Nice place friendly staff food is good

Ok if your soo desperate for a cheap beer . No atmosphere , food stupidly expensive for what you get and the service is the slowest ever .

El lugar estaba tan oscuro que podía ver a mis amigos entrar. Muy ruidoso con la charla, no podía oír una conversación en nuestra mesa. Pedí comida que para ser justos estaba bien, excepto la olla más pequeña de col nunca. No volvería a ir. Claramente está lleno de habituales pero un poco áspero para ser honesto .. No podía mantener una conversación como no podía oír.

Excelentes cucharas . más grande de lo que parece desde el exterior con una trampa solar de un jardín trasero . tenía un gran desayuno personal amable precios baratos no puede superar allí bebidas calientes ilimitadas 😍

Just walked out the pub as got I completely ignored at the bar for 10 minutes whilst serving others as soon as they come up. Terrible service! 😡

Popular Wetherspoon with a good atmosphere. It's a little bit dark in some of the areas which isn't great if you are eating. Food we had was great and cooked well.

Just walked out the pub as stood at the bar waiting to be served, waited whilst people came and went to the bar, could see two staff were on table serving orders which I have no issue with, girl with glasses came in front of me and I asked if I would be served as others who came to bar after were being served whilst I was stood there, got told they were there before me which I questioned as one bloke waved to me I no who came in afterwards, anyway told I was shouting which I said I certainly was not she responded she was not arguing and walked away. Another lady came who despite my frustration clearly looked to excuse my version as being busy, I no the place well it was far from busy, started to order but felt the demeanor of the lady now serving me as being not happy because I dare call out poor customer service, my partner came in and I just decided atmosphere i felt towards me meant i needed to go in the brickyard on the corner instead, what a difference, take note about customer service Freeman you could learn something, this post won't make any difference but I feel better for telling the truth, hey Freeman staff learn these words" sorry I did not see you there and I will come back and serve you when I've finished serving this gentleman" I would have responded with no worries it happens....... some customer service training me be needed here of how you treat customers rather than looking to blame the custome.,To top it off two people appoligised as I left as they thought i was already being served otherwise they would have pointed out i was already waiting, thats despite the bar lady telling me I got there after them indicating I was lying, check your cameras. Thank god usually the staff are great in there and most of the staff are not as defensive if wrong or a genuine mistake happens, an apology and understanding goes a long way and heads off little mistakes in the bud.

Did not have any food, well spoons is for cheap drinks, but it's ok but never has the ambience of other pubs in the area. So we are giving it a miss for a while thanks M&J

This was not the usual early doors Wetherspoons experience I was expecting. The clientele were different and the pub was quite busy , the staff were attentive and the pub was very clean especially the toilets , no signs of vandalism or graffiti. The service at the bar was quick and polite and the Guinness tasted good and was poured properly. We sat outside at the front as it was a nice day and during our 3 hour stay our table was regularly checked for empty glasses . We chose not to eat but there was plenty of people doing so so that would suggest the food being served was good . The overall experience was very good and a Wetherspoons I would definitely return to

Was going to go in but nowhere to park the car so went to the garden centre instead

Nice and decent wetherspoon in Carlton. The service was fast and good. You can get the reception even if you go in to the back part of the pub. Plenty of foods that you can choose. I was just surprised how fast they brought out our pints. The foods were amazing, my chicken was nice and tender, the Tikka masala was also tasty. Highly recommended place.

The manager is so horrible and rude so Arrogant and don’t care about customers I don’t recommend going to this spoons

Had the mixed grill and can honestly say it was cooked to perfection like somebody actually enjoys cooking which unfortunately is not my experience in most pubs now. I will return to this one in the future.

The thing with Spoons is if you've got someone cooking your food who actually cares...it's brilliant. It's very easy to tell. TBH, I've never left unhappy. 👍🏼

Had a Sharwama wrap, which was stone cold. Is it supposed to be cold? Ice Cream with Shortbread and Caramel sauce was nice.

The free man is a wonderful place excellent management excellent customer service from the team. The food preparation is excellent and I have quality cooked food made to perfection by the chefs. I thank everyone at this pub for the exceptional service. Excellently recommend 👌.

You can't beat a Wetherspoons breakfast. Place is busy but always clean.

Basically I paid for a pizza included the soft drink, but I did not get any drink. I told the staff later there is no option to choose my drink when I checked out in the website , and I have been told that I won’t get any drink due to the order is made. And in the page , it did not state clearly it would have to be ordered separately , not like other wrap deals to choose drink automatically. Honestly, I thought there is something in the system. Although I raised my concern to the staff, I feel unheard unfortunately.

Food is great although sometimes food is a bit cold but not ridiculous and food arrives quite fast. Friendly staff and clean tables/dishes and glasses quickly. Toilet and everything was very clean with nice historical facts and pictures around the pub about carlton. Football or news always on to keep up to date.

For some reason, weatherspoons pubs like to have reduced lighting, which makes it awkward to read the menu, let alone eat the food.

Ordered a mix grill asked for the meat to be cooked well done the steak was was not cooked at all

Very good pub for taking the family to, my young daughter loves the place mainly due to the food ! It's a shame they have stopped doing the Sunday roast now. The place is still well worth a visit even if you are not eating. Can recommend the fish and chips .. comes with a drink all in for 10 quid!

Went to Nottingham on a shopping jaunt and decided to frequent the Free Man before the day got off to a proper start. It's always jarring when you're off to Wetherspoons when you realise you've drawn the short straw and you're venturing in to a building that looks like the love child of a recent love union between a Doctor's surgery, a job centre and a long since abandoned Police station. But here we were, welcome to The Free Man. Inside and the decor matched the outer garments, flaky paint and tacky carpets. It was just you know, just so. A Nottingham suburb pub that just needed grabbing by the scruff of the neck and given a good shake. Could and should be so much better.

So it's a Wetherspoons but one of the better ones . I stopped eating breakfast at wetherspoons as the one we were using the food was coming out Luke warm . So I stopped going but it was my birthday and my friends paid for me to have breakfast and got to say this one in Carlton the food actually came out hot and the toast was as well. And for what you pay it definitely worth it . This wetherspoons may of won me back by just doing it right. I am a chef so my expectations as rnt high but I do expect the food to be cooked and hot and this one ticked both those boxes.

Decor looking a bit dated and quite dark, but good range of food and plenty of vegetarian options. Unfortunately the coffee machine was out of milk, I notified a member of staff who looked and walked away. 5 mins later another punter came for coffee and the staff member magically appeared with milk, still not working, no apology, my food had arrived and was going cold. Another staff member eventually turned up to take a look and still no apology, pressed some buttons and said "when it's done that it will be fine". Cold lunch, not good service. UPDATE much better service now must have had an off day

Had breakfast here this morning (Saturday 20/01/24) and was well satisfied. I had a large breakfast and my partner had eggs benidict and agreed it was one of the best cooked breakfast we have had in a weathspoons pub and with excelent service we will be coming back here again.

I have visited Carlton weather-spoons a few times recently and was greatly impressed by a member of staff named carolina, she actually put a smile on my face every visit by reading my mind and acting on my thoughts with out me asking. When I spoke to her she so polite and happy to go over and beyond. This member of a team is hard to come by and I just wanted her hard work to be recognised

Been here a couple of times, but on this occasion . Rated poor only on disabled toilet being locked was told to ask for key but no signage . No access for first floor without using steep staircase.. on the whole disappointing

Had sunday breakfast. Very nice with unlimited coffee. I actually had a pint of little John at 99p. A bit naughty of me with breakfast but very enjoyable

local pub with Wetherspoon prices (lower prices) - excellent value for money. We particularly like this pub because the staff is nice and welcoming. good to have a good time with couple or just with friends. recommend definitely

Happy and helpful staff. Lighting levels were very low for a lunchtime. Had a lovely cuppa tea.

Friendly staff, better than adequate food, decent "community" atmosphere. You kind of expect all Wetherspoons to be the same, but they really aren't... And this one is definitely on the better end of the spectrum. The one thing they have in their favour: the staff. They are competent, friendly and considerate. If I could, I'd knock half a star off for the fact that smokers congregate round the entrance door (despite the prominent no smoking signs!), so it can be a bit of a nicotine binge to get into the place at times. I wish they'd crack down on that!11

The service off the lady I can only assume was a manager was what I would say was rude in a polite way and the food was shocking poached eggs was more like hard boiled egg I was very disappointed having a birthday breakfast there

I had a really nice breakfast and a couple of drinks with my son. Service was spot on,food spot on, drinks spot on! Pricing? Well I wish it was Monday club every day: ) nice work 👍

Very friendly staff and excellent food!

I generally like Wetherspoons and having one open close to me at an out of town location was an unexpected but pleasant surprise. I read that Covid cost the business a fortune but it has hopefully turned that corner and seems to be getting back on track. Paying for a round of drinks in a more traditional pub made me realise how lucky we are to have Wetherspoons as an option and long may that continue

I'm a regular customer of Wetherspoons, but after an ongoing decline in food quality, I will be eating elsewhere. Over recent times, I've not been happy with the food quality. On Saturday, food came out undercooked with inedible eggs. Sent it back & and sadly, the meal came back just as poorly cooked as before. Up your game Wetherspoons!

So disappointed - been going here for many years, but the last several meals that I have ordered have not been up to standard. I ordered the Gammon which I requested to be cooked well done, when it arrived it was almost raw, with 2 eggs stuck together which were hard (no attention to arrange the food on the plate to look appealing.) I had to send it back, when it arrived back out, the gammon had been cooked, however my partner took one look at his and decided that he did not want it, the eggs were rock hard and not edible. You would have thought that the kitchen would have made sure that they got it right knowing that they were having to re-do it. The prices keep going up and up, but the quality of the meat is sometimes hit and miss, along with the cooking and presentation. The staff however were wonderful and issued us with a full refund. My problem now is finding somewhere new to eat as I no longer trust Spoons.

Unfortunately drinks wanted were not available, place seemed run down, nothing like our usual wetherspoons.

I came in today with my friend, the staff was run of there feet ,but was still very friendly and prossional, was a but loud but otherwise a fantastic time

You can't give a wetherspoons 5 stars, no music or anything. But it does get a 4 stars for good outdoor seating and decently priced beer!

Standard Spoons, with friendly staff, prompt service. Place was clean and tables were not crowded together. Several side areas for a quieter experience. This visit, my breakfast came before everyone else's, but that was their fault for not placing their orders when the bar wasn't busy 😂 Definitely not the staff's fault 😘

We only popped in to use the loo. If it is like other Wetherspoons then the food will be tasty and responsible priced. Very popular when we visited.

Worst ever ! Chips tasted like been reheated, and very little fish inside the batter☹️

Visited on a weekday afternoon so no idea what it's like at night or on weekends. Got very much a 'city vibe' here, which is to be expected given its proximity to Nottingham. A small selection of good guest ales but mostly a lager and cocktail venue and an air of people just passing through before hitting the bars of the metropolis.

Friendly and helpful staff, good food and great coffee. I always enjoy the atmosphere and meet up with friends there.

40 minute wait for food is unacceptable - please get a chef who can cook quicker, or at least have a sign on the door telling people that it will be that long. Won't be returning here.

Good atmosphere, good beer and cheap

A JD Wetherspoons pub offering everything you would expect from this pub chain. I like the venue it is well furnished, well located for the busy shopping area on Carlton Hill. A great selection of beers, lagers and every other drink you may want. The bar food offers great VFM and the staff are very pleasant, you can’t go far wrong by visiting this pub 👍
