The Codfather chip shop in West Oxfordshire

Used to love this place however has gone down hill since new management, i.e had cold chips and curry sauce a few months back. We decided to give it another go and bought a double cheese burger, mixed kebab and chips. Was quite nice however my partner (who had the kebab) is very ill and can’t move away from the bathroom. We will not be returning.

We ordered through just eat. The first time we did a few months ago the food was amazing. Today it arrived and all but 2 items were stone cold. Tried calling but couldn't get through so had to warm some bits up but the rest was wasted. Not sure if it was the shop or due to the delivery method but has put me off ever going here again. Very disappointed as previously was great!

Went to the van in Bampton. Things have changed since the new owners took it over. The chips were OK and the fish was OK but the batter was really thick and orange. It meant that the outside was cooked and the fish was cooked but that the inside of the batter was in a semi-cooked state. It was honestly about 5/6mm thick and really spongy. It was so under-cooked it still smelt of flower. After dinner I made a squishy ball with my hands. I reckon I could've rolled it out and used it as a pizza base. There was no queue at the van tonight. Looks like people are staying at home. Don't take any notice of any photos, it ain't like that anymore.

Avoid at all cost over priced and rubbish over cooked chips uncooked batter on the fish a hair in the chips cold mushy pea sauce and curry source was like dirty dish water no flavour at all and far to watery will never use again worse place i have ever eaten from

This shop is set back in a neighborhood and we discovered it while searching for fish and chips near Mollie’s Motel. We are so glad we decided to give it a try because it did not disappoint! The cod and chips were great and the small sausage was very tasty. The staff were very friendly and prepared our food quickly!

Really bizarre experience because whilst I was there, the takeaway was absolute chaos with orders being repeated all over the place again & again & again. Food took a while. But. And it’s a massive but. Everything was absolutely excellent. The fish was massive for the price and a huge portion of chips. Everything perfectly cooked and reasonably priced. I couldn’t fault the output. It’s just the process which is unusual and a wonder to watch as things unfold. Five surprising stars!

As always a recent visit was rewarded with superb food and service,a credit to them. I look forward to future pleasures .

Brought 2 X standard cod and chips, there was enough for 4 adults with some leftover. All freshly cooked and so tasty.

We ordered several portions of fish and chips from this shop. The sizes are huge and we couldn’t eat them all as there was so much food but the fish was lovely and freshly cooked and the chips really tasty too. It’s obviously got a good reputation as do many people had preordered and there’s was a massive queue. It’s near a lovely little park too where we enjoyed sitting eating. Would definitely recommend.

Wanted a quick takeaway read the reviews and ordered Scampi and chips. The food was cooked well with ample proportions but the oil gave us a awful aftertaste. What caused it I suspect that perhaps the oil needed changing. Shame but only 3 points awarded

While camping in the area we fancied fish & chips a following good reviews we decide to give it a try. I asked what was good to be told very passionately everything was good and cooked fresh we would not be disappointed. We had the fish, scampi and a kids chicken nuggets meal. While waiting for the food I was given a sample of their kebab, chips and curry sauce all very good . The portions were very generous and all very tasty and delicious. Would recommend definitely

Best Chippy in Witney. The fish is so Fresh. Wonderful Serice by the lovely owner. She is always so cheerful and polite to all the customers.

We always use the Codfather chip van when they visit us every Friday. Guaranteed delicious food and freshly cooked. Staff are always polite and a pleasure to see. The shop in Witney is just as great too!

Went here for fish and chips rather than the usual place I use, and so glad I did. Fish was coooked to perfection, and chips were good too, all freshly cooked while I waited. Huge portion sizes . Will definitley be back

I dropped in here whilst out on my bike. I saw a sign on the main road and just chanced it. I knew it was going to be good when I chatted to others in the queue.

This was the first time we had used this chippy, we normally use a different one in Witney. It was absolutely gorgeous, the fish and batter was cooked to perfection and the chips were just as good. The shop looked lovely and clean and the staff were very polite and happy. We will definitely use this one again

Perhaps on of the best pieces of plaice I've had anywhere. Highly recommended. Cooked to order, substantial portion of very well cooked chips.

This is some of the best fish and chips we’ve ever had. The cod was fresh, generous portion and not greasy. Chips and mushy peas were delicious too.

This is by far the best fish n chips in Witney. Cooked from fresh and just lovely😊Luckily we live fairly close by. Please keep supporting them as they work so hard for everyone👍

I have been going here for awhile now as it is just down the road from me and everytime the food is freshly cooked. Good portion sizes and they never sacrifice on the quality!

Excellent quality fish, huge portions even provide gluten free options of sausage or fish on a Thursday.

Fantastic as always Friendly staff food cooked fresh every time I don’t mind waiting as it’s cooked fresh have sometimes rung my order in either was it’s always fresh and good quality food

I recently discovered this dinky little shop in the backwaters of Witney. Its snuck away by the Burwell Hall and the only way I found it was a small sign on the main Thorney Leys Rd. They cook their fish to order, so you have to wait for 5-10 mins before its ready, but the wait is worth it. The batter is crisp and not too oily and the fish is just right. Hot moist and very tasty. Quite frankly - I can't fault them or their fish and chips. They are worth a trip out and I believe you can also telephone in orders if you are impatient. Portions are - let's say, on the generous side!

Been a regular for a couple of years now, not just the best in Witney and surrounding area, it’s the best this side of the coast!!!!!Wonderful staff a real pleasure to go to the shop friendly and spotless. They also do a damm good ice cream cone. Thanks guysAll the best for a long future Andy

Lovely staff behind the counter. Always cheerful and with a smile. Everything is cooked to order, so no soggy chips here. It’s an absolute pleasure to come and eat from here.

I can say now that I am a regular customer. Food is always high quality, very good portions and the staff are always friendly and smiling which is a plus! I have to say that their kebab meat and chips is awesome!! Looking forward to visiting them this week!

We hired The Codfather Van to come to our party in the garden in the summer. Everyone loved the fish and chips! The portions were generous and lovely and hot. Anna & Mauro were really friendly and I would recommend the idea to anyone having an outdoor party as it was a fun and not too pricy way to have hot delicious food and to save on plates and cutlery!

Used to be the best chippy in Witney but now just average needs to up there game again the people are lovely just need to become better

We get food from here every couple of weeks or so. You usually have to wait a few minutes as it’s cooked from fresh but it’s worth the short wait. Would definitely recommend it as it’s far better than any other chippy we’ve tried.

I went with a couple of friends for some fish and chips and burgers yesterday. It was really nice and people were friendly and professional. I visited the shop and the van, and both were really clean!! I have seen they have very good reviews on FB too. I am definitely coming back!!! Hope you guys enjoy your food as well.
