The Crazy Bear Beaconsfield - Thai Restaurant in South Bucks

After reading reviews I was concerned about our visit but seriously I am shocked people can criticise this place . We used a virgin voucher for 12 courses and champagne. We loved the room where we had our meal. Was cosy and quirky. Very different for us. The staff were incredible. Friendly and efficient service from all the team. We loved our meal. The server couldn’t do Enough for us. I have food intolerances and they carefully checked everything for me. We would totally recommend this place.

have never been treated like an inconvenience as much as we were treated so at this restaurant. Arrived in advance of our booking at 1430 to be told the table wasn't ready and asked to wait in the main bar - when finally advised the table was ready at 1440 we were informed that the kitchen closed at 1500 however not to worry they could cook all of our food at the same time and leave on our table. We were not happy with this and were then informed not a problem the kitchen would stay on later to accommodate (why does a restaurant take a booking for 1430 for a 2 hour slot when they shut at 1500) 40 minutes later we received our complementary glass of champagne and shortly after the starters - we had apologies from the manager who then informed us that the kitchen were having technical issues and that the food would be with us shortly - when the main course was delivered to the table it was lukewarm and had obviously been sat under a hot plate for some time, meats were tough and dried out. We were then approached by the manager to advise that they had another booking for our table at 1600 and that they would need our table before our 2 hour booking slot was ended (again why would you have a booking for 1600 if the kitchen is shut at 1500?). Once our mains were completed and removed and no acknowledgement given to our comments that the food was cold, we were then asked if we would mind settling the bill and having our desserts served in the main hotel lobby as they needed to reset the restaurant for evening service. In summary a very disappointing experience in a restaurant we had been really looking forward to trying, constantly being lied to and having stories changed - would certainly NOT recommend

This was actually one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. First of all, we were waiting for ages with no one to sit us down, then were told our table was not ready for our booking. We were moved downstairs, then straight away upstairs to a table sat next to each other . For paying such a lot for the meal, this was not great. We were then moved again to be told the kitchen was closing and that we needed to hurry. The staff were very inattentive and rude, it felt uncomfortable and rushed. The food was also not great and there was no communication between staff. I would not recommend. The food was also not worth the price, nothing special. An awful experience. Will not be returning- don’t risk the bad reviews!

Decent place to stay, lots of staff on hand to cater for your every need.... unfortunately the room was a little tatty, broken mirrored table and the bath was extremely worn. The evening meal was tasteless too, far from the quality at Stadhampton. Definitely needs a spruce up. 🦁

Totally gone down hill. New owners and Decor is now boring and ‘normal’ - service is inattentive l, Poor inexperienced and it’s packed with people who have ‘vouchers’. Also use to be smart dress code.Now hoodies, trainer and baseball caps are ok 🤷‍♀️

Absolutely appalling service- Staff pathetic and have no common sense- My friend paid for a room in advance with his card for my room. He explained that he would be late and so to allow me into the room on arrival as I had travelled for 2hrs 40 mins to get there- he explained to staff on booking that he would show his card later once he arrived- for the £150 pre authorisation. On arrival , I explained situation and they stated they needed his card, I stated they could use my card to pre authorise as the room had already been paid for and they had taken the money for the room in advance. The hotel manager refused insisting to see his card and only could use his card!! I explained the room has been paid and to use a different for extras / pre authorisation refused- Cara Nagpal is a pathetic operations manager and has no common sense or skill in dealing with g with Custer complaints - and has no idea of how to handle situations: I have never heard or had any staff act so pathetic in my time as a business women. Extremely poor service- this was to celebrate 50th birthdays and our MBE’s - Shameful And appalling—very poor service - and handling of a very simple Situation- felt very biased-

I booked this after much speculation and I was very excited . I like to make my own judgement but I just viewed some of the other comments and I have to agree that it is one of the worst meals I’ve had. The food is sticky and greasy, the meat dry. Nothing nice to say. Most of the other dishes disguised with sauce. The best dish was the crispy seaweed. Very disappointing.

We were really excited to go to this restaurant as part of our package with the crazy bear, but after sitting down and given the menu (this was the set menu) we see that it was extremely poor. We asked to upgrade to the other menu, but was denied, so we continued with the set menu. The set menu came with no sides, so you had to pay for them extra, it was £13 for some pak choi and £8.50 for some terrible rice. The whole meal was one of the worst I have ever had, the satay chicken was so dry, the mains were not only strange, but disgusting and the desert we couldn't eat it was that bad. I would never return. Also I know the theme is meant to be dark, but not near pitch black.

Extremely disappointing. We did the 12 plate Thai menu and they would not let us do separate menus (one vegetarian & one meat). Service was poor and very slow, had to ask 3 times for the bill. They did not have some of the food and the food they did have was not nice. This restaurant is also separate to the crazy bear actual hotel which is a shame. I would not recommend nor return, it is not worth the money at all.

The food was dry it was worse then my local Chinese/ Thai and that only cost 20£ never ever come here absolutely terrible and they don’t know the law with having a drink with a meal if under 18 ask for the boss to come out but he or she didn’t 👎

A birthday Dinner for 8 and were offered 9.30pm seating. Late but we thought would be worth the wait. Arrived to be told that we couldn’t order off the a la carte and got stung for the £65 a head sharing menu. Like others in the comments, were immediately told the kitchen was closing and to hurry. Starter food was all greasy deep fried.main course arrived before the starters were finished. The food was average at best. No genuine Thai flavours, every dish tasted the same. Although the staff were lovely it felt chaotic and lacking in the finesse expected for this place/price. The staff were cleaning the restaurant around us as we were hurried to finish. Really disappointing for what was supposed to be a special occasion. Why offer late sittings?!! Would not go again nor recommend.

I took my mum for lunch NYE, the table was poor, right in front of the servers station although we were the first guests. As others mentioned considering the prices, the food is average. One of the dishes we ordered was the black cod. My half had 6 large fish bones, over an inch long and most of them thick. I’ve eaten this dish around the world and it was the worst prepared and tasting I have experienced. I told the waiting staff, the kitchen apologised. I was slapped with a 13.5% service charge to boot. I emailed the manager, Frank Stanford, who said bones can be in the dish, sure but not that many large ones, it was very unpleasant to eat. I replied that his answer wasn’t satisfactory to me, no response since. Won’t go back, could have had a much better meal, ambiance and service elsewhere

I love Thai food so I was expecting big things from the 12 dish experience I bought from virgin experience however most of the dishes weren't that flavourful and we left feeling slightly disappointed. They also had hidden costs on top of the voucher by adding on a service charge. We paid the service charge but to be honest service was slow and they were clearly understaffed. It was fine overall but overpriced for what it is.

First time I’ve put my faith in a restaurant to do my Christmas Dinner. Due to house renovations we decided to do Christmas dinner out and as we’ve always had a great experience at Crazy Bear we tried them for Christmas Dinner. Amazing food, service and staff. Thank you to all the chefs and waiting team who delivered an exceptional Christmas Day experience.

We booked onto the Thai tasting menu and all of the dishes were absolutely superb. The drinks are expensive but the food and experience is definitely worth it.

Six of us for a celebration. The first thing that greets you is the overwhelming 'music'. A polite request for it to be turned down a little to enable conversation was met with the response that it was controlled from the hotel a few doors away and the restaurant has no control over it! Some of the music was OK but it prevented easy conversation. Drinks ordered but one forgotten until reminded. Main courses arrived but one had been forgotten/not ordered. Food was generally quite good but I would describe it as Thai style, not really authentic Thai e.g. lamb jungle curry when lamb is simply not used in Thailand due to a lack of sheep. The prices are high and what really grated was the 'optional' 13.5% service charge. with drinks the lunch worked out at over £80 per head. The decor is interesting but, frankly, a little weird. Overall nothing special and overpriced.

Was a bit sceptical about this place after reading reviews. Had the Thai 12 course. The food was lovely. What made the experience great was the hostess. An Italian girl (federica). She was so lovely, chatty and made it really special.

Extremely expensive for the food we received,so dark we had to use a phone torch to see menu and food. Toilet so dark I do find the wash basin . Don't go unless you want to be fleeced!

Was bought the 12 plate taster menu as a 30th birthday present. Was super excited having not been back here in a few years. Can honestly say it was the most disgusting restaurant meals I’ve had for a long long time. We sent back some of the dishes as the pork was completely solid, popcorn stale, pad Thai was a mound of stuck together noodles and just three prawns! I would give this 0 stars if I could. They then charged us gratuity on the voucher bought as a present - what a horrendous policy. There should be no hidden fees. Won’t ever be back and word of mouth spreads quickly as we are both local.

Generally a nice meal. We had a 12 course menu, sadly my son in laws courses from the a la carte was significantly delayed, we had almost finished our meal before his main appeared. Dessert was a yuzu flavoured dessert but incredibly difficult to taste it. Waitress was keen. My cocktail was overwhelmed by ginger. Toilets clean. Espresso coffee was expensive AND cold. Not a bad meal but.....

Nice food but experience marred by the attitude of the hostess. Table booked for 7pm. Thai restaurant difficult to locate so went to main restaurant. Door staff checked our details and directed us to the correct location. At the restaurant gave our details to the hostess in the bar area, who showed us to our table. When giving the menu and pouring the included champagne she told us the table had to be returned by 8:30pm. We questioned this stating the booking was for 7pm, but the hostess insisted her app showed 6:30pm. Even when we showed her the confirmation email showing a 7pm reservation, she insisted it was a 6:30 pm reservation. We stated we would leave when finished as long as it was before 9pm. She indicated that she would check with the reservations team, but made no further contact with us. At 7:10pm we received a call from the restaurant asking where we were as we had a reservation for 7pm, we replied that we were already in the restaurant eating. Surely this would have led to an apology, but no. The food was good, but when leaving we were presented with a bill for £5 for water, and a 13.5% discretionary service charge, using the total amount including the prepaid voucher. Due to the attitude, and total lack of apology we only paid the £5 owed. To add to the confusion we later got an email indicating the reservation had been cancelled, which was sent whilst we were eating

The restaurant is so dark you can’t read the menu. I know energy prices are high but if one needs to use a torch to read the menu then it is too dark. The restaurant is dingy. The Chinese waitress was stern and did not make any effort to make one feel welcomed. I ordered beef mussaman curry for £24.50. The beef was so tough that it was almost inedible. The rice is priced separately. I ordered the cheapest sticky rice and it came in a small bowl for mere £9.00 - seriously? Am I paying for the ambience then? I don’t think so, it just feels like they have something to hide. Probably more than the mucky wine glasses that were waiting on the table. There are much better Thai restaurants in the area. If you charge that kind of money and in addition to that you are expected 13% service charge plus tip - neither of which I paid - if that’s what people want, that’s their choice but I won’t be coming back.

Service really poor, glassware and cutlery dirty and over-hyped over-charged food. Left waiting at table all the time as staff ignored us. Food was fairly nice, but many far better and cheaper alternatives elsewhere.

We booked a Wednesday night dinner in the Thai restaurant to help support local businesses after seeing the restaurant appear on the eat out to help out list. Without the offer we would have booked a Friday or Saturday night. Once we were seated at the table we were told that the restaurant were no longer in the scheme and we had the option the leave if we weren't happy...very very disappointing. Would really like to understand why the restaurant did this, was the admin too much? management, if you read this please share your reasons so that we feel less cheated! thank you.
