Visited this bakery today, it slightly concerns me that the servers don't wear gloves, they handled the cooked meat to put on the slicer and then went straight to the bakery counter and handled an Eccles cake, without washing their hands, I don't think that's good practice, I also think that tongs could be used to put the bakery goods into bags.

Wow....what a gem of a shop. Find this place and forget everywhere else when visiting Hornsea. Great value prices and very high quality unique products. Will definitely be putting this shop on our "Must Visit Again" list.

This shop is an absolute gem, baking a wide range of sweet and savoury products in house. Particularly good are their sausage rolls, deep filled quiches, and ham. I go back again and again for the ham, as it's crumbly, fine cut, and deeply flavourful. It's expensive, but you don't need to cram your sandwiches like you do with ham from packets, so it's actually very good value. Everything I've tried from here is at least good, usually excellent, and they make great sandwiches if you're putting together an impromptu picnic.

All pies and sausage rolls are made at the shop and are delicious and value for money... Eccles cakes are yummy too. I visit the shop regularly and have never been disappointed.

On a recent visit we noticed The food Shop thought we'd have a look, the pies looked good and it was busy, always a good sign, so chose a large steak pie, and they then asked " would I like to have the gravy" never heard that before, but OH YES PLEASE! It was a really lovely pie, and the gravy for a Yorkshire lad and lass all I can say is .............devine

We had the Stilton and broccoli quiche, pork pie and the salad. It was delicious. My husband did say the cheese coleslaw was too cheesy it was a bit strong but still tasty. It shuts at 16.00hrs not 17.00hrs in winter not as described on opening hours.

What a little gem! The Food Shop in Hornsea sells the best pork pies in the land. You can really taste they are home-made. The staff are friendly and will cater to your requirements - I asked if I could order a jelly-free pork pie and of course they said yes - my son was delighted. All of their cold cuts are home-cooked and exceptionally tasty - and to top if off, they serve with a smile. It is up towards the top of town and is really worth a visit. I also ordered a hamper for a present and it was 100% worth it. Would recommend.

We visit hornsea every year and were upset when we thought the shop had closed, but to our joy they had moved to a new premesis further up the road. Although the shop is smaller they still offer all the excellent produce they did before. Quiches to die for and the best pork pies we have ever eaten! Very friendly and helpful staff. p.s. the meat is all home cooked and our little girl will not let us leave without buying some "hornsea ham"!, high praise indeed. We will be back in the Summer.
