen then I doubt it will be acknowledge , rant is really about her lack of manners than the crap food.

Walked in with no acknowledgement from staff at all so had to find out myself how to order which was at the till point. The staff looked fed up and disinterested. We were so hungry we had got to the point of no return, ordered a breakfast and sausage bap. Ordered coffees which tasted like water, the breakfasts were cheap and less than average. Thought maybe had picked the wrong day to go but other reviews are the same as ours. Such a shame as could be a great little cafe but needs a little updating and refresh on preparing and presenting food to paying customers. The decor was strange as it has mirrors all the way round it so which ever way you looked you either caught yourself eating or someone else!

I do like a good fry up now and again. The smell of stagnant water should of made me run for the door but we were pushed for time to find somewhere else to eat. All three meals came out at different times. The staff looked unkempt. The food did not look appealing at all. The coffee was like dirty dishwater. I would avoid this place like the plague. A waste of £20, the food was awful. The decor was dated.

The Gorge used to have a great reputation for food, However I went in today and got served the most incredibly bad breakfast. Ive included a snap shot of my beans of which I didn't touch as they smelt bad. Not entirely sure how they could think anybody would except baked beans as in the below picture.

There was four of us, all starving hungry so called into here for something to eat. The menu was basic so myself and hubby had ham egg and chips. It was quickly served and was a large meal that was also hot. The cafe itself was very clean and although we hunted could not even find a cobweb or finger mark on the mirrors. Would call in here again without hesitation. If you want honest food at reasonable prices this is a good pick

Me and my partner went in for a quite breaky well the staff were playing with kids by the till loudly obviously their family it was very noisy and very unprofessional the breakfasts have gone up in price a lot and they are no where near like they used to be I will defo not be back ever it's a shame cause it used to be good

My wife and I have just had a lunch here. We had chicken burger, which was reformed chicken and chips. The chips had no flavour and no substance. I had a cappuccino that had very little coffee flavour to it.The lady who served me did not smile and looked as if she did not want to be there.Believe all the bad reviews.

My five yr old refused to eat even the chips he took few bites of things and said I don't like it mummy, was obv not the first time the fish was cooked by the batter, staff gave we don't care attitude and was rude and abusive on Facebook then removed those . Well our family went in for a fried breakfast the other day an wish we hadn't , the woman behind the counter seemed not interested in 5 of us wanting breakfasts, asked for a few changes like no butter please for 2 of them an it came out with butter, one was minus the hash browns an when asked the girl just said 'oh Well an walked off, one coffee wanted black an served white, asked for black an she served another customer instead an then did the coffee, it seemed we picked the wrong day to go in an we won't be going back either , better service up the road thanks

Called in for a cup of tea & a coffee. Ordered from a gum chewing lad, (one of my pet hates). Tea cup had a stain on outside where it had not been washed correctly. This place is dated ,like going back to the 70's & is in need of a make over. Toilets clean.

Called in for lunch today as it was raining. Good cake food and large portions but the attitude of the manager was appalling. She did nothing but shout at the staff who were working really hard as the cafe was so busy. Two visits here for really fresh and delicious food, but beware the portion size! It was not bad for veggies, I had cauliflower cheese, which was obviously home made and really good, but don't have chips or you will never finish it plus really nice fresh peas. My husbands' salad was massive and even he struggled, but it was all fresh and nicely presented.A good Italian coffee machine & reasonable prices, excellent value.

Really faniced a breakfast while out shopping we chosen a big breakfast to share when it came out served with 1 set of cutlery I went to counter just to ask if I may have another the lady asked staff who had served my food said don't you think her little one needs a set poor girl just stood there and took abuse in front of rest of staff and me and rest of customers. I wasn't complaining but meerly asking for an additional set. Next time a junior needs addressing surely doing it a little nicer and away from the customer's more appropriated. I felt uncomfortable.I The food was good and the toilets and tables cleaned well.

We visited this cafe today (12/5/17) we were faced with a very unwelcoming woman. We ordered a tuna and mayo bap, a cheese and pickle sandwich and two latte's. Told that coffee machine had blown up. So got 2 revolting instant coffees. The tuna/ mayo bap tasted very vinegary and couldn't taste the tuna. The cheese/pickle was all pickle and very little cheese. How this place is still open I do not know.

Terrible breakfast, hard fried eggs, soggy toast, cremated sausage, barely cooked bacon, unripe tomatoes, all served cold, avoid this cafe if you enjoy food, will definitely not come back, wish we didn't visit here at all, terrible terrible cafe, only got one star because had to leave one, none would be more appropriate!

A little apprehensive about eating here from the outside, but pleasantly surprised. It is what it is, a good old fashioned greasy spoon. What made me want to write a review was the cleanliness of the place! It really was spotless. Although the decor is tired, the owners clearly take care of what they've got. Highchair was spotless (I usually clean them myself before my baby eats, but I didn't need too here). Tables were clean & not sticky like so many other cheap eateries. And not one spec of dust in the ladies toilets. Will definitely visit again when I'm next in the area.

We enjoyed a really goid full englush breakfast at this restauraunt today. We ordered and paid at the till, then sat down and waited for our food. The full english was really goid value, non greasy, good pirtion size, and served hot. A great start to the day.
