I have really enjoyed the atmosphere each time I've been but most importantly experienced excellent service by staff. Most recently, I left a package there by accident and Claire/Clare (sorry, I'm unsure of the spelling!) went above and beyond to ensure I got it back. She was brilliant and I can't thank her enough. It's also a really great place to the bring dogs. Will absolutely come back and I look forward to having a meal there. Thank you again!

Venue was booked for 14 friends to celebrate Christmas. The Christmas menu offered a great variety of starters mains and desserts and choices were ordered ahead of the day. It had been a while since our last visit to the Gypsy Moth and was not the initial choice for the group but thank goodness our first choice was fully booked as this turned out to be one of the best Christmas meal get togethers!! We had plenty of room as we were positioned in the mezzanine area which was lovely and after the meal there was no pressure put on us to leave allowing us plenty of time to relax. A big thank you to all the bar and service staff and especially to the chef who cooked and presented perfectly delicious food. Thanks to the Gypsy Moth team I and everyone of my friends had a fantastic day/evening 😃

Popped in for a drink, had a festive mulled wine which was nice enough. Shame the toilet signs are embarrassingly out of touch...

If you’d like to pay £5 for a pint of coke then the Gipsy Moth is the place for you!

We popped in last night before going to the Theatre, this pub had a lovely relaxed feel, a very friendly lady served us and chef's served us up a treat, scallops & monkfish was superb, wish it was our local but from Bideford it's a bit of a trek 🤣👍

The decor is very plain, as its called the Ship I expected it to have a historical interior. It has no ambience at all, or atmosphere? Of course this could be turned around if they had a pub historical designer on board.

I made a reservation, 3 weeks in advance, for 4 people at 19:30. Got a call at 18:00 asking where we were as according to them reservation was for 17:30! I explained they had made a mistake and table was booked for 19:30. I received no apology for their error, and was told they were full and had no room for us at 19:30. Even though they admitted it was their error, they had the audacity to say “have a nice evening!”. I was left to find another restaurant at very short notice for our planned meal. I was appalled by the awful customer service, lack of apology and lack of any attempt to rectify the problem. When I continued to express my disappointment I was promised a call back by the manager but that didn’t happen either. We were a small party of 4, I am sure, if they really wanted to, they could have fitted us in given it was their error.

Get pub on the hoe. Good real ales.

Steak Pie and chips,peas.10 out of 10,delicious. HIGHLY RECOMENDED.

Lovely place, popped in for a drink when staying up for the weekend! Have to say watching the roasts come out, they did look and smell amazing. I liked the different levels to the place, made it very unique and was ideal they were showing the football!! Would visit again :)

A friendly pub venue, seemingly aimed at the tourist market providing an 'authentic British pub experience' close to Plymouth Hoe. Near to a large chain hotel.. are they linked?? Not a huge menu choice, but the food was pretty good, though portion sizes varied.

Heard good things on Plymouth live about the Gypsy Moth, I've been there many times when it was the Yardarm so I thought I'd give it a go tonight 14/10/2024. Nothing has changed, same layout as before, just a new name, the interior was just how I remember it. On the plus side, the beer was good, 2 Beavertown beers - Neck Oil and Lunar Haze, a Hazy ipa which was great. However, the food wasn't that good. We ordered the Pork belly with roast potatoes and veg. Tbh I reckon we got yesterday's roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding as they were rock hard. The belly pork was just slices of fatty meat and the crackling was rock hard and unenable. No one came up to ask us how the food was while we ate what we could. Even when we paid the barmaid didn't ask us, perhaps she knew it was rubbish. Needless to say we won't be back.

Excellent sunday roast & great pub.

Dropped in for a quick drink with our daughter and her dog Lulu. Great service, plenty of seating on different levels and a wide selection of drinks. We will be making it a regular venue.

Just popped in for drinks, but the feel of the place is lovely. Like a proper old pub, with its decoration and friendly staff.

Superb food, very friendly staff

My family from America were visiting Plymouth for the first time and stayed at the Crowne Plaza. The obvious choice to chill out and have a drink after an eventful day was the Gypsy Moth. I hadn’t been in there for years and it was owned by someone else I assume when I was. Just like everyone says, the atmosphere is great, nice classic British pub vibes. Staff were extremely nice and personable. In America, we’re very particular about our chili cheese dogs. This is an important food item for us and everyone makes them a little differently. My Dad and I got one here and coming from my very American dad he says, “one of the best chili cheese dogs I’ve ever had”. That’s a big statement Gypsy Moth! Thanks and keep up the good work.

Loud.Not very pleasant. Left after one drink. Young ones came in looking for stuff they did not find and they left.

Visited Plymouth for the summer music festival. We went out to get our bearings and to see where the entrances were for the festival and we happened apon this lovely place. After much walking we decided to sit down and have a much needed beer which went down well. We were both a bit peckish so we decided to try the burger and chips! When the meal came out the experience change from great to what the hell!! The chips were dripping with grease maybe the fryer wasn’t hot enough when they had put the chips in and the burger wasn’t much better. When my partner took his first bite the fat spat out the side. They had put the salad at the bottom which had caught most of the grease so I removed that. We tried are best to eat it but started to feel sick about half way through. I didn’t want to make a Sean as it had got much busier so when the waitress came out to take our plates I showed her what it was like and she apologised. We left having paid full price for a meal neither of us could eat! Shame as couldn’t fault it apart from the food. Sadly we will not be returning!

11 of us went for father's Day, good selection of food and great service.

Stopped in for a quick pint. The service was prompt and friendly. I like that they have a collection of games for those who like to enjoy something more than a pint and good conversation 😊

Vibe was good, staff were great, but I gotta say the fish was very bland. Hard to rate it so middle of the lane since it genuinely has a nice ambience and vibe but for the price of the fish I was a bit disappointed with the almost cardboard like taste especially so close to the coast. That said I hope to go again and give them another chance with a different dish

I can't praise The Gipsy Moth and their staff enough. It's a lovely pub, with cosy decor and a nice friendly atmosphere. We've eaten there a few times and the food is marvelous. My son chose to go there for his birthday as he loves the roast dinners there, its so great that they do them every day! We booked a table and mentioned it was for a birthday. When we arrived the staff had kindly put a banner up. My son felt very special, it was lovely. We ordered the roast beef and it was as delicious as before. A huge plate of food, with a great selection of vegetables, plenty of meat and roast potatoes. My husband had the steak, he said the meat was cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was the best he'd ever tasted. Hats off to the chef. The bartender who served us was lovely, very warm and welcoming. Great little pub. Highly recommend it.

Absolutely top notch roast, every veg you could want on a roast plus cauliflower cheese :) huge portion and delicious. Our baby also loved his bowl of veg and gravy 😋 best roast we’ve had in ages! Highly recommended from all of us

Stopped by to shelter from the horrific weather. What perfect setting. Service outstanding, particularly Tanya who recommended the pie. And wow… what a pie it was, lamb and mint with all the trimmings. Def will return

The trimmings of the roast had great flavours but the beef was sadly chewy. Half of it was inedible and this was not expected for an £18 roast.

Been here a few times for a drink, this time took the family for a Sunday Roast dinner. The food was amazing, taste great and plenty on the plate. Staff always friendly and a nice feel to the place. It’s becoming my local!

Didn't have any food, but didn't want to mark it down! Brilliant staff, so helpful. Lovely atmosphere, dog friendly and a little corner for your four legged friends with treats and water.

A very pleasant pub with friendly and professional staff.

Wanted to buy a bottle of Possecco but the price was rediculous, £75. We were also told to clear our own glasses, as we were sat down stairs.

Walked in one member of staff no communication or eye contact not welcoming . Waited 20 mins still not served slow slow slow service and poor comms social skills which are a must for anyone working behind a bar . We walked out and found another bar .

Very nice pub was in there Wednesday 5th July and sat at the tables at the front very relaxing pub and the bar staff are very friendly good service. I rate this pub 100% brilliant place.

My friend & I popped in here the other day for a few drinks - I've walked past this pub many times but have never thought to go in & try it out The pub has a very cosy, traditional local pub sort of vibe with an interesting & good selection of beers & ales I didn't get to sample much but I will be back again to do so at some point, I'm sure! It was nice and quiet in there, there weren't too many people & there was some good music playing quietly - perfectly for a few Sunday afternoon pints!

Have been a few times now. Really friendly staff, excellent at remembering what drinks we have, even pouring my pint ready on bar as they saw me enter! That's old school service and brilliant. Tried the food,was amazing, fresh and very well cooked and presented. Cannot fault this pub.

I booked in for the newly launched bottomless brunch and my friend and I had the best time! The food was absolutely incredible and the staff were super friendly and really attentive. It was so reasonably priced and by far the best bottomless brunch in Plymouth - with the added bonus of a stunning view! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

It was the first time I have been there, but not the last! Cosy, friendly, good service and my drink was fab. Our dog Rosa was welcome, she even got a biscuit.

Came here for a group Christmas meal and was rather disappointed; the veg was all cooked with the red cabbage and so had a very weird tangy taste, the turkey was quite dry and I was the only person to get pigs in blankets with my turkey roast dinner... The staff seemed overwhelmed with the group size (15 of us altogether) and kept forgetting things and making mistakes, which is kind of understandable on a Saturday night but not really excusable. The bar staff seemed a bit short and abrupt, maybe they were stressed and busy but it's not a great customer service experience. I probably wouldn't go back here

Very disappointed with the Sunday lunch. Me and my family was having a get together. & looking very excited to have a Sunday roast at gipsy moth. As lot's of friends said it's amazing. BUT this was not the case for us food was very OVER COOKED potatoes was like bricks and parsnips was so soiled. & one of the meals was forgotten and had to say so. So waited again much longer than my family. VERY DISAPPOINTING 😞 would not recommend

Clean and friendly serving good beer in a stunning environment

Went here for a Sunday roast after calling to book at the Fisherman Arms who said The Gipsy Moth was their sister restaurant and had the same menu. The pub itself is lovely and has really good potential. We waited a very long time to be served, when our starters came it didn’t come with the condiments stated on the menu and when asking the wait staff she seemed quite put out and told us the menu had changed but eventually after a very long wait went to get the condiments. The roast was awful and can safely say it was one of the worst roasts we had ever had. Clearly had been sat under a heater for a very long time, potatoes and stuffing were rock solid and parsnips weren’t cooked at all. A group of ladies who ordered before us were also very unhappy with their meal and as they left told us it was awful and inedible. At the end of the meal we went to pay at the til and asked if we could split the bill. Again the staff behind the counter seemed very put out and abruptly told us she would have to give us the bill to sort out ourselves as she had “plenty of other things to do” which we said was absolutely fine and then saw her having a cigarette outside whilst we sorted the bill. Clearly a serious problem with not having enough staff on shift but even that doesn’t excuse the poor quality food. Such a shame for what seemed like a overly pub.

Ordered an orange juice which was done off the tap was clearly orange squash maybe with a bit of juice in for £4 was disgusting don’t bother ordering soft drink here

Excellent plated roast could not fault .but dessert 6pounds for 1 scoop of ice cream and a few bits of broken merigne. That is so overpriced
