This is no longer the Fisherman's Wife. It would be great if the people that have taken it over could also serve a variety of locally caught fish.

Only got one star as it wouldn't let me post without one. Also operating as, or previously under a different name too Out of The Blue? Is that because they are getting bad food reviews We had fish and chips from here recently. Overpriced, and absolutely awful. Thanks to you my son now has food poisoning, he has been throwing up, with a bad tummy all of last night and today. He fell ill within half an hour of eating the food. Most of mine went in the bin, because the oil the food was cooked in smelt old. The chips were horrible, they tasted rancid. I have worked in chippies, so i know when oil is fresh. It should not smell like that. The fish was watery, badly filleted, still full of bones, and still had the skin on it. Laziness. Cheap tasting tomato sauce, that was self service, out of a squeezy bottle that everyone is touching, the same for the salt and vinegar shakers. Given that covid is still around. You might want to rethink and provide sachets. I will not be back or recommending anyone have food from this establishment. Our long journey home was awful. Hope the environmental health department see this. Do not recommend to anyone.

So you make your way to the kitchen door to wait for your order as instructed. There's a bench (outdoors) with one other person on there. It is a long bench, over 2 metre - and because you've been on your feet all day and getting a blister you sit down, observing social distancing as we're not out of the pandemic yet. Turns out the other person on the bench scrolling on his phone was the owner. He grumpily gets up, stubs out his fag and mutters something about me having to be more COVID friendly. Tells me to get on my feet, then picks up the bench and places it vertically against the wall. Then barges through, now completely ignoring any 2 metre guidelines himself. Comes back to the kitchen 5 minutes later and starts having a go at his staff. Then throws some fish at the seagulls (despite all the "DO NOT FEED THE SEAGULLS" signs all over town). Ten minutes later, he sits on the bench outside at the OTHER side of the wall once again without himself observing social distancing rather than putting his own precious bench back in place. Won't be coming back while I remember this rather poor excuse for a human being. What an absolute piece of hypocrite garbage, the type that thinks rules only apply to others.

Stayed in Lyme Regis end of July. We visited the Fisherman’s wife on five of the nights we stayed. Fish and chips, scampi and chips, whitebait and chips, scallops and chips were all tried on the visits. Good cooked to order. Chips well cooked, good portions. Full chips no crinkly scraps. Good selection of condiments , tartare sauce, tomato, vinegar and salt sachets. Large queues develop at peak times. Be aware at night the owner doesn’t stay open if demand from public has waned. If your visiting for the day you can preorder and best queues but your food will only be cooked ahead of the queue when you appear at the door. Tried other vendors before we were tempted by the scallops , quality at Fisherman’s wife , compared to Lyme Fish Bar was way above standard . The Lyme Bar food in town was not cooked to order with cooked fish stacked on the hot plate. Got to know Phillip the proprietor over the week and is extremely knowable in the production of his menu. He takes a pride in the finished product, food is of a very high standard.

These were the best scallops I have tasted. My wife enjoyed the scampi. Must have waited for 40 minutes before we received our food. There appeared to be only one person working behind the counter, under the circumstances he did a good job. Next time we’re in Lyme Regis I’d go here again. The only negative was the long wait. I think they were short staffed on the day we visited.

After reading reviews on here my family and I decided to have "proper seaside " fish & chips, we walked straight passed several delicious smelling establishments to try what we thought would be the best! Unfortunately what we got was "Alright " they had the slowest of service but the covid 19 pandemic was probably too blame for that . The fish was nice in fact very nice the major issue and it is in my/our book a real problem was the chips! They were NOT chip shop chips they were......frozen! In fact I've honestly had better oven chips and when I visit the seaside I expect proper fish and chips as I rarely have fish and chips at home! I hate to leave anything less than positive but I would avoid this particular place if like my family and I you are looking for a traditional seaside treat

Came here after reading the reviews saying there were gluten free options and was very happy. The chips are amazing, and the pan fried fish was perfectly cooked. The portions were very big so you won't be hungry (whicu is a nice surprise with gluten free food as the portions are normally smaller), the price was very reasonable, especially for how much good we got, and it tasted delicious. Visited this fish and chips outlet on Monday 3rd of September at around 4pm. It was in a quiet period. Firstly I asked if the fish was freshly cooked. The flier said “we cook to order”, which I took to mean that I order and he then cooks it.I ordered a large haddock and a piece of cod, both with chips. £9.00 for the haddock and chips and £8.00 for the cod and chips; expensive for a takeaway. When the order was served (in a lidded box) I returned to the car and opened the boxes, firstly the two pieces of fish were different colours. The cod was darker than the haddock and the children ate bits of it. It was dry and tough to eat. I tried a bit. So, the cod had been re-fried. Similarly with the chips, not hot - obviously flash fried again. The haddock was freshly cooked but with crappy chips.I won’t use this hippie again and if you query why I didn’t take the order back, it was because my parking had just expired and the car park attended was wandering about.

Portion sizes were fantastic and pricing really reasonable. Menu is very clear on what is fresh and what isn't. My partner and I shared haddock and chips and whitebait and chips and were absolutely stuffed afterwards! The batter on the haddock was beautifully done - crispy and not greasy at all. My infrequent trips to this favourite place commonly end with Fish and chips, eaten on the Cob.We have tried all the " on the beach " establishments and found all of them to be rather good; usually we seek ones offering an OAP special Fish and chips.Acting on advice from our son, we tried , the one on the corner, opposite the RNLI, now called the Fisherman's Wife. It had closed for a while, quite a while in fact.We were not disappointed either.Pleasant service, food cooked to order and served very hot. I had an OAP special, which can be Haddock or cod, my wife a jumbo sausage, and we shared the chips. It was plenty. My haddock was perfect, I event shared it, my wife finds fish dry, and she gave it the thumbs up. Chips were just right, very hot, tasty. Plus, we had free satchets of sauce with our purchase. And so, to a conclusion, this place is our current favourite!!

I questioned this and had a rude brusque reply. When we eventually received our food, the younger man practically threw it at us and the pickled egg, that my grandson ordered, was put in an open cup - which he promptly dropped, but there was no way I was going to ask for another because they will not get my custom again! I was told we were warned about the wait, but I can categorically state that we were not. I wouldn't have minded so much, but they weren't even tasty. I've eaten better down my local high street. We had battered peppered squid, fishcakes (2 per portion), chicken nuggets (several natural shaped pieces) and chips. The portions are huge and we struggled to eat the 3 portions of chips served with the 3 meals. I worked in an award winning chippy for 3 years and this is one of a few that comes up to standard on the chip front - delicious. The squid was very well cooked and not stringy at all. The chicken nuggets were very tasty and not mashed chicken breast shapes. The fishcakes were tasty but very slightly overcooked.I would highly recommend giving this takeaway a go.The big downside is waiting for your food literally standing on the road by a busy carpark. I sent my partner and kids to bench to wait as was too nervous of traffic. Maybe they could ask council for barrier to make safer for pedestrians but a lot of people stood out some way into road with cars swinging around them - think it is a bug safety issue myself.

We popped over to Lyme Regis in search of fossils and you can't go to the coast without a fish & chip lunch, there are so many places that sell Fish & Chips in these places it's hard to know which is the best, but we did very well with ours. I know I should have chosen the OAP option though as the portions are huge, but at only £7.50 for a massive piece of juicy cod and 5 potatoes worth of chips each it didn't seem too bad that we couldn't finish them. Each order is cooked to order so the fish are not cooked en mass and always very crispy batter, a nice mix of soft, fluffy and crunchy chips. The only downside is they don't do scraps/scrumps/bits/gribbles

The seared scallops were great, but we were surprised at the poor quality of what went with them. The chips were completely tasteless, and the squid, while perhaps decent enough in itself, was enveloped in a thick batter dark enough to taste burnt. We came on a Thursday night, and the grilled fish — which people seem to like most— had been sold out. But the stall really didn’t live up to its billing, and we walked off the experience with a quick tour of the Cobb.

Their prices are pretty good too (in comparison to other Lyme chippies). Wouldn't normally even review a fish and chip shop but I have been really impressed. It's a bit of a hidden gem, just off the main stretch but only a few footsteps further than Lyme Fish Bar (previous favourite) and Herbies (wouldn't recommend). We were fortunate enough to get a bench seat just outside to sit and wait whilst the fish and chips were cooked. The wait was worth it as the fish and chips were cooked to perfection, were hot and tasty. Plenty of sauce on offer but a paper napkin and a wet wipe would have been a nice touch as we struggled to find a tissue to wipe hands. The portion size for £7 was enormous.

We cone to Lyme a lot and always get some nice fish n chips. We've eaten here more than a few times and the first time it was lovely, so we continued to visit. However the huge queues are a magnet for people thinking it's brilliant! But it's not it's just that you have to stand on the street they take absolutely ages. Yes they cook everything to order bit it's over cooked dried up fish no flavour and tiny bits just long tails all skin and burnt over cooked batter. Really rubbish really disappointing we still we visit Lyme multiple times each year but sadly this place is done for us. There are nicer fresher better quality fish shops in Lyme. Please please take notice of these re-occurring reviews and stop creating the fish until it's burnt dark brown batter it's tasteless pointless and will lose you custom and with so much competition that might not always float you.

Stopped by here on Easter Monday and was so impressed by the food we went back today for another load!!! 😂 Food doesn’t leave an after taste or repeat due to the clean vegetable oil and freshness.

How many fish and chip restaurants sell freshly caught hand dived scallops? This place is amazing - the fish was caught fresh on the same day and landed at Lyme, and cooked while we waited. The owner open the take away in rubbish weather and prepared our food really well. Includes lemon and tartare sauce for touch of class

This big double hut building was proving very popular with visitors as it was situated just around the corner from the RNLI Lifeboat.Had nice meal & it was quick service.Fishcake & chips £5.10, fish & chips £7.00 are more than double the cost than at a normally chippy in Birmingham.Just because you have a captive audience doesn’t mean you should rip people off either.

Been here loads of times and the food is fantastic. Unfortunately, even at peak times, they have no concept of planning ahead. They could easily cook some chips and fish, the popular sellers, ahead - given the demand, which is totally warranted given the quality of the food, it wouldn’t be sitting around for any length of time at all. I get the freshly cooked thing, but at peak times, planning ahead would provide a better service without reducing the quality of the food.

Popped in this evening for fish and chips for 2. It was cooked freshly for us and well worth the wait in the cold. Really nice staff too. Situated just behind harbour masters office so slightly off the beaten track. Well worth a visit.

You order & get given a ticket. When your order is ready your number is called. It's not a hard system at all. The food Is cooked to order so be prepared to wait for it. All four of our group enjoyed our food. Decent portion size. Lovely crisp Batter & crispy chips but not too well done. Asked for the Fish to be skinned & it was no problem at all. They have different Fish & seafood on offer each day depending on the catch! Quirky little establishment that we visit again if ever in the region.

My fish fanatic 12 yr old son spotted the hand dived Scallops cooked in Garlic butter, served with chips. Popped by at lunch on way to Monmouth Beach, we were not disappointed! Scallops were succulent, sweet, fantastic and great value! Lovely fish menu too! Great Takeaway and worth the queue!

Next to the local shops, wouldn't have known it was there being next to a road apart from alot of signs advertising there large range of food, we decided to stop and get a bite to eat, a complete waste of money and such a rude lady at the till. We ordered a portion of chips, being the only customers we expected to wait a couple of minutes for the chips to be cooked fresh for us, after we placed our order with the lady who seemed to care less about it, who then started arguing with the staff! We waited for over 5 minutes for what I can assure you are the most unpleasant chips I've ever had, a soft skin and a thick center, a decent amount for the money you pay but wouldn't feed them to the family pet! Luckily we didn't get a full meal from there as shortly after saw an elderly gentlemen with a fish from there that looked like a burnt child's portion. Such a shame in a beautiful area.

I love the range of fish they have here, all fresh and change all the time. My favourite was the flakey, fresh rock salmon nestled on a big portion of light fluffy chips. Would highly recommend!! Also a great selection of diet drinks. When you get bored of the usual fish and chips they also offer jacket potatoes and breakfast baps.

We have been visiting Lyme Regis for a number of years and come at least 3 or 4 times each year. These fish and chips are the best that we have ever tasted. The sea bass was delicious grilled so much so we came back the next day to eat it again. The scallops in the garlic butter were perfection and a great portion size. The chips amazing. All fish straight off the boat and prepared by the fisherman's wife. The best fish and chips in Lyme by far. A must visit.

The food is cooked fresh to order and at a high quality! It was enforced by the welcoming reception from the staff, who create a friendly atmosphere. Would recommend over all the fish and chip bars on the seafront.

Visited the Fisherman's wife on a sunny day and by 6:30pm they had sold out of fish. They catch the fish themselves so there is a change in the fish available. It is a take away only and each order is cooked fresh. I had scallops cooked in garlic butter, they were very well cooked and the garlic butter on the chips was a new experience. My husband had hake, batter was good and crispy. He loved the chips, I thought they could be better. But it was great sat on the cobb eating fush and chips. Don't be late there may not be anything left !

I had checked the fish and chips reviews on here first before choosing which one to go with as there are so many to choose from and wasn't disappointed. We left it till quite late on Saturday night it was just after 8 so no cod left so went for sea bass which was delicious and cooked fresh. Chips were some of the best I've had.

This is by far the best take away in Lyme Regis, a little more expensive but well worth it the fish is catch of the day depending on what you order, cooked really well by a jolly little lad and friendly staff.we had haddock and chips served with fresh lemon slice and tartare sauce I had scallops cooked in garlic butter and served in a shell with lovely well cooked chips Lemon and T. sauce. It was so tasty, we sat looking out over the cob what could be better ,a bottle of wine was the only thing missing. Well worth a visit. Will make this a regular visit.

Having used the other excellent Fish bars by the harbour we thought we'd give this one a try. Everything is cooked fresh to order so expected a wait. We ordered the Haddock & Chips, when it arrived after quite a long wait, it was worth every minute of that wait. The batter was superb, the fish even better, the chips were very good. A very large portion served up in a box with a wedge of lemon & a sachet of tartae sauce. Enjoyed with relish, sat on the beach in glorious sunshine. Perfect.

Like one of the last reviewers said worst fish and chips ever had. I hope owner is aware how this business is not half as good as it once was. Visited 10/10/24 about 5pm. Girl who took the order was more interested in looking at phone and forgot to give me change. Then the fish and chips, which over the years were always good, were tasteless , batter overcooked and fish was mushy inside. We really should have complained but put half eaten in the bin. Will be trying somewhere else next year. Over the year we visit Lyme about 6 times but we will be trying different take a way when we come again.
