The Chubby Cherub Lisburn Road in Belfast

Went here for lunch today and it was sooo good! We sat out the front in the sun and it was just lovely. Such a nice atmosphere. The lady with dark hair served us was really friendly. We were here around lunch so only wanted something light other than pizza or pasta. They have a deli menu with sandwiches and they were both delicious. I got slow cooked beef and my partner got the Italian club sandwich. The bread was so soft and fresh. Would really recommend. I couldn’t finish mine but took it home. Also they do the nicest Italian draught beer. We also got a lemon tart/cake to share after which was so good. Will definitely be back. Was much better than what I was expecting. I would also say though they should show their deli menu outside during the day because the things on the main menu are much more suited to an evening meal but the deli menu is perfect for someone who wants lunch or brunch.

We had 2 coffees. Both tasted nice. The atmosphere is unique, the design is breathtaking. They also have new Orleans jazz going and the place feels upmarket. Toilets are clean, the place outside also looks clean. One of the spoons were dirty tho, please watch it next time. Prices are a little on the high side, but it's worth it. We didn't order food or sit indoors, so can't comment on that. Service is also nice, but a bit rushed. The place has the potential to be a high standard upmarket restaurant! Update: One week later we tried to get the same coffee. Turns out the same coffee has now a different meaning, so we got different coffee. Ok, whatever. But it's the second time now they have dirty spoons (tissue stuck on them). It's unacceptable. I'll refuse to eat in a restaurant that can't get the basics right. Additionally because of the coffee mixup it's possible that my pregnant wife drunk alcohol without knowing. We'll not be back. Update2: appreciate the answer, but please stop using AI to generate it.

For whatever reason, 1 student ID wasn't enough to use the student discount, with the server claiming everyone at the table needs to show their own student ID?

Great spot for Italian food and very accommodating staff

like it was ok... was maybe slightly disappointed as I was remembering the cosy atmosphere and great food of the city centre one. the chilli oil had been refilled too many times and wasn't spicy at all - nor were the chilli flakes offered instead - and the staff just didn't seem bothered.

Super breakfast, with a great selection and really attractive atmosphere. Lovely place for a Sunday brunch.

Have eaten in the city centre branch which was a much better experience all around. The food was fine, but we had a very long wait between starter and mains. Then, when the mains did come only 3 of the party was served, the fourth had to wait several minutes and only came one plate at a time. Same with our drinks, 3 were served leaving the fourth sitting waiting for their drink. 10% service charge added to bill which we paid but won't pay again - as I won't be back. Shame- as the location is perfect, the decor is superb and the menu is sublime.

My husband and I go for lunch often and we decided to go here for the first time last week. It is a beautiful restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and the food was delicious. Having been to many different places for lunch, all around Northern Ireland, we usually pay anything from £50-£70. Our bill here was a whopping £90. I have given 3 stars, purely based on price because I was horrified to see that the bill included an £8 service charge for 2 people! There was only us in the restaurant at one point, perhaps the pricing is the reason why. I had spaghetti carbonara, it cost £21.00, the most expensive I have ever had. I can not fault anything else about the experience, except the price. There are much cheaper options nearby.

Person who "greeted" us this morning was obnoxious and quite cheeky. Didn't stay. Won't return. Hardly surprising that every other restaurant and cafe in the vicinity had queues outside them and this place was empty.

Had a fantastic dinner with excellent service throughout! Food was outstanding (the new nduja dough balls are great) and the setting is just beautiful! We have been here before and will most certainly be back again!

Great service by the manager, very attentive to customer needs and appreciate the complimentary treats. Food was great and atmosphere never disappoints will definitely recommend.

We loved our visit for the atmosphere, the experience, the service, the wide variety on the menu. But we didn’t love the food! We liked it a lot but we weren’t blown away by the flavours of it all particularly the dough balls or arancini. The shrimp was fantastic and we would return for that alone. Lovely food and decor, however requested an accessible table and were given a booth which is not suitable for a wheelchair user, we then had to find ourselves another more suitable table which was not cleaned or set. Service was very slow and it took 1hr 15mins for our food to be served. When the meal arrived we had no cutlery and when we asked for this we were told we would get this after they had served another table. There were then no napkins provided so we had to take these from another table which staff members appeared unimpressed with. There was definitely tension among members of staff some of which was heard by myself, this permeated onto us as diners, causing a terrible atmosphere and making myself and my family feel uncomfortable and as though we were an inconvenience to our servers. Unfortunately, we are extremely disappointed with our experience here and will not return to eat here.

Myself and my three friends came here for a meal as we had received vouchers in the post that stated we would receive a free pizza if we were to buy one first. We ordered one Margherita pizza each at around 19.10 / 19.15 ish and had to wait nearly an hour for them to arrive. When they did arrive they were at most sub-par and had very little flavour. Our table did not have any cutlery or napkins on it and not once were we asked if our food or meal was ok. Overall it was not a great meal and I would not be able to recommend this place. Wait staff were nice enough but service speed was not at all up to scratch and ruined the experience for us.

The service is so bad and it takes forever for the food to arrive! I have been to the Chubby Cherub which is located in City Centre and that was a total class experience but the Lisburn Road one is worse! Not at all expected this and very disappointed with the service and the staff.

Even though the food was good the service was not up to the mark. We had to wait for a total of 40 minutes for our order.

The risotto was good but the pizza was not up to standard. Too many changes to the well trodden path of pizza toppings.

I had read mixed reports but I wanted to try it out. Atmosphere and service was great and the whole family enjoyed their food. Certainly will be back to try a breakfast, particularly in the warmer months. I would recommend

Delightful venue and food is great

Visited mid December. Atmosphere is great and different with large (fake) orange and lemon trees hovering over all the tables. Menu choice is a little limited and could offer more options. Service was good but a little slow (and we did have to remind them off not delivering a 2nd round of drinks order). Food was well presented and tasty - but is a little lacking on quantity. We'd have left hungry had we not ordered an extra pizza main. Most options are expensive compared to similar restaurants. Everything above is ok, but the one thing that will stop me returning is that the booths are just too small. Once I slid into my seat - the table was right to my body - I just felt cramped in.

Stumbled across here and what a find! Able to take us without a reservation and we were a family of 5. Kids menu excellent. All food delicious, particularly the pork fillet. Venue decorated lovely, great atmosphere. Staff excellent. We will be back!

Nice decor. Service was good. However, food was underwhelming. Arancini starter was best plate we had. Ceasar salad portion was ridiculously big. Pizza was average. Disappointing visit.

Awful dining experience. (9/12/23) Unfortunately the second time service has let this restaurant down. Wouldn’t recommend or return. Waited 45 mins for starters, others seated/served before us. Waitress was aware asking if we had been served yet & seemed frantic. Could see other tables complaining/chasing drinks. Not the standard expected.

We arrived here for a brunch, but there was no breakfast or brunch menu available. So we went for the deli menu, and after 5 minutes of ordering Vesuvius, they told me that I needed to change it, so I went with the (Milano). It is claimed to have grilled chicken, pesto, and smoked tomatoes. All I got was a tasteless grilled chicken sandwich with no spices at all and a drizzle of truffle sauce. Very bad and disappointing experience!

My husband and I went for a Christmas Eve breakfast and it was delicious. Lovely staff, brilliant service and we ordered several cakes to take away with us for other family members, all of which were thoroughly enjoyed! Will definitely be back.

It was my twin daughters birthday so we gladly chose chubby cherub. The service food and atmosphere was outstanding! The fantastic server even sang happy birthday to them both. Well done to you all 😊

Faultless food, excellent vegetarian and meaty options, great to see local ingredients shine in fine Italian cooking. We found the portion sizes to be generous and plates very well balanced, you could never get bored eating here, each mouthful is exciting and delicious. Service was of as high a standard as you will find anywhere. Attentive, knowledgeable staff, a wonderful friendly atmosphere. Can't wait to be back.

As a big fan of the Chichester Street spot I was really looking forward to more of the same delicious food in the Lisburn road restaurant. Disappointed is an understatement. I ordered small plates, the Caprese mozarella and mini meatballs. The crispbread for the mozarella was served in a takeaway coffee cup. The tomatoes were unwashed and there was no seasoning on anything. The wooden board the food was on smelt fusty. The mini meatballs in tomato sauce were dry, despite being coated in sauce. In addition, my food was brought out 10 minutes before the rest of our party who were waiting only on pizzas. One of the pizzas was made incorrectly and had to be returned to the kitchen causing further delay. When our party finally got round to eating the pizza, the bases were so thin it they had to eat it with a knife and fork. Disaster. The junior staff were friendly and apologetic, the more senior staff really couldn't have been bothered. We received a discount on the meal to account for the incorrect pizza as someone had the sense to try and fix our disappointment over the offer of a meagre free desert. The experience might have been salvaged if the managers might have been arsed but as soon as the bill was paid we were left without even a bye, sorry, thank you for booking. Its a hard pass on this location for me.

Went at lunch time and food was tasty, they do a very good Caesar salad and a decent carbonara. Drink selection was good, cocktail menu had good variety. Service could be improved upon, server we had seemed like he didn't have a clue (may have been a new start but didn't express that to us) would have expected better knowledge from the servers. Lovely interior design, although tables were very close together which can be a bit awkward. Went for a simple lunch but ended up putting a hefty dent in the bank account, felt it was a wee bit overpriced for a simple salad and pasta. Could be a good fancy dinner spot, just wouldn't recommend if you are looking for a simple lunch.

Service was very slow, even though the restaurant was not that busy. We were a party of 3. First meal was served and we were told the remaining two would be a couple of minutes. It was at least 10 minutes before the next one was served. And the final meal was at least another 5mins. Which had to be sent back as toppings were missing from the pizza. The pizzas themselves were so thin, it was almost like a tortilla wrap base. And there was so little goats cheese on it that you could barely taste it. One member ordered meatballs and they were very dry. It just was not the experience we were expecting.

I was there with 3 friends for a long overdue catch up. The staff were super friendly & helpful. The food was excellent & the service was great. We were treated to 2 free Tiramasu desserts which were divine & even better, we received a complimentary envelope with a surprise for a visit during the month of January '24. Can't wait to go back!

Delicious food Super venue Great wines and proscecco Side of the century is their mac and cheese! Simply lovely staff. This was our first time to visit this branch of the Chubby Cherub. It was a Sunday night and surprisingly quiet. BUT that did not detract from our experience. The staff made us feel welcome and didn't rush us. We felt we could have stayed all night! Its not cheap but worth it for the fab venue (great spot for a party!), the delicious food and welcoming staff We will be back!

Pizza tastes a bit bland and not special. The mushroom risotto was too spicy. And a bit too expensive for that Was okay

4 of us booked for lunch and I ordered the vegan spaghetti. How they can justify charging anyone 17.00 for a bowl of grated carrot is beyond me! We couldn't believe it! Had to go home and make myself more food! Definitely won't be returning!

Just got back from a small dinner for my mum's birthday. We loved the Chubby Cherub in the town & happy to report this place is just as good, great food & fantastic service. Would absolutely recommend 🥰

This was our first time visiting any of the chubby cherub restaurants in Belfast and we will NOT be back. We had dinner in the Lisburn road chubby cherub this evening and it was the worst experience we’ve ever had in any restaurant in Belfast. We waited over an hour for our starter after asking the waiter where it was and he had to confirm what we ordered again (and after it came they got mine wrong), this was after a few tables came in after us had already got their starter and just started their main course. After ordering our second drink it came 30 minutes after ordering and again after we chased it with a waiter. Our main course came, my husband couldn’t fault the food but my risotto was bland and a bit cold. Half way through our meal we were asked to move to a booth to accommodate a bigger table as there was about 15 of them and they were practically on top of us. After asking for the bill we had also noticed a 10% service charge had been added without letting us know!! I had asked for this to be removed and the waiter was very understanding of it. The organisation in the place is terrible to be honest and the service wasn’t the best. Even when we came in and left the restaurant there was no greeting or thanks for coming; just “have you got a booking.” Wouldn’t recommend to anyone who wants a nice meal and wants their drinks on time.

We all agreed this new place in the Lisburn Road is not as good as the Chichester Street original, don’t get s table near the door if it’s cold outside, Italian Bruschetta starter was nice, Garlic bread starter also quite nice, they served our main courses while the starter plates were still in our table Lasagna didn’t have a great flavour. Service was just ok, not very friendly, we did have to ask twice if we could order more drinks.

First time here and most definitely won't be the last. The food was amazing

Had a lovely meal here but found it expensive for what it is. I think your paying partly for the decore which I have to say is beautiful. I also prefer to give a tip of my choice just a personal thing don't like service charge. Definitely somewhere I'd recommend trying.

This restaurant is a fantastic asset to the Lisburn road. I use it quite often. The menu is great. The staff are fab and the manageress is really on top of her game. Very welcoming and friendly and fast service. You are great Gina. Well done.

The service charge at 10% comes with the bill. The service was OK but not exceptional. I don't like being maneuvered into tipping at a preset level. It's my perogative to set the tip value, if at all.

I went out with my brother to The Chubby Cherub for lunch on 29/9/23. The staff were very friendly & helpful. They got a table prepared for us outside as it was a nice day. We had a look at the menu & then ordered our lunch. Good is excellent here. The Chubby Cherub is on The Lisburn Road in The Caddigan area of Belfast & is well worth a visit to see for yourself what the food is like. Stephen Acton.

Delightful Sunday brunch with a group of friends. The service was great, not rushed but always attentive, we had a variety of dishes on the menu and everyone had positive things to say about their choices. A relaxed vibe in beautiful decor.

I give a full five star! Maybe I am not from Belfast hence I am not aware of the price point, but I thought the cost charged for the food and service was perfect and my boyfriend and I had a lovely lunch. I was amazed by the portion and the food was great. We had meatballs as our entrée too. It may not be the traditional Italian but that’s why it was so delicious- Italian with some British twist :). For example, I thought carbonara with chicken was quite unique, but I thought why not and it turned out to be great. I also got coffee cake for later (take away) and it was also very nice. I think it’s a little funny that a lot of reviews really liked the interior- I was a little held back with the bright chandeliers but nevertheless I can tell a lot of work has gone into this place.

Had dinner here at a 9pm sitting, Goat's Cheese Crostini was lovely, and had plenty of cheese. For our mains, we ordered the Chorizo Risotto and the Shrimp, Saffron and Lemon Spaghetti, the latter of which can only be described as tasteless. The spaghetti had absolutely no flavour, and the shrimp somehow didn't even taste if seafood. We explained our disappointment to the servers, and they offered to bring us chilli flakes in an attempt to add some flavour, but the effect was marginal. When the maître d' came to take our plates, we explained again when she saw the half eaten plate, and we were offered complimentary desserts which was a kind gesture. Overall, was a nice experience, however still has some way to go to match the quality of the original city centre location.

Brilliant food and the staff are so helpful

We choose Chubby Cherub for our 35th wedding anniversary dinner and were very disappointed. Things seemed chaotic when we arrived and this continued until we left. Service was terrible. Than our Bill. +Service charge? +Non alcohol and food tax? +Alcohol tax? Which total over £20 on top of our bill. I thought service charge was optional and only for large groups but seeing there was only 2 off us and we received terrible service I thought this was a bit much. As for food tax and Alcohol tax, I have never came across this before. This tax should be added to the price on menus so that there is no hidden extra’s. The lady with black curly hair who seems to manage the restaurant needs to learn some manners especially the way she speaks to staff members.

Was at the chubby cherub on the Lisburn road on Friday evening for my birthday and had a lovely meal. The waitress who looked after us couldn’t have done more from the minute we sat down, nothing was a bother, she was very friendly, attentive...

The food was very good & the staff very attentive. There was a lively atmosphere in the restaurant with an almost full house.

Slow service very slow food was only OK not great waited half an hour for plates to be cleared after mains another wait then for dessert menu unorganised seemed like a great place to work thought staff were having a great craic between themselves we just felt as their customers in the way. Checked the bill the next day was overcharged for a glass of wine that was my bad I should of checked bill there. I don't like giving bad reviews but sorry guys had to be said, lovely location and interior. It was a Tuesday night.

Booked for my daughters birthday. Friday night 8pm place half full. The decor is very glitzy chandeliers plastic lemon trees in abundance and gold furniture. Staff very attentive and helpful. Menu typical. Small plates came a bowl of dough balls size of small walnuts 9 of them with a bed is lettuce to give impression the bowl was packed. 2 small soggy strange tasting arancini, the pesto was good tasting. Bruchetta 1 slice average, all 7 pounds each. Pizza OK, vegetable lasagna passable but daughter didn't eat it, my ladle of carbonara for 15 quid tasted OK think it had cream added to it husbands shrimp pasta 18 quid 2 shrimps. Cheapest wine 27 cocktails 12. The desert was the best course tiramisu very good and canolli VG, the place was empty by 10pm. I feel the food I'd over priced and not very authentic. Been to many italian restaurant s and been to Italy many times. This lacks the flavour and generosity that an Italian restaurant usually provides. Total bill 220 pounds. 4 cocktails, 3 starters,3 pasta, 1 pizza, 2 deserts 1 bottle of cheapest wine 27.

Lovely place. Beautifully designed. Visit twice. Food superb. Second visit called in for a coffee to sit in the sun and catch up on emails. Coffee was great. While wiating recieved an email for a photo of me for Belfast Telegraph. Pearse a member of their marketing team agreed to take a very professional mug shot. Couldn't believe how accommodating he was.

Staff are totally untrained and incompetent. A 10% service charge, irrespective of size of party, it just adds insult to injury. Where is the leadership from the management?

I'm GF. So ordered stuff from menu that was GF. Only it wasn't. And obviously I can't drink beer, and they had no cider. All in all a pretty unsatisfying evening. Though the food itself was very good.

Very good Service and Menu available

Visited last night at The Lisburn Road venue. Came down with no booking and was welcomed at the door by the manager who was excellent all night & very attentive to our table and the tables around us, the rest of the staff were also excellent! My Pizza, the Capone Calzone was very very tasty, fresh dough & very filling. My girlfriend had mushroom risotto & was a huge fan. Cocktails after that were tasty also. Will definitely be back.

Food and decor is fabulous with great atmosphere but we waited 20 minutes to be served until we just had to wave down staff even though it was visually clear we were ready with our closed menus. My partner asked for a refill of their drink and had to ask three times to two separate employees to get it. Its just a little frustrating to wave staff over for something you need every time rather than being waited on because I don't want to interrupt them if they're already busy. I want to return but I'll give it time since service is unfortunately slow at the moment

By chance I got a table for 4 on a walk on booking on the 2nd July 23. I have to say the staff are friendly and so helpful, however very busy due to in my opinion under staffing on the restaurant floor. The food is absolutely beautiful but you do have to wait as it's cooked fresh. The menu has good vegetarian and vegan options and is reasonably priced. 4x mains, 3x soft drinks, 2 x teas , 1x latte and 2x deserts was £128.The premises is clean and well cared for with comfortable seating. Highly recommended

We had a delicious meal at this restaurant, best food we have had in a long time. Beautiful decor, very friendly and attentive staff, they were very busy and possibly understaffed but they tried their very best to attend to us in every way. There was a bit of a wait for food, but personally I would say it was worth the wait. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Would not recommend!!!!! Extortionate and very poor service. We ordered the Aranchini for starter - bland. Didn't get our drinks until after we had eaten - this was after asking twice before. The pasta and risotto were okay. Wouldn't recommend the cocktails, you don't get...

Tried over a 4 hour period to speak with someone about this issue before I reviewed but both restaurants did not answer the phone once..Good luck people with sorting a booking, a query about food or a bill etc etc. We visited the Lisburn Rd restaurant and had a soft drink and a coffee. On leaving I paid by card but immediately realised the bill seemed more than it should...over 7 pounds?!..We asked for a receipt but were unable to get one..not acceptable. We asked another staff member to clarify the cost of the 2 drinks and they said a vat charge of 1.20 pounds had been added. Seriously? When I look at a menu and see our drinks come to under 6 pounds that's what I expect to pay for them. I certainly don't expect an extra charge added on. When I buy these things from anywhere else I pay for what it says on a menu or blackboard etc as vat is usually included in the price displayed. I would seriously wonder what the bill therefore would had been if we had ordered lunch and more drinks. I find this very irregular and certainly not customer friendly. We left totally puzzled. As mentioned not one person answered from both restaurants a few days later to explain this practice to me. Check your bills and query something if it seems wrong. I felt overcharged with zero proper explanation.
