Incredible food, compliments to Gerald and his caribbean street food

Dined here a couple of times and have never been disappointed. Today we tried the Street food Monday offering Caribbean dishes. The food served by Gerald and the team was fantastic, bursting with flavour, beautifully presented and all at a reasonable price. A must try!

Been past many many times so finely booked to have a meal and certainly wasn't disappointed the food is lovely . Will definitely return

We went for a friend's birthday to the Tapas evening. What a disappointment. 30 minutes and we saw nobody and had to go to the bar to ask for some service and to get a drink. 1 hour 30 minutes and still no food, shocking service. Six tables and only one table had any food Asked to speak to the Manager who was apparently 'too busy to speak with me' and when the food finally arrived it wasn't very nice. Definitely voting with my feet on this place and won't be returning. Nice place but they need to revisit a number of things, you definitely can't run a bar and restaurant like this.

We had seen for a while about these evening car meets. So we decided to attend with our car. Very busy, which is good, a nice eclectic mix of cars, saw some friends we had not seen for a while made some new ones. However, what let you down was the over run of kids and parents paying no attention to what they were doing (not in your control granted). Running around, when cars are moving about, running around with sticks, which can only end up with something happening and it did. Our classic car got hit by one of the kids throwing a stick. Luckily no damage. There was a discussion with the parent when they decided to come over and see us. Do not think we will attend this evening again.

Attended car meet, so I had a BBQ burger which was delicious.

First visit here. Lovely garden and setting. Staff were all really friendly and helpful. Food was delicious, all cooked really well and decent value. Only thing that prevents 5 stars over all was the lack of selection of rum.

Had two meals either side of our holiday at Woburn Centre Parcs, a lovely way to start our family holiday and to finish. From our 3 year old grandson to his 70 year old Gramps we found plenty to suit all. The food was excellent and the service prompt, friendly and helpful. A lovely atmosphere and I would firmly recommend. The halloumi fries and pork scratchings were amazing. The salmon and feta salad and the Korean salad were superb and as for the breakfast sandwich wow. All done our dishes were excellent.

We attended on of the classic car nights at the compasses and were really surprised by the changes the new owners have done, we knew it as a decent but unexceptional pub. It has been refurbished to a lovely standard and has a excellent food offering to match. We had the Devon Crab and Haddock and chips, both were spot on and generous Even though we arrived at peak time service was friendly and efficient We will definitely return and would recommend to friends and family

Went for dinner tonight first time it was brilliant the chef is amazing wonderful flavours a memorable meal attentive staff we shall return.

Tasty dishes including the vegetarian risotto- which can be tricky but the saffron helped! Chicken strips more like fish goujons but hungry kids eat most things! A busy night and service might have been stretched but generally met what was needed. Overall, the food won out and maybe a bit more help to relieve the staff would give them time to make the experience top grade.

We had a family lunch after our wedding ceremony and we had a really lovely experience. Food was very good, with plenty of choices and accommodated my vegan son's choices more than adequately. Service was extremely attentive and couldn't be faulted. We were eating, drinking and chatting for best part of 3 hours and never felt under any pressure to finish up. All together a great day and would highly recommend for any celebration. Parking was perfect for our group's 6 cars too, which was a factor in our choice of venue. Thanks to all the staff for making our experience so wonderful.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime with my daughter and family. Fish and chips were cooked to perfection and service was excellent. All very reasonably priced, highly recommended

Table for 2 at 6:45 on Friday.....Waited over 20 minutes for our drinks - arrived after our starter!! Bar staff only interested in people at the bar - I had the perfect view of this from my table....Poor value starters - one scallop for nearly a tenner!! Loud argument between staff in full earshot of us all....unprofessional. Food was well cooked but not good value either.... Rhia, the waitress was very professional. Needs a lot of improvement in customer service.........

Lovely local gastro pub. It’s nice that it’s reopened and with upgraded menu. Had a lovely dinner last night. My boyfriend had a burger and I had duck.

As the Pub had only recently opened under new management,my wife and I read the positive reviews and decided to visit for lunch and were not disappointed. The menu is limited,but we understand this will change periodically,we both had the fish and chips which were cooked to perfection,keep up the high standard.

A warm reception. Quality food and beer. I had the gammon and eggs which was cooked perfectly for me. The chips are big and crunchy and seem to be home cooked. Great.

4 stars for food as I only had starters but fully intend to go back for mains.

The compasses has a lovely atmosphere, it is warm and inviting. The staff are very friendly and accommodating to the needs of their customers. I have been twice now for Sunday lunch with friends and family, on both occasions the food we have received has been nothing short of perfection, we have visited with our little boys aged 3 and 1 and our boys have loved being within the pub, the staff are very friendly towards them. If you would like a lovely country pub atmosphere with a log burner, amazing food that is great value for money and locally sourced then this is the place to be.

Two excellent meals here and have been a few times just for a drink. The meals are very reasonably priced for the quality you get, our friends and family all commented how nice it was. The staff are friendly and you feel valued as a customer. Will definitely be returning

Visited The Compasses for dinner with a friend and cannot recommend enough! I always feel a bit hesitant going anywhere newly opened (or reopened) but the food was brilliant, staff were friendly and efficient service and a really relaxing atmosphere. I’ve since been back a few times for drinks and each has been a good experience

Had a lovely meal at The Compasses with my partner last week. The food was amazing, I had the Dirty Burger and my partner had the Duck Breast, both were delicious. The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much to ask. Would highly recommend! Great selection of ales too!

The food was lovely with a good choice of options on the menu to choose from. The pub was busy but didn't feel over-crowded, it had a cosy atmosphere with friendly staff 😊 I would recommend to anyone who likes a laid-back vibe with high quality experience, i'm looking forward to going back and trying out the rest of the menu!!

I visited with family and we greeted by friendly staff, it was very warm inside thanks to roaring log fire,a comfortable atmosphere and drinks reasonably priced,the restaurant is very nice looking out on the beer garden and open fields,the food was outstanding and the service excellent.

Friendly staff, Good service fair price but best of all the lunch main dinner was just brilliant chicken with a light mustard jue, rosette potatoes. Min Desert just right for those of us who have to mind our sugar intake. Well Done staff and the brilliant chief.

We had a nice catch up with friends last night on Christmas Eve. A long waiting for a drinks, approx 20-30mins and the service not really friendly. Everyone was too busy to smile. I understand everything but today when we went for a one drink on a Christmas Day, I have been told that won't be served until I pay yesterday's tab (!). I was in shock and explained that paid last night just over £30 and named drinks we have had. I have also offered my bank statement to show as the proof for the payment. When the girl went to speak to her manager, she came back to me asking "anything else"? I asked what about that bill from yesterday? She said "forget it". I found it very unfriendly and rude. Not what you would expect on a Christmas Day. Merry Christmas

We came here as a group of 4 for a meal. It was excellent, they had a Brazilian chef and a great menu. Pricey, but you get what you pay for. And our mates paid so even better 😂.

My partner and I have visited several times and taken many guests with us and always had a great meal or drink. The ability to walk the dogs and visit the bar area is a nice touch. Food has always been spot on and so has the service.

Good quality and quantity of food, original menu and decent service. The waiting staff are all knowledgeable about drinks and dishes and the place is very dog friendly with free biscuits and water bowls. Highly recommend, it's one of the best pubs in the area. Prices could come down a touch, but meh.

Lovely venue, very good service, food good but not brilliant, prices FAR too high

The food was excellent - the king prawn starter was absolutely amazing. The menu was big with lots of choice and I was happy with all 3 choices I went for. Special mention to the staff who were friendly and attentive too. I would definitely return.

First time visit. Very pleasant and welcoming. We were a group of four adults and two young children. Meal was very nice and all requests were catered for. However, and this accounts for the 4 stars, my meal arrived with the gravy all over it! I prefer to choose. My daughter did ask for it to be on the side (for my meal), but this request wasn't met. Other than that, all good.

Great food and customer service. Before our visit we found the menu a little pricey. We went to Compasses for dads birthday and were glad we did. Venison steak was a lovely treat. Salads had a lovely dressing. Presentation, food and customer service were all spot on. We will be back!

Outstanding. The best food I have eaten for a long time. The staff are so polite. Starters are from about £8 . Mains are about £25 . Dessert is about £8. We shared the chateaubriand £55 it was absolutely amazing. Well worth the money. I would recommend trying this place

Last chance to eat out before lockdown meal. Discovered The Compasses courtesy of some friends and it did not disappoint. Very nice menu with some interesting options for each course. Caters for everyone from confirmed carnivores to vegans. Lots of locally sourced produce. Good food and friendly service in a pleasant environment. We'll be back post lockdown. Businesses like this deserve our support.

Staff very helpful in view of the fact that our pre booked table ..for a special birthday..had not been met and no table was available except in the bar area.. As it was by now 8pm we did not want to try to find somewhere else do made the most of it. The manager, did as much as he could though it was not his fault. The food was most acceptable.

Went with the extended family, the place was nice; more restaurant than pub, food was good, as was the service. Arguably it was a little pricey for 'lunch', but the same food in the evening I would have said was fairly reasonably priced.

Some years since my last visit. Now an excellent pub. Comfortable and tables not squeezed in. A good menu and food is very good. Service was first class. It will not be years before my next visit!

Excellent decor, comfortable and nice atmosphere, our table was not too close to others. Nice beer, good food, good service. Menu is a little different, refreshing change. Highly recommend the bone marrow starter, burgers are good and the v cut chips different but excellent. Being picky the burger was a little pink in the middle, were not asked for choice of how well done we wanted it. The chicken burger very slightly on the dry side, but perfectly edible. As said, this is being picky, lovely place and we will be back.

It's okay. They charge a premium price and the service, food and drinks don't quite live up to it. For example, when you order a round of drinks the waiting staff deliver them two drinks at a time - they don't seem to have any trays. Presumably to reduce the number of trips, mixers are all poured completely into the drinks, rather than letting you adjust to personal taste. They don't do this if you buy a drink at the bar. One of the beers we ordered was completely flat, and when we returned it the bar staff didn't really know what to do. The menu is extensive - perhaps too extensive. Everything we ordered was fine, but not remarkable or memorable. It seemed like most things were pre-prepared, rather than made in house on the day. It took a long time to arrive. The venue is really nice, so hopefully it will grow better as everything settles in. Wouldn't avoid it, but won't be rushing back.
