The Fighting Cocks in South Kesteven

Sue and I went to eat on a Friday night. Unusually, I had Fish and I will say it was the best Fish I have tasted for a very long time. Sue agreed-not necessarily a usual practice. Interestingly, another couple also said it was the best Fish (and chips) they had had. Well done Ian and the team.

Recently taken over by Iain & Vicky with a complete renovation of the pub makes this a super place to go for lovely food and lovely atmosphere and the staff are very welcoming, home from home with burning open fire for a cosy feel. What more could you want.

The Fighting Cocks has always been a good local pub but has changed hands a couple of times when its future looked to be in doubt, but not now I suspect ! There has been a refurb and an updating resulting in a new look. There are now discrete areas like the garden seating area; the "snug" with comfy chairs, books and games; the general bar with seating and standing areas and the dining area. The new tenants Vicky and Ian have just started to serve food and have wisely introduced a basic pub grub menu to begin with. We were told that there are plans to extend /vary the menu when they have a feel for the demand. The home made food is freshly cooked and Ian is accommodating when it comes to slight variations - I dislike chips so mash was substituted even though it was not on the menu. The portions are generous and nicely presented. There is a good selection of beer I am told, and I was satisfied with the wine offerings. The prices are reasonable for a village pub. There was a warm welcome from behind the bar and prompt service without feeling hurried. This was our second visit in a fortnight with friends we enjoyed the atmosphere so much. There is parking behind the pub but if that is full there is parking on the square opposite or on the street.

Perhaps not known as a pub that bikers go to, but my friend and I have made countless visits over the years from over the border in Leicestershire on our old sports bikes. It starts with an amazing ride on empty roads, a warm and friendly welcome from the landlord and regulars ,followed by a great beer. Can't wait for the Covid situation to improve so that we can get over to a truly great pub again.

Had a lovely lunch time meal with a large group of friends... 4 couples plus kids. Staff were great and easily managed us with our various requests and kids. Lovely atmosphere great food and reasonably priced

A quick line to say how brilliant the theme night was last weekend. As always the quality of the food was brilliant, service was really friendly and the whole night was amazing value for money. Loved it and will be back again soon.

We went here for food really but I enjoyed the beer too. Very decent pub food at a decent price. Even better welcome by the publican. Will visit again as my brother has just moved to this village and will make it his local.

Super Sunday lunch for Mother’s Day the food was Wonderfull as always and the staff were great brilliant value for money and lovely home cooked food .

This us our local pub, and its great. The staff and owners are all very friendly and helpful. The food is always really good quality and great value. The Wednesday mains deals is definately worth coming to Corby Glen for. Great beer as well. Been here loads of times and never had a bad meal.

Yet again another fabulous meal at the Fighting Cocks. Amazing food and service. Great value for money. Simon and Sharon and their team are brilliant hosts that are attentive and masters of hospitality. Will be back very soon! 5 stars!

We've been to the other pub in Corby Glen, the gastro one on the main road through, but took a gamble and tried this pub on Friday night. It looks a bit 'spit and sawdust' and there are few frills, the locals didn't even want to move so we could get to the bar, but oh my goodness, the food is fantastic. It's not often that I can't decide what to have from a menu, being a bit fussy, but it was hard to choose. Vegetarians are well catered for too. Everything seemed home cooked and it was all fresh, no sign of pre-packed, frozen, microwave rubbish. Lots of imaginative dishes. Really good value for money too. Fabulous Gin selection. No wonder the locals keep this secret to themselves. We will definitely be back and I've only told a few friends, honest, how good this place is.

We attended the Spanish night on the 8th. Excellent food and service and good value for money. My partner Sara is Spanish and loved the food. Would come again.
