Charming little place, best Ethiopian food ive have possibly ever 🩷

Healthy and tasty food. Many vegan options. Very nice owner! Would love to come back!

The owner of the place is not welcoming and dismissive. The food is good but paid over 50 pounds for two people. I felt robbed. I tried to ask her about the menu and just let me do a wrong over order that was obviously two much for two people. The food was good but not 55 pounds

The Ethiopian food served here is outstanding and the atmosphere is welcoming. Whether you have eaten injera many times before, or if you haven't heard of it, you should definitely taste the food here. Genet and her chefs have mastered the art of Ethiopian cuisine and I definitely recommend visiting her restaurant.

Words can't describe how deliciously lip smacking this food is. And don't even get me started on the service, how yummy the food is and how quick it was served. Genet deserves a certificate. As an injara lover and taster, it is like nothing I have tasted before. If you want an introduction to Ethiopian food, you should DEFINITELY go to this restaurant.

My first time trying Etopian food and was fantastic, ordered the Genet special for 2 with my GF and we both loved it, owners were also nice and helpful with their suggestions.

Genet serves very authentic (it seems) and delicious Ethiopian food in Tottenham. Everything seems to be made by the one lady that runs the show, cooking and serving. She's not only a great cook but also very nice to talk to if you'd like to get some tips about what to eat. I'd highly recommend the mixed platter for the group. Bear in mind that no alcohol is served there in case you'd like to accompany your food with a beer. A selection of soft drinks is available tho.

The food really was really nice. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. If you order the Ethiopian coffee then order it while you have your food ha it takes a will to come. One little issue with this restaurant there is no toilet

It's a lovely, comfy place to try Ethiopian food. We were completely new to Ethiopian food and the owner recommended dishes to us based on our preferences. This place is definitely vegan-friendly and also suitable for people who like gluten-free food. It's also got a great selection of meat options. Things to note before you head over: 1. If you're new to Ethiopian food (like us), you may find injera (the bread you use to eat your dishes with) too sour for your liking. It is healthy, but if the sourness isn't for you, get strong-tasting dishes that can mask the sourness. We got a spicy mutton dish that worked well for this. 2. They don't do small individual plates - my picture below is the 3 dishes we ordered put on one platter. It makes for a nice communal dining experience. I really enjoyed the mutton dishes. All in all, I definitely enjoyed it - it was new to me and I came away with a greater appreciation for Ethiopian food.

Delicious food, some of the tastiest Ethiopian food I’ve had in London. I had the Awaze Tibs. Really buttery & yummy. I tried the Tej (honey wine) which was fermented and authentic too. Friendly service with a home cooked, welcoming feel.

Two of use ordered the Genet special/sharer on a Friday evening and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Worked out to ~£15 each and we both ate until we could eat no more. We were made to feel welcome and I would recommend.

Just back from this temple of Ethiopian cuisine in London Really well impressed with the authentic vibe. The place has people from different horizons sharing meals. Beautiful food and really friendly staff! The lady who served us gave us free coffees and let us try some fresh bread. I would eat here again 100% , the flavours are incredible !

Back of Genet! Mild-mannered and low key hosting put us at ease in a modest setting the moment we sat down. Two of us are vegan and the third an omni and we opted for #3 for 3 people. Decent portions of seven varieties arrived on a generously sized sharing plate lined with injera [bread] which also included four individual rolled injera. I am a pie and always want Asian sized portions so I was delighted with the size of our order, even shared between three! But what is quantity without quality? Rest assured; the chef at The Genet has you covered, delivering wonderfully well-balanced flavours, beautifully seasoned, and although some varieties looked similar and shared some vegetable ingredients, they all tasted different with each offering something to please. This is not my part of town but well worth the trip. Exceptionally good food and the best Ethiopian I've had in a good while! Please keep doing what you're doing - I will be back!!

This place made my Sunday. The lady who runs it knows what she's doing - mind-blowing food, cozy ambiance, tasty coffee, and a genuinely welcoming smile.

Home made food! I wanted to order it online via Just-It but they don’t deliver to my area. So I drove there🙂 The portions are very generous and the food is simply delicious! I’m a huge fan of food and I tried 4 different Ethiopian restaurants in London. Hands down - this one is on top. I’m coming back for more on a weekly basis now.

I never seen in my life how the owner is so rude, very disrespectful and not treated every one equally . It was my first time going to buy injera but I had bad experience. She made me to feel unworthy. I will never back again..

Have always ordered the vegetarian platter here and it is fantastic! Yesterday we ordered takeaway and it was ready quickly and tasted just as lovely as always, and was not overpackaged either. I now compare all Ethiopian food that I eat to Genet's.

I thought it was to dry and the beetroots in the vegetarian were really bad. Had to throw more than I ate :(

Best Ethiopian & Eritrean Dish.

Absolute delicious and fantastic value. The two of us were served a mixed vegetarian platter for 25.99, which you can see in the photo below. It was huge and absolutely delicious. Every part of it was unusual, flavoursome and delicious. The waiter(/cook/owner?) was an absolutely delightful woman who did everything she could to help us and make us feel at home. We were the only people in there, but there should be queues out the door, it's honestly wonderful. It's BYOB as well! Couldn't recommend more highly.

Food is some of the best. Owner is incredibly rude and makes you feel like an inconvenience. Many other ethiopian restaurants within a mile that have comparable food and much better service

Hard to find little gem at the bottom of a housing block, serving Ethiopean/eritrean food. So just to be aware, service is a little slow, but this is more than made up for by the very accommodating prices, and the BYOB policy (no corkage!). I would go for one of the larger meat or vegetarian platters (think I have asked for both on the same injeera!) as they give you a great introduction to this place. Highly recommended!

The food is always absolutely incredible, Genet is a genius cook. I always have the same thing, which is the mixed vegetarian dish and it never fails to delight. I've had Ethiopian in a few other places and they honestly haven't come close. Portions are generous, prices are very reasonable and I love the family and community atmosphere of the place. Staff (the kids) and regulars are very friendly and you might get to learn a bit about Ethiopian pop music, if they have the TV on the music channel. I usually hate TVs on while I'm eating but the fact that it's only Ethiopian channels really adds to the cultural experience and is good fun.

Often has her kids sat watching tv or doing their homework in the restaurant. And she can be a bit moody at times. Good food though.

Totally agree with the other reviews here. Our 1st try of Ethiopian cuisine and we couldn't stop eating! With my partner, we usually share a good conversation and alcohol with dinner. Not here .... we were both just focused on the food! A definite must-try!

The food here is so good. I usually like to drink alcohol with a meal, but here you don't need to because the food makes you high during and after - the taste is that good. You have to eat it to believe it. Really amazing.

There was a large group of us and the platters that we ordered were even larger! Everyone loved the uniqueness of the food, with loads of flavours and of course that special Ethiopian bread to soak it all up with. The staff were attentive and went out of their way to help us. Very friendly and a definite one to revisit. Amazing low prices as well.

Great food, amazing hospitality

Best Ethiopian I've had so far (it's probably better in Ethiopia, I guess). The serving was massive, it's great value for money too. And somehow quite a quaint location even though it's at the base of a huge block of flats. Chef and the waiter were very nice.

I am obsessed with this place!!!! I've been with a couple of groups of friends on different occasions and everyone has loved it. Now my friends head there on their own regularly. This is by far the best Ethiopian I've ever had in my life. By far the best in London. My favourite is the vege shared dishes on the pancake. Please go here. You wont regret it.

This restaurant is just A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. It is unassuming and the focus is on the quality of the food delivered. The flavours are sensational, the staff are just so kind and lovely. I love the atmosphere...I felt I was part of a family. The other guests were also really laid back and were having a good time as well. We had the veggie plate for two....we couldn't walk straight after this feast...we were so full but content! :) Thank you so much for this experience, we will be back soon, keep up the good work, you guys are running this little gem the right way!

Public aren't my usual thing but when it comes to the best food I've ever eaten in a restaurant then it'd be rude not to share 😋. By recommendation we happened upon this unassuming Ethiopian place run by the chef and her husband who were gentlest loveliest people who somehow managed to pass on some sort of arcane wisdom through the medium of the tastiest, cleanest, inexplicably delicious and stratospherically gorgeous OK shut up Dan. 1) It's called Genet Restaurant. 2) It's at 4 Victoria rd, Seven Sisters 3) Go there 4) The vegetarian buffet thing for two. Yes.

It is saying that opening at 11am on sunday but nobody wast there till 2pm. Slow service, food was ok, but could be better. Amazing enjera bred

Two friends asked me to visit this restaurant with them. None of us had been before but my friends had heard of the restaurant from a third party and as they enjoyed Ethiopian food wanted to try it out. I'm not very adventurous so had reservations about eating a new cuisine. We went on a Thursday evening for dinner, about 7:30pm. When we arrived we were told that we had arrived during the fasting period so the restaurant could only serve vegan meals, we also found out that there was no alcohol licence but we could bring in alcohol for a small corking charge (there's an off licence opposite so we quickly grabbed a couple of drinks). The welcome was great and the staff (I think owner) very friendly. They helped us understand the menu and we opted for a large selection plate for three people. When the plate arrived it was huge, smelled and looked beautiful (see image). The host explained each item to us and was happy to answer any questions with a smile. The food was delicious - we ate everything and asked for more. I was really surprised - everything had a great flavour and lots of different flavours without being too overpowering with spice or heat. The fact it was all vegan - you would never have known! I can highly recommend this place and we will be going back... This restaurant is within a small shopping arcade by a social housing estate that doesn't have a great reputation - do not let this put you off! You won't regret it if you go - the decor is a bit tired but the place is clean, welcoming and friendly.

An unassuming place serving wonderfully tasty food. The owner lady roasts her own Ethiopian coffee beans on the spot (with a pan on coal) and does a coffee ceremony for you if it’s not too busy.

Great Ethiopian food I had the vegetarian selection. You can get it for 2 or 3 people, the menu says extra people +£8 but the server said no so with five of us we got one plate for 3 and one for 2. So much food!

Lovely lady who cooks amazing traditional food! Will definitely come back. Very laid back atmosphere too.

Lovely homey experience of Africa. Mama's cooking, early evening, kids doing their homework and serving drinks. (Its bring your own if you want alcohol) Large TV quietly showing an Ethiopian sermon then some traditional love songs and dance. Friendly banter with mama. Food is very good, a selection of small veg, meat and lentil dishes to be wrapped in a kind of pancake and shared. It really fills you up. This place is one of the cool authentic things about living in multicultural Tottenham, which I hope survives after the developers have brought in the yuppies. Very reasonably priced too. More an evening place than lunchtime. Takeaways encouraged but you have to pick up yourself.
