The Fisherman in Stevenage

We came to the Fisherman for a birthday celebration and our lunch was excellent. Our guest had been before but we hadn’t and Reanna went out of her way to look after us, giving us very good advice on our choices from the menu. We’ve already advised family and friends to book tables at the Fisherman and we look forward to our next visit.

Went here for a night out with friends for a change to our usual regular venue, chicken was dry , salad was not very nice either, music was turned off at 9.30, the unfriendly waitress told us they were closing at 10 & they all had their coats on ready to go by then will be going back to our usual venue & definitely wouldn’t recommend this pub

Very pleasant pub. Staff helpful. Very dissappointed with the "Octoberfest " Dirty Bratwurst " wasnt even a Bratwurst just a normal jumbo sausage which was very dissapponinting.

All I can say is wow from the food to the service. The portions were massive good quality and hot we preorder our roasts as I have a pea allergy the chefs cooked my veg from fresh nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely return and we were even able to purchase a healthy treat for our little do Mrs Wiggles

I would like to thank the manager and his staff for a really great evening celebrating our 60th Wedding Anniversary on the 17th of August. The service was superb. The food was also superb. Everything was served with a smile, and we were very well looked after for the whole evening. There were 15 people there for our celebrations, and everyone has asked me to express their thanks for a memorable evening. Siggy and I would certainly recommend The Fisherman in Stevenage. Easy review!! Probably the nicest pub I have been to in England. The constantine doors leading to the beautiful garden and fish pond. Seriously nice pub weirdly not in a location I would have expected. 9 of us last minute for food and drink and it was great. The staff were so friendly (Barmaid was funny and considering how busy still full of energy) and met all expectations. The only disappointment were the kids meals. Pizza's were tiny and from frozen, small portion of chips, chicken dippers you only get 2. Adult foods were lovely. Would definitely go back if in the area. Thank you all.

Came for Sunday lunch as we do occasionally and I have to say it’s probably the best Sunday roast in Hertfordshire. I always go for the mighty three meat option which can be a challenge but I’m up for it ! Chicken,pork loin and beef brisket two enormous Yorkshire puddings, lots of potatoes and veg plus gravy of course. Lovely looking pub with a large garden. Would recommend booking to avoid disappointment.

Once again excellent customer service when taking my husband with late stage dementia for lunch. Even during a very busy lunch service the staff were very happy to accommodate with the children’s menu of fish fingers and baked beans and even swopped out chips for mashed potatoes. Followed of course by a scoop of ice cream and chocolate sauce! No one was the slightest bit phased when I sat and fed him whilst eating my delicious veggie burger. Birthday Sunday lunch. Wonderful Sunday lunch. I do prefer sliced meats rather than half chicken so chose the beef brisket instead which was delicious. Had a summer cocktail which was nice too. Only criticism was the extra cauliflower cheese . Was hard and wasn't cheesy just in a white sauce. I did tell the waitress but wasn't removed from bill. All staff helpful and attentive. Beautiful pub. Need to book early next time to get near the open area.

This used to be a lovely place to go and have a meal with family but it’s gone down hill and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone! Some staff are rude, the wrong food bought out 3 times. When I raised the issues with a staff member before paying the bill all she said is ‘sorry how would you like to pay?’ She was also rude!! When I emailed a complaint to the fisherman all I got back was a load of rubbish saying it was a one off bad experience and the staff members will be spoken to!! Won’t be going back for sure!!

Reasonably priced food, delivered promptly and competently. We went mid-week and it was still fairly full. Atmosphere was buzzing.

Disappointed yet again, this is the second booking that they have cancelled on us in 2 months. We will not be attempting to book here again.

The food and service is exceptional here, second time here and both meals were outstanding but tonight my time there was spoilt by the next table just feet away, swearing, talking at the op of their voices, it was so bad, plus listening how to cheat on partners etc etc. It was embarrassing it seems that its best to avoid a Friday after work hours as its packed with builders of various types, letting go after a busy week only it spoilt our gorgeous meal a bit. Even worse the staff andvduty manager just kept walking past and could not avoid hearing any of this but said nothing.

Wow! I'd confess that the food was ok for the price. However, the service was shocking. I waiting just over half an hour for drink that I ordered from the waitress and asked 3 different waitresses as to it's whereabouts. I went to the bar for my next drink to save time but only one person behind the bar and it took 10 minutes. There was so much swearing in the pub it was shocking and someone at the next table was openly vaping the whole time and no-one said anything. My wife just read this and said it didn't really get across how bad it was!!

Came here a year ago was good went today was rubbish only had food from the snacks menu steak was nearly raw and cold and in chunks was supposed a flat iron steak we complained but the steak was very chewy sent both back exchanged for tuna melt was lovely shame cant be said about the rude offhand waitress! Wont be going back and will not be recommending to anyone elar! Maybe your staff need to be retrained on simple manners! After all manners are free!

Just popped in for a bite to eat and & a drink, the chap behind the bar ( ginger beard) didn’t acknowledge us, then just went straight in with, “what do you want” when we ordered food the response was very sarcastic. Very unwelcoming, he obviously doesn’t like his job ! It used to be a lovely pub, won’t be returning .

We have visited this venue several times before and have had some loverly meals there. However the last 2 times we’ve been the food has not been good at all. On our latest visit, I ordered a chicken dish and the OH ordered a burger. It took nearly and hour to arrive and when it did I had 2 of the smallest pieces of chicken, a handful of chips, and what can only be described as the most watery, tasteless, cheap foul coleslaw I’ve ever seen/tasted. The OH had a burger, a few chips with a huge pile of coleslaw slopped over them. (The fisherman’s used to have a loverly home made coleslaw, and still on their menu state that it’s home made, but this is clearly not as it was so watery, tasteless and disgusting). The meal was a huge disappointment and I spoke with the waitress afterwards regarding it. Her nervous reply was “it’s a new recipe for the coleslaw I think, but tbh you’re not the only 1 who’s complained about it” I had a soft drink (as was driving) and the OH a couple of alcoholic drinks. The bill was the best part of £60. Will not be returning as was a huge disappointment for the second time running.

Firstly the service was pretty awful. Had to ask to have our order taken, had to ask for the bill, then paid at the till as no waitress to be seen to take the payment. Secondly the food is average, which I almost expect from most pubs, but… I think charging £13.45 for scampi and chips and then charging an extra £1.95 if I’d like peas, is an absolute rip off!! No tartar sauce, no garnish!…come on… will not be returning!

Went for an early evening meal. Shown to.table straightaway and drinks ordered promptly. Waitress was polite. Food arrived and nicely presented and hot. Waitress did a.check back which was nice Ordered dessert which were ok the waffle was hard and dry though. The only let down was quite drafty where we were sat.

We went to celebrate my wives 70th birthday with 12 other family members, we arrived just before 12pm and were shown the table laid for 14 people, it was in the conservatory which we found very comfortable, the heaters were on so it was comfortably warm. Our family arrived just before 12pm and we all chose our choices, the staff were understanding when only 2 people had starters and arranged it so that the mains came soon after the people who chose starters had finished. The mains all arrived pretty much together, all were hot and very well cooked, all present said that they enjoyed the meals. The puddings were ordered at the table and again were all delivered together. All in all it was a lovely experience, the staff were all very good and helpful. We would definitely recommend this venue.

Nice atmosphere, do not have Massaman curry. A plate of hard cauliflower, new potatoes, string beans and a over abundance of peas. I make lots of curries, hard veg is a no no.Very dry and bland. The other dishes looked and seemed ok. Very disappointing.

My family and I had Sunday dinner. They had run out of lamb shank and pork at 7pm so we had three beef briskets, though I don't think the choice would've made a difference - it was easily the worst roast any of us had ever had. Completely tasteless. Very poor quality. It was so disappointing, especially considering how nice The Fisherman used to be. Definitely won't be returning.

We don't go to The Fisherman very often, mainly due to not being able to book a table before it was taken over (I believe it was walk ins only) so after hearing that its now a Chicken and Grill we decided to visit as we love the Red Lion in Hatfield. We came as a party of 5 to celebrate mums retirement and were seated in the outer part of the pub which I must say is really really nice and has a warm ambiance to it. Drinks and food orders were taken with a smile by a lovely waitress (can't remember her name) and everything came out in a reasonable time, mums steak was a bit gristley but that didn't deter us all from having a wonderful evening and we all said we will definitely return here for another meal in the future, I recommend the smoky wings and anything chicken from the mains! Delicious 😋

Marvelous service! the best fish and chips in a pub ever, the batter in particular was superb. could not have been better. All of our food was delicious.

Brilliant afternoon today - family group of 22 of us . Meals was excellent- all correct, came out altogether & flavoursome!! And the desserts - wow! Staff were so friendly- couldn't do enough for us ! Thank you to everyone who worked to making it such a special memorable day!

Fantastic customer service for someone with additional needs A rare opportunity to take my husband who has Dementia out for lunch. We hadn't booked as it was a last minute decision. The staff in the Fisherman couldn't have been kinder and more accommodating, making a potentially stressful experience really pleasant and relaxing. Our server was called Jade & she was just great. To accommodate his needs, we had a few starters, no mains and my husband had icecream for dessert, even being offered an appropriate child-size portion, and it really wasn't a problem despite a busy pre-xmas restaurant. We used to eat at this pub regularly for years. However since the owners have left and it’s been taken over by a brewery it is absolutely awful, we will never visit there again.

We had dinner last night with our friends, we gave the Fisherman the benefit of the doubt as our last visit was disappointing but we put it down to the new management settling in following the Mc Mullen takeover. Regrettably there has been little improvement in the quality of the food and the service was not as good as it should be. Before McMullen took over the food was of a high quality and appeared to be home cooked. Out of the 4 meals 2 were ok, the pie and steak offering weren’t enjoyable.The steak was not cooked as requested and the pie was no different from a shop brought and the mash from a packet. When the food when brought to the table the waiter leaned in front of one guest to pass it to the recipient , and the gap between meal delivery’s was several minutes so we could not start eating together. This wasn’t the waiters fault it must be the training and or lack of supervision. Desserts didn’t fare much better, the apple pie and crumble was cold in the middle and the raspberries in the sundae was still frozen. To be fair when it was mentioned the waitress removed the cost of the apple pie from the bill. I know another local McMullen pub which produces much better dinners and service so it can be achieved with some training and management guidance. Please accept this review as constructive it not a dig but an opportunity to improve as the pub and its atmosphere is great. Hopefully when we come back in a few months time we can see and taste the difference.

We actually can't thank you all enough for a fantastic night celebrating our Mum/Nan's 90th birthday! Over 50 family and friends, all had a fantastic meal, the staff were incredible, bringing the food and drinks so efficiently. The food was so nice and hot! Thank you for everything!
