Lovely food, good menu choices, relaxing environment, pleasant and efficient staff. Would definitely return. If I was to raise any constructive criticisms, I would say food slightly over priced and beer choice not great. And adding 10% service charge (which is a practice in a lot of restaurants now) is sneaky and I don’t know why we as the public put up with it.

Now renamed Carniboar, we visited on a Friday afternoon after having a stroll around Ruthin. The Food Hygiene ratings on the door are 1 so that put us off but we had a look at recent reviews on TripAdvisor / Google etc which were positive and decided to give it a go - we're glad we did! Beth the Manager, was a lovely host and made us feel really welcome. She explained they have recently rebranded (previously Fat Boar) and are waiting for the Local Authority Food Hygiene Standards to reassess. My husband & I both had the Filet and the steaks were cooked to perfection. As a side order we tried the battered onion rings - they were fresh and light - absolutely delicious. We couldn't fault a thing and will definitely be revisiting!

We visited last Saturday to what we thought was a new restaurant ’carniboar’ - fat boars menu with a new title on top . We were sat in the top room which was empty, freezing and pretty poor atmosphere. I ordered 3 starters alongside chips and explained I wanted this as my main to come with my partners burger . 2 minutes later the starters come out ( no chips ) - I explained I wanted them with mains so they said oh sorry we haven’t put the burger on yet but we will do it asap. So I’m sat eating my food alone . They offered us a complimentary drink ( I was still waiting for my drink I’d ordered at this point) very soon after the burger arrives - cut into is a very red burger inside and so rushed and undercooked it’s made all the bun wet , sloppy and red. Just gross. By this time our evening meal is finished probably 30 mins after arriving it’s so rushed. We should have sent it back but can you be bothered sitting there eating alone - no . Eeking out the meal we order the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake - arrives is a very bare looking shop bought cheesecake with the red jelly top you could get cheap places with a curl of white choc on top 😅. What was once ‘On the hill’ has gone SOOO down hill. Definitely needs improvements.

Now open as the Carniboar, the Sunday sharing platter was absolutely delicious. The staff service was exceptional & the atmosphere was relaxed & friendly. The presentation of the food was superb, the food was cooked to perfection and the staff were attentive but not imposing. The best cheesecake I’ve eaten, and an excellent wine list. We will certainly be back!

Me and my partner use to be regular customers at this bar, we went almost every weekend just for a nice drink as we live a 10 minute walk away & the staff always recognised us. One Saturday evening we went over, we sat down for a few hours having a few drinks, then Noah came up to us with more drinks and said that these had been brought for us (partners friend). To be honest at this point yes, we were tipsy but we were still able to remain responsible and sensible. My partner left to go to the toilet then once he came back, a bar staff member came up to us and told us we should leave after these drinks, we then left. A few weeks later we returned and upon arrival the owner Noah watched us walk past him up to the bar, where one of the bar staff told us he can’t serve us as we were barred? We left really confused and a bit disheartened considering this was our local and they gave us no explanation as to why we had been barred. Cut again to a few weeks later, we have been told by a friend that bumped into a bar staff member there that we had been banned because my partner was ‘throwing up all over the bar area, and continued to do so until we left’. This DID NOT HAPPEN AT ALL! Not once was any of us sick, and if this was the case, wouldn’t the staff there be more bothered at the time instead of just telling us we need to leave after we finish our drinks?? We think it’s EXTREMELY disgusting that Noah and also his own staff feel the need to make up lies about their regular customers just because by some shocking suprise, people actually tend to get tipsy in a pub that serves alcohol!! Also none of them had no issue taking money of our friend who brought us a round, if my partner was ‘throwing up all over the place’ as they say, shouldn’t they have refused to serve us that last drink? Disgusting behaviour from all of them.

Very ordinary meal for the price. I had the nut roast which was too sweet and soft. The Yorkshire pudding was chewy. The roast potatoes were ok. The staff were lovely though. Couldn't fault them.
