A beautiful location, sitting out at the rear of the pub overlooking the river, there was live music as well, great place.

Came in as my other half pestered me even though I’d given up on the place (see previous reviews). I don’t know how such a lovely pub can do it so wrong. One person serving the two bars as 3 other staff wanders around putting glasses away. My wife asked if they were serving, to be told they had to put glasses away! So leave 8 people waiting instead. Joke. My favourite was when a staff member served a dog some water before serving paying customers! I can but laugh. And to top it off £6.95 for a pint!! Are we in Chelsea?! Anyway. Last time for me. I’ve told my wife she can go on her own or her friends next time. I’m off to quite literally anywhere else. Good views. Nothing else.

The crown in manningtree has lovely views from the beer garden however everything else was lacking. We were seated at a table that had definitely not been wiped despite the availability of at least six other tables, and then we waited around forty minutes for someone to take our order, no one ever came so we decided we’d have to order our food at the bar. Note: it was not that busy. When we got to the bar to order there were three girls just having a chat and laughing. We then went back to the table where our drinks had been placed however no one had bothered to take the menus away. When the food came it was lackluster, to pay nearly twenty pounds for a roast dinner you would expect there to be more than three potatoes a Yorkshire pudding and a hunk of meat. Cauliflower cheese, stuffing and anything else you’d expect on a roast were extras you could add for around four pounds each. Who in their right mind would pay an extra £7.50 when they’re already paying £18.75 for an incomplete meal. Overall, staff were inattentive, food was overpriced and I will not be returning any time soon.

The Crown is one of our local favourites, we really enjoy the outside terrace with a selection of rank as to sit at all with river views, the resteruant is a large glass house construction and affords you shelter and river view, which really is the beat feature. staff friendly and helpful, prices seems fair, good selection of beers but we haven't tried the food there yet, though always a lot of people eating whenever we visit. Small car park though there is plenty if street parking available. Lovely village setting and the bar has that country pub feel. Sad to say the vegan food offering has suffered , it used to be good now its not ,but still a lovely pub in a great location. Ow has elevated decking with views of the river.had the food and before the new owners it used to be good, now its not so good and the vegan offering is just awful. Still great to sit out back with a beer and look at the river.

We came for Sunday lunch, the roast potatoes where so hard and the belly pork was so chewy you could not shallow it. Gravy was a splash on the plate. The lady then lean over the top of my friend to put mint sauce on her plate(that's just so rude). I had the waiter but in my face while he patted the dog(very rude). We order sweet, the banoffee pie was like jelly on the plate , we said there was no base on it and got no response. The adult belly pork got sent back because it was not good. Got told that the beef would be chewy, so the we should have the lamb. Sweet never got sorted. To top it off we were being watch by the staff through the arch way and it felt very uncomfortable

We visited for lunch on Saturday 15th March. While the staff were friendly to start with and really welcomed our dog, our concerns grew as we ordered lunch and had to wait over an hour. In the meantime, there were lots of dogs and although it's nice to have a dog-friendly pub/restaurant, it was quite alarming to see staff constantly stroking and feed the dogs treats and serving food at the same time (one labrador was being fed treats and really slobbering over the waitresses's fingers). We ordered fish and chips which was decent enough, however we ordered a chicken burger which were told would be a breaded chicken burger in a bun with chips. When it arrived (an hour later), the bun was burnt, the chicken was a piece of old meat in tomato sauce with cheese that wasn't melted. It was totally inedible and looked unappetizing to say the least. My son ate the chips first and attempted the burger however it was so disgusting we sent it back. Chicken in a tinnned tomato sauce on a bun is not a burger. When we went to pay, they initially refused to take it off the bill and ARGUED that they had informed us it was a chicken in tomato sauce (they didn't and all four of us heard the same thing). The waitor went on to argue with us and told us he made it himself YESTERDAY. We had to really insist they take this uneaten burger off the bill which they did, reluctantly and rudely. I definitely do not recommend for food, maybe a drink.

Went for lunch today, the food took 1 hour to come out of the kitchen! 2 of us had steak - they looked like the chef had thrown the food on the plate & with no garnish or care. We asked for both to be cooked medium rare but they came out as medium/well done & very chewy - we complained and were told the chef said that is how they cook them & we were wrong! We asked for 1 steak to be cooked again - it took 15 minutes to come back out (by which time the others had finished their food already) and it was just the same - no pink on the inside at all showing it was med/well done again. The customers on the table next to us came over to tell us that their food was cold and they waited ages too and were not happy either. Such a shame - it’s a great location - the front of house staff looked rushed off their feet. Maybe the kitchen were not prepared for a busy sunny day. I do know that cooking steaks & deep frying scampi & chips does not take 1 hour to cook! For the Chef to argue about the steak which was clearly not cooked medium/rare was very disappointing - working in the hotel trade for 12 years, I do know the correct way of cooking a steak!

I’m very disappointed with how this pub has gone down hill since I gave it a 5 star rating in March. My wife is allergic to onions. Back in March I said how pleased I was that the chef was able to adapt a dish to accommodate her and had done so on previously. On the last three occasions she was advised that this was not possible! On this most recent occasion my wife finished up with scampi and chips and I had ‘fish’ and chips as there was nothing on the ‘specials menu’ that appealed whereas back in March and prior to that I was spoilt for choice. Our meals were very basic, small portions and overpriced. Unfortunately we will not be returning and judging by a number of recent reviews we are not alone. Such a pity.

Poor food - tastless and bad quality, chaotic service, plates and glasses not collected, toilets a mess, tables sticky and dirty. It's getting worse by the second, the management clearly aren't taking on feedback and we shall be avoiding now having given it a couple of chances and absolutely no change - in fact it's getting worse on every count! It appears glaringly obvious from the reviews all is not well! We have tried to help improve with feedback, but alas it falls on deaf ears. Visit the The Red Lion or The Brantham Bull instead - properly run, scrummy food and drinks, community spirited establishments and everything a pub should be!

It burned my lips, tongue & the inside of my mouth. It wasn't that I didn't like it, I just couldn't eat it for the discomfort. I explained this to the waiting staff, who took it away. I was told that arrabbiata is always hot, & I should have known. Well I didn't know, & there was no indication on the menu that it would be inedibly hot. A strange experience. Visited with family and sat outside in their revamped setting which is very nice. Sadly, It stopped there to be honest, the service was strange and thinking about it I can only guess that they were trying to get us out as soon as possible to make way for more dining customers. The waitress was constantly asking us if we wanted more drinks as if she was gauging if we were leaving soon, she even asked us when we were halfway through our drinks whether or not we were thinking of having more drinks with the card machine in her hand!! The food was another story as we have been here a number of times and it’s always been nice. Maybe it has new owners as the menu has changed and not for the better, not as much choice. I will list the things that annoyed me and spoilt my lunch with my family otherwise I’ll be here all day! My bread and my daughters bread was stale and hard Ordered drinks when food arrived and had to ask where they were when we were finished our food. None of us had a drink with our food. We were then served warm drinks, they had clearly been sat on the bar Served food and had to ask for cutlery to be told they were waiting for it! Had to ask for condiments then again ask for salt to be thrown 3 packets (for 6 of us) by a miserable waitress who I observed throughout the time I was there. She appeared to not want to be there at all My husbands fish (fish and chips) was very dry and tasteless Didn’t clear the plates away and we had 2 further drinks Constantly harassed to pay the bill, I witnessed the waitress going from table to table trying to get people to pay. Such a shame and I really hope they sort it out as it is usually a nice place to eat and drink.

We came for lunch on Monday 11th Sept 2023. We’d not been here for a few years, so was pleasantly impressed when we went outside to the dinning area/patio. This has been done up to a nice standard. We sat at table 64 in the shade with a nice view of the water front. We sat waiting to order, not realising that you had to go up to the bar to order. They do small tasting plates, we got 5 for £29, and had a side order of onion rings. The food was lovely and full of flavour, and there was certainly enough, we didn’t eat it all. Very happy that they served my favourite beer Cruzcampo, be warned this beer will soon take over the world! Very dog friendly, with lots of well behaved dogs. Overall very impressed. Just a couple of bugs for me. The floor around our table had a few roast potatoes scattered about from the day before. And the tables being a little too close together, listening to a table of 4 next to us talk crap was painful, and if you read this the table of four…..people don’t want to hear about your sex life! We will definitely be back though.

Booked for a business meeting, but disappointed that breakfast not included until 9am. However we were advised to visit Cafe Rio just down the High Street or Tesco Express across the road. So no breakfast as we had to be back at work by 9am….. Shocking

Went for a second visit since our friends moved to Manningtree. We weren’t hugely impressed last time but our friends wanted to try again. I have to admit the outside is really nice but was spoilt by very loud youths shouting and smoking in non smoking areas. Maybe that’s just a weekend thing? Staff didn’t seem to mind it happening. We decided to have some of the sharing plates. My wife is a veggie so ordered the veggie option of nachos. We actually couldn’t believe when we were served a bowl of cheap nachos topped with some melted cheese! That’s all. No salsa, beans etc just melted cheese. £7! We asked to speak to the manager who didn’t come and just sent a young bar staff to explain that’s the normal veggie option and we could replace it if we wanted. I really hope this was a mistake coz that’s just embarrassing. We went inside in the end as outside was like being in Ibiza with all the noise and 18 year olds. Beautiful scenery outside but sadly I’m just not convinced on the rest.

Poor service staff more interested in flirting than serving waiting customers. Sat waiting for ages but not once asked by staff if I needed to order food.

Lovely place. Had really nice meals, at good prices. The views were impressive where we sat outside. Did not book just whent in and asked if they had a table for two, lovely young lady could not have been nicer. Highly recommend. Scampi & chips were great. Wife had some sort of salad she realy enjoyed it. Really nice walk along the river.

I booked this as needed to be in the area, but wow is this a lovely place to stay! You check-in at bar, which was a little disconcerting, however I couldn’t be more wrong; very friendly welcome; stylish, large, spotlessly clean and comfortable room; lovely bathroom, with possibly the strongest shower pressure I’ve ever seen! Location is lovely, Manningtree high street is quite small, but some nice shops; real highlight is the incredible estuary! Which is also visible from bar terrace! I’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels, and whilst this one doesn’t have many other facilities (tho breakfast and dinner available), it’s one of the better ones. Well down Crown!!

Just had a fantastic Sunday lunch experience at the Crown. Our first vist with my family. Inclusive of my two grandsons and FRL "Loxley". The location is fantastic , good quality food: but what made it for us was the environment created by the efficient and friendly staff. Topped off by the Landlord and Landlady who took time to talk to you - and who we found out were dog lovers also. Having their own FRL. BRILLIANT EXPERIENCE creating a chill out Sunday. Thank you... we will be back soon. Steve Gosling

Lovely outdoor seating area with a view, would make an ideal summer pub garden. Although I didn't eat, the food options and plates going past looked great. Would definitely recommend dropping in if you're in the area.
