The Dog & Gun Kilby in Blaby

JP and the team at the Dog & Gun recently hosted the wake for my mum's funeral. The food was excellent, the space was perfect, as because it was a Monday lunchtime, we had the pub to ourselves. The team were sensitive and kind, and there was nothing that they could not accommodate for our family. Thank you JP and team. We would completely recommend this as a venue for a wake, especially given its proximity to the Countesthorpe Crematorium. In the lead up to the funeral and wake, we decided to try out the Sunday roast carvery at the Dog & Gun. Delicious. Recommend trying on either a Sunday or a Wednesday.

Dropped in unplanned for Sunday lunch. Staff were delightful and the carvery was just as good. They even arranged the sunshine. It’s a very popular pub and I can see why. Recommended.

Great food atmosphere was very good even the chief came out to check on us and see if we needed anything else we have booked in for Sunday dinner tomorrow will differently be going back. For a meal again

Visited The Dog & Gun in Kilby and had a brilliant time. The hosts were warm and welcoming, the pub classics were cooked to perfection, and the ale selection was top notch. Loved how dog-friendly they are - our pup felt right at home. A cosy spot with great service and delicious food!

What a fantastic Sunday carvery at Dog and Gun! The roast beef was perfectly tender, and the Yorkshire puddings were golden and fluffy, just like homemade. Loads of fresh, seasonal veggies and the creamiest mashed potatoes I’ve had in ages. The gravy? Absolute perfection! The atmosphere was so cosy and welcoming, with friendly chatter around the bar. The staff were lovely, especially JP who kept checking in to make sure we had everything we needed. If you’re after a proper Sunday roast with that ‘home away from home’ vibe, this is the spot. We’ll definitely be back!

Quaint country pub with heart. We were passing through Kilby and stumbled upon this place, what a find! Proper pub grub done right (the Sunday roast was lush), and the staff made us feel like locals. Can’t wait to come back on a weekend walk.

This was our second visit to The Dog & Gun for Sunday Lunch. On both occasions the food was delicious and being a carvery, portions were as big as you wanted to make them. There was a choice of beef, pork or turkey (can have a slice of each) roast and mashed potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and a good selection of vegetables. The staff were all pleasant and friendly and there’s a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. We all enjoyed the meal and it was good value for money.

I'm a regular here as the food is so good and the atmosphere great. Friendly obliging staff always give you a good welcome.

Fabulous place to bring family and friends. Food was lovely and a very relaxing atmosphere. Big green space space in the back for kids. Coming back for the summer.

Staff very attentive, good beers, Sunday carvery is a must but be sure to book in advance. Also now doing midweek carvery on Wednesday evening.

Came on a Sunday for the carvery. Group of 5 including 2 children. It’s was bustling but not too overcrowded. Food was incredibly good! Staff were lovely and polite. Pudding was ace! Will definitely be back x

Just had an excellent carvery at The Dog and Gun! Huge portions, plenty of meat and you can have them all! Amazing roasties! Pigs and blankets and a great choice of veg all for £15! The place was busy with a great atmosphere. Will definitely return maybe next Sunday!

Attended yesterday with a group of 16. The carvery was amazing, great portions of meat and the food was all cooked really well. The staff and owner were really nice and have bought this pub up to the level of potential it's always had. There was a slight confusion regarding our booking which was handled superbly. Will definitley be coming back.

Visited the Dog n Gun for the first time since its been under new ownership. The Sunday Carvery was excellent, the best I have had for a long time.

We have just had one of the best Sunday lunch carvery here. Great food nice atmosphere, nice and relaxed compared to other carvery places. We will be back!

Today, we were harassed by two racists people in this cafe. While we were taking photos outside with my friend, they knocked on the window and showed racist attitudes.

I have Just enjoyed a lovely Sunday carvery, I had the vegetarian option of nut roast and my husband had beef and pork and it was delicious. Plenty of vegetables including cauliflower cheese, roasted parsnips, carrots, broccoli, cabbage, roasted onions and the best roast potatoes I’ve had in ages. Very friendly and helpful staff, excellent value for money, would definitely recommend a visit.

Fillet steak with homemade mushroom sauce……. Absolutely banging! Great service and a really friendly atmosphere. The landlady was super friendly and allowed our dogs in which was amazing. We will definitely be visiting again soon for another delicious steak. Only downside was we had to go home :-(

The best carvery I have actually eaten. We also stayed the night in our campervan which was great. Lots of space and we could hear the owls.

Lovely pub , good food carvery spot on but gravy was thin and watery, have been over for classic car meetings 3 times now and nothing ! Embarrassing when you have invited friends to join us please stop advertising events that do not happen , the the bar person not welcoming had a bit of an attitude even though we were pleasant and polite she was unresponsive and didn't care less , she was older bar person wearing an orange and white dress , again love the place but a bar person left it feeling not welcoming.

Went last Friday lunchtime (6 of us) for a meal. Surprised when we were handed one hand written menu between us. 3 ordered the fish & chips, they all said it was good and hot - other 3 had gammon which wasn't that good. Meat was tough, fried egg hard. For desert two of us ordered roulade which was very cold, verging on still defrosting. Cream came in a gravy boat. We understand the pub has been refurbished to quite a high standard to what it used to be likeand only recently reopened.but l feel that delaying the opening for a week or so would have been beneficial to the wait staff and chef. After all of the foregoing we will give them another chance once they have become more established.

Went here for a wake to celebrate the life of a very good friend. Easy to find with a huge car park. Buffet was served which contained good selection of sandwiches, 🍕 slices, quiche with other nibbles. I just wish a cocktail stick with a note saying what the fillings are and what the other nibbles on plates were. Quite difficult to choose if you have any allergies if you don't know.

Popped in today to the newly renovated pub. Had a warm welcome and enjoyed a fabulous meat. I recommend the Hunters Chicken. Poss best ive ever had. Thank-you

Went Wednesday lunch expecting a comprehensive and good priced range of menus as seen on the web. Actuality was the opposite. We don't have a website was the response, that was the previous owners We can't change it. So beware of what you see on the internet. In practice the menu was adequate and all four dishes were fine with service pleasant. A little slow but assume that was because food was individually prepared and caused no problems. Good portions leaving no room for dessert! Get the web sorted and this will be 5 star.

Didn't have a meal , call in travelling fro A to B. Nice pint. Maybe go for a meal another time. Staff friendly.

I arranged a summer barbecue at the Dog and Gun for our local walking club. From our first meeting Charlotte was very helpful and accommodating. On the day of the barbecue we couldn't have asked for more. The food was plentiful and delicious. The lady that served the barbecue Jay was extremely efficient and although there were 46 of us, we were all served quickly. To top it all off Charlotte had arranged for a singer to come along and provide us with an afternoon of fabulous entertainment from the 50s through to the 80s. A big thank you to Charlotte and her team for providing us with a wonderful afternoon of good food and entertainment.

What a lovely pub, we've just got home after a fabulous karaoke night, Really friendly /Land lady and landlord, and really friendly appreciative crowd, will come again for sure, Thanks for a great night Tims King of the road Karaoke!.. xx

Land lady very nice. Food is not super quick but everything is freshly cooked and that is how we like it. We went on a Wednesday lunchtime and it was busy which show's how popular it is. Food was lovely so we had a nice experience.

We visited here for a child's party. Mixed review which is why I gave it 3 stars. The outdoor space was really good, plenty of seating and having the bouncy castle for the kids was a perk. Ample car parking too. The food we had was ok, fairly priced. Cheesy chips were good, nachos were really good. We also had the roast which could've been better. The meat was dry and chewy, roasties were perfect and the Yorkshire pudding was excellent! I enjoyed the veg but my partner said it was raw (it really wasn't but all personal choice!). The thing that lowered the score was the toilets. They were really outdated and dirty. The ladies was dark with no light switch to be seen and the changing mat was almost unusable! Moving round a small cubicle with a wriggly toddler whilst trying to pull the table down and shut the door was really difficult. Why is the table in the cubicle?! There was also a dirty mat on entrance to the pub which made the rest of the space look tired. The staff were really friendly though and we were served quickly especially considering how busy they were.

Limited cask ales, the outside was nice and spacious, with a few families enjoying the area.

Meat very tough, the whole meal wasn't very hot. Toilets were horrendous, the whole place could do with a good clean. I won't be going back for a long time.

Food excellent. Staff very friendly. Restaurant area very cold as no heating except for two little heaters on low, had to keep coat on although nice bar area, toilets etc had central heating. For our next visit it needs better heating in the restaurant.

The restaurant was very cold no heating. The food was average not much ambience, staff were friendly enough. We would not go again. Overall not a very good experience.

Shocking place for food!! Went to night with 3 others and there was 2 other tables already there,waited over an hour for are food on a bloodt tuesday!! and when it can came out it was horrible would never go back
