Lovely friendly thatched pub in Chideock. Very unpretentious. Good atmosphere, good food, good service. Recommended

Disappointing. This pub has such potential but everything was just slightly lacking. The welcome was not warm, the ambiance was also on the cool side and the food was average.

I booked a table for me and my wife and 2dogs we were greeted by Sophie who was extremely polite and friendly throughout our visit and she made us feel very comfortable and welcomed and the food was absolutely outstanding I had the steak and my wife had the chicken bacon and leek pie and the steak was cooked to perfection and it melted in my mouth it was the best steak I have ever eaten and the pie was amazing as well I would like to thank the chef very much for the best meals for a long time. Went for New Years Eve. We were squeezed in with a four legged friend at late notice. Service was fantastic straight away and throughout the evening when they were very busy. We had the fish and the duck. Both were exceptional and I have to say one of the best Duck dishes I’ve tasted. Was all very well and reasonably priced, and finished off with some brilliant live music. A great way to spend New Years. Thank you!

After driving past this pub for many years we decided to stop off for a drink and hoping the kitchen was serving food as it was late in the afternoon and most pubs enroute home were closed. Well what can we say other than amazing ! The charm of old inn , the amazing hospitality together with sumptuous dishes and good local beer meant we will most definitely be returning! Support your local pubs and breweries, again Palmers of Bridport do the simple things and make sure guests are happy! Well done to the manager and kitchen staff !

It's several years since we were last the The George and the atmosphere and food were great then. This visit showed many changes - not least in the menu - but food and service were as good as ever. The menu had a great range of choices, the prices reasonable and the staff friendly. It wasn't a busy night but quiet is good. We will certainly return.

Visited here yet again and wasn’t disappointed. We have been coming here for at least 10years pre, during and post COVID. And can honestly say everything is excellent. Food, welcome, atmosphere and venue. It is clean and welcoming and good to be back

Excellent service and food, and Coeliacs well catered for. We booked here for dinner after seeing the good reviews on a Gluten Free website. Exceeded expectation - the staff were welcoming and very knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients. The food was delicious and varied with a great choice and the service was first class. I can't recommend The George highly enough. We will be definitely be returning next time we are in the area!

What's happened? We made a point to visit this pub on its pizza evening as we had always enjoyed these in the past (previously stayed twice in holiday cottages in Chideock). We were early but prepared to have a drink & wait awhile for pizza oven to be fired up. Very soon we were told we could order and ready to go (being about 45 minutes earlier than expected) but hey ho we ordered & they arrived very quickly. Well what rubbish? The bases used to be very thin & stone baked, these were like cardboard the toppings were bland & not evenily scattered. £54 later 2 x drinks each, a bowl of olives & 2 poor pizzas we left very disappointed. Money I think could have been spent on a more memorable meal. Sorry won't be returning

The food we had for our evening meal was first class from starter through to deserts. This was accompanied by excellent friendly and efficient service. The prices were quite reasonable by current standards. Definitely the best place to eat in this area.

Members of my family went into the pub to book a table for 16. They said the two members of staff they spoke to were most unwelcoming and verging on rude..they were unable to fit us in which is fair enough, but surely politeness in relaying this doesn't cost much..won't be going there ever as a result which is a shame given we are staying two doors away and the place was recommended!!!

Best pizza anywhere end of. And the pub has a great atmosphere, other amazing food and a good choice of drinks. They welcome dogs just warn them in advance - not a hardship. Staff are really friendly and even when busy are very attentive.

The setting and the staff/service were lovely. However, having ordered the plougmans, it felt like it had come straight out of a very cold fridge. The two slices of chunky bread in particular were just solid and freezing. Such a shame, you made such an effort with good food and huge (too huge) portions but this was such an issue. Please serve it at room temperature and also warm the bread.

What a fantastic find. We booked the day before for 4 of us we all had starters. Mine was mackerel it was excellent, then the beef roast, one of the best I have had. We all thought the food was top class. As well as the excellent food the staff were so helpful & attentive. I will most definitely going back.

We’ve been to The George at Chideock a few times and my Lunch last Thursday was very good. 3 of us had Fish Chips and Garden Peas and the other one had the Vegetarian Option, Mushroom Bourgeon. We were all pleased with the food but I have to say I thought the Menu was a bit limited.Also the Bill wasn’t cheap.

When I last came to Chideock I said that this establishment was nothing to write home about. Unfortunately my latest visit does nothing to make me change my mind. Lockdown has made me ask myself why I visit such places. I found the place dark, dismal and uninviting. It could have been uplifted by the food and drink but alas no. The best part of the experience was that the ladies who were serving were very pleasant. The hospitality industry is undergoing fundamental changes and in my opinion places like this need to adapt or they will disappear.

Really nice atmosphere with fire being lit on a November evening after a long walk on south Coast Way. We wanted to treat ourselves for a birthday. The staff were lovely and service very good. Sadly we were disappointed. We chose the Vegan and Veggie options on the menu but they were really very poor. Stodgy, bland, no flavour and we couldn't finish it. I hope that the chef can explore tastier options and try things to suit people who don't eat meat or dairy, otherwise you're neglecting a client group entirely.

My friend and I have eaten here a couple of times.It is dog friendly and my boy was given a few dog biscuits which delighted him.We find the owner and the staff are delightful and very friendly. There is no rush but food is served in a timely manner.Car parking at the rear is very handy.The food is lovely especially the desserts!

Pretty poor quality food. I had the fish on a bed of noodles. The noodles tasted dreadful… too salty. My wife had a burger which was unimaginative and dry. Friendly staff tho.

We visited for Sunday lunch as a family of 3 generations. The staff would wonderfully accommodating finding a suitable highchair for our baby and bringing a baby portion of Sunday roast for him ahead of our food so we could feed him early.All the food was delicious and we really enjoyed ourselves. We visited this pub when we previously visited the area, and again we weren’t disappointed. The present landlord has obviously made sure that everything runs smoothly and the staff couldn’t be more pleasant and helpful. We had a lovely dinner one evening and Sunday roast. we visited on a Monday evening after finding just about every other place in the area is shut on Monday and Tuesday... ane excellent opportunity for the George!We have driven past this place so many times over the year, and have a vague recollection of visiting and being less than impressed many years ago but it must have changed hands or had a complete revamp and rethink because now it is fantastic - clean, welcoming, great service, lovely cosy interior (nice looking patio area out back with pizza oven too), the food was great (scallops, burger, chicken supreme), reasonably priced, and the wine was at a good price too. We will be back!!!

During our trip to West Bay, we had lunch at this excellent Inn. Everyone really enjoyed their food but the standout dish for me was their scallops. They were outstanding and the best I have ever tasted. If I lived closer I would be there every week

The service was spot on. Very personable, attentive and friendly. The food was delicious too. We went once during our stay in the area and decided to book again for the last night. We weren’t disappointed. All meals during both visits were delicious! It was recommended to us and we can see why!

Just had a gorgeous lunch, sat in the garden at The George. The garden is really nicely maintained with stunning flowers. I had a beautiful crab salad, hubby had a yummy chowder full of fish and seafood and daughters had the best burgers they’ve had in ages! Service was great. Highly recommend this fantastic pub.

Plenty of parking round the back. Fairly small restaurant, but has both a public bar further through and a sitting/lounge area plus an outside seating area at the back. Owners have a large yellow alsatian Who is friendly and no trouble. I started with a delicious scallops and belly pork strips starter. For the main we had Seafood chowder and crusty bread for me and my wife had crab salad. For dessert I had lime and kiwi possett and she had pina colada brulee with a cocnut shortbread. Heather the waitress was helpful and attentive. Withree glasses of wine , bill was £75.40, so not too expensive. Food was of a very high standaed.

We visited last Saturday night for my wife’s and daughter’s birthday. It was one of the most enjoyable nights we’ve had out post lockdown. The drinks, food, service and ambience were all spot on. I had the sea bass and my wife had the seafood chowder. The food was delicious, a class above most pubs. The menu was reassuringly small and a bit pricey but well worth it. The service was also good. All together a great experience.

Highly recommend! Staying at Golden Cap and pre-booked a table for an evening meal. Great welcome and personalised service with superb food. (The chocolate brownie with honeycomb ice cream was the best!) What more would you want on your holiday! Dog friendly and very accommodating. Ate here twice whilst on recent holiday. Food was lovely and all 3 of us ate various items from the mains and on each occasion they were great. Staff very accommodating and friendly.

We booked this pub as we were staying at golden cap site nearby and it was fab, service very good, food very nice indeed both meals were great and puddings delicious. We were disappointed by the falafel burgers. The falafel were totally bland, like small, tasteless sponges with no flavouring or spice. Disappointing and very over-priced.

We have been visiting the George for a number of years both for meals and drinks.On every occasion Amy, Jamie and the team provide an exceptional level of service and attentiveness that is hard to find elsewhere.The food is always of the highest quality and the atmosphere continues to be pleasant and homely.They say your only as good as your last experience which is why we continue to go back!

We rang to ask if ok to just turn up for a drink and was told “yes, no problem”.. so we did.. only to be asked “Have you booked?” when we got there!!!.. I explained I had rang prior and she reluctantly let us in. (the garden only!) My wife then accidentally trod on their dog which was “sprawled” across the floor in the pub!! Ooo if looks could kill!!!... nice enough pub however food was the star of the show, excellent fish curry and even came back for Pizza Night.. worth a visit for the food, just don’t upset the owners!

Looked for a location midway between Bovey Tracey and Swanage and the George Inn was perfectly located.The staff were very friendly and helpful.The menu was very good and offered a varied choice.The atmosphere was very good and friendly.The food was outstanding.The wine list was limited but covered all the bases and reasonably priced.This was only our second restaurant visit since the relaxing of the rules and we enjoyed all aspects of our luncheon at the George Inn.The menu prices are slightly above average but the quality of the food justified the cost.Would recommend without hesitation.
