The Delaval Arms in Northumberland

Great service and delicious food. GF available on most dishes. I have know about this pub for years but never visited until it was recommended by a friend for an evening meal. We returned a week later with another friend.

Amazing food definitely worth a visit, also dog friendly

Booked for Sunday lunch while in the area as I'd heard the pub had a long standing reputation for great food. Was impressed by the decor, very cool take on a traditional pub. Service was first class , staff looked after us very well, the selection of beer was also first class. The big let down was the roast I'm afraid , specifically the beef which was tough and full of sinew, we struggled to cut it and my parter left most of hers .Im not a butcher but looked like some brisket which needed slow cooking for 4 hours not a joint to be served pink.The chef should never have sent it out and considering the rest of the meal was superb I'm surprised, possibly the ran short at as we were there later in the day. Shame as we really liked the place but left feeling disappointed.

Had an impromptu visit here today.lovely friendly girl welcomed us in a very good start I thought.we sat in the cosy fire room recommended by lovely Beth the server.she came and took out drinks order very polite she was.i asked about gluten free options and all were marked out on the menu.i went for the like butter chicken with cream cheesey potatoes and veg with pepper sauce .it was brought out like something from masterchef very well presented.my partner got the beef stottie with mint on beef and chips with gravy.both were beautiful and hot and fresh.best meal I've had in about a year.i try a lot of places.cant recommend enough and will be back to try the beautiful Sunday dinner .12/10 was amazing 😍😍😍

Sunday lunch was absolutely gorgeous, everything was well seasoned, VERY tasty and portions were perfect. Only fault would be that the meat could have been a bit hotter but beef melted in the mouth and couldn’t fault flavour. Definitely will be back!

We've visited & eaten here twice now, while out for a walk along the coast. There has been a lot of money spent on decor, and it has the potential to be a real gold mine given the location, but sadly for us, despite the food being good, we probably won't return. The whole pub is dirty - as an ex pub manager, I always look at details, and things like the cleanliness of the loos make me question kitchen hygiene. Everywhere needs a thorough deep clean to bring it up to a good standard. If you're not bothered by dust & dirt, & only looking for good grub & drink, then it's fine, but not for me.

Bloody lovely, had a Sunday dinner here. The food arrived quickly and the portion size is very good, I struggled to finish because of the size. Tasted incredible, I believe they mix mint sauce into the gravy which makes a lovely flavour. Would recommend

Staff and service fantastic, good atmosphere but the food was nothing out of the ordinary. Beef dinner arrived warm not hot, lacked gravy. Mackerel starter was nice. To be fair it was Christmas fayre and they were quite busy so it maybe better through the year. All in all was a nice evening.

Such a really nice place to celebrate with a really lovely view and chilled out surroundings. we thought the staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was really nice and we had everything we needed to enjoy this special day so thank you to you all.

Would have left zero stars, called in recently for a drink while out in a walk with family, ordered 6 drinks 3 adults 3 children, we sat out the back in the dining area. Locals made us feel awkward, staring at us as they passed. Made us feel kind of unwelcome but what sealed the unwelcome feeling were the rude members of staff, my step daughter was peckish and wanted to order some food, to be told “we don’t serve walk ins”. Disgusted we drank our drinks and left. We won’t be returning. How can a pub which serves bar food, not serve food to ‘walk ins’? Disgraceful service. Strongly advise not to attend this venue. Especially for bar food. After a reply posted below from the owner asking if I was sure I had the right establishment, I would like to confirm that yes I have the right establishment The Deleval Arms situated on the small roundabout at Seaton Sluice NE264RL. And as for welcoming everyone we certainly weren’t welcome when we came. And you certainly weren’t too full to serve my step daughter as the bar was quite empty. There were a group of five lads came through the back past us and the girls were running back and forward with food for them but we couldn’t order any as you don’t serve ‘walk in’s’ and on that note I’d like to say, if you wish to discuss it further you could leave an email address at which point I could contact you as other poor establishments we’ve visited have done in the past. Because this interaction isn’t doing your business any favours, especially since you offer no apology only question if I’m talking about the right venue.

We recently had our wedding party at the Delaval Arms. The location, venue , building, Sea View room and private outdoor garden terrace were perfect. Beth created a beautiful dressing room for the bride and groom. Beautiful decor, fabulous sea views ,bespoke furniture plus complimentary Prosecco. It was a quiet area for me (the bride) To relax. It worked. Beth was our hostess for the evening. She and the restofthe staff kept the party running smoothly. It was relaxed and informal with an excellent atmosphere. The food was fantastic. Everyone loved it. Compliments to the chef. I highly recommend the Delaval Arms.

What a fantastic place to chill on a Sunday afternoon! My partner and I under advice from the bar staff ordered a local beer that was out of this world! Friendly staff and the customers were all lovely too! Thank you for a great time!

Popped in on Friday (27/09) for lunch with friends & as my previous visit….food, staff & atmosphere all excellent! Friends were very impressed and we can recommend the Rib Eye Steak, Mushroom Risotto and Chicken Breast with diced vegetables. Thank you to one & all.

A lovely.place to stop off on your walk.or drive along the coast. Rooms either side of entrance with a separate bar area and plenty outside seating , Food is spot in with a great choice, staff are always welcoming and friendly

We booked an evening meal and we were pleased our dog was welcome in the bar snug, the ideal place for her. Great atmosphere in the bar. Felt immediately at home. Very friendly staff. Order taken and service all at the right pace. The pint of Guinness was the best poured I've seen for a long time. We shall hasten back.

We were stopping on campsite next door ....we had drinks first time we went ...then booked in for Sunday lunch ....the food was brilliant the staff were very friendly and attentive ....only went in the bar but that was decorated very nicely ....when in area again will defo go back...and can also recommend......

Visited several times and also had Sunday lunch. Probably the best beef I've eaten, could have done with a cauliflower cheese as an extra 😉

We had food here and oh my, it was soooooo lovely. Well cooked and amazing taste. I fully recommend the lamb with pesto mash. Beautiful!!! The staff here are so friendly and welcoming, and always serve with a smile. It's so lovely to see staff with smiley faces and love for what they do. Thank you so much, see you next year.

This was our second visit here and it did not disappoint. Had the trio of meat sunday lunch and wow. Cooked to perfection 👌 will definitely be back

Absolute rip off...paid £18 for a small Cumberland sausage and mashed potato, someone else ordered the chicken, we all left hungry...never again

Only visited at lunchtime. The food was very good as was the selection of beers. Dog friendly as were the staff. 😉since been back for another excellent lunch and Sunday lunch. Can’t fault the place, a really refreshing change.

Had a lovely Sunday dinner at The Delaval Arms at the weekend and would highly recommend. Booked online and Sam rang us in advance to offer us a better table at a slightly earlier time to accommodate our toddler and baby in a pram. Friendly staff, very attentive. Food was excellent and my 2.5 year old son enjoyed too. The kids Sunday dinner was quite large, enough for me to be honest, all very nice and will certainly return. Will try desserts next time too as they looked lovely!

We ate 2 nights in the trot here and cannot fault the food or the quality, service was excellent too. The menu has just the right amount of choice and think we’d come back to the nearby campsite just for a meal if we were in the area. Excellent value for money too 🤪

Ordered fish finger sandwich which was advertised as being served in bread with lettuce & tartar sauce. Mine was served in a ciabatta, with lettuce & tartar sauce plus an additional sauce - possibly pesto. The fish in the fish fingers was yellowish in colour with very little taste. Disappointing.

This old pub has recently been refurbished but has been done to still keep its old pub feel so lots of character and atmosphere food is excellent beer well kept really nice place

I had a great evening at the Delaval Arms with two friends last night. The atmosphere was really welcoming with a good vibe throughout the pub. The food was delicious! I had the stuffed mushrooms for a starter which was amazing, followed by the beef burger washed down with a refreshing pint of Cruzcampo. For dessert, I couldn't resist trying the Sticky Toffee Pud, and it didn't disappoint! We all had a great time catching up. All the service was quick and friendly. I'll definitely be returning soon!

Had Sunday dinner as part of a group booking in the upstairs room. What a beautiful room with great views to Whitley bay despite the sea fret. We were a large group but our server coped brilliantly and it wasn’t too long a wait for the food. I ordered the small beef dinner which was almost perfect. The let down was that the beef wasn’t the expected pink as the menu suggested. It was tasty and we had plenty of veg to choose from. I do wonder if the veg portions would be the same had I been eating in a couple something I’m planning on going back to test. Some of the group got deserts which looked amazing with the cheese cake being called delicious. One other downside were the upstairs toilets which looked like they could have done with a good clean. Overall a good value dinner in beautiful surroundings and I would recommend.

We had my mums wake here a few weeks ago in the upstairs lounge. The buffet was great, not your usual beige food. The team were lovely and the view was fab. Nothing was too much trouble.

Walk stopped in for sandwich and drink. Not cheapest but reasonable

Had the Haddock and chips. Was good enough to rival or even better than any chip shop. Absolutely fabulous! The venue is lovely and the staff were very helpful and very friendly. Only thing is theres a rather deep pot hole on exit of the car park. Other than that it's Excellent!

Great pub for a drink, friendly service and staff

Visited 4 times now and never had a bad meal. Staff are always so polite and patient, food arrives quickly but always seems freshly made. Price is very reasonable for the portion size too - our Sunday roast was about £15 each for the meal but the quality made it worth more. Home made Yorkshire puddings, bowls of fresh veg and good meat portions too. If you want a negative thing to say then the table wobbled a little - but who cares! It's a cosy pub lunch with a quality menu.

Had Sunday lunch in the bar with our 2 dogs. One of the nicest dinners around, good beers and excellent service. I'm not gluten free but if you are all the dinners can be gluten free.

Great option for a Sunday dinner after a walk from the lighthouse

Fantastic Sunday dinner. The beef was melt in your mouth good and full of taste. Service was excellent and kind. We were a large group with kids at the end of service and everything was still spot on. The decor is beautiful and the seating is comfortable. Would recommend and definitely go again.

We had to wait 45 minutes until the waitress informed us that the printer ran out of ink this stopped the Chef receiving our order . When they finally arrived one meal stone cold the other was Pink beef which was the total opposite. The expectation was so far fetched it was laughable, this happened twice to both meal so we left the premises. The Delaval Arms should really look into hiring a new chef

We came into this pub for a drink as we were in the area and wasn't planning on having any food, as being a vegetarian with coeliac disease, it's not always easy to be accommodated. The pub has a nice relaxing and friendly feel and is dog friendly, we were told on entry that we could have a bowl of water for the dog if we needed. A bonus straight away. After having a drink we thought we'd ask for a menu and a lady named Sam brought them over to us and asked if we had any food allergies. I said that I was a veggie coeliac and she informed us that most of the food on the menu was gluten free. I had mushroom stroganoff which is the best I've tasted, and the other half had a burger and chips, which he said was delicious. I also had chips as a side which were home made and came with a dip. We both also had home made sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. Delicious. What a find of a pub with friendly staff, a lovely atmosphere and extremely tasty food. For a main and pudding and one side it was around £21 per person. We will definitely return when we are in the area. Please keep it up as having coeliac disease can make you feel like a second class citizen. I once got offered a bowl of vegetables as a meal at a pub which I politely declined!! Thank you for the lovely food and an enjoyable evening. We will return. No photographs unfortunately, we were too busy enjoying the food!

Fantastic pre Mothers Day with the family. All meals delicious but a special mention for the pork dish which was outstanding - beautifully cooked, just oozing with flavour and served with tasty accompaniments.

The Delaval Arms had my wife and I for my wife's birthday lunch. Each course left us feeling very fulfilled. In my opinion the afternoon went very quickly there, although we ate for an hour ago. The history there runs deep into the tradition of what it's like to live locally. We were able to savour some of that tradition by what we ate there. I'd recommend The Delaval Arms to all. Sometimes pubs are intimidating if your not from this part of the woods, but there was none of that there. We were made to feel welcome by the staff, with good good grub and a canny atmosphere. We'll go again, without a doubt.

The best Sunday lunch I've had..very welcoming atmosphere with exceptional staff who are so friendly especially Beth and Erin who looked after us. The pork belly was cooked to perfection..we can't wait to visit again soon!!

Great location overlooking St Marys lighthouse, really lovely pub, the food was fabulous, we had the fish n chips reasonable value at 14.50, the service was excellent polite and prompt staff. Recommended! 👍

Best steak dinner I've had in a long while

We came here on a busy Saturday afternoon as a party of 3 with our 8 year old son to celebrate my husband’s birthday and we couldn’t have had a better experience. The staff were all so friendly and approachable (particularly Sam, who took the time to chat to our son and compliment his good manners!) The food was excellent in terms of variety of options and was also brilliant value. My husband had the pork belly which he said was delicious, my son had the kids’ penne pasta and I had a chicken and pesto sandwich. Even though the place was busy, there was a lovely atmosphere and we never felt rushed or crowded. I’d definitely recommend trying this place - you will not be disappointed!

Best Sunday dinner at a pub I've had for ages. Restaurant quality food. Real ales, great atmosphere, and very friendly staff. Dog friendly too. You need to book at weekends especially, it's not surprising that's it chocka.

Very small inside, food taste was very good, quite pricey for the portion size, although my wife had the fish and chips and her portion size was great I had the prime rib steak and for £24 it was rather small

This used to be a great place to visit for some outstanding craft ales. Since the closure of the micro brewery, the offering has been poor. No longer bother going

Can't share reviews on the food. But as a local pub. At least 8 times we have gone up hoping to have a drink in the bar to find the place closed. Tonight boxing day 8pm walked up closed. Have been in and been kicked out (called time ay 9pm) when there were many people still drinking either the staff decide when they want to go home or the owners have a minimum limit of paying patrons to keep the doors open. Massivs shame as this place used to be half decent now no more.

Popped in for a quick drink today, was a very nice pub, seemed a lot bigger inside than I thought. Haven't had any food here but will at some point. The Sunday dinners look canny good from what I saw. [Edit] Have been here for food (back in August 2023) as it was really good! Staff were canny and will deff try get back here for some scran again!

Dog friendly (in the bar) always feels weird walking into a pub with a pup to ask (please put it in your description, and a note on your door). Food was amazing and staff friendly to both me, mum, and the pup even with a friendly woof contest between him and another pup. We'll definitely be visiting next time I'm up in the north east. Thank you, don't get to spend much time with mum.

The Deleval arms visit excellent as normal but our first time for Sunday lunch, and wasn't disappointed. Well done to Chris, Joey and Luke, meat was perfect, portions were very good and delicious vegetable's. As for the desserts amazing sticky toffee pudding and even sorted me custard as do like ice cream ...Erin's service was polite, quick and friendly fabulous customer service. A definite recommend visit all you will enjoy 👍

Always enjoy coming here for delicious food. Being celiac it can be hard to find places to eat where the gluten free option isn't just an afterthought. Not only are they incredibly accommodating of allergies and gluten free, the food is also amazing and it's a joy to eat. Staff are wonderful, decor is gorgeous and the vibe is just very relaxed, cosy and welcoming. Probably one of my favourite places to go. Highly recommended. Great value too.
