The Exchange in Derry

Visited here twice recently and on both occasions the food was excellent and the staff always very friendly, efficient and professional. Would definitely recommend.

We ate early so we were able to be seated immediately and had friendly and fast service. I had the stacked Fillet and it was fantastic! My husband had the chicken stir fry and he thought it was just OK. Our kids had steak fajita, with fresh tortillas and guac, and a burger and both were good.

3 of us had lunch here and we were extremely happy with, not only the food, but the service and the ambience in the Exchange. Two steak lunches cooked exactly as requested and a smoked salmon open sandwich were all very tasty. The desserts were a good call as the chocolate orange cheesecake hit the spot. It’s obvious that the kitchen take pride in what they serve up. Well done to all concerned.

Atmosphere great food not so good .salmon was very undercooked on a bed of slop .my husbands steak overcooked dry and tough won,t be back .. use to be so good unfortunately not anymore .

Good visit, with very efficient staff, decent prices and very good food. Spotlessly clean and very busy. Happy to see that they sell my favourite Irish cider and we hope to return.

My partner, my 20yo daughter and I ate here this evening. He was very happy with his steak. I had the sea bass in laksa sauce with tiger prawns, which was delicious. My daughter had the chicken fajitas, which has been her favourite choice in The Exchange since she was about 8 or 9. She was disappointed tonight. Her food was cold by the time it came to our table. The vegetables, onions and peppers, weren't cooked sufficiently. The chicken was overcooked We asked for a jug of water. They remembered to mention it on the bill, but they didn't charge

We arrived at Exchange on a Tuesday evening in march. It was extremely busy and we were told there would be a 30 minute wait for a table. As it had been highly recommended, we decided to wait. We had a drink while we waited. My God. Was it worth the wait. Amazing staff. So wonderfully friendly and helpful. When the food arrived, it was stunning. So delicious. Huge portions. I could not recommend this restaurant more highly.

Sea bass wasn't cooked after being served late to our table (had to ask waiter where it was), was raw in the middle. Sent back and chef agreed way below standard. Sides and every thing else served 10 mins prior. Dish didnt come back and was offered something else but too late as rest of family nearly finished. Tbf didn't have to pay for it but spoiled a family dinner. Expected better customer service from this restaurant as its expensive. Won't be back as better local restaurants.

We live in Donegal and met up with two family members from Belfast for a lovely lunch at The Exchange. As usual the food was delicious and the service was top class. A very nice experience. We will be back again .... and often.

We were celebrating a wedding anniversary and because we haven't been for a few years, we picked the exchange. Disappointing to say the least. Service was great, staff very attentive, but food was not!! Not even a luttuce leaf on the plate to dress the food. Food was under whelming and not worth the price paid.....2 mains, 2 sides, 1 beer and a vodka and ginger...£70.05. We wont be rushing back, there are to many establishments serving grest food to have to deal with overpriced mediocre food!!

Highlights of the restaurant is comfortable dining and pleasant efficient staff. Unfortunately the food quality was very poor. A tough ciabatta sandwich that was loaded with some sort of taco or southwest sauce that was not indicated on the menu. I thought I was ordering a healthy option yet is was laced with a toxic orange sauce I would never add to anything I’d eat. Portions and food quality have dropped greatly in here. The steak pie has shrunk to less than half what it used to be. 6 small bits of steak in a tiny pastry casing!! I appreciate the increase in costs for any restaurant and expect prices to be reflected accordingly but compromising on the quality is not the best way to maintain a business.

We came into the exchange 3rd January for my partner Birthday met at the front of the restaurant by the blonde haired waitress and told we had a 30 minute wait time and we said yes that's fine we sat down and waited and another 2 people came in a while after us, the same blonde waitress came skipped us, tabled them before us, we got a table after that,we had ordered food and the young lad waitresses landed with just the main courses and no sides and he walked away,i thought he was away to get the sides so i was waiting for a while and seen he was delivering to the other tables, I politely asked the waitress that  had seated us at the start that we received our mains about 10mins ago that we never received our chips, she said I'm sorry I will go get them for you, i had seen she hadn't went to the kitchen to bring the sides after couple more minutes had past I had seen here walking past looking directly at us walked past no interaction and continues to seat and talk to everyone that came in the front door, I stopped another waitress and told her the situation, she was very polite and she said she could reheat or mains course and bring them out again I told her no I wanted to just eat my food and leave, she said the charge of the sides order will be removed,maybe it was just a bad night of luck for me the food i had tried was very good but the service i had from the waitress was enough for me not to return

Never thought I'd say it but God its standard has dropped while it's prices increased They charge £1.95 for a side despite the plain chicken escalope csting 10 quid Chips were hard and tasteless 2.95 for 1 cup teapot and 6 quid for a kids meal Overpriced Glory days fast fading

We had a lovely meal at The Exchange and didn't have to wait too long for a table. The Exchange burger was lovely. The salt & chilli prawn with noodles was excellent. And the tiramisu dessert was beautiful. The only negative thing about the meal was that the sides are now charged as extra but overall the meal was really, really good.

This restaurant has gone downhill and although once a regular customer I will never go back to it. The quality of the food is poor and most of the current staff do not in my opinion have the personality for hospitality work.

We went here to celebrate a family gathering. The place itself is very comfortable and decor was good. It was a little busy. We got our food but my starter was seafood chowder. It was a bowl of cream with very little fish in it. Not nice at all. The service was fine . We found it very expensive indeed. Don't believe a meal should be that overpriced, we only had one meal not a weeks supply. Sorry.

They need to sort out a better system when it comes to advertising an Early Bird menu and not taking bookings. The early bird menu is advertised until 7pm Monday-Thursday. We arrived at 6.30pm on Thursday and told it was a 1hr wait for a table which we were willing to do. We assumed because our name was down from 6.30pm & we had no control over the waiting time that we would still get from the early bird menu. When we were seated around 7.20pm we were given the evening menu(which is ridiculously priced for Derry). When we asked for the early bird menu as we had been in from 6.30pm we were told it is based on what time you are seated. The girl said if we are seated at 7.20pm and someone comes in at 7.20pm &is; given a different menu it is unfair but this makes no sense as you don't expect to get a menu which finishes at 7pm if you arrive at 7.20pm but you do if you arrive at 6.30pm! They need to allow bookings up until the time the early bird ends or allow the early bird to be given to anyone who has their name down for a table before it ends as people don't know how long the wait will be before they arrive. Food was nice when arrived but still Derry standard and definitely not worth the higher prices.

Went with 12 others and although it was ok, just, I wouldn’t be rushing back , I had roast beef dinner , beef was a bit tough , sprouts were so undercooked they were inedible, I had one in my mouth for five minutes trying to chew it , very basic meal for what we paid , I had cheesecake for after and it was lovely

Y fue sobresaliente, al igual que el servicio. Esté preparado para marcar un servidor que pasa si necesita algo, ya que no hacen un seguimiento agresivo como lo hacen en los estados. Pero la buena noticia es que cualquiera / todos están felices y pueden ayudarlo con cualquier cosa. Tuvimos 4 personas diferentes que tomaron nuestro pedido, trajeron nuestra comida, trajeron nuestras bebidas y tomaron nuestro cheque. En general, una de las mejores comidas que disfrutamos en el país. ¡Bien hecho, Exchange!

Although you can’t book a table, food is excellent, atmosphere is great as people are always waiting, staff are excellent. Very busy weekend nights so be prepared to wait. Staff are excellent and it’s warm and comfortable.

The exchange has a great reputation for great food and with my son's 20th birthday in mind we opted for the The Exchange. The food was excellent and the staff are always friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I had the lamb and it was superb and plenty of it. the Exchange is always busy (sign of great food perhaps) so be prepared to wait 30 mins or so - always a great excuse to have a drink and catch up with family or friends before a real culinary treat. Highly recommended.

Have been to the exchange many times and it never disappoints. Food is excellent and there is a car park nearby. Staff are friendly and helpful and restaurant situated close to the famous peace bridge and city hall so enjoy the sights as well

I love pubs. But the problem with most of the pubs in Ireland is that they serve lots of drinks, and a smattering of snacks, but not that many offer a full menu for a meal. So because we wanted to eat more than drink, we passed pub after pub that only served drinks. Finally came to the Exchange Restaurant. Very nice and lively atmosphere with a friendly hustle and bustle about it. Delicious food. We had Blackened Salmon and Grilled Sea Bass. Excellent!

I had the cauliflower steak and it was very tasty. Generous serving. Can’t speak for the rest of the food as didn’t try it! Seemed like a good place for groups as we had 8 at our table. Service was good.

We were recommended to go to The Exchange and had high expectations but not to be. It is very busy & very crowded which gives the impression but must be good. We gave our name as they don't take bookings & returned 45 minutes later for our table. Staff are polite but very busy so there is no time to chat to customers & make the occasion feel personal. I had chicken which was fine but the salad that accompanied it was only suitable to give a rabbit. Dry, brown on the edges, limp & completely inedible. We did pass this on and they apologised but that was it. I would not recommend The Exchange, it felt like a busy club restaurant & the food was nothing special.

Family from England came to visit so went to Exchange on their last evening. Needless to say the place was buzzing for a Wednesday evening. Waited 25 mins or thereabouts for a table. Food as always very tasty, hot and service excellent so well worth the wait whice gave us time to enjoy a delicious cocktail or two. Exchange never disappoints would highly recommend.

As a leading local primary school, we were delighted to use the City Hotels meeting rooms again for interviewing Perfect location for people travelling from out of time, easy to find with local parking. The service that the City Hotel offers is excellent, all staff so pleasant and welcoming. Chris who assisted us in the meeting room was very attentive and looked after all our needs. Was recommended this steakhouse by a recepionist at the Maldron hotel, Derry. Glad she did. They didnt take bookings so went to try it. Waited only 15 mins. Well worth the wait. Had the mini bang bang chicken skewers for starters, very tasty. Had the fillet stack, with mash, tobacco onions and pepper sauce. Added the garlic fries and honey roasted veg, Asolutely beautiful, Nicest steak ive ever had. For dessert i had profiteroles and ice cream, Beautiful feed. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Was suprised how little the bill was in the end. Lookn forward to gettn back. Id recommend this place to anyone who likes good food.

Fantastic steak and rib plate. Best that I have had anywhere in years. Service was excellent. Our waitress had a good sense of humour which was a pleasure to see. Make sure that you have plenty of room in your tummy as the portion size was enormous not to mind the large dish of excellently cooked chips.

Came into the Exchange this week because it was recommended by one of our Tour Guides and Bus Driver. The recommendation was spot on.

We ate here while staying in Derry two times, we chose to come back after having the first dinner. The food was delicious and they worked with my partner's garlic allergy. Drinks were tasty and the place felt casual classy.

Weekday lunch at the Exchange was nice. I had the Louisiana Chicken with Tobacco Onions absolutely gorgeous. My husband was disappointed as he had asked for his steak to be Medium rare but was well done, he never sends food back in case he’s not sent back out a good dish. Son had chicken escalope with cream potatoes and gravy, chicken was very dry my son could t eat did eat some of the potatoes and gravy. Was glad we had a voucher to use

I wrote to the management to report that I had been over charged on a round of drinks. I asked for a receipt and which was only produced after I had already paid. The difference was only a few pounds. The barman said it was a mistake. I wrote to the management but initially got no reply. It was only later when I said I would be making a comment on Trip Advisor that I got a reply to say they would look into the issue but despite a reminder I have heard nothing since. I advise anyone buying drinks at the bar to get a receipt to ensure that they are not being overcharged and that the sale is actually rung up on the till.

I visited The Exchange with a few friends. I have been there before and had the same main course; goujons of lemon sole. On this occasion I was disappointed in the quality and size of the portion. Another friend who also ordered them felt the same. The dessert; pavlova was delicious but too large a portion for me. The staff were lovely and attentive especially since the restaurant was very busy.

Very busy restaurant, located in downtown Derry, Northern Ireland, among many, many shops, all within walking distance. Wait staff were polite and accommodating. Large portions and tasty. Vegetarian options! Full bar. Silverware wasn't clean and although I ordered the vegetarian entree, mine was the last to arrive, long after the others were half way through eating their meat platters. Poor serving management.

I've been coming to The Exchange for years. 9/10 times it is excellent. It is popular with locals, and is very busy almost every night. The menu never changes, but that's not a problem for me as I really like the menu. It is very reasonably priced. You are pretty much guaranteed to receive a good meal in The Exchange.

Fuimos aquí por un cumpleaños, siete de nosotros. Tres de nosotros comimos el pollo panko, dos comimos la hamburguesa y dos comimos el pescado del día. Teníamos ajos, papas fritas, arroz y puré que todos compartimos. Todas las comidas eran encantadoras. Algunos tenían merengue para el desierto y otros tenían tarta de queso, seguidos de té y café. El personal era encantador, nada demasiado para ellos. Bonito día, sin duda volveremos.

We ate here on Thursday evening and ate from the Earlybird menu. Great value, lots of choice of mains and sides, good service. Over all a very good dining experience, would recommend to anyone.

Buzzing little place with very friendly staff. Food is good and very reasonably priced, although my colleague found the sauce with her duck rather salty. All in all, though, well worth a visit.

Went for lunch on Friday before checking into hotel. Food was really lovely and great size portions. Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Always try to visit The Exchange when in Derry and never have I had a bad meal! Keep up the good work.

Used to be favorite spot for us but recently it has gone down hill a lot. Tables are very very close together, so much so that the couple on the table next to us were able to hear everything we quietly talked about (and make comments). A side order was left out of the order, starter selection was limited, mains were average. On the upside the staff are friendly. Couldn't wait to get out, which is disappointing because it was a past regular favorite but won't be any hurry to go back.

My wife and I with our 8 and 5 year olds visited the exchange on a Saturday evening (530pm). The service was excellent, fast but friendly and efficient. The food is delicious and my only complaint (minor) is the portions ate too big. The exchange is a busy and popular restaurant which caters for all ages, couples, party's and family's. It is not expensive nor inexpensive. There is an extensive menu catering for all tastes.

Sister invited us up for the evening and we went here. It was very busy and we had to wait on the stools at the front for about 35 mins but we had some drinks and we got our table eventually. Food came out relatively quickly and was quite nice. Felt quite dark inside with no natural light and felt it could do with a little updating. But a lovely meal nonetheless
