Called in for lunch with my son who is a profession chef, I'm always nervous taking him out for something to eat for obvious reasons! The venue serves food in both the bar and a much nicer restaurant area which a lovely young lady seated us in. I ordered the cheese pie with homemade baked beans and my son had the seabass which he said was excellent, phew! I was equally happy with my meal, everything was really well cooked and the service was spot on, bill very reasonable. The only issue I had was dogs being allowed into an area where food is served although to be fair it was unclear if this is just the bar or the whole venue. Excellent experience and highly recommended if you dont mind sharing your eating space with dogs.

Such a lovely place, brilliant staff, drink selection and good food menu. Only one criticism is that my wife and I ordered the roast beef Sunday dinner which came with the topside of beef with charcoal stripes, which then the taste of the beef was compromised so did not compliment the great vegetables, roast potatoes,Yorkshire pudding and gravey. I asked why and was told that the oven was full and it was a quick way to heat the beef, to which I can't believe that any chef would even consider to do to such a nice cut of beef as then all you taste is the charcoal steak like flavour. Thank you for the 25% discount bit please if this is your go to quick method then please check with the customer It is still a good popular restaurant and we will return but make it clear to not grill my roast beef.

Took my wife, Mum and son for an early Mother’s Day meal. Food was absolutely fantastic! I had the black pudding and fillet steak, wife had the halloumi and Caesar salad, mum had the black pudding and chicken supreme Little one had the sausages? Only criticism was the service was a little slow when after extra drinks. But we got them and the team serving us was very polite and professional. It was busy and we were in the bar side. Will definitely return and highly recommend

Beautifully cooked and presented food ( I had the duck breast) However, there was a disappointing lack of vegetables, which felt rather stingy. A more generous portion of fresh veg would improve the meal.

This place is an absolute jewel. Tucked away in Little Scotland in Blackrod is one of the finest dining experiences I've ever had. The is nothing more inviting than a bustling restaurant and this place was packed. We found out why. The attentive staff were superb, as was the menu. My Mrs is a veggie and she was delighted with the choice and her meal. Fortunately she has the appetite of a sparrow so I got to finish it off. The mushroom risotto is amazing. All 3 courses were delightfully presented and very much enjoyed. I cannot praise the Goose and Gander enough. Even the drinks were a cut above normal pub standards. I'll be back.

Went for lunch with the family for the first time in six years. Only three miles from home and will certainly visit again shortly. We all enjoyed from the nibbles of scampi, squid, black pudding. For main I had superb roast beef with Yorkshire, roast potatoes and about five veg. It was fantastic. My wife thought her gammon was the best she had tasted in a while as did our son in law with his burger. Reasonable prices and dog friendly which was a bonus

Having booked a table for two persons for an early dinner in the restaurant, our experience was not good. We were shown to a table and were the only couple in the restaurant. The bar side of the pub was full and very noisy with adults and children. Once we sat at our table, we were completely ignored to the point where we had to go in search of a staff member to take a drink order from us. The young girl who attempted to take our order was confused when we asked for a New Zealand white wine. As she did not know what type of wine this was, she dissapeard to ask someone else. When she finally reappeared, we asked to order some food for the second time, and then she disappeared. We were just exiting the pub to go elsewhere. So we can not comment on the food only to agree with another reviewer who also thought the staff were very poor. Shame, really, and I felt sorry for the young girl serving, but she should not be put in the position to serve customers without having a basic knowledge of food and wine.

Starters: Black pudding with a poached hens egg, absolutely delicious; succulent scallops (I’m so glad my partner persuaded me). Main courses: Fillet steak, with peppercorn sauce - cooked to perfection; roast lamb of the day, which was melt in the mouth.Of all the restaurants we have patronised, this steadfastly adheres to all regulations, which is comforting.WOW!THANK YOU

Third visit here. Food delicious again; 3 out of the 4 of us had the roast lamb dinner. All asked for extra gravy - it was only when the bill came we realised they had charged £1 each for a tiny amount of gravy. Paying £17 for the main course and being charged an extra £1 for gravy is outrageous. In addition we ordered an addition cheese cauliflower and broccoli - priced at £2.50 we all thought there would be a spoonful for everyone. When it arrived there was one small floret of broccoli and on small floret of cauliflower in a small ramekin. Barely enough for one person let alone 4.The outrageous costs spoil this otherwise lovely place.

We turned up at the restaurant at our reservation time. It took 25 minutes for menus to be given to us, not even a drinks order taken. After a further 10 minutes of waiting someone came to take our order. It's poor considering they could see we had small children with us. Once we ordered the food & drinks, things actually got better. Food was delicious, very very tasty and the drinks too, compliments to the Chef and his team. It's just unfortunate that there seems little organisation in terms of waiting staff. The gent who initially welcomes guests, seemed unhappy, rude and not welcoming at all. He stood about whilst other staff were trying their best to do a mixture of jobs - not really a team effort. We were seated a very nosy bar area whilst the restaurant (where we have dined before) was empty - I was unsure as to why we had been placed in this area as it remained empty throughout the time we were there. We had pre-booked online a week in advance, so was really surprised to be in this area. This was supposed to be a special meal for my Mum. Such a shame it's gone downhill in respect of service - the food is brilliant however.

Been here twice now for food. Lovely restaurant, nicely decorated and friendly staff. Was a little disappointed with my recent meal though. Rack of lamb at £17. Although delicious and cooked to perfection I was disappointed to only get two small pieces of lamb for the price. This was mentioned when paying the bill and they said comments will be passed to the chef but that was it. Oh well, maybe better luck next time. My husband really enjoyed his steak. Overall, lovely food and place but could give better value for the price.

I recently visited the restaurant for the 1st time for a family celebration. I found the hosting skills of the staff and waiters to be polite and welcoming and the restaurant has a lovely country feel and atmosphere. The food is absolutely fantastic. There is a great selection to choose from and the quality of the produce is excellent. Portion size on the side orders (chips etc) could be more generous though. However - the waiting time we had to endure between each course was borderline unacceptable. In particular the wait between the main and desert was over half an hour. This was a real pity as the food really was good and the meal we did have was extremely enjoyable and the beer was also excellent.

I have been a loyal customer for many years, as the food at the Goose and Gander really is the best in the area. The service has always been spot on up until very recently. We attended in December as part of a Scuba Club Christmas meal and it was a shambles... waiting an hour between each course. This was after some confusion with staff over the booking time... the booking time was made months in advance as we were a table of approx 20. However in the run up, Goose and Gander said they had lost the reservation and wanted to seat us at lunch time but this wasn’t acceptable to us. They did eventually seat us at the time we had reserved. Then, I booked my anniversary meal for myself and my husband. I had booked online only to receive a phone call the day before saying they had yet another problem with their system and they couldn’t and wouldn’t accommodate us. This then left us with a manic search to find somewhere else... which we couldn’t get in any of the places that we wanted due to the late notice. They should really get a grip of this and they could be amazing... as their food is spot on. The young, male waiter whose name I forget, is also an amazing asset too. He’s professional, courteous and on the ball when it comes to refills. It really just boils down to a management issue ensuring that things run smoothly.

What a great place, really nice atmosphere, food very nice, maybe not the cheapest but so tasty, presentation and flavours spot on, we shared the fish cake starter and then I had the leg of lamb and Dee had the gammon, she finished with something akin to lemon tart. Again the desert presentation was excellent. If I had any slight criticism it would be the quality check only happened once as we were finishing our mains but that is the only small thing if note. The staff were lovely (lots of smiles) as was the gentleman who was in charge (Portugese/Spanish) very warm and friendly. I can highly recomend this establishment and, we are going to book again for this coming Sunday as the menu was quite interesting and varied so we are going to try something else. Give it a go, we travelled 35 minutes and in really poor weather, it was worth it. John and Dee

We went for Christmas Eve lunch and chose from the ‘Festive Menu’. The portion sizes for the main courses are small. My husband has hot roast beef sandwich which came with a tiny portion of chips. The main I chose was smaller though; I ordered Traditional Fish Pie which was supposed to be smoked haddock, cod, egg with a mash topping. Usually when I’ve ordered fish pie anywhere else, it’s been a decent size in a gratin dish. The one I was served was very small - a ramekin size. It was basically about 6cm tall, 5cm of it was mash. Underneath the mash it was a couple of pieces of egg and a few flakes of salmon. It came with a tablespoon of peas and a cherry tomato randomly placed on top. It was ‘OK’ but sadly not great. It’s a nice restaurant with friendly staff but I don’t think we would be rushing back.

We then chose roasted chicken, mashed potato, celeriac puree, baby gem lettuce and a wild mushroom sauce, which (the chicken) was so succulent, whilst all the additions suited the dish perfectly. What a perfect mid-week treat.

Greeted by a lovely young man who showed us to our table and took our drinks order. We were spoilt for choice with the menus. Main menu, specials menu and 2 courses for £ or 3 courses for £. We ordered off the main menu. I had ham hock terrine to start and husband had fleetwood shrimp. Both delicious. We both had chicken for main. Chicken supreme and chicken ballotine. Both amazing. Veg was cooked to perfection. Green veg was green not overcooked and grey. Perfect dishes. Very impressed. Service was good and staff friendly. Will definitely return. Thanks for a great meal and experience

Went on a Saturday evening for a Birthday celebration based on the recent reviews. Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectation. The food was pretty much all OK, thou quite high end price wise, but the worst thing was the service. From beginning to end we had to ask for everything, for our first drinks, to place our food order, to order more drinks, to clear plates etc, etc. Many staff stood around by the kitchen looking like they were waiting for instructions and others walking past apparently unaware of what stage peoples meals were at. Such a shame.

Called in with my grandkids for a spot of lunch with the grandkids about 12-30 and the place was empty but decided to stay , the food took 35 mins to come even though we were the only people in there and when it finally arrived I had to send it back as it was cold so must have been warmed up, won’t be returning in a rush

Loved this place, the food was excellent. Service was also very good. Shrimp start was divine and excellent combination with the horseradish. Both the duck liver pate and ham hock terrine off the set menu were good. For mains, the grilled chicken was cooked to perfection and the chips were fab. Again the set menu dishes of chicken and fish pie were very good.

We have been regular visitors for several years and had begun to notice signs of decline late 2018 in terms of waiting staff, slow service, etc..

Visited for lunch and was extremely impressed by this country restaurant. The interior was modern and clean utilising a number of circular tables which are ideal for conversation. Although I only had a hot beef sandwich it was plentiful and very tasty. The bread was as light as a feather. My husband had a lamb dish and said it was one of the best lamb he’d had. There is a bar area and outside seating area. A re-visit is on the cards to sample the wider menu which includes a 3-course set price option.

We came this time with our good friends from Blackburn who had never been before. Staff very friendly food excellent. Makes a pleasant change to have table in a restraunt were you are not on top of each other. I like to have a bit of banter with the staff and this then went both ways. Even felt the need to see the manager to compliment him on his team and the food. Will defiantly be back.

No one seems to know what their doing. It’s overpriced for what you get, very inconsistent and unprofessional staff. Will not be returning here again & would advise people not to bother!

We've been several times now and have had a great experience every time. The tables are spread far enough apart that you don't feel like you're sat on someone's knee on the next table over. The booth seating is private and pleasant. The background music is always just right. The staff are always attentive and alert, taking away empty glasses, answering questions, asking for any more drinks etc.. Very well trained and all seemed to enjoy their jobs! The service during our Saturday night visit was faultless. The food is always impressive. We love the variety on the menu and the excellent quality. One of those restaurants where you MUST save room for a dessert! Looking forward to returning.

Invited here for a family birthday lunch earlier today, and not being familiar with the area expected just another pub with the standard food. I couldn't have been more wrong - this place is a cut above the rest. The waiter made a fantastic first impression, with friendly but genuine introduction and order taking for 8, read back without any errors. Service was attentive without being at all disruptive. Food - superbly presented. This is not your average pub food - really well prepared, fresh ingredients, and some thought has gone into the menu too. Little details - waiter very aware that we had a 2-year-old in the party, ensuring nothing sharp or hot was placed in reach - were noted. All in all a very pleasant lunch with great service.

I’ve been here a few times only because it’s local to friends... it’s not a place I would make the effort to visit when you have the cherry tree just down the road, (which is outstanding!)

Not my first time visiting this place but my third, absolutely loved it and Aleesha ahmed had given us the best service ever! She was so friendly and very hardworking as we came on a Friday evening and it was quiet busy however she made these drinks we ordered in its finest quality, the devils cake is a must! I recommend Magnolia desserts.
