The Glencairn Lounge in West Dunbartonshire

Absolutely the best prawn cocktail I've had in ages every one else had combo starters also fantastic. Great main course wee bit much on the steak pie kids macaroni was a big hit both chicken dishes were delicious. Really did not think we could eat any more but after a short break kids wanted ice cream and chocolate fudge cake cleared there plates I was amazed. The cheesecake special was super. Be back soon good food great value thanks for a lovely family birthday meal.

OK, this is another Dumbarton standby I visit from time to time. Booking is strongly advised because it's popular and not that big. As regards Covid-19 measures, this is signed as a "1 metre zone", and a few of the tables have been separated with perspex screens.I went with my mum and sister for Sunday lunch (not realising we were going on Father's day). We were reminded by being given a Father's day specials menu as well as the regular menu. We actually ordered mostly off the specials menu, but I had my usual "special or chicken enchilada" moment.So we ordered "panco breadcrumbed" mushrooms for the ladies, which I didn't try but looked to have regular crumb coating, real panco breadcrumbs not having subset orange food colouring in them, and scallops and black pudding with pea puree and pancetta for me. The scallops were 5 nicely seared Queens, 1 thick round of good black pudding, with a small lake of well flavoured pea puree and a generous scattering of fried pancetta.For mains my Mum and I ordered venison (served with mashed potato, carrots, mange tout and a redcurrant sauce, and my sister ordered the chicken enchilada. The venison was medium rather than rare, but I didn't actually ask if I could have it rare so that may be my fault. For my taste the mange tout was a little over-done but the carrots were just right.We didn't have dessert, feeling comfortably full. I did notice a diner at another table being served ice-cream, and requesting raspberry sauce with it. His melba dish was removed, and promptly and politely returned with the raspberry sauce added.

We dropped in here for a bite to eat and found a wee gem. The food was excellent, well presented and very tasty. The staff were lovely with nothing too much to ask for. Prices very competitive. We tried to go again but couldn’t get booked, unfortunately!!

Called to check of they could fit in a table of two, very last min. They managed to find a time for us. The service as always was polite, great customer service. Although limited with the pandemic and always busy, it is handled very well. I never need to see the menu as I know my favourites. Perfect food as always. A must visit if you have never been. This is a great place for families who are looking for well made, plentiful, homestyle dinners. It has been a Dumbarton staple for many years with a consistent and reliable menu, very friendly staff and great service. It has had several decor upgrades which mean it's now a bright space. Tables are well spaced out. The addition of daily or weekly specials (unless I missed them) would enhance the menu.

This was our first time in the Glencairn lounge and without doubt the best service we’ve had in Dumbarton. Waiting staff were friendly and attentive and the food was excellent with generous portion sizes. I will definitely be back here.

Not a nice experience. Waitress would not give any time to look at menu, despite telling her twice we were not ready to order. She just stayed at ourtable wanting our order. This was in the first five minutes.Covid seating did not exist when table next to us was occupied. I could not put a salt dish between the persons back of chair and our table. We then left our sweets paid bill at bar and left very concerned. Won't be back.

Had a brilliant time, lovely food and staff made too feel very welcome, not too expensive either, highly recommended

There’s a very good reason why this restaurant is listed as the best in Dumbarton... if you like fantastic food, cooked well, good portions and friendly staff then don’t miss this. And don’t be put off by the exterior - in this case it’s definitely a hidden gem. Been visiting this restaurant for years now on our way up to the Highlands for holidays and it never disappoints. Be sure to book as it’s always busy!

If you visit here you have to have the enchiladas! They are to die for! Huge portion too. I recommend the Cajun spice on the chicken too!

Visited this pub on many occasions and there is a good selection of pub grub and some fancier options. For prices portions are exceptional, find myself struggling to finish a main alone. Overall experience is complimented by very friendly staff.

Had an absolutely amazing meal in this lovely wee place, stumbled across it.. hidden diamond!! I had the chicken enchilada, the most fabulous dish and the amount on plate was phenomenal!! Will definately be back!! Great staff, great food!! Plenty choice from menus!!

Amazing portions, great homemade traditional Scottish (pub) food. Waitress also spoke perfect Spanish.

We arrived on a busy Dec Sunday and despite not booking we were given a table within 30 min. The staff very friendly. We started with the train wreck fries which were indulgent and very tasty. I chose Breast of duck with plum sauce for my main. The duck was perfectly cooked and delicious. Portions generous and service efficient. We loved it.

Saw the fabulous reviews on Tripadvisor so stopped in here for lunch on way up north. It really is first class food and service, in a warm friendly atmosphere - such good value. Our waitress Monica, who happens to be Spanish!! was delightful and made the whole experience just perfect. Thank you. Highly recommended.

Party of four and every meal was scrumptious,I had the steak pie and I have never repeat never had a steak pie like that before,half the plate was covered in steak and it was superb.Hats of to the chef .10/10 in my book

Came across Glencairn Pub en route to Islay with a group from Istanbul. Received a lovely welcome from the 2 girls behind the bar. Although I never reserved in advance the girls managed to seat my group. Food was plentiful, well prepared and service at its best. Special mention to Bernadette who looked after us, her friendliness, speed of service, advice and lovely personality made the experience a memorable one. Highly recommended if your in Dumbarton.

Visited this pub after years of being away from Dumbarton,but its still got great food, large portions, great service, warm and welcoming, would deffo recommend.

First time visit with my daughter...had heard about it but never been. Menu has lots of variety plus specials menu was available. Food was great! Portion size was really good. Drinks and dinner served within the hour even though it was really busy. Staff were lovely, really attentive and friendly. Reasonable prices too. Great place will defo be back!

The menu is very varied with many gluten free options available. The portions are generous and the food is high quality. Cheery atmosphere and pleasant staff. Advisable to book as it's a popular place to eat in Dumbarton.

We discovered this amazing pub by coincidence but what a surprise! From the outside you can't see anything but inside it is busy and cozy. We had a drink at the bar before our table was available. We recommend to book in advance because it is a very popular local pub. We ate the most wonderful lamb chops from the 'specials of the day menu' and duck. Big plates and very tasteful! We did not try the specialty of the house but it looked very nice: the enchilada. The service was extremely friendly and we made some new friends! Tommy and team you are the best!

Some friends and I had dinner together here recently. Perfect meeting point for us at this cosy bar. We had a range of dishes between us such as Chicken Enchilada, Chicken Supreme (their version) and Nachos as a main. Soooo good, each dish was super tasty! Friendly service and great prices, we will be back again.

Okay it isn't the nicest looking venue and not in the nicest area but this place is clean and really busy because it is very good value for money and you can't fault the food - pub grub. Super efficient friendly waiting staff.

We were dining with 4 adults and a car seat, we were seated very comfortably ensuring this wasn't a hassle.Our drinks order was taken promptly and given to us just as quick.

My friend and I were going to the River City tour and wanted to have lunch together beforehand. So she booked the glencairn simply because of the good reviews on TA. The service was smashing. Friendly and welcoming down to earth staff. Food was yummy... good portion sizes with plenty to choose from! It was a busy wee place so I’d advise booking! It might not look like much from the outside... but don’t judge a book by its cover. If you want great food in a relaxed, informal setting... give this place a try.

This wee place is a hidden gem, the food is fantastic!! I have never in my life seen portion sizes this huge. I would highly recommend the steak pie it was delicious my friends had macaroni cheese, chicken enchiladas and sirloin steak and not one of us could fault a thing and we are all quite fussy eaters. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly and the prices are very good. I had never even noticed this wee place before but a friend recommended it to me and I would recommend it to anyone and will definetly be coming back again sooon.

If you want delicious, authentic Scottish fare visit this pub! We walked in as the kitchen was closing and they still cooked for us. Very accommodating neighborhood hot spot. The chicken and mushroom pie is outstanding! We went two nights in a row. Hope to be back again!

My wife was local to this area until we married, so while out visiting relatives we decided to pop in to The Glencairn Lounge this is the first time i has went back in around 7 years and was really suprised at some of the subtle changes made its has all the usual pub grub on offer we decided to go for a Steak Pie and Mash and a Gleeny Burger from a specials menu

Having decided to treat my wife and sons to Lunch, we decided to visit the Glencairn Lounge as it had been recommended to us by a member of our family & we were definently not disappointed.

The food was great and the service was good Resemble prices for food Could do a better selection of drinks (alcohol)

We came here for my fathers birthday all 21 of us the staff were very welcoming! The Food tasted great, the portion sizes are really good. we unfortunately were sat across 4 different tables which didnt really matter but would have prefered to have been told about this prior to our visit. We will definetley be bacxk.

moved out of Dumbarton and still need to come down for creamy enchiladas every few months. Best pub grub in Dumbarton always has been.

The Glenny is my favourite place to eat in Dumbarton. Everything on the menu is amazing and the portions are massive. I always end up going for a sharer and a chicken enchilada when i'm in, can't beat it.

Always outstanding food and service. Never a bad experience out of the many times eating in! Easily in my top 3 places to visit for some whole hearty food and crazy portions! Enough to feast while you visit and have some to take home for later. Ideal!

Basic surroundings, good value for money and quality great- staff excellent. Very busy so you would Need to book to get a table or take a chance and wait in a very small crowded bar.

Ok went to the above restaurant for a meal did make a call to them sat and sun to ask one what time was the meals finishing and do I have to book a table the answer was no you don’t have to book just show up both nights I was told that so myself and my husband make our way down to the Glencairn tonight (Sunday) to ask to be seated seeing that there was tables free to be told they tables have been booked but your more than welcome to wait until one does come free sorry don’t know if I was missing something but to be told one thing then the opposite happens is just mad is it one rule one for one and another for other people to say I won’t venture back into this establishment is an understatement after how I was treated giving them the respect to give me the incorrect answers is just unbelievable I think they need to up their customer service not their food I have been in before and their food was lovely but for anyone else just check

Had a lovely family meal here at the weekend. The outside of the building really doesn't show you how lovely and inviting the restaurant is. The prices are reasonable and the portion sizes are huge! Five of us all ordered different meals across three courses and every meal was good.

Stopped in with wife, daughter and two grandsons. We had the chicken enchilada with fries and salad, the smoked salmon and the grandsons had the chicken nuggets. The portions were really good,the food was hot and very tasty. Only a few fries were left after a very enjoyable meal. We are back in Dumbarton in a months time and will stop by again to try something else on the menu.

Have to say I would reccomend this establishment to any one portions are large and the food is good quality the place could raise some of the prices by a couple of pound the cleanliness was also a great standard staff were polite and presentable we will be back

The quality of food is very good for most if not all meals. The portion size is large so ensure you are very hungry on ordering. Buying a starter is not the best idea if you hope to eat a main. The staff are very helpful and will provide a container to take food home in. Overall for price and food quality a very good option.

We visited the Glencairn Lounge and were seated immediately. Another party came into the lounge just after and sat in the table next to us, this party were asked for drinks and after 10 - 15 minutes we decided to leave as staff had not checked on us once. Overall I’m so disappointed, the food is lovely but the service was lacking.

I’ve been visiting here since I was a wee girl and the food is always superb, and the prices. I would recommend going on an empty stomach as the portion sizes are massive. It’s what they’re famous for....that and the enchiladas and steak pie.

Ha sido todo baratísimo hemos probado el pato y estaba vamos riquísimo el mejor que hemos probado hasta el momento también probamos la patata asada que estaba también muy rica. Camarero ha sido súper majo y muy atento el postre de banana cheesecake riquísimo también.si pudiéramos volver lo haríamos sin dudarlo recomendable 100%. Pubs never receive the best reviews because of misperception. But Pub Food and service doesn’t get much better than the Glencairn, having family visit this venue on a regular basis my expectations were high.

The Glencairn is a very busy and popular lounge, has a large selection on the menu with a daily offers menu. The food is of a very high standard and the portions are very big. The staff are very friendly and helpful and we eat there quite often. I would advise anyone who wants to visit The Glencairn to book their table as it is a very busy venue. Very good service,excellent food, and ,excellent value for money.

My daughter and I have been here a few times ...the food is very good and the best I have eaten it is always busy ...plenty of choice if you are a small eater ask for the children's menu ...the service is good ...best to book a table ...if you go without booking you will have a 15 minute wait....

Just leaving a quick review here as a heads up to anyone with specific dietary requirements. I've been here on an office night out the past two years, and they're just not set up to deal with specific requests. We book well in advance with dietary needs specified ahead of time. I have to eat gluten free and vegetarian, and another colleague is vegan. Last year I was served wilting iceberg lettuce with dollops of plastic cheese round the edges. This year I had nothing. I was offered a 'plate of vegetables' by some confused staff, but I wasn't confident about cross contamination and it didn't seem worth it. My vegan colleague this year had the plate of vegetables (with side salad), whereas last year was served pasta covered in cheese.

Although popular with locals I thought the food rather bland,and the seating could be better being crammed into a corner with difficulty getting out of my seat was not very good,,the toilets were absolutely disgusting,and realy could do with a good clean,no hot water and only paper towels to dry your hands,this may be ok as a public house [which it is ] but not for an eatery ,,pub grub ,,,,wont be back in a hurry ,,,,
