Wow what scrummy food, I had fish, chips and mushy peas which was cooked perfectly with a light crispy batter. My hubby had steak n Stilton pie from the specials board which is homemade and packed with meat. Highly recommend 😊

First time here a month ago & been every week since ,nice pub, very pleasant staff, food superb, wife reckons best haddock & chips she's had in area I v had giant yorkie, since sausages, mash, veg & gravy. Fabulous.👌👌

We visited today for our second time as we loved it so much last week. We had booked for a 3 course Christmas dinner. On arrival I could see that the table id requested was ready for us however it was surrounded by tables that were all full. Sadly COVID has left me with a lot of issues and my main one is anxiety, especially with a lot of people around. The staff were lovely and moved us to a perfect little table at the side of the bar. We ordered our drinks and were happily people watching as there were a lot of people having Christmas lunches and we were seeing what the food was like, it all looked yummy. Drinks ordered we had a visit from the chef. smashing bloke who wanted to check out starters and ask if we were ready, we said yes and a few minutes later put they came. pate and prawn cocktail and both delicious. Chef popped back out and asked who was the fish which was Mr, he asked what type of peas I wanted to which I said mushy as I knew they were proper mushy peas, did I want salad, yes please and I also asked for my fish to be skinless which isn't an issue here Mains arrived and were gorgeous and hot, couldn't fault a thing. Even though the restaurant was busy and there also appeared to be a funeral party in the conservatory for which we had watched plates of food come out from the kitchen for, the service was brilliant, and all the ladies were brilliant. Christmas pud and Roly poly followed with a coffee for my oh, both were delicious. It was an absolutely delicious meal and a good menu. We used to have a Christmas meal out but hadn't for a few years, so glad we chose here. Thanks again for wonderful food, a lovely atmosphere and great staff. See you soon.

Awful experience!! I am writing this on behalf of my mum who visited here last night with her 3 sisters. They had pre-booked and paid a £5 deposit per person, specifically asking if they needed to pre-order for the festive menu and were told not. They only meet up once a year and this is a very special occasion for them. On arrival they were given an awful table in the doorway, they requested to move and were placed on a tiny and low table which was awkward to eat at. There were nearby empty tables and were advised that these were already booked and not available to them despite remaining empty throughout their meal. When ordering they were then told that the festive menu wasn't available to them, as they had not pre-ordered. They had to show the email thread between themselves and the pub to prove they had requested this, them eventually admitting they had made the mistake and did apologise. However, they were still only able to order from the standard menu and were offered nothing in compensation. When the food did arrive it was poor and all dried out. One sister did brave ordering a dessert (treacle sponge) which had gone completely solid due to over microwaving, causing the syrup to get rock solid. They are a polite group of older ladies who maybe lack the confidence to complain (and didn't wish to tar this annual special occasion for themselves), however I have spent today consoling my mum who is still very upset with how they were treated and made to feel like second class customers.

The wife decided that we were going out for tea, I left it in her hands and we ended up here. Well we have been before but not for a long time and we both said that we forgot how nice it is. The staff for a start were friendly and accommodating, attentive but not intrusive. Lovely atmosphere and then we sat down. The wife had already checked out the menu so we ordered drinks and then we ordered food straight after. I opted for the homemade chilli with rice and chips (1/2 and 1/2) a side order of onion rings HOMEMADE and Delicious. And a side salad, again delicious. My daughter ordered a burger and asked for it plain with mash and veg. My wife ordered the chicken stroganoff and said it was beautiful. My chilli was great with just enough heat and packed with flavour. After this we had puddings and I don't normally do pudding but they had spotted dick and custard so I had to have a dabble. The wife had the homemade cheesecake and the daughter had the Chocolate waffle. We all enjoyed these puddings and the only complaint I had with the spotted dick was, there was not enough of it. All in all a great dining experience in a lovely friendly atmosphere. I didn't take any pictures this time as I didn't take my phone but rest assured everything was spot on.

I visited the country man in Humberston on Wednesday 27th September 2023 with three friends. We all had a wonderful meal it was all cooked to perfection. The only thing I would say and I did raise this before we left was that there is no disabled parking or access and we were all registered disabled in our party.

We had haddock bake and scampi. The haddock and scampi were fine. However, the chips, although good, were tiny portions,as were coleslaw garnishes- a small spoonful. The meal sizes were more like senior citizen dishes. Shrinkflation?

We decided it was time to check out the meals at this lovely pub .been 38 years since last visit. I must say was very pleased with the whole experience. The food was very tasty good portion sizes .the service from the staff was second to none even tho they were very busy .Great prices compared to other pubs too

A wonderful place that suits everyone! The GF - Gluten Free range is fantastic with lots of meals including a range of desserts which you don’t get anywhere else. Sunday lunches are filling and have everything you can ask for. Again, reasonable price with different sized portions. We usually find Sunday lunches including the carvery’s tend to be expensive on Sundays but very reasonably priced here :) I had the chicken & bacon salad which was genuinely the nicest I’ve ever had. Again, £8.30! I paid £13 for three pieces of baby gem lettuice and a slice of chicken at an establishment in Louth not that long ago. We love eating here! Steak night on Fridays are our favourite. Two steak meals, and two starters or desserts £25! Deals on every night of the week and fantastic welcoming staff. All table service too! Very highly recommended!

Wow wow wow. I have coeliac disease, so when going out for dinner my choices are usually very limited. The “normal” menu has all the choices on. I didn’t have to be treated differently (which was fabulous). The menu has the green gluten free sign next to what is available. The menu is covered in green. Starters, mains AND PUDDINGS!!!!!!!. Not just fruit salad and ice cream. Sponge pudding, caramel pudding and more ………on the normal menu. Not only was the choice brilliant, the food was fab too. Really good size portions and at a good price. We had two lovely servers, Natalie and I’m sorry I never caught the other ladies name, that were really lovely and helpful. Overall a wonderful experience. For any fellow coeliacs out there this place is a must. Thank you so much for a lovely evening. We will definitely return.

We had a lunch of haddock, chips and mushy peas today, seated in the bar, as our friends brought their little dog. The fish was fresh and the batter was light. The chips were home made and portions were good. The cask conditioned beer was excellent. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The cost was reasonable. I would say that this is the best pub dining that we've found in the area.

Have been for the last 3 weeks with 7 friends & 8 other friends, &also with husband. Staff are very good and friendly nothing to much trouble, meals are excellent. But disappointed, with table decorations. Think it could do with a refurbishment.

Our food was beautifully cooked. The bad points are that the menus were filthy and scruffy and crumpled, the table mats were in such a poor state, they should be thrown away and the vinegar bottle top was dirty.

First visit anywhere since lockdown and I have to say I was impressed. Plenty of hand gel and everywhere looked clean. Lots of distance between tables and very good fish and chips. It made me feel better about venturing out in the new normal.

We ate on a Thursday, pie night, I had the steak pie two folks had haddock and one from the vegan menu. The restaurant was pretty empty, but the meals took 30 minutes to come, but they were amazing and well worth the wait. The menu says home-cooked, and I absolutely believe that to be the case.

Ate here with a small family group this week. We have all loved in Humberston for years but never eaten here before. As we arrived we noticed a big group of 15-20 people eating and it seems that the Countryman is popular with groups and for parties. Most of our group opted for the fish & chips and I have to say the fish was delicious! We are spoilt for choice for great fish & chips in our home town but this fish was fresh, lightly battered and a decent size. Mushy peas were average and chips were fantastic- despite there only being a few. My brother had the pulled pork burger which looked great. Drinks are cheap here, not a huge wine list but enough to get by! Desserts were OK, avoid anything with custard as it had an odd taste. The sponge puddings appeared shop bought and very bland but cheap enough if that’s your things. The service was good despite the large groups being served at the same time were there- the staff were friendly and attentive. Menus, cutlery and table tops were dirty and sticky and a little “unloved.”

The first time we had been here I would recommend fish was fresh and beautiful the girls that served us was very pleasant would definitely be returning

Shocking for the price, very bland and small portions, usually go to cromwell banqueting suite xmas day,only positive was the service from the nice staff, squirty cream on dessert unacceptable for 52 pounds 50 pence, king prawn cocktail contained 1 king prawn the rest frozen miniature ones, rock hard potatoes, turkey was tasteless and in bits, 1 solitary cocktail pig in blanket, 1 tiny stuffing ball, and finally banoffee waffle was dry and rock hard, i am finally having a proper xmas dinner today at home to try and forget this dreadful experience.

Ate here last night, very bland food even the desert was poor. would not return although fish & chips looked good so should have had that. could not get on pool table as their team took it over until 10.30.

Arranged to have a meal here with some close friends, the meals were good for all five of us, also i selected the Otters white witch beer which was very good, we dined in the conservatory area which was Ok.

We had an excellent Sunday lunch recently with a Guinness and a cask ale,much improved and nice atmosphere,good service etc I used to think this pub was the most boring in the area so pleasantly surprised with all round improvement

We had planned to go to the place over the road but they had no room for our family of six so we popped into the countryman. The menu had all the pub classics and they were all very reasonably prices. All mains were under a tenner. Steak dishes were about £13+. Kids meals were £3.50 I think. Excellent value, decent portion sizes, and clean plates all round. Kids loved their meals, so did we!

Nice atmosphere good service , pleasant staff. Food good value, big helpings, in fact too large for myself, but would definitely recommend to family and friends

I am luck and have some very young friends 90 years 84 years We try and go out every month for lunch many years ago we came here our table was booked for 1.30 we went to bar to order food but was told someone would come and take our order 30 min later order still not taken so i went and mentioned this finally order was taken .Food was good no problem with that except one had jacket potato with tuna the menu does not say tuna and mayo she did not want mayo so menu needs changing there .As i ssid food was good but i feel staff where very nice but did not execute there role very well .

A superb pub offering excellent value for money, the pub itself is traditionally styled and quite simply provides good honest meals. Myself and the wife enjoyed our Sunday lunch so much we went back just 3 days later for fish and chips, both visits where excellent and we enjoyed a friendly atmosphere. Simple, tasty, good value and great quality. Everything you’d want in a pub meal, spot on!

Went for fish and chip Wednesday . Very busy and not surprised as meal was excellent. Lovely friendly staff and nice atmosphere.

Ate with a large group and I have to say the food was very good and piping hot. I had the fish and chips and the fish was very tasty with good mushy peas. Finished off with a ice cream sundae and enjoyed the fact you can pick and choose the sauce, toppings etc.

Today had another great meal at the Countryman, well worth a visit. Home made chips, and onion rings, a excellent sirloin steak

Go here regularly as the food is well cooked and good value for money. Would recommend Friday steak day.

Roast beef, homemade Yorkshire pudding and fresh veg, delicious. Staff very welcoming. Very reasonably priced and good atmosphere. Looks a bit shabby (though clean) but ignore that and enjoy home cooked good food. Will definitely use again.

Called for Lunch. We rang to book at 12.30 and was told there wasn’t a table until 2.00. We arrived at 2.00 and the place was empty. I find it hard to believe that was the earliest we could get a table!The food was OK but I have had much better. The portion size for the chicken burger was small in my opinion.

Our family group visited for the first time for a Fridaylunch. The restaurant areas were quiet.The waitress serving us was both polite and helpful. The Fresh Grimsby Haddock and Chips, wasvoted the best ever eaten!We would all recommend trying the Countryman Restaurant again.Finally, as I was in a wheelchair, I found the table height justabout high enough for my long legs to fit comfortablyunderneath. The disabled toilet was roomy and easy to usewithout difficulty.

I noticed the previous review complementing the Steak Pie and I thought that I would just add to this as me and my family go here often and really do think that the food is amazing!!....The Steak Pie is superb as are the Fish & Chips...there is Pie Day on Thursday and Fish Day on Wednesday too if you want to save a couple of quid. Such a great family friendly pub. The Home Made Steak Pie was filled full, with big chunks of steak! The chips were real “chippy chips”. You can’t fault this place, the prices are reasonable too. I will be coming back again

We called in for a Sunday roast shortly after they finished serving food but were quite happy to take our food order. The food was excellent as was the wine all served by very friendly staff. They deserve to do well and we'll be back to make sure that they do.

A friend and I met here for a couple of drinks after work. We went in the sports bar as I had my dog with me. The staff are always helpful, friendly and welcoming to both us and my dog. We had a couple of glasses of wine and spent most of our time chatting. There was a good atmosphere in the bar and we were left to talk without being asked if we wanted more drinks. It’s one of our locals so we will definitely return.

We often go to the Countryman as it offers a good selection of gluten free meals at a reasonable price. The staff have always been friendly.

Heard a few recommendations from a couple of people so thought I would try it out for myself and suggested it for a family's members birthday meal. We arrived to a large seating area, slightly mis-matched/ dated decor but okay nonetheless. We took our seats and read through the menu- fab choice, lots to choose from and great offers and prices. The barmaid made us aware that we were required to order our meals at the bar which is fine. Service could be improved, staff lacked some basic customer service skills and were a little rude at times- but hey- everyone has bad days, I wasn't going to let it ruin a family celebration so I didn't say anything. Our food arrived and I must say it was lovely and thoroughly enjoyed by all! I also feel the need to mention the fact that there was at least three separate groups of customers (who were quite clearly 'regulars') who gave us what I would describe as 'dirty looks' and made quite audible comments about us being sat in 'their' seat when their was quite clearly no name or reserved sign on the table. I must say it made us feel quite uncomfortable and unwelcome to say the least. Which is a shame!

I visited on a weekday at lunchtime with my Aunt.The atmosphere was relaxing and the barmaid was polite and friendly.There was plenty of dining area seating which was well spaced.Our meals were served with no too long to wait with good portions on each plate.Ample car parking space is also available.

Had fish and chips here yesterday and it wasn't bad in fact it was very tasty and a lovely crispy fish batter. Shame there was not enough chips but the fish was good. Very busy and popular pub and they had too pause orders as couldn't cope with demand. Did not have a sweet so can't comment on them. 8 out of 10 for the meal and attentive staff.

Booked a table for two for a Friday evening, arrived and the restaurant was nearly empty! Unsure if was waiter service and after a while a waitress appeared and explained it was order at the bar (they had been watching us for a while from the bar as had nothing else to do). Staff unsure on what was included on the meal deals and food was very basic. Won't be back!

Food has always been ok but seemed to have changed the menu does not full cater for vegetarians as the fish is friend in beef fat - put my wife off until this has been changed shame we visit this venue very regular sham - over to you would like to see if you read my comments.

After last weekend's experience, I can't praise them highly enough, Mother's Day treat went perfectly. Swift and courteous service from friendly staff, food was both delicious and plentiful, reasonably priced, clean and comfortable surroundings, I'm not sure what more you could ask for!

The Countryman was recommended to me as a Coeliac and I was amazed to see the number of gluten free options on the website menu. I emailed in advance and received a fast reply confirming they were aware of Coeliac Disease and how to prepare gluten free food without cross contamination. On arrival, the outside of the pub/restaurant looked a bit tired but we went in and were greeted by friendly staff and plenty of seating. Service was quick and friendly. There were lots of gluten free options on the menu and ordering gluten free couldn't have been easier. Our meals looked amazing and tasted incredible with lovely moist chicken, crispy chips and the sauces were a perfect consistency and full of flavour. We will certainly visit The Countryman again and definitely recommend it.

Received a lovely main course but was let down by the desserts, when the cheese cake was served with mouldy raspberries! , I informed a member of staff who said she would get straight back to us but after nearly 20 minutes no one had bothered, so we paid and left. Shame really was great until that point

Took the Mrs for Sunday lunch today literally the worst I've ever had grilled dry hard over cooked chicken rather than roast it was like dried out chicken kebab lobbed on a plate with a scoop of lumpy mash n a few veg and when they asked is everything ok n I explained it was terrible all we got was an apology that was it after explaining it was the worst I'd had still just a sorry terrible food n terrible service

Visited this venue with our 4 friends, management very friendly and food was great, we visit this venue regularly, thank you for looking after me and my guests we will call again you staff are great and very obliging.

We went to the Country man for a meal on Boxing day. It was very busy at the time of our visit but all the meals were first class. All fresh products and beautifully cooked. The sea bass was great and very tasty. We weren't in a hurry so the time between courses did help the digestion. All round a great meal was had by all.

Visited again this month with our special friends i love the king prawn starter with fresh fish and chips, the polite and management are very good and polite the venue is clean and food is always good will call again next month - Eddie

I visited here as part of a group for the Xmas menu. It's the first time I've been here and will definitely be my last. The staff were nice and the service was good but the food was just an embarrassment, the prawn starter was hilarious, the seabass main was an insult to the fish. It came with the sort of side salad your grandmother used to make. A few of us had this meal and only one of us got a small packet of butter for the new potatoes. My dessert, Xmas pudding with brandy sauce was bizarre. It was an over microwaved rubbery bit of mattress served in a bath of frothy flavourless milky substance. There were mince pies to finish and one of our party must have been naughty this year as their pie had no filling. Waste of a night out in the end.

Saw pie night advertised on face book sounded a great idea, not very busy might have been a hint it wasn't good , was going to order beef and Stilton pie , it was then removed from board settled for chicken and leek pie chips and peas twice and a steak pie , waited ages , far too long then when it arrived , small amount of frozen chips , tinned peas, and a very small portion of pie , microwave heated pie with a very soggy crust very little taste and very little meat , when the waitress came over to ask if all ok , I said how disappointing it was her reply was pie night is a special night so he only gives out smaller portions. 3/4 of the pie size she said, when you go to his special fish night he doesn't give 3/4 a piece of fish, must say his fish is good but pie night defiantly not good .

Called in for fish and chips found friendly staff and great food the fish was one of the best ive had in ages i have eaten in here before and the food was just as good would recomend this place as one of the best in the area

A group of 30+ people enjoyed delicious home cooked, locally-sourced food plus tea/coffee all for £9. Fabulous value, lovely staff who accommodated various dietary requirements without quibble.

I come here regularly, and as usual food was really good. Portions are usually good. Just one member of staff was quite of fish this visit, leave your mood at home.

Met here with a group of friends for tea and a natter, good food and service, nothing too much trouble even had a free game of bingo! Fish and Chips good quality fish which you expect in Grimsby. all other meal very good

went for fish and chip night , started badly from off, for got order took nearly 1 hour to get served, did not think it was value for the money , the place looked tatty, will not go again

Has been a great place in it's time with a well frequented restaurant. Seemed to dip in it's standards for a while but well and truly on the way back up now. Food is good but not yet great again. Bar Ok but can get rowdy.

Food is always good and selection offered is excellent. Service very good and staff always helpful. The conservatory offers lovely atmosphere and tables are well spaced so no-one is cramped which is a nice change from being cramped into a place that has too many tables.

Birthday party with 6 adults and 2 children. A range of meals taken off the menu, all very well cooked and very well presented, all at reasonable prices. Everyone left happy. Will call again.

We had been shopping all day and wanted somewhere to go for a treat in the afternoon away from the town centre so we came to this venue and was pleasantly surprised, great b plate of fish and chips we asked for it skinned and well cooked the quality was very good thank you staff very friendly and the venue was clean will be coming back

My Sister in law and I go out for lunch every week and we thought we would try the Countryman...........absolutley fabulous!! I had the Fish n Chips....!!!****!!!! The BEST I have ever had!!!! The fish was beautifully cooked and was as fresh as if it had just been landed. My sister in law had the Home made steak pie and was just as delighted as me!! We are definately going back!
