Waited 1hr 50mins on meal when phoned said with driver but driver said just picked it up ( which I believe as was hot) missing sauce from meal 🤬

Very bad service and bad quality food. Also the portions are very small. It use to be better with the previous owners 👍 won't come back

Got to be one of the worst takeaways in Arbroath. Couldn't order online ordering system wasn't working. No mention of cash only . Nearest cash machines charging a fortune to take money out. And the thing working behind the counter . Rude and unhelpful if you hate your job that much don't do it you tube .

Will never be back here again. Counterstaff down right rude and unwilling to help. Ordered spicy noodles when received it was special spicy noodle with meat in it. These noodles were for a non meat eater so when we phoned up the girl was down right rude about it she refused to even attempt to sort the order or check if anything could be done with her manager. She eventually spoke to her manager after lots of cheeky comments and after we insisted. He said he’d make us another one. We handed the special spicy noodles back and refused the other ones as the attitude has totally put us off this place.

Just had a take away for tea and hats of to tonight's chef it was lovely the best I've had for a long time.... I had gluten free chicken and pineapple it was delicious 😋

Like this takeaway, always gone to it, for decades but arrived, asked if they take card. They said cash only. No cash. Off to indian. It's 2022. Maybe try and meet customers needs and requirements rather than sticking to old out of time dogma. The curry was fantastic by the way.

Great takeaway meal while on holiday. About 15 minutes drive away yet food was still red hot when we arrived back at our holiday accommodation. Very tasty and large portions!

Good staff and food above the norm

We were recently staying in a holiday cottage just outside Arbroath and decided to get Chinese from this take away. I have no complaints at all. Lovely food, great prices, super friendly girl taking the orders. Would use again and recommend.

I normally go to a different Chinese takeaway in Arbroath, but after reading the good reviews on TripAdvisor for this restaurant, I thought I’d give The Golden City a go. I am honestly baffled by the good reviews that I read. The honey chilli chicken was unlike any I’ve had before- word of warning, it is not in a batter, nor is it in a nice, sticky and sweet honey sauce. It is in a veg-loaded, watery sauce.The sweet and sour pork balls were also not great. The insides were slimy, as the batter was undercooked. The pork itself was ropey, with some chunks of fat left on. We also found veins in both the chicken and the pork, which is a particular pet hate of mine. A little more care when cutting and preparing the meat could have avoided this. The egg fried rice and the sweet n’ sour sauce were fine, but they don’t make a meal, I’m afraid. Normally I’d eat the leftovers the day after, but will not be doing that this time and I will not be visiting this take away again. Would not recommend.

All in all just what you expect. Decent food and prices. Good service too. Pretty decent menu as well.

Waited 45 mins which would have been ok except 3 smaller orders taken after ours got their food first. When we got the 6 miles home food was still really hot but one of the main courses missing. Fortunately portions large enough for there to be enough to dish out but too fed up to ring cos I wasn't going back. Both dry and gravied ribs were like biltong. Salt and chili wings and spring roll however really good. Satay beef while tasty should've been called satay veg; the beef was hard to find. Sweet and sour king prawn balls strangely has an undercooked texture to the batter but were quite nice. Based on how popular this place is we might have just been unlucky but won't be risking a return visit. Just too much was wrong.

Had our usual weekly carry out from the golden city..quality as usual chicken sweetcorn soup is to die for and the extra hot beef curry with extra mushrooms and fried rice is the food of gods.😀

Got a take away from the Golden City as going out for meals gets quite expensive when you're on holiday. We weren't disappointed! Still think Chinese restaurants are always a bit too heavy on the onions, but apart from that the food was nice, the chicken and pork fresh and the sauces weren't overly gloopy and artificial like they often are. Of course the portion sizes are large as always, so keep that in mind when ordering, unless you want some left overs for the day after! :)

This is our favourite Chinese carry out in Arbroath, the food is so fresh and tasty. usually a fri nites tea after a hard week at work and it is at the bottom of the road where I work which is handy. The staff is so friendly and polite. Best salt and pepper chicken says my son.

we had a familky take away and it one of the best meals we have had , it was made quickly and was tasy aswell ...we shall be back

First visit but enjoyed a Honey Chilli Special from here on Christmas Day as just back from holiday. Pleasant and friendly service, would return.

The takeaway may look a bit worn and slightly naff but I really can't fault the food. It's consistently good and tasty.

We went here on a Tuesday basically because a lot of chinese restaurants were shut. Initially it seemed really dear but rice or chips is included in the meal. Lovely meals, three different ones were ordered all good .

Visiting Arbroath for weekend; checked the reviews of Chinese and saw this one was scoring high but with only a small number of reviews. Gave it a try and was NOT disappointed!!! Food was fantastic and portions very generous! Extensive menu; we had chicken curry, chop suet and chow mien. All lovely. Well worth a try

Excellent value for money. Fresh food cooked to order as you wait. Cheery staff in a good atmosphere. Very popular with locals, so if you are a visitor, here is the place to go. Very generous portions.
