We had the best fish and chips (medium haddock) ever last night, cannot rate it highly enough! Not greasy like some other places around, gorgeous flaky fish and the best chips to date.

Haddock was a different level well done the staff were excellent thank you food was fabulous I will definitely be back again

It was the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had by a mile so felt compelled to warn others. Portion size was tiny, the chips where bland and starchy, barley any vinegar or salt, and the fish was appalling as the batter was like rubber and greasy and it was the size of a fish finger

Friendly clean place service was fast food was awesome had potato fritters and steak pie with curry sauce it’s a family run place

Food good service poor , been let down twice when ordering food , ordered in advance then they didn’t process it second time this has happened

Kebab in naan was absolutely banging. Massive! Proper tasty, salad was the best ever from a chippie proper fresh red tomatoes 2 types of onions and some yellow peppers. £7.55, bargain, could feed two men easy. Mate had a small chips said they was banging too. Might go again tomorrow as im in the area

Wait time over 30 mins from ordering, food awful quality - chips all stuck together, black bits in the mushy peas. Not great hygiene standards from the staff witnessed whilst waiting in the store.

My wife and I used to order here a year or so ago at least twice a month until we moved away and usually found food enjoyable. However, on a recent solo visit to town, I found the food disappointing. Fish was rather dry and not flakey at all. Chips had a raw potato flavour even though they appeared cooked. Just not a good experience..

Rarely have a reason to review food as I’m either unlucky or food is average .but tonight I have been wowed !!! Friendly plaice I take my hat off to you . Mixed Grill I had tonight and it was faultless gravy too notch steak cooked to perfection bacon proper bacon not thin slices you get at some places I would highly recommend

Worth the walk from the canal. We took them back to our boat to enjoy and they were really nice chips. The onion gravy was really good too. Glad I checked out the reviews and picked this chippy. We would use again.

Lovely meal, the fish was large, well battered and cooked perfectly. I'd recommend this place. On a side note .. There is a car park at the rear, there are double yellow lines at the front and lately the vultures are handing out tickets like mad in the town.

I use this chipshop all the time because the quality of food and the service is above and beyond.

Being from black country we know a good chip shop.... unlike this one I wouldn't even give it a 1 * Chips was like they were burnt/brown and extremely dry The batter on the fish was extremely thick and greesey Staff wasn't very friendly either 😕 I would not be eating here again Many thanks

Been around for years, its a very well run Chip shop for takeaway only. Never get a bad meal here, the girls serving are always friendly and it's reasonably priced.

Absolutely fantastic food and service from The Friendly Plaice again! These guys are in a different league to other local chippys. The food is on point, but the service is second to none. Also do fantastic work supporting the local community.

Was it third time lucky? No! The Friendly Plaice used to be the 'go to place' for fish n chips in Atherstone. They had a refurb and the place looks great...but...the quality of the fish and chips are now, well, meh! Average at best. The REAL problem for me is the staff. They need to change the name to The Miserable Plaice. Three visits ago: food wasn't good but the girl that served me was so down, really uninterested and sour faced. Not good. Two visits ago: food was better but only average, same girl served me as before but just as miserable. Visit last night: again, food was average but Wow, different girl but even worse that the one before, sooooooo fed up, miserable, couldn't care less. So, if you want fish n chips that are average, go there. If you want service with a smile...avoid, go to a cemetery, much more fun. Seriously, if you're in a job that means dealing with customers, smile. If you can't do that or don't like your job, leave, do something else as all you're doing is destroying your employers business. Unfortunately I can't recommend The Friendly Plaice anymore, the staff simply ruin the food...in the cooking and service. Thanks for coming back to me, yes, would to chat about it. Next time I come in I'll ask for you...but only if I get a smile from the person serving me. Fair?

Fantastic quality fish and chips, the batter is nice and crispy and fish great value. I’m actually away in Cromer and I’ve honestly had nothing better here that back home at the friendly plaice 👍

Usually good but today's chips were soggy and the fish size had shrunk to children's one. Disappointed.

Overcharged and Order wrong for the THIRD time! I've been going here for near on 8 years, so class myself a regular. The newly rebuilt shop now seems to have new owners and so not known them for long, however - on the THIRD occasion since the new shop opened I found my order was wrong. Never used to happen. This time I was £7 out of pocket; the bill being wrong (charged for items I did not order) and missing items on the order. When I asked next time I went in (I go every week) they point blank refused to correct the problem. Quite rude and they made it out to be MY fault!! Really! Hardly a Friendly Plaice any more... So if you do go there, then check everything very very carefully, both your order AND your bill. I have since found 2 good chip shops are available very close-by in the area who are cheaper, better quality, easier parking and genuinely friendly. I would highly recommend checking them out. UPDATE: Having seen the reply: Unfortunately no, I wasn't the gentleman, wrong gender!! Also I used to go on Saturday's. That "gentleman" is a much respected member of our local club and having heard his story yesterday I realised my experience was not unique hence the review. I'm not sure if it was the same lad in the shop that I spoke to a while back, but I will show the gentleman the response; He may wish to provide a review himself following the accusation of Free Food! The best chip shop in Atherstone. The food is always really fresh and hot, the fish tastes really good and the batter is crisp. Service is swift and the staff are friendy. A really clean open plan cooking area, you can see everything from the queue and hygene is perfect, cost is average but the food is exceptional. With the current social distancing rules The Friendly Plaice have done a great job of clearly laying out floor distances markers and segregated ordering and waiting areas. Perfect!

Ordered over the phone, was able to collect 15 mins later, and this was absolutely the most delicious fish and chips ever. Huge piece of haddock, cooked for a little longer on request as we love extra extra crispy batter. Didn’t disappoint, cannot recommend highly enough. Thank you The Friendly Plaice, you are the best.

So disappointed the fish cost £5:50 and the batter fell off as it had been recooked so greasy that it had to left on kitchen towel before it was plated. Chips were soggy and not anemic all in all a big let down, Will not be using the chip shop again.

Formerly my grandparents' fish and chip shop - the current owners have renovated it completely it appears, but it still holds a special place in my heart for my family memories helping and eating there in the past. Anyway, the food is great - light crispy batter, huge fish, just the right size of chips in a cone portion for me. I alternate between this one and The Batter of Bosworth as there is nothing really to choose between them - I am a fish and chip fan, it's in my blood. Keep going guys - will get my 'fix' asap. Thanks.

We had the best fish and chip tea, delivered on time - hot and crispy batter, succulent cod and lovely chips that were cooked to perfection, no grease. Pineapple fritters and cheese fry’s were tasty. The regular cod is big, and a large chips is sufficient for two hungry adults. The contact free delivery service is a bonus in these Coronavirus lockdown days. We used the app to order and pay, it’s easy to use and takes away the worry of having to have cash at hand. Thank you for a great service, this was our third delivery and we will be booking a delivery very soon.

Brilliant service. Tried to place an order on app this evening however as I went to Confirm they stopped taking orders. I called them and was told they had to stop taking orders as they were so busy. I explained that it was my sons 6th birthday and he had chosen a chippy tea as we couldn't go out due to lock down. The lovely lady took the order for us and was so friendly and polite. There was also a lovely happy birthday message on my sons drink for him when the delivery arrived.. Excellent service. Thankyou so much for Making my sons night.

They also allow online ordering for collection or delivery. I missed my favourite chippy when they were closed but there has been no issue in making up for it since their remodelling. Smashing food and lovely staff.

ordered two kababs and a bag of chips the kababs was that small it would off not been enough for a kid the donor meat was in chunks and over cooked the chicken meat what chicken meat the was very little the chips was of a very poor stdit was all of a poor std none of this food was any good i threw it all away. this cost me £16 and a few pence i will not buy from there again i use this chippy before it was rebuilt and they have gone down hill and prices have gone up and portons have been reduced this chippy was the best in the town but i would say its now the worst. it has lost its heart what a real shame :(

Placed an order for Pie and a portion of chips, kebab and chips and a saveloy. After a long wait that I wasn’t informed about when ordering this FAST food we got home to find there was no portion of chips. I even asked the girl serving if she had put salt and vinegar on the other chips and she said yes. It gets worse... The saveloy and pie were stone cold and the pie felt like it had come straight out the fridge. The kebab meat was also disgusting and missing mint sauce. When we went back to tell them about the issue we were confronted with very rude staff. They insisted that the pie had been warmed and it had been in the fridge.. When returning home for a second time I found the saveloy had split and the chips were overcooked. This place is obviously not following the correct procedure on heating food and definitely not doing temperature checks. Avoid!

Came in today 9/3/20 excellent piping hot food , had mini fish chips . Quality of fish + chips outstanding , great value for money also . My parents had the same meal , and said its the best fish chips they have had in a long time . 10/10 :)

Lovely fresh fish cooked while you wait lovely friendly people and it's you can see why it's got a 5 star.

We placed an order on line quick and easy, we were given a time to collect. The food was all wrapped up nicely to keep it warm, got the food home lovely and hot and nothing missing off the order. Will definitely order again and loved the ordering on line and then the just collecting scenario. Staff lovely and friendly too.

The service is good and the food is excellent with a wide range of options to choose from. The opening hours are also very user friendly.

I know it’s only a chip shop but it isn’t! It’s the Chip Shop in the area and a sit down restaurant that has super food, excellent friendly staff and some good decent offer! Plus a choice to enjoy. Mid afternoon, early tea is such good value, try it if your in the area. As they say “cheap as chips”, sorry couldn’t help that😄.
