Great little boozer. Good area too. Has the ship and mitre next to it but it's calmer and the drinks ace and yeah enjoyed it

One of those pubs from yestayear, good grub even better pint. Friendly staff came all the way from Spain for a pint here.

Lovely pub but not wheelchair accessible as stated on the Google page. If you are in a wheelchair you will need to be able to get up an approximately 3-4 inch step. Luckily I had some strong friends! But there is no ramp or anything, so just be aware.

One of Liverpool's 'proper' pubs. Great atmosphere. Good to meet friends for a couple of quiet of beers without the hectic city centre Christmas madness. (We didn't eat in there).

Had a very enjoyable pint of Guinness in this very busy pub at Christmas time (Fri 20th Dec). Great atmosphere, good service from the bar staff, nice friendly crowd. We enjoyed it!

Came here for a couple of midweek pints with the lads after work this week. I’ve gotta say what a fantastic boozer this is and I say this mainly because of the lad Ellis who was running the bar on his own that night. What a credit he is to the pub, nothing was too much trouble for him, very friendly and yet very professional, made us feel right at home. Will definitely be coming here again, thanks Ellis for a brilliant evening!

Great pub ‘The Excy’ to celebrate my retirement last Friday! Great night and Rachel and the Excy team were fabulous - thank you so much - we had the BEST time! Booked the back room with a gorgeous buffet and everyone had a proper old fashioned fun night in the pub! xx

The Excelsior is a classic old school city centre pub, too few of which are left sadly. That makes it all the more of a pleasure to visit those that remain. A great selection of beers, timeless atmosphere and super friendly staff make a winning combination.

Called in for a drink , ended up staying till late .was a buffett on , excellent various choices .

A cozy pub with good beer. When we were there, there was even a fire lit in a small fireplace. Just had something to drink, if there was something to eat, I can't say anything about it.

Busy little pub with a mixture of locals, students and tourists,it's has a good beer selection we never had anything to eat there.

Visited Liverpool for the weekend and was staying at the Travelodge just across the road. Nipped over to The Excelsior for a pint, ended up staying for a few. This is a brilliant pub away from the hussle and bussle from the city centre. Prices are reasonable, staff are friendly, and the Guinness is good. What more can you ask for. ? This will defo my first port of call whenever I'm in Liverpool again.

Needs a good refurbish, as you can see in the picture the ceiling is still yellow from decades of smoke, 1 of the curtains had fallen down, the hot water tap in the toilets trickled out. A guy next to me asked the staff for a glass mat, she gave him a black tissue despite a whole stack of glass mats by the till.

Came here today... Oli was in charge of the bar today.. A top bloke, really helpful during my visit. The Excelsior is rustic town centre pub with many traditional old English pub features and bags of character.

I am not one for going into town and Drinking. This was a lunch with my Brother and he suggested this pub. It really was a very nice pub as far as I understand these things and their options for alcohol were quite broad and interesting

This place was a pleasant surprise, I just decided to stumble in for a pint. Bright and large space with an expansive central bar that runs 360 degrees. Some folks playing games in the back, a group of girls having a pub day, and a few others watching fifth tier English soccer. Sunshine coming through the windows and a Landlord in hand. Hard to beat.

We were excited to go bc of the good reviwes and the burgers, but we got disappointed! The pubs website is outdated, and there are NO Burgers to order NOR 2 for 1 Cocktails and other drinks to order. The staff simply said, yeah the website is outdated?! U can only get beer there… False promises.

Great location, lively atmosphere and amazing staff. Definitely worth a visit when you're in the area.

Only stayed for 2 pints. Tuesday afternoon so the pub wasn't very busy. Lady behind the bar was very nice.

great pub on the edge of town, boss selection of beers and all quality and we'll kept didn't have food, well attended for efc away games on the telly, just avoid it when lfc are home, she'd loads of cult/teleclappers just my opinion of course

Popped in for a pint with some old friends. Been here a few times, mostly on a Saturday. Thursday night was quiet, but the weather had a lot to do with that. Good pint of Guinness, as always.

Just popped in for a quick drink before closing after getting off the train . Despite being just before they closed we were greeted with an amazing welcome. Polite and friendly staff. Ellis in particular has made our first night in Liverpool so positive. He was so helpful, chatty and welcoming. Thank you

This is a traditional boozer, fantastic staff, welcoming atmosphere and one of the best pints of Guinness you can get in Liverpool. I have been a few times to watch the Everton games and no matter what you always end up chatting with everyone around you. The burgers look amazing but have not tried one as of yet.

Good pub for evertonians, lots of screens and seating for football, pies are delicious too! X

Honestly the best pint of Guinness I've had in the UK and I travel a lot. Staff really friendly and welcoming. Great music and good vibes! Will definitely be returning!!! 100% Recommend!!

This is a nice pub but the lady behind the bar, Angie, is the star of the show. She is one busy bee. Very attentive to everyone and warm and pleasent with it. She's brilliant.

Very busy Saturday night lots more men in there than women but didn't feel intimidated

Nice place to hang out for early evening beers. Friendly staff. Bar Tender Garriff was cordial and has an awesome attitude towards us. Will be coming again whenever I visit Liverpool.

Top pub, great atmosphere, been very busy the few times we’ve been.

Friendly place. Burgers and food in general are great value and really tasty. Just needs a few more decent ales on keg and cask and it would be a 5 for. Only one cask on when I visited.

Great cask ales, great service, and that wood burning stove adds to the ambiance whilst keeping you toasty!

Now in GBG. Plenty of choice with six handpulls. Coal fire was a bit smokey and getting to one our parties chest , otherwise 5 stars.
