This is a lovely pub. Great garden and a lovely forest setting. It’s clean and the staff are warm and friendly. I’d say for value for money it’s perhaps just the wrong side of the balance. Food is nicely presented and it is tasty but the menu is fairly limited and prices are on the high side. A pint of cider is £6.60+, which seems a lot. I’m sure it’s on par with other local eateries but it feels expensive. Don’t get me wrong, I’d recommend it to others and would gladly return. It has a nice atmosphere and inside is cosy and welcoming.

We went with friends for a combined birthday meal. Good atmosphere, tasty food, I had olives, flowerpot bread, olive oil and balsamic vinegar as a starter, salmon with asparagus, new potatoes, crab and crème fraiche which were all nicely cooked. My friends also enjoyed their meals, Portobello Mushroom Burger, Ham Hock and Haddock and Chips. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. I thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

We love going to the Foresters, the staff are super friendly and service is good. We had the brisket sharing board which was nice, but naked slaw with no mayo is a little tricky to move from the board to the plate. Also, please consider getting some full fat mayo as the light stuff isn't very nice. Thank you 😍

A wonderful place for a Sunday roast with impeccable service and a great atmosphere. We visited with our granddaughter and our golden retriever. It was my birthday and we were shown to the table that I had requested when I booked. The staff were really attentive and asked if we had any allergies. One of the party had Coeliac disease which we specified. We asked for the allergen menu, which took a little while to find but we were pleased with the choice. My husband had mouth cancer a few years ago and has been left with severe eating issues, however we have been a number of times and each time when tweaks were requested to the meal they were all very graciously accommodated. All of the meals were fantastic, the gluten free meal came out separately and on a different coloured plate which was great to see. As ever the staff were really attentive and super polite. We had a great evening. Thank you so much - we'll be back soon. Jane Carpenter

Title: Magical Christmas Dinner at The Foresters! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recently had the joy of celebrating Christmas dinner at The Foresters, and it was truly an enchanting experience! From the moment we stepped inside, the festive decor created a warm and inviting atmosphere that instantly put us in the holiday spirit. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that our evening was perfect. Their genuine enthusiasm and attentiveness made us feel like cherished guests. We were promptly seated at a beautifully set table adorned with elegant holiday touches, making the ambiance even more delightful. Now, let’s talk about the food! The Christmas dinner menu was a feast for the senses. The star of the show was the succulent roast turkey, perfectly seasoned and accompanied by mouthwatering sides like buttery mashed potatoes, savory stuffing, and vibrant roasted vegetables. Every dish was crafted with care and highlighted the best of seasonal flavors. And the desserts? Our meal concluded with a stunning Christmas pudding, rich and aromatic, served with brandy sauce that was simply divine. It was the perfect sweet ending to an incredible meal. To complement the feast, the drink selection featured a wonderful array of festive cocktails and wines, perfectly curated to enhance the dining experience. Overall, The Foresters surpassed all expectations for our Christmas dinner. The combination of delicious food, welcoming service, and beautiful ambiance made for a magical evening that we will cherish for years to come. I can't recommend this spot highly enough for anyone looking to create festive memories!

Tomahawk sharer was fabulous, done just as well asked, was enough for my wife and I plus my daughter (12) with a side of sweet potato fries. Only reason for 4 as opposed to 5 stars and I'm being picky.. the Apple and Rhubarb crumble came with red or black currants in a sizeable quantity that wasn't advertised on the menu which was disappointing being my favourite desert. But the crumble topping was great as was the apple once I'd removed all the currants. Still had a lovely meal all round though. Staff were excellent as always 🙏

This is the second time we’ve had a meal at the Foresters and unfortunately it was not as good as the first time. We had to wait over an hour for the first (main) course. Our table was booked for the 6pm slot and we were the last to leave. A member of staff cleaned other tables around us and we got the impression the staff just wanted us to leave. It was Mother’s Day and if the pub management want to close earlier then fair enough but don’t have a 6pm dining slot and take ages to serve the first course. One of us had icecream and the portion was ridiculously small for the cost - again disappointing. Apart from that, the food itself was good.

I am a regular here and love it-normally-I like the staff and always give the full tip. However I purchased drinks in the bar beforehand-my usual Pornstar Martini (which I know everywhere else is served with a shot of Prosecco on the side) but never here. This time I was given Prosecco and I explained that I had never ever been given this with it before at this pub- a regular staff member-who has in fact made the drink for me several times before(with no prosecco). said 'oh yes the prosecco cleanses the palette (I know all this as have them regularly) but again I said I'd never been given it here and I've been coming for years. -there was no surprise or apology whatsoever from the 2 bar staff- one just said - "All depends who is behind the bar". Charming!! I felt I was so un-important and did not count-I am an old-aged pensioner and have worked in customer-service positions all my life-first thing is to apologise -then make sure some training takes place so that this does not happen again. Last time I came I was given a half-glass of pornstar martini (no prosecco as usual) but as the chap was new I said nothing-but now this is not acceptable. The waitresses with the food were fine but I spend a lot of money here and make a point of being friendly to the staff and treat them as I like to be treated myself. I'm soooo upset about the attitude and the lack of knowing how to make drinks plus all the years I have been mis-sold!! I expect feedback please.

We’ve eaten at the Foresters several times recently and think the carvery excellent value for money, with the meat particularly being well cooked and of high quality. Unfortunately the last two times we’ve dined with you the roast potatoes have been inedible. Last time they were burnt and yesterday they were so tough and leathery that even a knife wouldn’t cut into them. Most of our party left them on the plate and I did mention it to our waitress at the time. We all had coffee at the end of our meal and, whilst the Americanos were fine, the flat whites were lukewarm. Rather disappointing and such a shame as we’ve recommended your Sunday carvery to many of out friends.

We waited on arrival at the check in desk and were completely ignored for 10 minutes. One waitress said she would go and get someone, eventually came back herself and managed to seat us. Another 10 minute wait for drinks (2 cokes). We asked if we could order food as well at that time as if we hadn't I don't think we would have been asked for ages. Order taken - 2 appetisers , 2 mains. I tried to order two different things and neither were available, left with only one option. We should have been told this when initially given the menus. We were then left for another half hour at which time I had to go and find someone and ask when we could expect the food. It was actually all ready (I'm not sure how long it had been sitting there), but that meant the appetisers came out at the same time as the main courses which is not really acceptable. We spoke to someone who said he would arrange for the appetisers to be taken off the bill (this was done when we paid). The food was fine, the service was chaotic at best, and bookings should be limited if they can't be managed. We had zero service for half an hour and were ignored on entering the restaurant. It seemed that either all the waitresses were clearing and moving tables, at one point 3 of them at one table, and yet nobody could come over to check if we were ok, they were avoiding eye contact completely. It is part of customer service to make sure that expectations are managed, at no point were we informed that there would be an extensive delay and actually the food was ready for ages - why are staff not going into the kitchen to check? Disappointing at best especially since the food was fine, understand being busy but not prepared to be ignored. I have to score a 2 for this reason.

We had a really disappointing Christmas day meal. Second year we went and it took a big step backwards. Lacked some of the Christmas trimmings you'd expect. Service was a real let down, especially when my father accidentally spilt his beer. While I was in the queue for the carvery I heard some upsetting words said about him by a member of staff that if it wasn't Christmas day and wanting to keep the day special for my family I would have made a point of confronting him about his comments. Overall it wasn't great and having emailed them directly to answer some of my concerns with the experience I've not got a response so I'll put my honest review here. If they want to charge £90 per person, they need to give a great experience. We didn't get that and want to know what they're going to do to address the points I made in an email to them.

It was good that the normal menu was also available as a couple of people are not fans of roast dinner and they were able to choose something they liked off the normal menu. Also, for a decent roast the price was very reasonable compared to other places locally we had considered booking before choosing The Foresters. The pub had a warm atmosphere and the staff were very good.

Excellent food, service service time. We were in no rush to order our food but this didn't seem to matter. The waitress was so patient with us. Once the food was ordered we didn't have to wait long before it was served to us. Considering how busy the restaurant was this was extremely good.

Probably the best Sunday carvery I've had. The roast beef was pink and tender, the pork was lovely and moist. I've avoided carveries for quite a while, as often with carvery meats they're dry as a bone, but not here. Only a minor point, but initially the service was a little on the slow side, particularly for drinks, but once we had an assigned waitress she looked after us well and was very attentive.

Very disappointed with my order this evening. There was a reason I specified a later time. As a result the quality was impacted, but everything ended up being cold at the time we could all eat. If you were unable to deliver at the time specified, then you should have contacted me. For the money paid not good enough at all!!

Title: A Delightful Evening at the Chequers Inn 🌊✨ I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Chequers Inn, and it was an experience to remember! From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the charming atmosphere and stunning seaside views. But what truly stole the show was the fantastic seafood! The menu boasts an impressive selection, and every dish we tried was a masterpiece. The fresh catch of the day was cooked to perfection, with flavors that danced on the palate. The prawn starters were succulent and bursting with flavor, while the seafood platter was a feast for both the eyes and the stomach—an absolute must-try! A special mention to our waiter, Harry, who elevated our dining experience even further. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the menu. Harry provided excellent recommendations and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. His warm demeanor and professional service added a personal touch that made us feel right at home. Overall, if you're a seafood lover, the Chequers Inn is not to be missed! With delectable dishes and wonderful service, it is a true gem by the sea. I can't wait to return! 🌟👗🍽️
