The Courtyard in Great Yarmouth

We were surprised by how small and intimate it was, a couple of dishes were off the menu due to supply issues but that can't be helped. All the food was freshly cooked and the service was excellent, in a small place it can be overbearing but it wasn't at all. Tucked in the original side streets this place is a gem!

My husband and I booked about a month in advance to celebrate his birthday. We had a great dining experience previously around 3 years ago. We arrived to find new management had taken over, different menu etc. All I can say is wow! The food was totally delicious even better than our 1st visit. The description of various food options sold our menu decisions. We have never had such an amazing experience. In fact we met up with friends a couple of days later and my husband called just on the off chance of a cancellation. We were so lucky a table for 4 had cancelled! We went straight there and our friends were also totally amazed by the dining. We cannot recommend highly enough! Forget the time when you arrive, the table is yours for the whole evening 🥰

Lovely small Italian tucked away in one of the rows. We managed to book last minute as there had been a cancellation. We had the mixed antipasta bites and bruschetta for starters followed by carbonara and bolognese which were all excellent. I found a new favourite drink ...the Italian cider, definitely worth a try.

Tiny place with only 15 covers but if you can get in the food is fabulous. Starters - bruschetta - very nice, well presented and proportioned. Anti pasto - just right and pretty presentation. Main - mushroom linguine - very good almost too much after the starter. Garlic ciabatta spectacular Pizza - wow! Black olive and anchovies. The first place in uk I’ve found that’ll do this without asking. Second favourite pizza I’ve had, (obviously Franks pizza will alway be my no 1), and if you like spicy ask the chef for chilli oil. Location could be better but, hunt it down it’s worth every step of the journey. Ps. Italian cider @ 6.8% definitely worth a taste. Thanks chef, next time we’re here you’ll be top of the list.

This was a fantastic little restaurant. Daniel was super helpful with our booking & advising if we could walk easily from our hotel. The food was delicious & my 10 year old even said he’d definitely return again too. He loved the story of Daniel going to the restaurant as a child & deciding he one day would own it, which he now does. Great pasta & a life lesson to be determined & follow your dreams!

I have just eaten the best Italian meal ever. My husband and I have just spent our wedding anniversary here. Tiny little restaurant, luckily they had 2 spaces left as we had not booked. The food and staff are amazing. I had the seafood lasagne (which was so fresh) and tasted amazing. A great experience and would return without hesitation. Well done to all.

This little gem of a restaurant is a must do! Hidden in the alleys of yarmouth, norfolk is a unique restaurant. The food is next level and the owner is very attentative to everyone that walks in. We had the sharing board for starter which was so yummy!! I had the spicy meatballs for main and oh boy.. if you aren't sure what to choose I would highly recommend this dish ! 😋 You will be glad you visited courtyard as we have om many visits :)

Amazing little Italian spot tucked away - the owner and chef are so accommodating and helpful with any dietary requirements or other requests, and the menu is really comprehensive. The food is to die for, and portion sizes are extremely generous for the prices. Definitely recommend booking as the restaurant itself is quite small, but it's absolutely worth it!

Not the easiest of places to find but once there it's certainly worth it. It doesn't have many covers so you certainly need to book. On the night we were there the owner had to turn away quite a few people who just turned up. The menu was very good with more than enough choice, they will.even change things if you require a different pasta to what is indicated. We ended up having all 3 courses which we don't normally do, but food was so good. We booked there and then to return in a few weeks time it was so good. Well worth a visit but remember to book

Absolutely fantastic little Italian restaurant! So glad we found it on Google. We were so lucky to be able to make a last minute booking. The owner and chef were so helpful. My daughter has a gluten intolerance and I have a lactose intolerance but that wasn’t an issue. Everything is made fresh to order, so adaptions could be made. We were all very happy with our meals. The surf & hen linguine was delicious! We will definitely be returning to try more options!

The restaurant was tuck away off the beaten track, as you walk in the atmosphere was so lovely right down to the music the service was spot on . All our meals were made fresh . We had tomato and pepper soup, spaghetti bologness and to finish off this amazing lemon trifle . Can't wait to go back with family.

First time here, a complete hidden gem! We had an intimate romantic meal, the food was incredibly fresh and well thought out and the host so welcoming. We tried the super lemon trifle new mess dessert, both were a 'wow' from us! Thank you so much and we will be back!

As always the food was impeccable. We had scallops, mussels, pate for starters all cooked to perfection. Onto mains we had the slow roasted belly pork - trust me you will not be disappointed with this dish! Was perfect in every way. Also had the lasagne which was great. Just had an absolute amazing meal that was delivered to my home.Due to 2nd lockdown ordered takeout which was home delivered & it was just as amazing as eating in the restaurant. Have really missed visiting the restaurant but hand on heart this truly did fill that gap. Pate was so tasty, cod with veg had the most amazing tomato sauce and was cooked to perfection & the sweets well.. ❤️❤️. Lemon tart & salted caramel cheese cake. Well what can I say? We are currently in Great Yarmouth and we always have one nice meal out and after searching Trip Advisor we found this was rated number 1. We were worried we would not get a table so decided to try our luck and phone to book a table. Katy was so good and after speaking with her yesterday she managed to fit us in tonight. The place is small due to restrictions so there are only a handful of tables. On arriving we were greeted like old friends and everything was put in place according to government Guide lines and we felt so safe. The food was out of this world. We have eaten in some of the best restaurants but this is phenomenal and so fresh. The service was excellent, we didn’t want to leave. Prices are comparable to substandard places but should be priced higher in my opinion. Nothing was too much trouble and we would definitely visit again. Thank you for a lovely, enjoyable evening

I cannot praise The Courtyard highly enough. We have eaten there before and love the place. Katy is a great hostess and it is like visiting an old friend. The food was fantastic and plentiful. This is a cosy restaurant, so make sure you book.simply the best.

Nothing I say can do this restaurant justice it is not just a restaurant it is an Experience. A warm friendly greeting and service from Katy as she makes you feel at home, always smiling even through the facemask.This restaurant has a cosy caring atmosphere which really helps you relax and enjoy the exquisite food prepared by Chef dave amazing combination of flavours, amazing portion sizes. Great attention to detail from bringing out fresh water for the table and making sure you always have everything you could Want. For Mr. Magoo below, yes the restaurant is tucked away in the rows of Great Yarmouth but that’s what makes it more quaint and interesting. The very helpful host with a quick call on ya Nokia mark 1 will point you in the right direction if your glasses get too steamed up to find it.On to the restaurant, very cosy and great service and chat from the hosts.Food cooked to perfection, starters and main course well presented and tasty followed by desserts to die for. Menu changes every month with new and exiting dishes. Only 10 or so covers so book early as Boris is doing his best to ruin these small enterprises, ( probably 16 covers normal). We used to go to the Seafood restaurant ( now closed) so this is now our new favourite with top cooking and banter Mr. Magoo would love the food here if he could get a new sat nav and find it although looking at most of his negative reviews he’d be better off with a brummie kebab.Have done most of the restaurants in Norfolk now so top two but very different are......if you want glitz, glamour and have a big cheque book, Pamela’s. If you want good food at a very reasonable price , a good atmosphere and a laugh, The Courtyard is for you

We dropped in for a bite to eat at lunchtime and were surprised with fresh sardines, flatbread and a selection of olives and dips! Great G&T too. It was almost like being in Corfu! Great food and service. Highly recommended.

We have now had 4 visits to The Courtyard, every visit was exceptional.As with many guests, we found the restaurant via TripAdvisor and with minimal online presence (other than a Facebook page) I wasn't sure if it was going to be quite what pretty much every review had raved about but after our go to restaurant for Great Yarmouth visits had closed (The Seafood Restaurant) guest feedback matched what we look for in a special venue.The fun really starts before you arrive, The Courtyard is basically an Oasis in the middle of one of GY famous rows (narrow alleys) when you find it for the first time especially in the dark, it is quite a special feeling. On our most recent visit, the owner Katy was playing Treasure Hunt "Anneka Rice style" with a couple who were struggling to find them, so don't give up if you do get a bit lost!There are 4 tables in use at the moment - which reduces covers further than normal, with these 4 tables there is plenty of space between guests and there is no OTT covid measures in place, just enough to keep you safe. Katy and her sister Sarah look after front of house and Katy's partner Dave looks after the kitchen. Dave's food is mostly of Italian influence and has a rustic feel, typically Prawn & Crayfish Salad or Scallops to start, followed by a simple Lasagne, seabass or steak, maybe creme brulee or lemon tart for dessert. Food is very tasty and well presented. Wine is excellent value and well sourced,most guests choose to have it served by the 1/2 or 1 litre carafe. Throughout the evening you will feel like you are a guest of the family, Katy and Sarah both have the art of service to the letter, friendly, bubbly, cheeky and dead funny without being over familiar, you want to stay all night (Not like that!) On our most recent visits the Harvey Nichols Gold Pepper was a novel talking point. There maybe lots of restaurants closer to home but there is nowhere that makes us feel chilled by the informality, but also spoilt like you are fine dining, that Katy, Dave and Sarah have perfected. We chose to eat at The Courtyard on 3 evenings over a 6 night stay (over 2 visits to the area) but left utterly desperate to return as soon as we could. The final treat is the bill, not just the figure written on it, which is fab (think £30 per head 3 courses average) but the personalisation and pocketful of sweets that you get with it - when we eat these , sometimes a few days later it just brings back many marvellous memories of an utterly fabulous restaurant - Do not hesitate, if you can get a table - grab it, The Courtyard is as popular with locals, as it is with visitors.

Not only some of the best food I’ve had in ages, but the service Katy and Sarah provide is second to none! If you’re in the area and fancy some of Dave’s Italian cooking you can’t go wrong. We had the Scallops Bruschetta, mussels, pan fried cod with Mediterranean vegetables, seafood linguine, Creme Brûlée and profiteroles.

Let me start off with the owners! They are so attentive and friendly! The decor was lovely and the tables were socially distanced!The food was incredibly tasty and very generous in portion sizes! The selection of food was varied!GO HERE.....if you can get a table you’ll be lucky so book in advance! If you don’t you might get lucky with a last minute cancellation (as happened to us) but don’t take the chance!It’s a little tricky to find using google maps as it’s down an alley but get in the general area and you’ll find it!As has been said in the past it feels like being in someone’s house who has the best chef in the kitchen!

This is a small exclusive restaurant serving beautiful and well presented food, the owners were really friendly ,you could really See the pride they have in this establishment, we were so impressed and although we knew they were fully booked the following evening we passed by in the off chance that there may have been a cancellation unfortunately for us there wasn’t ,but we were still greeted with a lovely smile and a apology that they were unable to accommodate us.Summary is easy, “ What a lovely restaurant and hosts , but book early or be disappointed.....

Words cannot express what a fantastic night we had at The Courtyard in Great Yarmouth. The restaurant is very small and personable with the owners Katy and Sarah tending to your every need. Nothing is too much trouble and their hosting skills are up their with the best eateries in the world. The food is freshly made by David and the menu albeit small is perfectly constructed so that the variety of an extensive menu is still there. Portions are huge but not overwhelming with perfect balance and seasoning and more importantly taste heavenly. I could have stayed there all night soaking in the chatter and the ambience of the place. Thank you Katy for fitting us in on our anniversary as we hadn’t booked and the popularity of this place means that it is often fully booked. If you are travelling to Great Yarmouth you must not miss this absolute jewel of a restaurant, without doubt the best the town has to offer!

Excellent sisters ran this little gem tonight .Great food and atmosphere. The lasagna and muscles were lovely and our spoilt ramblers walking group was well catered for.

I recently celebrated my 40th birthday here, whilst on holiday, it was amazing. We were all so well looked after, Katie the manager is a fabulous host and made sure we were all happy. We were a large family group and the children had as much fun as the adults. The food was absolutely amazing, so tasty and well presented. Katie had put up banners for us and even provided a free glass of fizz - just the best evening I could have asked for, so friendly and thoughtful.
