Really nice little coffee with a friendly welcome. We had a really nice flat white. The flat white was really well made with a distinctive espresso flavour and plenty of frothed foam. The waiter was very polite and brought us an apricot tart, 4 little scones with clotted cream and raspberries jam. All were fresh and delicious! Try this nice little gem near Kingston-upon-Thames for a cream tea, you will not regret it!

I have visited The French Tarte numerous times over the last 5 years. The food and service has always been exceptional, however, this morning it has to be said that the food was disappointing. The full English was miniscule my partners breakfast was so so. All in all for £27. 50 it was not good value.

Afternoon Tea at the French Tarte was perfect. A great selection of out of the ordinary savouries and delicious cakes, beautifully presented. Warm homemade raspberry scones with clotted cream and raspberry jam too. We may not have been able to eat everything there but cakes were boxed up for us to take home. This place is delightful. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the food is delicious. Nothing was too much trouble for this establishment. Having pre-booked afternoon tea for four and informing them that there were no special dietary requirements, one of our party of four informed me at the table she was vegetarian. The waiter sprung into action and delivered extra vegetarian savouries. All done with a smile and good grace. Thank you for making our experience so lovely.

A pretend French patisserie which in France will be low quality. The price is very expensive for the quality. They got an order to Tea wrong. They brought the coffee and left the cake till later. I go every few weeks. For a while I stopped as the service was so painful - the last few months it’s improved. Sadly today, it was back to what seems to be the norm. Three staff behind the counter in a pretty empty cafe / shop. Inattentive, finally took my order. A couple of other people (regulars) came in and ordered. They received their coffee first. I eventually got mine. It was the wrong order - but the (rude) tone of the manager implied I hadn’t actually ordered what I want. I eventually got my coffee. No apology or thanks. I gave up counting at 8 minutes. There were three customers and two sitting. Seriously - Please stop taking your customers for granted - just because we’re not regular, doesn’t mean we don’t want to support a local business. I know you’re not Starbucks but have some consideration and get your act together.

My husband and I visited the Farmers Market on Maple Road this morning. We planned to have breakfast at the French Tarte. We arrived at 08:30 to discover opening was not until 09:00, our oversight. However, we decided to wait outside being first in the queue. Upon opening we sat at a table and ordered 2 Flat Whites whilst we browsed over the menu. A large family were served with drinks, croissants etc whilst we were left waiting. When we enquired where our coffees were, we were told they were coming. Unfortunately another table were served. Once again we asked for our coffee and said we were unable to wait any longer, our coffees suddenly appeared. Needless to say, we opted not to order breakfast. We have visited mostly the French Table on many occasions even for breakfast on market days, we were never treated like this. The only positive was the coffee was excellent.

I have been to the French tarte many times and been very pleased. The last time service was slow but okay. This week we popped in on Saturday and I was appalled by the disgusting Greek salad I was served. The place was busy and we were found a table with the proviso that it was reserved from 2pm which wasn't a problem. We visited today for afternoon tea as it's my mum's birthday. At the time of booking I requested one tea without cheese or egg. When asked the reason for the visit I explained that it was a birthday and was asked my mum's name. Some sort of surprise might be afoot, I thought. When we arrived the place was deserted - only the staff members were there. We were given our tea - my dietary request was ignored but, to be fair, I didn't bring this to the attention of the waitress. The food was incredibly disappointing - fussy and, to us, generally unappealing. We ate what we could and awaited the warm scones promised as a finale. The three members of staff failed to notice that we had finished for some time - they were too busy chatting. The clincher was when one of them left the conversation and proceeded to mop the floor!! This was at 4pm and the place wasn't due to close for an hour. It was so off-putting that we gave up waiting for the scones (although we were offered the chance to take them home but even these didn't look very nice). We will not be visiting again!

My family and i had Mother's day afternoon tea at the French Tarte in Surbiton this afternoon. We had had one last year at Teddington but decided to try this on the actual day. The selection of warm savouries were very original and full of flavour. The raspberry scones despite not being warmed were very nice and the french pastries were plentiful and I brought them home with me in a box. The selection of teas and tisanes were lovely and the opportunity to have a glass of chilled Muscat as well as Champagne was a lovely touch and one which I enjoyed. I love the idea of The French Tarte and always look forward to going - the location and the cakes/coffee are lovely however time and time again the service - unfriendly, abrupt, not welcoming let it down. I keep meaning to write a review as I just wish the staff would realise that when customers walk in the door it should be a nice experience for them and perhaps a cheery hello or even an acknowledgment would change the experience. The service in the French Table (restaurant next door) couldn't be more different - they are welcoming and friendly and polite so it is sad and disappointing that the staff in the French Tarte are lacking in customer service. First time at the French Tarte, taken for a belated birthday treat for the set afternoon tea. Booking is required, and this tea is served from 1.00 till 3.00. And what a tea it was. First a choice from at least ten loose leaf teas, replenished during the service.I chose a delicious ( if rather predictable of me ) Assam, but others in the party opted for the White Monkey which they were particularly impressed with. Then a spectacular tray of savoury and sweet offerings. Each of us had five savouries including tasters of croque monsieur, a delicate pastry case filled with roasted vegetables and soft cheese on walnut bread. And five sweets including a glorious coconut confection, raspberry delight with a touch of gold leaf and a grapefruit posset. Each was extremely tasty, and of a sensible size. Topped off with a scone, cream and jam each, served in a dish with " Happy Birthday" handwritten in chocolate sauce. Friendly and attentive service. A big hit all round. We left replete and happy, and planning out next visit.

I regularly pop into TFT for take aways, but each time swear never to go again! Painfully slow service - invariably three people behind the counter, with only one empowered to do anything! It has improved lately - but while the ladies serving are always pleasant and polite (as you'd expect) - it doesn't seem to come naturally to the male servers who are quick to insist the customer is wrong if they've misheard the order and so on. I honestly don't think it's intentional, the produce is beautiful, coffee average - but I think TFT is in danger of resting on its laurels! Local people like supporting local businesses. PleAse don't take the Mickey and just sharpen up your customer service!

Could not that be done out of customer hours? Service was good and food was lovely but then we could smell cooking oil smells from the kitchen. Not pleasant and clothes smelt all afternoon. Think a table near us had some chips so probably the fryer oil but it really ruined the end of our lunch. Disappointed.

Presentation of the cakes looked lovely and enjoyable coffee too.Although, if theres afternoon tea booked inside then its hard to get seating as it's small!Had to sit outside in the end, and it was a bit chilly but the sun was shining so it worked out well and the cakes were worth it

I frequent the French Tarte on a regular basis, and find it really strange that a cafe that prides itself on its breads, cakes and pastries continues to run out of bread and pastries by 2pm on a Sunday when it's busy. The strange thing is, the front of the shop still had loads of bread available and was told I would need to buy a full loaf for my sandwich, and I could take what's left of the loaf home.I find this is a little poor from a cafe of this quality and can only hope this gets resolved.

We met for coffee with friends and then ended up staying for lunch. It is a small venue but perfectly formed. Very child friendly with a toilet with baby changing and even spare nappies for parent to use which is a nice touch. Baguettes were fresh and delicious and the cakes are masterpieces! Would recommend for a coffee and cake catch up.

My mama got me a birthday cake from Bonne Bouche. I'm not a big fan of cake but this cake was absolutely beautiful I've come back three times to the fridge. God bless
