Proper traditional pub.Cosy atmosphere.Very friendly landlady. Proper old fashioned pub food and all sorts of extra treats. Plus good beer and cider.Homemade jam and chutney for sale.Loved the ole juke box with tunes that covered the 7 decades of my life. Pleasant outdoor seating. Wonderful experience in middle of nowhere.

Lovely little hideaway, pleasant and helpful staff, food... delicious! This pub, tucked away in a remote spot of Strines/New Mills is where my mum and dad used to visit in their younger days. Dad sat and mused about happy times they spent together, sitting at the window table, chatting with friends and drinking, by the little roaring fire and remembers the welcoming atmosphere at the time. It certainly sounds like nothing has changed at all. A happy mix of loyal local folk and visiting guests arrive to either sit and chat or dine and drink at the tables on the raised outside area alongside the tiny road that leads to the car park at the back.

only just 1 mile walk on tarmac quiet lane from New Mills, the Fox has a big history in its walls and a lively terrace for drinking outside in nicer weather. A short steep path down/up to/from Strines Station connects it to the bus route between New Mills and Stockport as well.

At the end of the road to nowhere, lies a small unassuming pub ( not the Slaughtered Lamb). On the night I visited, it all started off quite nice and quiet with one lad at the bar chatting away to Jack ( the barman) and another lady. I sat with my friend, catching up on times. It got more interesting as a group of lads came in. All of them were super nice and chatty. I even managed to rope one into singing in the pub as a penalty for dropping a glass. All in all I had rather a nice evening and I even managed to survive the Arctic tundra that is the toilets. You could say I rose to the challenge, however I shrunk as soon as I walked in. The bar staff were nice and the people that were there were nice. I may wait for the warm weather before my next visit though.

Hadn't planned to stop but after a decent walk past New Mills golf club & along various public footpaths we arrived in Broad bottom about 1.15pm so decided to stop & have something to eat & a drink. Three fishing sandwich, chips, coleslaw and salad meals, one jacket potato with tuna, mayo and cheese...as it wasn't that chilly we decided to eat outside (the landlord said if we were too cold just come inside...log fire burning). Food was freshly cooked, hot, tasty and lots of it. Couple of pints of Strongbow, a pint of IPA and a bottle of zero alcohol beer. Really welcome break to the walk and after we finished we were ready to hit the road again. Great pit stop, highly recommend it to you if in the area...
