The Golden Elephant Thai Restaurant in Castlereagh

We ordered a pad thai and a curry. The chicken was actually inedible. It looked and tasted revolting. It actually turned my stomach. I complained and was just told that that was the way that they cooked chicken, it was 'so soft'. I couldn't stomach it at all and if I did I believe I actually would have got food poisoning. Extremely disappointing food on a rare night out. Should have ordered a pad thai kit from Tesco.

One of our favourite restaurants. Very consistent quality, friendly staff, and Thai customers which is always a good sign. Hadn't been there for a while until tonight - brilliant sizzling beef, crispy tamarind chicken and the best satay I know. Served very promptly and efficiently. Highly recommended.

Best thai food I've had in Belfast. It was perfectly cooked and gorgeous flavours. Great service and a lovely atmosphere. The only downside to the evening was that there was only one dessert option but you can tell they put a lot of love and attention into the other courses so all is forgiven.

It was okay. Really wanted squid starter and they didn’t have it. Had fishcakes instead which were very soft and rubbery not nice. My main was again okay just a bit bland.

Another excellent meal at this restaurant for my wife and I. Great service and great food. We had the mix starter and chicken penang and special dry curry for mains both with boiled rice. All were excellent. Other curries highly recommended. Been going there for 20 plus years. Top food and within walking distance. I highly recommend this establishment.

This is our local, and it is a little gem of a Thai. Lovely food every time. Lunch deal is good value as well. I dropped it a star as I wish it was open more days.

Best Thai restaurant in Belfast! Definitely try the pineapple fried rice, a total must try! Their green curries and pad Thai are also really good!

Our family has been going to the golden elephant for the better part of 16 years its fantastic place to go for lunch, dinner even a takeaway highly recommended beautiful food great staff and atmosphere.

Lived in many different parts of the world including Asia and yet this is one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve ever been to. Just surprised to find an authentic place like this in Belfast!

Had a flavorful evening at Golden Elephant, a Thai gem in Belfast. Loved the food overall - Tom Yum Seafood was an explosion of flavors, and the Chicken Cashew Nut was spot on. The Duck Sweet and Sour was nice, though a bit overly seasoned and salty for my liking. We also had the Black Sticky Rice Pudding for dessert and it was SO GOOD, a perfect ending to a fantastic meal. Couldn't finish everything because we were so full, but the cozy home-like atmosphere made it even better. If you're up for delicious Thai food and a warm vibe, give Golden Elephant a visit!

Authentic light Thai food. We had the king prawn Penang curry, chicken with cashew nuts, duck in hot, sweet and sour. Stir fried veggies, noodles, fried rice and chips. It was delicious. Very light sauces so weren’t gloopy. Fresh and tasty. It came out quickly and was piping hot. The atmosphere in the restaurant was a little quiet. There wasn’t any background music which would have been nice. Over all a great experience.

Can't say a bad word about my first visit. There were 12 persons present in our group, all were very pleased with our welcome and the meal provided.

Today three of us went to Golden Elephant to have our dinner, my boyfriend, I and our friend. We just came from an art exhibition our friend held for a local charity. Everything went well so we were very happy until we got this restaurant. My boyfriend and I have been here for 7 years, and our friend has been here for over 30 years. However, all of us are Chinese. Why I said so? From we went into the restaurant, the waitress treated us very rudely. What's even more ridiculous is after serving us with extremely bad attitude, she then served other local customers with happy face. Moreover, the portion of each dish we got was ridiculously small compared with when we came with our local friends. Also, they were really in a hurry taking our plates, which made me very nervous. For example, when one of us haven't finished, they would cone and take the plates of the other two. Finally, just ten minutes after we paying the bill, the waitress came and said to us that we cannot sit here anymore, although there are plenty of tables available in the restaurant. I really wanted to ask them why treated us in such a rude way. Just because we look very much like them? We do research here, we do charity here, we live here and love here as everyone else. I can't believe that racism still exists today, happened between Asian and Asian. This is really a bad experience. I'll tell all of my friends about this experience. If you don't want to serve anyone from Asia, I can help.

Situated just outside of Belfast, this is a wee hidden gem. Fantastic authentic food, friendly service, bright airy atmosphere. Highly recommend taking the time to get out here and sample the offerings.

Annual visit for a family birthday (group of about 15), & it never disappoints. Every dish tasty, some gluten-free options, friendly staff.

Surprised by how authentic this was. Pad Thai chicken #37 Duck with sweet & sour sauce #72 Beef massaman curry #128 Would recommend all the above. Only minor problem was they didn’t have the mango dessert available.

Cracking Thai, with proper Thai food. Would recommend the Monkfish in Taramind sauce 👌 Will definitely be revisiting if in Belfast again, God willing.

Nice Thai food at very reasonable prices. The soup, spring roll pad Thai, rice with satay beef and ice cream which came with the lunch sets were all authentic and tasty. Have to say we were recommended the £7.50 lunchtime deal and have to say it met all the hype.Inside it is smart and clean . You are met with a polite and friendly welcome.Staff take you to your table once you pass your Covid entry(you must provide evidence)Large array of dishes available which have been tasty and light.We had Thai style soup and spring rolls followed by beef and chilli noodles and chicken in oyster sauce as our preferred dishes.The dishes are very flavoursome and succulent . Good amounts of food for a lunch deal. Would enjoy going here again with friends.

Great taste！The curry crab and BBQ beef are very delicious. Tom Yum Soup is authentic. However, the pineapple fried rice is not that good and the starter squid is hard to chew. Will come back again.

Never had Thai food before and I can absolutely, 100% say that I will definitely be back! This place was so good!! Extensive menu that doesn't lack in flavour! The menu is a bit overwhelming at first but this just means that there is so much more to come back and try! My advice, order a couple of different meal and split them! Also the price, cheap for what you get!!

The food was first class and the staff excellent and the meal was with us in no time. The decor is very nice and the place was spotless and the staff were all following the covid rules. We will be back.

Had a business meeting nearby and had an hour or two to kill so went looking for somewhere for lunch. A little coffee shop offering not an extensive menu , a Subway and then I saw this establishment "Golden Elephant ". My wife and I decided to try it. We were immediately welcomed and courtsied on enter and shown to a table. They had a lunchtime special menu on , quite a few choices. Difficult to choose as everything looked and sounded delicious. I had the Hot and Sour Coconut soup which didn't disappoint. Very very tasty , then for main the Golden Elephant fried rice , with Satay kebab. The presentation was amazing, and I can honestly say it was delicious . Clean premises , courteous staff in Thai clothing added to the experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal ; as did my wife. I will certainly return to this hidden gem.

I always try and be very honest when making any review and it also has to do with similar experiences I have had so here goes..Due to a planned trip to Thailand and doing lots of research I have started to try Thai food.. I recently tried Phad Thai from Kanto in Lisburn twice and loved the flavours..I realised this place while great did not specialise in Thai food so I decided to try "The Golden Elephant" to see how it matched up..I really wish I did not have to say this but it was nowhere near as good as the same food I got at Kanto. The portion was bigger but I was a little disappointed at the lack of flavour. Kanto is the same price with less food but the flavour wins hands down.

I had such an excellent meal out of this restaurant, highly recommended. We had the spring rolls, pad Thai and chicken with oyster sauce. All excellent.

I ordered red thai chicken curry, it was very bland and no chillies in it. It was a good portion but let down by its consistency. The sauce needs thickened

My first visit we were given an extensive menu. I chose a shared platter starter with my partner it was very light and tasty. Our main courses of barbeque steak and crispy duck in mango sauce were delicious. A lovely bottle of Chardonnay in a relaxed restaurant was lovely after a busy week. We will be back.

Fair and away the best thai restaurant in Ireland. Enjoyment every time I eat here and the staff are second to none. Well worth the visit.

Finally decided to try our ‘local’. We constantly chop and change takeaways and I think we’ve now found our regular. The food is so fresh, incredibly tasty and comes in decent sized portions. It feels a lot healthier than other takeaways eg Chinese etc. We had the beef pad Thai, chicken red curry, sweet and sour chicken, coconut rice (amazing) and chips. Highly recommended and we’ll definitely be back!

This one of our favourite Asian Restaurant in Belfast, and this is our 5th time here. Food is gorgeous and reasonably priced. The staff are great no matter how busy they are. They go above and beyond. FYI: this restaurant is always busy even on weekdays. It just shows how good the food and service is😍

Great walk-in Thai restaurant. Forget the Chinese and try Thai. Clean, comfortable, warm, attentive service and excellent food. Well worth a visit.

Really lovely Thai food with good range of vegetarian and tofu dishes. Large portions which compensate for Golden Elephant being a little bit more expensive than some other Thai restaurants in Belfast. Vegetable Massaman Curry and Tofu in Hot Sweet Chilli Sauce were delicious, as were the Vegetable Spring Rolls with Plum Sauce. You will need to ensure you ask for food to be cooked without fish sauce if you are vegetarian. Great for a casual dinner. As restaurant was very brightly lit and had a couple of noisy family birthday groups when we visited - wouldn't be good for a quiet, chilled, relaxed meal due to noise levels and glaring brightness - but still is a nice spot.

This is the most authentic Thai restaurant in Belfast. Selection is great and food is amazing! We eat here at least once per month....worth a visit!

GREASE was the word. we were visiting from london got take away to take back to our accommadation. Could nit believe it when we opened it. The chips were horrendous...like putting pure fat in my mouth. It wasnt cheap either. I had rice and prawns which was ok but not the best I have tasted. The sweet and sour was really thick..... but we were so hungry we had to eat some of it. The prawn crackers were brown ?..never seen brown ones before like they had been cooked in old fat.... one bite was enough of them. tasted fatty too.... sorry wont be going back there when we visit next year. and the lady taking our order was impatient and not helpful.

This place has some legit Thai food. It is no Thailand, but it certainly is as authentic Thai food in Belfast as you can get. I love it more than Bo Tree as Bo Tree's portions are much smaller than The Golden Elephant. Only drawback is that it is just a little out of the way so you'd need to drive to get to this place. But hey, it's free parking!

No era el lugar más grande en la planta baja y estaba bastante vacío cuando llegamos, pero se llenó a medida que avanzaba la noche. Sin embargo, si tiene que pagar de 11 a 14 por un plato principal, creo que es un poco caro tener que pagar 3/4 por un lado de arroz, fideos o verduras. El segundo fue que estábamos sobrecargados por una bebida en la factura. No hizo una escena pero redujo la propina. Servicio bien, incluso cuando se puso más ocupado. Probablemente le dará otra oportunidad en un mes o 2, pero estará revisando la factura.

Can not recommend. Food was terrible. Calamari extremely chewy and lacked flavour. Thai green curry was appalling for an establishment that claims to be 'authentic'. Will NOT be back

I have a Chinese friend who visits me about once per year and we invariably end up eating here at least once. You can usually get a table without booking, the food is good and relatively inexpensive. The atmosphere is congenial, no loud music so easy to chat. The staff are pleasant and attentive. I'd highly recommend it. Give me a like if you found this helpful.

Thai food with a good level of heat, wonderful seafood dishes.

Fantastic real Thai food in this South Belfast favourite. The chicken satay is fresh and flavourful, fruity with mango. There are soups and salads, as well as lots of different currys: red, green, yellow and massaman. From the chargrill, try the succulent squid or pigs neck meat, both with delicate dipping sauces. For a total treat, the whole sea bass with lime and chilli is a feast, served in a special fish-shaped metal dish which keeps the fish hot. Sticky rice and noodles are perfect accompaniments. Service friendly and processional.

I had the Lunch menu which is 3 courses for £7.50. Really good value, tasty and quick service. The third course is ice cream or tea & coffee which isn't great but not bad.
