Went with a friend for coffee and scones - lovely fashionable, pleasant interior. The scones, which were served with the option of cream and jam, were very tasty, and the coffee was good. However, even though it wasn't especially busy, it was impossible to find a clean table free from previous diners' dirty dishes. Perhaps we just arrived at the wrong time and after a very busy period, as soon after we had sat down I did see the server going around removing dirty dishes and wiping table tops - unfortunately, our table wasn't one of them! For this reason I won't be returning - which is a shame. Also we paid cash but no receipt was given.

The Garden by Leaf is situated at FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology, a venue offering a unique programme of exhibitions, film and participant led art projects, with four state of the art film screens. I had also been to their sister restaurant Leaf on Bold Street in December and knew there were plenty of vegan options, having contacted them prior to my visit. The place is light, airy and welcoming, with a lovely tranquil feel to it, but yet bright and colourful too. I chose a houmous and roasted vegetable sandwich, one of my all time favourites, with a pot of Earl Grey tea. It was delicious, packed with filling and served with some balsamic dressed salad leaves on the side.My husband had Thai butternut squash soup with a grilled halloumi and mushroom sandwich, which was delicious. We will definitely revisit when next in Liverpool.

We were looking for somewhere to have a cup of tea and a sit down. As we walked up Bold street some places were so busy they had queues waiting to be seated and were very crowded. We cut through and came across Fact cafe. It was lovely and quiet, calm and relaxing with plenty of room. We both chose our drink and I had Victoria sponge and my husband had the flapjack which we both thought were lovely.

We had lunch for two. Sitting against the deep blue wall rather than the window was a good idea for a sunny day. Order at the counter and then waitress service. We went for a small salad selection (delicious and vegetarian), and the pitta and hummus nibble, along with peppermint and root ginger teas. All was wonderful. The teas were excellent. Nice place to take a breath and enjoy the retro decor with yellow and white strips of paint and a good cinema upstairs. Seemed a very mixed and relaxed clientele - loved it.

On Sunday 17th August myself, my wife and two daughters had booked tickets for a film starting at 6.30pm and wished to have a light meal before the film. Having had only good experiences at LEAF in Bold Street we decided to try The Garden by Leaf, which is based within the FACT building. On the FACT website, it states that the cafe is open from 10.30 to 6.30pm. We arrived at The Garden cafe at 5pm to be told that they had stopped serving food and they were only serving drinks. When we explained that there was nothing on the website to indicate that they stopped serving food so early, the staff were not particularly apologetic, merely stating that there was nothing they could do about it. We left and had great food & service at the East Avenue Bakehouse, which is just around the corner from FACT.

Smart looking cafe, taking advantage of the high ceiling and glass windows, making this a great place to enjoy some tea and cake.We were here for lunch, but ended staying longer for tea and dessert after it.Lunch was the mix of salads of the day, which was fresh and crunchy. Offer is mainly vegetarian, but there are some good sandwich options for the meat lovers.Tea is loose leaf and cakes were tasty and moist.Lunch for two + tea and cakes were close to 15 quid, great value for the money.

I found the food pretty but calorie low. Apart from the cake. We went in for a late breakfast and he had wild rice salad, green bean saladwith some rocket lettuce garnish a wedge of focaccia and something else. Whilst I had half a jacket sweet potato with feta, green bean salad and a garnish of rock lettuce. It was just enough. Juice was from concentrate.A nice venue but you would need 2 dinners to really fill you up. I think we paid £12-14 with a herbal tea and a bottle of water. The tea was very nice. A good selection. Oh the cakes did look good also.Great for a light lunch but if you are a big eater.......

I had stopped going to FACT for anything to eat despite it being minutes from where I work because of the poor service and quality of food.Thankfully I found out that LEAF had taken over and knowing the quality of their Bold street eatery I am please to say that they have hugely improved everything about the place.Firstly, the décor and atmosphere - it looks great with innovative use of plants, herbs and other greenery.Staff are so much more friendly and attentive.Salads are beautifully made with unusual mix of flavours and ingredients and their large plate for £4.95 is an excellent lunch with great focaccia bread to go with the huge portions of salads.Great coffee and homemade cakes too. With your membership card at FACT you also get 10% discount on all food and drink. Great change from the old café at FACT. Lovely interesting menu choice, I had soup and sandwich which were both really delicious, at £6.95 I think it's a little expensive but totally faultless. I think it might be because its new but service took a while but I'm sure they just need to get into the swing of it.

The Garden by leaf is a re-opening and rei-magining of a cafe in the existing FACT - an modern arts/culture/film venue In Liverpool. Leaf is a trendy tea place on the nearby Bold Street and this cafe in FACT is a branching out. Newly opened the tables all have pot plants such as basil and the green of the plants and the red of the chairs makes a striking combination of bright colours. The new staff are friendly and welcoming and first impressions augur well and few teething problems are discernible. The food on offer is vegetarian in theme. Coffee is available as well as tea and the cakes, scones and sweets (we sampled Lemon Posset with fruits on) are first rate. The atmosphere is good with a variety of punters happily using wifi and slurping their coffees....I look forward to exploring the menu again.

I've been put off returning after contending with two other female customers sat at another table far to close to me who constantly spoke about some other woman's baby who although only fairly new born had been taken swimming! I also had bright sunshine in my face and was unable to get out the sun or away from these overbearing customers until I'd finished eating. The stairs are steep to climb and too difficult while carrying any heavy bag of shopping and the café can get too busy so crowded for my liking. It also once served me smoked salmon so it isn't vegetarian or wasn't then, this was a few years ago now. I've also been given cold soup that had obviously just been quickly reheated in a microwave when it was just slightly warm around the edges! I did return and mentioned it to a male member of staff who then let me off paying for whatever I ordered then. This was when a couple with a young family ran the café.
