I’m a coffee snob. Unashamed and fairly public about it. So when I went wandering in Bolton the other day to get a coffee, I was looking for an independent coffee shop that cares about its coffee. Stumbling into The Coffee Grind, I found my nirvana. A place that truly oozes coffee obsession. Nigel is the complete coffee guru, a true aficionado that knows his coffee inside out and can mix beans and roasts to craft the kind of cup of coffee obsessively like me dream of. It’s like rocket fuel. None of this bitter, over-roasted, commercial, mass-produced nonsense that so many chains serve, The Coffee Grind produces cup after cup of liquid nectar. If you’re just generally keen on coffee or after something better, more refined and unique, you’ll love this place.

Visited today for coffee and cake. Coffee was excellent and cake good. Atmosphere relaxing. However on leaving I had left a carrier bag with my shopping under the table. One of the members of staff a man called me back which I very much appreciated. But he then proceeded to comment about what was in the bag and actually opened it to look in there and commented on one of the contents. There wasn't really anything in there I would be unhappy about him seeing but that is beside the point; there may have been. Felt it was an invasion of my privacy and completely inappropriate behaviour.

I come here every time I'm in Bolton and adore it. The coffee is great and I love the range of beans to choose from. My daughter is a regular visitor to the coffee grind on Newport street, she is a wheelchair user, and has two carers with her, her visit today was not a pleasant one. One of the servers told the carers that if they were not ordering they had to leave, the fact that they were staggering their order so my daughter could have her coffee first could have been sorted before the unpleasant tone. My daughter had a loyalty card and staff know this. The shop wasn’t busy either, but doesn’t warrant being rude. Yours Sylvia Evans , Bolton

Gill and nigel are amazing haven't had the pleasure of meeting other staff as of yet as I come for my coffee early door's but can imagine they are just as friendly as Gill and Nigel... Never come across staff that are this friendly.. Commenting on how great you look. Actually having conversation and taking an interest in you and not just what you want to buy... The story goes that a recent visitor to Manchester asked a policeman on Market Street where the nearest place was where he could get a decent coffee. The friendly bobby thought about it, scratched his head and said, "Milan". Not so. The answer should have been, "the Coffee Grind in Bolton Market." Yes,I know it subverts all the stereotypes, but these folk - all trained baristas - really know what they are doing. They are brilliant. The coffee is fantastic and it is oh so reasonably priced... plus with their affinity card every tenth coffee is free. One more thing, it"s in the middle of probably the best market in the UK, certainly the best in the north west of England. If you go by train you'll need two coffees. Northern trains are crap. So it will be one to recover from the journey and a second to steel yourself for the return. Seriously, if you love coffee this is the place for you.

My wife and I come to the Coffee Grind every 1 or 2 weeks as it makes a refreshing change from the large chain coffee shops. Nigel the owner seems to remember every one of his customers and he usually has something witty to say. Being in the market at Bolton means that there is always some activity around for those that like to people watch but unfortunately this also means that the Coffee Grind is only open when the market is open (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday) - what a shame! I am a massive fan of places like Starbucks and Costa for more recently providing bean options. However, my mind has recently been blown by this amazing little coffee shop in Bolton that packs a serious punch. The space is beautifully modern and set out in a very cool wooden/metal bar laden interior that instantly grabbed my attention. Low lighting helped make me feel super relaxed and at ease. It was their fantastically varied selection of beans that made my heart stop. 15 different types of coffee beans arranged in glass jars meant the only tough part of the visit was to choose which one to try first!! I have visited 3 times in 3 days and I have to say that the Djimma and Monsoon beans are in a tie as my favourites. The selection of drinks is well-priced and the Cortados/Flat Whites are carefully and beautifully presented. Staff have been brilliant every day we have been, and the lovely manager made us feel right at home as well as going above and beyond expectations to fetch things for us and chat about the coffee. I am so impressed and sad to be leaving Bolton, returning to my normal coffee. I am very much looking forward to returning to fill in my loyalty card and try the rest of the beans!

Visited the Newport Street coffee shop. Nice interior and very friendly service to brighten a gloomy dank typically British summer afternoon. Had an excellent flat white which was offered as a strong smaller version or the more usual large cup. Also an excellent slice of cake I was pleased I yielded to the temptation to try. It was quiet at the time as was the town - down to the weather. Cannot fault the service - even made sure I was connected to the wifi. Hope this will be a successful addition to the established Market Hall unit. Once the Newport Street improvements are completed this will attract more passers by. Look forward to my next visit. We came here on a recommendation and my friend has an exhibition up at the moment. You walk in and there is such a friendly, welcoming atmosphere - it’s hard to describe! The food was delicious and well presented, the pot of tea huge, and the staff were lovely. Artwork to view all around the cafe and the mezzanine floor, plus a good selection of gifts. Even the toilets were special. Well worth the trip from Blackpool!
