Great menu choices and the food was cooked perfectly. I had the Red Wine braised beef which was delicious and my husband had the Indian Shepherds pie which was an excellent choice. The service was friendly and efficient and the manager was extremely helpful when dealing with our gift voucher query.

It’s a beautiful place and full of so much character. We sat upstairs in a beamed room but there’s plenty of tables downstairs too. Food was good, most mains were around £20. I had a tasty chicken and ham pie, packed with filling and excellent pastry. We shared a chocolate fondue dessert, loved the honeycomb and brownies. Only criticism is the dough balls were a bit stodgy. Easy to reserve a table online, worth doing as it can get very busy, friendly server. Would recommend for a decent meal or drinks in a lovely old pub.

PARKING IS A NIGHTMARE, take my advice and head to Wharf road car park then walk to the restaurant. Food is nice, but beware the starters are huge. The pigs in blankets starter was 5 decent sized sausages that were piping hot. I had Sirloin Focaccia, with a dipping gravy. The meat was lovely and tender but the gravy seemed to be lacking in beef flavour. It was possibly just a general purpose meat gravy as my wife's pulled pork focaccia had the same gravy. My daughter had a pizza and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were very polite and the restaurant was quaint and quirky. Overall it was a nice experience apart from finding parking spaces.

Lovely pub. Great atmosphere and more importantly great beer!!! Update after more recent visit. Four if us ate with mixed results. My braised beef was great, the Indian Shepherds pie with Bombay mash lacked flavour, the cod and patatas bravas potatoes was well cooked but tomoatoe sauce seemed overly sweet, and the vegan spicy pea bean and spinach fitter with flatbread was overpriced for what you got with a third of it being the bread. We enjoyed the atmosphere beers and drinks and would still return for food but maybe different choices

We stumbled on this pub when visiting for a few hours. It looked busy but a waiter told us there was room upstairs. All except one table was reserved! However, we thoroughly enjoyed the chicken and ham pie. It's quite a substantial meal, but well cooked and very tasty. Thank you. I must mention the ladies toilets. They were the best I have seen in a long time, and very clean. Well done!

What a find. We were visiting Burley House gardens and wanted somewhere for a birthday lunch. So much to choose from in Stamford however other places closer to Burley House had poor reviews. This venue had excellent reviews and was also recommended by a friend who lives locally. This place did not disappoint! Beautiful looking old English pub with tables placed throughout the smaller rooms giving it immediate ambiance. Staff welcoming The food was great quality. I had the pie and the crustyness if the short crust pastry and the enhancement of the herbs complimented the chicken and ham pie. My husband had chicken parmigiano and fries with truffle oil and he also said it was delicious Totally recommend

This pub is a beautiful historic building with lots of history within its walls. The building is set out over two stories and the tables are comfortable with plenty of room. We enjoyed a drink prior to our table being ready and there are cards on all the tables with resevation times, which makes seeking a place to sit really easy. In addition we realised you can find your own table as it will have a card with your name and a time. The Pimms I had was one of the best I've had in a very long time. Made properly! The menu itself is good and the food we ordered was really delicious.I didn't manage a pudding but on hearing how good it was wish I had made room! Visited on a busy Saturday lunch time. I think this could have been our downfall. The food was just ok. The fish was a little bit doughy and the cheesy garlic bread was super thin and didn’t have much cheese. Maybe we have been spoilt as we prefer the likes of The Kings Head (Stamford) and Don paddy’s (Uppingham) much more in terms of food. There was limited seating options as it was so busy so we are putting out experience down to the fact it was a busy Saturday lunchtime. We are going to go again sometime in the week when it’s a little quieter for another go. Service was swift and nice enough. Just expected a bit more on the food front

My fourth visit here. First one was great Sunday roast. Second was great we were a large party of 20. Third visit my friend’s arancini cheese was inedible and was kindly replaced and dish lacked salad. Yesterday chose to celebrate A level and GCSE results. My baked Camembert cheese was delicious. Good portion of pigs in blankets. The spare ribs is misleading as it was just baby corn and salad and the spicy seasoning made it difficult to eat. Expensive at £10! We can take our spice being Indian! Mains my lamb kofta was ok - dry. Lamb burger went down a treat. Husband’s pizza of Cajun chicken again spiced so much that was inedible. Rocket leaves landed on another pizza but that was easy to transfer over. Orange and passion fruit cheese cake combo tasted like cough syrup. The millionaire cake and sticky toffee were delicious. Service was slow and getting a jug of water third time lucky. I love this place usually and their Sundays roasts are great. Yesterday was disappointing.

What an enjoyable and memorable Sunday Lunch. My family and I recently gathered here for a special family celebration and it was an absolute joy. All three generations were well-suited with the variety on the special Sunday Lunch Menu. My Roast Beef was top-notch and everyone else enjoyed their lunch too including big, home-made Yorkshire Puddings and gravy; and there was an ample selection of vegetables. The good variety of interesting desserts rounded off our lunch really well. The serving staff were lovely and were not at all intrusive. Just had the most amazing Sunday lunch, I think all 4 of our party enjoyed their meal immensely. I had the Lamb roast with all the trimmings, including Yorkshire pud, and thankfully the cauliflower cheese came in a separate pot, because personally it has know business on a plate with gravy. Anyway all was amazing, thank you for the warm welcome, and our dog fully enjoyed his complimentary biscuits. One small gripe was the few flies in the area we were seated, which isn’t your fault, but it might be worth investing in some sort of fly catcher. Once again thank you for the great service and our scrumptious meal.

They threw away half a chicken and a lot of potatoes and gravy and a little cauliflower. To be fair, my recently post surgery and out of his mind husband did say “yes” when they asked him if we were done AS I was up to pay and asked for the food to be wrapped up. But I found the service afterwards going from yes! Well have someone wrap that up for you to- well he said you were done *shrug*- to be lackluster. Literally how does that happen as one is paying! It was a chicken with untouched wings and thighs. How wasteful to throw it away. In fairness I felt the chicken a decent value and the sticky toffee pudding was delicious! So they’ve gotten two stars. But I still can’t recommend based on customer service. It makes me so sad half our families food was gone down the bin :(

Beautiful pub! Very atmospheric. You find your own table. Service exceptionally prompt considering how busy they were. Food all arrived on time. Good wine choice. Nice glass. However, food was a bit of a let down, and it’s overpriced. Fish n chips with crushed peas £19.99! Really? Nothing exceptional. The lamb kofta was so dry I could have likened it to a takeaway that’d been left out overnight!! Served with dry flatbread, bland salad, no tzatziki had to ask for a some yogurt just for some pizzazz - more like a starter but was £20.99! Absolute rip off. Ham & Chichen & Tarragon pie was very good however, and burger and fries far better! We always like to tip for a good service, but felt on this occasion we’d not bother as food is overpriced, and girl who took order at the bar wasn’t the most friendliest public-serving person we’ve met. Building: +5 points. A beautiful building, nicely opened up to be enjoyed by the public, beautifully decorated with lots of portraits, railway signage and other historical memorabilia. Service: +2 points. Pleasant enough, but card only is annoying. Food: -5 points. Overcooked battered fish, a parmigiana that was devoid of chicken, a pizza that was super-salty with a neither here-nor-there base. Booze: -1 point. Strangely modest range of beer and cider, modest range of wines. Dogs: +1 (if you like dogs) - dogs allowed in the building, but are a tripping and spilling hazard when it’s busy, and not great if it’s wet (smell) or you’re allergic (sniff/wheeze).

1st visit was ok but the second visit during late lunch midweek wasn't as good. It wasn't too busy but the food was slow and when it came it wasn't very enjoyable. I had a crispy chicken foccacia sandwich which wasn't anything like I expected, it was in a bun like a chicken burger (which I didn't want) the bun and the chicken were both as dry as a desert and the addition of garlic mayo as stated on the menu was non existent. My friend had a goats cheese and chicken pizza wrap which she said was ok but she didn't finish it as it was too cheesy and a bit sickly. The annoying thing is I wouldn't have ordered that if the menu description had been more specific, if it says sandwich then it should be a sandwich! A burger bun isn't a sandwich. And you can't really send it back when it arrives especially if you've waited ages and have other things to do that day!

A lovely pub in the centre of town. A good selection of beer and nice decor and atmosphere to spend and hour or two with friends and family. Can get very busy though leading to long waits at the bar.

Such an excellent pub. A great atmosphere and is exactly how a pub should be. There's a fantastic selection of drinks and service is swift and everyone was incredibly helpful. We didn't eat, but I did read through the menu and there are a wide variety of delicious sounding things. Dog friendly too, which is brilliant. Very highly recommended.

I met friends for lunch and it was perfect for a catch up as the tables were not too close. I ordered the Italian chicken sandwich which was nice although it had too much mayonnaise and I couldn’t pick it up and had to use a fork to eat it.

Stamford was a good meeting point for a family gathering to celebrate mine and more especially my brother’s 90th birthday. We came from York, Essex and Derbyshire, and so pleased that we picked Stamford and the well situated Tobie Norris. We couldn’t find fault, staff were courteous, friendly and helpful, it was just the right ambiance for the occasion and importantly the food was very good. Would return and recommend.

Really nice atmosphere in this pub, that is obviously popular with clientele of all ages. It was a busy Thursday evening when we visited. We recommend booking a table for food, although we were able to be seated without booking. However, the choice of tables was limited. The food was served in about 40 mins, but understandable because it was a very busy evening! Food was delicious, and we all enjoyed our meals.

Food was very nice, service was fine, wait times were a little long when considering the reservation timings. Would recommend a try if you're local

Great food, atmosphere and staff. Dog friendly book early as it gets very busy. Downstairs is far better for less mobile

Great venue, fab food and impeccable service. Did the pizza and wine deal - amazing value - pizza was much bigger than expected. Fish and chips were lovely the peas and tartar sauce exceptional. Would recommend coming here.

Waited 2 hours for food. By the time the food came out, appetite was passed it. Service was shocking could tell that the waiters were angry throwing ice cubes at the floor.

We order from here regularly but this driver who’ve I’ve never seen before has got an attitude that stinks. Think he needs to learn basic manners! Appalled!!
